I tried starting monster hunter with the Charge Blade and had a very similar experience
I always read a basic guide online about shit like that before picking a character or choosing a weapon, mainly to avoid shit like that.

Almost done with Milla's campaign, she's pretty strong but the low health is a bitch
The bike is a total coinflip on whether or not it's actually useful or not because you lose the ability to wild kick on the ground (and wild kick is basically 99% of Carol's arsenal, wild claw is too delayed and too risky to be consistently useful.)
Honestly for the sequel I hope she can just modechange to a less powerful bike at will and the gas canisters give her some kind of super bike.

The optimal three are Matt, Natalie and Anna.
Matt and Natalie because they're min-maxed to phys attack and magic attack respectively.
The problem is that Anna and Lance are both mixed attackers, but Anna has the skill Reflex, which is very powerful, making Lance the decidedly worse choice. In addition to this are small things like Refresh instead of Medipack.
You can beat the game without Anna, so it's not that bad, but it makes it quite a bit harder.
BlazBlue. When CS came out I picked up Tsubaki as a secondary. She fell to shit in CP and it made playing games her more of chore than anything else. She seems a bit better in CF so I might picky her back up next month.

Carol is a beast without the bike. You don't use Wild Kick as your main attack, instead you roll jump into enemies and combo into the claw, using the Wild Kick to avoid damage and continue to dish it out.

Several years later, pick up a different MMO. This time I apparently picked the OP class. Literally win 1v4s in PvP, able to carry PvP matches solo with ~80% win rate while guild members complain they rarely win, dominate server PvP tournaments, etc.
