Sometimes. You can learn some useful tricks for the next time you replay a game as well in general.

Sometimes. They're pretty rad.

Someone post the Gone Home speedrun webm please.

i was just watching a doom speedrun
fuck those guys really know how to play

I play monster hunter. Yes.

Kinda
I don't acitvely watch them, but I do have speed run streams running on the side while I'm browsing the internet

...

I used to. It was fun way before it got ruined by twitch memers. Watch people like siglemic was always hype and the chat helped to build it up. The aspect of hype is still there in speed run streams but its not the focus and you have it in shit like the GDQ where it's become a "hyop" meme where no actual hype is present. I also remember when Cosmo first got the WR in OoT when the skip to ganondorf was discovered and decided that night to start playing WW. He used to be really down to earth and chill and his streamers had a comfy atmosphere. RIP cosmo

I finished a Metroid game in 2 days once

If you've already played a game a lot, seeing someone who's completely mastered it play can be entertaining. It's best when there's commentary to explain what the fuck is going on, especially if it's something like pic related.

I do because it's interesting to see how much they can break the game.

i'm in for the glitch runs

I watch one or two folks who do speedruns but generally I don't watch as many as I used to. Still neat to watch if the game can be broken especially badly.

I don't normally watch streams, but I prefer speedrunner's to most normal streamers, unless it's someone who i really enjoy watching. Something a lot more entertaining watching someone who REALLY knows how to play their game.

>I only watch speed runs of retro Korean turn based western fantasy games.

>Modern Simpsons

Disgusting.

>modern (HD) simpsons
You post is wrong and stupid as fuck to begin with but the pic sealed your coffin

they're good background noise

...

...

ayy this is from the tas i made

...

They've totally broken vice city recently, you can breeze through it in 10 minutes with 20% chance.

speedrun videos got caught by the let's players wave

i love to watch a guy literally killing a game in minutes, or even a TAS

but still don't understand a Let's Play with a faggit playing on the corner

What happened now?

lol no

Only when a big stream event comes around really.
I like to speedrun DaS occasionally though, it's pretty fun.

They reverse engineered it to death and found out that you can trigger the last mission by waiting few minutes, starting replay, waiting few more, killing a clerk in tool shop, waiting for him to respawn and starting a vigilante mission. Or something

>Doom 4 speedrun
I'm guessing a lot of it would be walking from lockdown sequence to lockdown sequence.

Once upon a time

peep
youtube.com/watch?v=6JvMPMo8INI

pretty based

I don't really enjoy tool-assisted speedruns except for the "wtf is going on" factor. What they're doing is incredibly impressive, but I'd much rather watch someone who's spent years getting really really good at a game rather than someone who's spent years taking the game code apart and learning how to exploit it.

sorry 0.5 A-presses guy

>you have to glitch through the wall to not be slow as hell
It's better than nothing I guess

youtube.com/watch?v=VtI5HM7GVGY

I never get bored of watching this shit

Was it fusion?

there is some serious skips, specially in the last 10 minutes of gameplay using that OPed weapon that you can use as a rocket launcher

sorry for my lack of knowledge of the game: my toaster cannot run it

Yeah of your mom OP

>tool assisted

This is just as impressive as the first time I saw it.

Zero Mission

That is some TAS shit right there.

It is, I still don't completely understand what the fuck is going on. I've read a reddit post thoroughly explaining it and I still can't wrap my head around it. There is also a very small time window to perform some of that shit.
youtube.com/watch?v=KqKXfI_zILY

TAS mainly. Regular speedruns are really only worth it in the hands of someone who know's how to break the game fully like that AGDQ run of The Talos Principle.

I like challenge runs better than speed runs.

there is a mario bros 3 speedrun in the same vibe

they learn how the game maps itself in the memory, so they do weird actions to overwrite some random bit that triggers the ending sequence

let me show that shit for you

High score runs the superior form of gameplay videos though

>seeing literal hours of this playtime in this game zip past in the span of a few seconds

sorry it was super mario world

youtube.com/watch?v=ZHQaYc8OwlA

>all streamer ever does is speedruns of the same 5 games in rotation
>has a decent number of subs

Do all these guys have 10/10 charisma to make people sit through such boring content?

