90s game has references

>90s game has references
>haha cool xD

>post 2010 game has references
>MEME MEME REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

why the double standard Cred Forums? just realized old humour wasn't any better than facebook memes of today?

Fuck you, kid.

GIRUGAMESH

Actually F2 was a bit annoying with some of the references. Thankfully, you could ignore a lot of them.

i'm not against references in games

but there's a big difference between putting a reference in because someone developing the game thinks its funny and a suit in a boardroom thinking that putting in more references to get the "SUPER COOL KIDS" to buy their game

>this franchise was always shit and I have no response so I'll just call you a kid

Except no one back when F2 was released enjoyed the references. Hardly anyone still enjoys them.

In the 90s, not everyone knew exactly what the references were referring to, and there wasn't really an easy way to find out unless your nerd friends told you.

Nowadays, you can easily google search anything from a tiny pocket computer, so references end up being pointless outside of self-righteous wank.

References were out of the way side distractions back then.

References now tend to be the meat of the game, in your face and unavoidable.

Tell us the difference then. To me it seems that Cred Forums is just adopting a new double standard.

While people acknowledge Fallout 2 is an amazing game, one of the biggest complaints even its hardcore fans give it are that it has too many reference jokes.

Just because you're an underage newfag doesn't mean you can ignore the past 18 years of discussion the game has had.

this is how i see it

they would be sublte before and you might not even find them if you didnt look for them

I love Fallout 2 but the constant references are atrocious.

>humour

Why are yuroPEONS always such shitposters?

references to movies, tv, and books are one thing but to reference internet memes is just god awful.

>old
>good historical references
>bill and ted
>star trek
>hitchhiker's
>etc

>new
>stupid nonsense shit ala internet memes

That's the difference.

Success breeds jealousy. Notice how all the classic RPG franchises (Ultima, Wizardry, Might and Magic, Fallout, etc) are made by americans and slavs can only make shoddy imitations of them.

this is how I see it

>trying to apply logical fallacies to Cred Forums

this place is a logical fallacy you pseudo intellectual

>Joke about a well known franchise people already remember vs a joke about a passing fad that will be dead in a month
Gee, I wonder OP. The same reason that Dante's Inferno isn't called out for being full of references to the Bible, e.g., a very well known book that was already remembered for a very long time, vs being a reference to some stupid joke going around Italy that week.

this

what happened to her?

nothing, it's the intro to a porn movie

>Neat refrences to other popular media we all grew up with and love
Vs
>LE SELFIE DUCKFACE XD MEMES!!! EUB EUB CUH-RAZY DUBSTEP LOLOLOL FUNNY MEMES!!
Modern internet refrences are cancer. Member that.

There is no double standard, Fallout 2 has some references from various things but it is difficult to find them all unless you dump all your points on Luck, Perception and Outdoorsman, which would cripple your character, the game also has many other things going for it and not just a bunch of random references to other games, TV shows and social media memes.

Borderlands 2 on the other hand, only has references, the gameplay is bland and a grind, the writing is horrendous and should make anyone that enjoys a proper game want to kill themselves.

Don't expect the retards here to understand the difference though.
