It's theorized Guan Yu secretly loathed Cao Cao, despite Cao's constant good treatment of him. After Lu Bu's execution he wanted a woman from a local prefecture as his prize for helping Cao Cao. Said woman chose to be Cao Cao's concubine eventually and their relationship soured. Guan Yu didn't react well to not getting what he wanted and in turn; acted like a bitch for not getting higher command status after Guan Du and fled like a bitch to Liu Bei.

Even the only supposedly sane member of the family still has bouts of shithouse craziness and goes running into battle half-cocked.
Whose major generals are poetwarrior fruits, LIVE FOR GLORY idiots who were thumped into submission, and an ex-pirate so manly, he gussies himself up in little girly bells and prances around the battlefield with a jingle-hey-ho.
If they aren't doing it because they're battle nuts, the only other option is they're huge fucking attention whores. Possibly a bit of both.