This. Bombhovering in the N64 Zeldas is pretty nifty.

I watch it sometimes to fall asleep.
Jak and Daxter and Paper Mario runs are comfy.

Basically. Or they do lots of giveaways. No one can really be THAT into Ocarina of Time or Mega Man X speedruns to be that devote to watching streams of it.

For me, most of the streamers I watch I put on in the background like a podcast.

I'll occasionally put on a stream of someone speedrunning a game I like while I'm at work, just to have the sounds from the game in the air.

Look at the world record time for any%
You'll think you're a useless piece of casual gamer shit

>the tas i made

Proof?

They are pretty impressive

youtube.com/watch?v=5NeR-bT3uv0
personal fav

Only speedrun I ever watched was 007 Goldeneye on N64.

The two guys played co-op mode on one fucking character. One guy moved, the other guy shoots. 2 separate controllers.
Crazy thing is they had to keep the field of view in the bottom left corner of the screen because that gave hte most FPS during the game. They never even looked up to see where theywere going. They memorized all the levels just by looking at the floors and timing everything. Absolutely insane.

Autistic as fuck, but insane.

isn't it kind of similar to the gohma warp in OOT? It seems like it just tries to trigger 3 missions at once and the game gets confused just grabs random missions depending on certain circumstances

i personally enjoy this one

youtube.com/watch?v=AH6i0uDvuc4

this google glitches the game into oblivion

>Great tier
Longplays
>OK tier
Walkthroughs
>Meh tier
Let's plays
Streams
>BEYOND SALVATION tier
Speedruns

>It seems like it just tries to trigger 3 missions at once and the game gets confused just grabs random missions depending on certain circumstances
That's right, and they manipulate the RNG to get the necessary mission.

Why?

more like
speedrunners>longplays>walkthroughs>streams>letsplays

Longplays>Speedruns>walkthoughs>let'splays>streams.

my dad>your dad

Are you retarded? Longplays are completely worthless. There is absolutely no point watching them, same with walkthroughs unless for some reason it's more convenient than written ones. Let's plays and streams at least have some autists commenting. Speedruns, high score runs, challenge runs, etc. are much better than that shit because they push the games, show off skills, glitches, tricks, exploits, etc.

I love speed runs

Just hitman a metal gear speedruns.

only zfg because hes based

I watch Lobos Jr. sometimes, so kinda?

Other than that, not really.

Speedruns are cool in the sense that you get a feeling of "wow, I didn't even think you could do that!". But generally, it's just exploiting glitches, and seems like a very tedious, and pointless thing to spend all that time on. At least from regular video games you get some form of experience, what do you get from this other than finding out physics and collision bugs?

To me, long plays are more like playing and recording music just so other people can experience it at a later date.

Like, imagine when the Xbox 360 is dropped from support. Hundreds of digital only games gone in a puff of smoke. No one will ever be able to play them again unless they have or find a 360 with said game installed.

So it's less for entertainment purposes and more for historical record. Because lets be real, long plays are boring as fuck to watch for the most part. But they do serve a purpose; someday someone will want to see how Dungeon Siege III or some shit played and finding a copy will be almost impossible. So they start up a long play of it instead.

The Deus ex speed runs are pretty fucking hilarious, especially how many things going wrong with the first guy.

My dad = ur mum

...

And then they ask why racism is a thing

I watch TAS'es of old Nintendo games.

They help lull me to sleep at night.

I don't get it, do they all crash at a hotel and run games for a week?

>Its a speedrun with a facecam
>Its a speedrun where the game takes up 1/4th of the screen and the rest is full of other shit
>Its a tool assisted speedrun
>Its a segmented speedrun
>Its a segmented speedrun with different segments done by different people

>Great tier
Speedruns, Walkthroughs
>OK tier
Longplays
>Mostly irredemable tier
Streams
>Absolute fucking cancer
Hey what's up yuutoob it's ya boy dankfagit420 here with another let's play of some shitty meme game
>Okay but dead
Screenshot let's plays

Watching Darbian do his Marihour challenge was pretty sweet. I only watch super Mario stuff for some reason. Dram and Dodechehedron are cool guys as well.

