>Software developers will have an easier time since they only have to work with one Windows OS

Basically, a lot of problems from Windows (not all, but a lot) comes from the fracturing of the community. Windows 10 is supposed to be the last version of Windows MS makes, just like OSX. With Windows 10 forcing updates (except for an extremely small minority that knows how to disable them), everyone who uses Windows 10 on the internet will basically have the same Windows as everyone else.

There's also Windows server versions, and XP, 2000, 98, and 95 and maybe even older are still maintained but for a price for considerations. It's going to cost a lot less in the long run for MS to stick with just Windows 10, and will provide a better user experience.
