They probably don't sell well compared to PC releases to bother. I know there's some like Steins;Gate and Clannad but the smaller guys tend to stay away from it.
Windows tablets are great. I'd definitely recommend grabbing a cheap chinese one to anyone that like vns.

I disagree, it's pretty well received. The only real complaint is that the art is dated if you play it nowadays.

The Kohaku and Hisui routes are way better. All the other routes paint a more vivid picture of the story.

Remember11. Umineko is a close second, but something about remember 11 keeps sucking me back into it. Probably because it's such a well structured story.

Kamidori was my favorite all-around, but Turkeyhandle was my favorite for the plot.

To be honest, it does give you hints where each character might be but I do agree that it was pretty much bullshit for most of the time.

Such a shame the other games never got translated, the story was so terrible but the actual game play was amazing

Simple, R11 was better because Umineko shit all over itself with the answer. Remember11 ran with it's mystery and didnt try to be realistic. Umineko tried to be plausible and just came off as retarded, creating a setting where everyone must be lobotomized to be so ignorant. R11 didnt have retards, just the cast getting pulled around by other forces. It also had better atmosphere where you freeze to death on a mountain, while also worrying about getting murdered in SPHIA. Ending is a letdown, but it's open and mysteries lose charm when answered e.g Jack the ripper being a mentally ill jew who escaped because a Jew didnt want to testify against another Jew.

Then you havent seen the true end. Beat all routes then play Kirari again.

I didn't really like the first two routes, all it did was pander to Shirou, Saber and Rin. Once HF got started and Shirou actually had to man up and become a hero, not a seigi no mikata, I liked it a lot more.

Other than that Saya no Uta, cause its short and good. Other VNs I have read are just hours long and I don't have time to really finish them so I end up forgetting shit.

If you're dying for an EVN then it's worth picking up -- there are certain things that translated VNs will never do proper in English -- but I think it's kinda bad because it will often read like a trashy romance novel you can find at Target or Wal-Mart. It also uses dumb anime art style, which is wholly unnecessary considering the subject matter and the fact that it's an EVN. Like the guy above said, it's aping Jap tropes, and doing it poorly.

Yes, the music is also done very well. I love the drastic changes in the music in the scenes. I loved the tracks with the slow guitar riffs, they sound so creepy yet comforting. It sets the mood perfectly.

I love how easy they made it to sympathize with both parties, on one found Fuminori finally finds purpose after his fuck up and Saya actually loves him due to her dorkboner for romance novels.
And then all of his friends are "What the fuck is wrong with you man" and their intense feelings of revenge and fear.

Anyways, Saya no Uta really fucked me up the first time I played through it, I couldn't operate normally for a while. Granted I was also a little fucked up at the time.
But what an awesome story. Sometimes I wish for more but it could never be done well.

I found the H-scenes disturbing for that same reason, since it's pretty obvious from early on that Saya is not what she appears to be, to the MC at least.

OELVN is original English language visual novels -- I assume EVN is simply a shortening of that. Basically EVN means visual novels written originally in the English language, not translated from ching chong.

Hanako games are considered visual novels, sorta. I don't know if you played Magical Diary but that was Deviantart tier awful. Long Live the Queen is less VN and more game. I haven't played their other stuff, but it seems their strength is in making games that have VN aspects to it and not the other way around. I wouldn't consider Huniepop a VN, that's more like a puzzle game than a novel. Katawa Shoujo is definitely an EVN, perhaps (some would say sadly) the best written EVN there is.

I've kind of given up on EVNs, maybe the scene has gotten better. But EVNs feel like lazy versions of Jap VNs, instead of being their own separate entity, and so the results are cringy.

I think that's part of what makes the story so gripping. It doesn't take long to realize, "something is seriously not right here", and I think Fuminori realizes it too. But he can't stop. He feel like he can finally escape his hell just for a bit.

And yep. I think she attacks him unknowingly trying to get help where he promptly nopes the fuck out and brutally beats her into a pulp with a pipe. Then depending on the ending, he goes completely fucking insane and keeps the revolver the doctor gave him in his apartment with one bullet if he can't take it anymore.

There's actual living, breathing human beings who finished high school, that think the ending of Umineko is shit.

I read this mostly for the story and didn't regret it. The true ending route had an amazing amount of feels for a fucked up porn game.

I enjoyed piecing the story and reading between the lines because everyone is an unreliable narrator in one way or another. I found the DOS command prompts nostalgic and kinda a unique way to engage the player. Your first route probably takes around five hours. Full price? Dunno.

The author never gave you the explanation on a silver plate, and forces the reader to figure it out. It's perfectly solvable, but a big theme of Umineko is "truth" and there's a lot of truths out there. And in the end, your truth is the only one that matters, so it can give room to some pretty interesting theories behind the murders.

It's a very, very, very well executed deconstruction of the tried and kind of stale murder mystery genre.

For me it's not even the sound of the chomp that makes the scene, its the use of Code 991. GODDAMN I love the sound design, ost for this game.

I think the biggest problem is that they aren't good at making both drama and slice of life and mixing it well. It felt forced and the routes suffered for it. The sequels get even more stupid in that aspect as they ramp up both the humor and the seriousness as the same time.

With Amane, her flashbacks felt like they were dragging on in a lot of places. But otherwise it was okay. The final boss being essentially my dad with a shotgun was anti climactic though.