In his most recent best time he fucked up super hard in SM64 on two of the Bowser fights so he has almost another free minute toward a better time.

Charity events, but yeah that's the basic idea

TAS. Come at me. I like watching games get broken.

I used too until I knew the community too well.

>"Hey want to see me ride my bike with no hands?"
>"Sure"
>Puts on training wheels and pedals away

Fucking this goddamn
I liked speedruns more before I knew the drama between everybody

If the game is good and the runner is good at what he's doing

The only way you could sound stupider right now is with a food analogy

>This many A presses

Disgusting

i can't be the only one who lets a longplay of obscure NES games sit in the background at 2am

Yes. I can admire any form of hard work and dedication.

For the most part - no. I like "legit" speedruns by skilled players, but most people in the community just break the game in as many ways possible, which is merely a demonstration of game knowledge, not individual skill.

got a link?

>"Hey want me to cook you something to eat?"
>"Sure"
>Breaks out the minute rice and a can of meat

I just wish speedrunning was focused on being good at the game itself rather than being good at "breaking" the game.

This is the dumbest fucking complaint

That's what 100% categories are for you dingus

i always felt it was more like
>"Hey, wanna fuck?"
>"Sure"
>Breaks out the strap on instead of using his dick

Well I don't necessarily want to watch someone meticulously going through every single collectible, either.

The vast majority of skips and glitches require a large amount of skill to do. In fact those are the best runs to watch because of the skill involved instead of just mindlessly spamming a low-skill glitch like a Shadow neutral run.

Then watch glitchless any% runs

Every popular game has like a dozen categories, less popular ones 2-4 or so

Great analogy. I cringe whenever I see speedrunners go for easy mode.

No.
I'll check out gameplay videos if I'm considering buying a game, I might check out a twitch stream if there is one available (streams are shown on the Xbox one store).
But for the most part I find the idea of choosing to watch someone play a game incredibly boring, regardless of how impressive they play.

>he doesnt find tas's cool as shit

are there any other speedruns based on movement like hf1?

This doesnt look like original doom, just a normal shooter. Sad.

If you're going to go with a retarded food analogy, it's like going to a 5-star restaurant and finding out all the food is made by programmed robots. Sure it's not a real chef doing it but it doesn't lower the quality of the food and you should still be able to appreciate the level of skill involved in programming things perfectly.

Watched a Dark Souls one and it was fucking awesome.

Cosmo drew out my autism to speedrunning in fear of becoming him. I hope he/she/whatever get better.

>TAS
my nigger

much more fun to watch than regular runs

They're one step away from a machinima.

>that TAS where they exploit pokemon using some full inventory glitch to fully program and then launch the first stage of Mario

youtube.com/watch?v=3UnB1fomvAw

>battleship for a nose

Yeah, I mean, they're their own thing. I like to watch games played ridiculously well upon completion. TAS are more like fucking with the game and breaking it in unexpected ways.
I don't think they should count towards world records and whatnot.

>I don't think they should count towards world records and whatnot.
Uh, they don't. Except against other TASes obviously.

No. Thats for autistic people.

I enjoy quake done quick.

youtube.com/watch?v=olivoNlJphg

neurotypical pls go

When they are well made, no bullshit videos, yes. When the face of the guy doing it covers half of the screen and there's a chat window open and the runner in commenting and a porn banner flashes at the background, hell no. Fuck that shit. They ruined even fucking speedrunning.

I feel like most people on Cred Forums don't like speedruns because they feel insecure, like playing the game fast means the runner is better than them. That was probably a sentiment felt back when everybody was nuthugging Cosmo and Siglemic, but most runners today will fully admit that they're bad at vidya, even sometimes the one they run.

Pong in mario
youtube.com/watch?v=JxgEXDnXD6M

How would you find out about upcoming port that's coming out tho
Think b4 u post

One one hand they are great if you use them to find out how to quickly complete a shitty level. On the other hand it's infuriating if the speedrunner only uses weapons that you get after completing the game.

kek

>that shine sparking
Holy shit I never knew I wanted this

wow this game is nothing like the source version on steam

I ment 2 type porn haha

Damn, my ex had same nose. Is it a name for it? For porn.

only gdq and that one european marathon, I can't bring myself to watch a recorded run alone
