Usually I don't get in the thread so soon, so I'll post my profile even though I have nothing new, just to start things off.

How far off the screen can a Goomba go before despawning?

I'm still salty over the 3ds announcement.

A new version of my Penalty Shootout level. It fixes a problem that made the original cheesable and adds a second, more difficult shootout.

I'll play some of your levels in a minute.

I'd say about 2-4 blocks off screen?

Also sorry user, can't play at the moment, but I'll leave this thread open and check out your stuff later on tonight/tomorrow depending on how stuff goes.

Ikr? No Game Boy styles is BULLSHIT. So is limited online and no amiibo usage, which I assume means no costumes at all.

It's a cash grab plain and simple but it will sell well so I honestly don't blame them. Money is money at the end of the day...

Different user here. All I want from the 3DS is version is being able to copy projects from and to the Wii U. But they probably won't even add that.

Me too user. If it was, I would buy it day 1 just to play SMM anywhere and everywhere.

I did really want to make SML and SML2 levels as well though...

Just played a couple of your levels. Tower Tussle was awesome! Really clever design.

>SML and SML2 levels
I'd love to as well. But it's obvious that they don't want to put in that much effort.

Don't worry, there's no rush.

And thanks for the answer. I'm experimenting with different tricks for the next level I'm making, and while I know the escort-a-Goomba levels have been made before, I'm interested in trying a simplified one where you have to keep up with it so it doesn't despawn as a segment.

Thank you! I'm pretty flattered, since it honestly didn't strike me as all that clever. I really just copied the basic formatting of the enemy towers Kirby games traditionally use, with the "stairs" parts coming directly from Crystal Shards. But I do really like the idea of hiding a key amidst a group of enemies.

I almost put a single Magikoopa at the very end, based on the N-Zs that drop on the last screen of Crystal Shards' tower, to fuck with the player via the disappearing goal. I figured people get pissed when they see that so I didn't.

>But I do really like the idea of hiding a key amidst a group of enemies

Finding the one carrying the key was more fun than I would have expected. I guess it was because the rooms weren't too large. I also liked how each room stuck to its own theme, and small details, like the one pink coin that you could get by hitting one of the "stair blocks" in order to make a vine appear. The level flowed very well, imo.

can I shill my box maker levels, OP?

>box maker

You mean like Photoshop?

>because the rooms weren't too large

You know, I didn't think of it that way before, but that absolutely makes sense. I actually kind of lucked into it - since just putting a single big enemy in each room like most Kirby games do doesn't really work as a challenge here, the only really viable option was to use a number of enemies in each room. I actually was a bit concerned that some rooms were too packed - particularly the Goomba room - but that doesn't sound like it was a problem.

Hiding the pink coins is one of the more fun parts. Since they aren't required to finish the level, it's possible to hide some of them away in unusual or secret places, encouraging exploration and experimentation. In the case of the collectibles such as the pink coins, with there being no copy abilities and thus no way to go down that avenue with secrets, relying on the environment becomes more necessary. There's one pink coin in particular in the third Halberd level that I'm really proud of because I hid it in a way that is not immediately apparent, but if you play the other levels in the series and learn what's common among them, the secret is hidden in a way that blatantly plays on your expectations.

Too bad that the thread doesn't seem to take off. I wanted to ask people about a limited palette challenge or a possible collaboration project.

Just got done with this one, give it a try and let me know wat you think.

please try it out. sorry im not at my wii u atm so i cant play any of your levels

How does a collaboration work?

There used to be collaborations on Cred Forums back in the day. Every one gets a part of the map. Then uploads that part. One nice user compiles all of it into one level and uploads it.

I'd be interested in doing either of those.

Interesting. I think I remember seeing them in the past but I never knew how they worked.

>Another Mario Maker thread
I still have 66 bookmarked stages.
Also, I'm pretty sure most of you guys have played my stages

Then get playing bub. Start with mine plx

Just beat it. It's a great level with a lot of very creative ideas but holy shit those fucking ghosts sitting in their clouds nearly made break my controller (it's easier if you have the leaf). And the first time I got past them, I had missed one of the pink coins. By the way, I love how you hid that coin (the one right at the beginning). It took me a while to think of that.

I'm glad you liked it. Fun fact: there is an alternate route located in one of the early p pipes

Figured it was appropriate for this time of year.

Forgot to attach picture.

Boys, we need to make a level together again. And I am dead fucking serious. Who's with me? Who wants to make another collaboration?

I do.

supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/1022-0000-0287-FFC6

I know I post this one a thousand times, and many of you have already played it, but I am seriously at a loss for ideas. It's Four Paths again, a Super Mario World Airship level with 4 different paths leading to the exit.

How would that work anyway? Do we vote on a game style and theme? How about elements that are allowed? If everthing goes, then the level might end up a total mess.

To be perfectly honest I'm not entirely sure. I've played collaborations before and it seems as though anons are all assigned sections of some sort. Most of the time they end up being pretty hard.

We need to come up with some sort of system.

How were these collaborations done in the past? I remember hearing of them, but I didn't start actually playing in these threads until March.

I think it is like the other user says. The map was segmented and assigned to different anons. Depending on the kind of level, someone probably decided from the get-go where the exits of each part of the map were to be, so that the pieces could be joined together without any major problems.

any links to previous colabs?

supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/239D-0000-00D9-8C75

These are the only two I know of. This guy hasn't popped up since his last stage though.

I think I've downloaded at least one of them. If nobody has a link, I could upload it for a minute for others to download. Is it even possible to upload the work of others without making changes to it?

Ignore my post.

Wouldn't a limited palette challenge be easier to pull off?

Much easier. We could finally do LPC 3. One Yeariversary style.

>tfw all good levels are from USA and Europe

>tfw no good levels from Japan or Latin America

If anything, we could use this little program to decide the items in the next LPC.

youtube.com/watch?v=6W01lCbTnUY

I'd like to see what people would come up with in a completely randomized lpc. But I guess many people would be averse to certain elements if they were picked (water levels etc). Has anyone tried out the program already?

Yeah, I don't see us doing water levels haha. I haven't, despite shooting the idea here a few times. I'll download it now and let you guys know how I feel about it.

Well it's pretty straightforward. You can choose what items you want and don't want in the randomizer. Obviously we don't have to make it a "troll" level unless you guys want to do a troll lpc for whatever reason, but I do wish you could just keep hitting the randomizer/dice button to keep randomizing instead of having to hit reset then random. Small gripe, but whatever. Also wish I could resize it since I'm on my shit laptop, but it's still simple enough to get the job done.

If we do this, then how many elements should we include in total? How did past competitions handle this? Also what else other than water levels should we exclude?

>tfw a week ago i decided to sell my wii u because i never played it
>today i get the urge to play mario maker
What the fuck, me?

Here's the first LPC. Looks like people did make water levels, my bad lol. It's just not a preference of mine I guess. I'll see if I can find the other real quick.

Aw shit, nevermind. I never downloaded the other one I guess. Sorry about that - if anyone else has it can they upload it?

Post webms and videos on you playing. those are always fun to watch.

You can't reupload something that you downloaded from someone else, even if you make changes to it. Whatever you're looking for is only uploaded on the original creator's profile.

I think user meant the other chart.

Yeah, I meant the other chart user. The 2nd LPC.
