The games are pretty shit but Guild Wars 2 and Wildstar had some neat races.

The Suikoden series would be a million times better without the awful non-humans they kept on adding. Walking, talking, giant cats, beavers, etc. that all seem there for comic relief and slapstick humor. It's always jarring to see that stuff next to the semi serious storylines of the series.

Elona has a bunch, but they're mainly debug races. I can't think of many other games that lets you play as a fucking garden-variety snail.

But the thing is, most fantasy races do nothing strange compared to humans. If they had unique abilities that humans don't, kinda like how in Endless Legend, Drakken have a different racial tree bonuses than humans.

Most of the time it's like;

>Croc race has more power and less speed
>mouse race has more speed and less power.

They don't really put in effort to make them play different.

Yeah, that's basically a given limitation. I've accepted that no games will almost ever let you play a bird race because flying is a huge advantage, or an insectoid race because multi-wielding more than two weapons would be crazy.

Mechanics are of minimal importance to me, I like when there's well written history and unique culture behind them.

Everquest 2 was fucking awesome for this, Iksar are one of my favorite races for all the crazy bullshit they pulled.

PosChengBand has an android race that's kinda similar.

I'm sure a few of the Wizardry or Might & Magic games have something like that since some of them were science fantasy.

Most games that do have multiple playable races just stick you with humans and humans wearing halloween costumes while leaving all the interesting ones as either npcs or enemies.
You know what game had cool ass fantasy races? Star Control 2, almost none of them even resembled humans other than bipedalism. Can you play as any of the cool ones? Not all of them but fuck yeah you actually got to do something fun like that. You could play as hypnotoads, or even sentient fucking crystals (and I mean actual crystals, not that faggy steven universe tranny crap). That was in 1992 for christ's sake, nowadays you're even lucky to get a beastman race option in your games because for some fucking reason everybody's too pussy to actually do some roleplaying other than their own self-insert mary sue avatar crap.
