I really don't get this. I worked 7-4 monday-friday over the summer and felt like I had more than enough time to do shit. I went to bed at 8-9pm half the time too. How much time do you realistically need?

When I was a network engineer, things were simpler, but 1 hour or more just to travel between home and work on the fucking underground was disgusting and miserable.

Anyone can study in school and come out with no skills. You need to be clever enough and knowledgable enough to know what skills to learn and then have the motivation and commitment to learn them.

THEN you need to establish a network of people who like you so they can hire you over similarly qualified candidates through nepotism.

All of this takes years, and it's what college is for. Sadly most people do not know that this is how it works, and think the degree is enough. It's really just a buffer. I know people who dropped out of highschool who now make 70k+/yr in IT because they had skills

I did really well at school, and not too bad at university, and came out of the education with no useful skills or knowledge at all. Had to basically write off the first 25 years of my life as a complete waste of time and start again.
