It's a hard game. Hard game.

Shit controls

git gud

Because you're not Alexander.

you weren't brutal and ruthless

Jimmy two times over here

I don't know about you user but i love it!

10 year anniversary is in 13 days

Awesome!

Started playing this recently, the gay twins look like they're going to be a bitch to fight.

The NA release I mean

WATERRRRRRRR

Clover likes making games that take effort to beat, probably.

They're pretty hard until you realize to push all you can onto one. Thing is, in this game, if you throw out combos as fast as you can without fucking up, you can decimate any enemy.

What are some other games where every cutscene consists of all the characters being huge douches to each other? It's great.

>them tits
I need more tits like this.

Olivia is amazingly hot, but there's not a lot of fan art of God Hand in general. Shame, because a lot of the designs in this game are pretty neat.

>get gud
>get punished
The perfect system, lets scrubs coast through and lets non-shitters enjoy a challenge.

Because your style was not impetuous.

>3 arms

The God Hand's a hell of a drug.

I want to love this pic, but their faces are so dopey.

God hand is the best game clover created. Or maybe viewtiful joe

roulette wheel
(roulette wheel)

myam myam myam myam myam myam can summon up da powah of the GOD HAND

I love VJ1 and 2 but God Hand has their number. All three are better than Okami.

You're not a human are you?

ooo oo oo

I want some more Shannon though.

Redbull me on God Hand, why does it have shit reviews but is loved by \^\?

Yeah I see no reason why dodges weren't placed on the d-pad instead of the right analog stick.

You're not gonna force it, let it go.

>god hand
>better than okami

Good golly she is pure fap fuel

That's what your mum said when she tickled my anus.

Unfortunately, all of the Shannon I can find is either impossible to post on here without my ass getting banned for three days on all boards or garbage.

Like I said, the fanart is scarce as fuck. Contact your local drawfag in order to repair this.

The main criticism was that it's just too difficult for any normie to pick up. If you're willing to get used to the controls, mechanics and engine, then you're getting a real challenge and a deeper love for the game; and that's not gonna happen in the two hours it takes for a reviewer to look at a game.

youtube.com/watch?v=epRLU2lGFVE

Off to Hell goes this semen demon... we agree on this one.

I am my own drawfag, it's a great feeling.

What's going on in this thr

Redbull yourself silly goose just play it

FUCK

I don't know, something about their characters are just sorta lame.

Cut out that "redbull" and "\^\" thing. If you're going to ask a newfaggish question you can't force in your shitty writing style quirks in too.

October 2006. The Wii and PS3 were just a month away, with the 360 a year old. Professional reviewers (moneygrubbing scumbags whose reviews are known by Their Brand not by the name of the reviewer) had little patience for what looked like just another beat-em-up and glanced over it. They were gearing up the media cycle for those consoles. They wanted dazzling graphics and physics and something immediately graspable as innovative. The most infamous review by IGN (by Some Fag, IGN has no good writers so like all of their reviews it's only known as "the IGN review") didn't get past the second level, made some hasty and outright incorrect judgements, contradicted itself, then dubbed the game a 3.0. Most of the other negative reviews followed suit.

Back in 2006-09 when God Hand was considered Cred Forums core and a mandatory game to play, Cred Forums was tastefully contrarian to ignore the reviews and give Mikami a fair shot and found that the gameplay was fucking glorious. The punching, the dodging, the enemies and every little kink of the experience is god damn solid. Near perfect gameplay that normies ignore because they refused to try something new coupled with great music and good writing. Play it, fuck you, I don't care, but know that it's fucking Godlike. If you like video games, go try it.

You alright?

Sequel never, clearly. So at least HD remake when?

>Most of the other negative reviews followed suit.
metacritic.com/game/playstation-2/god-hand/critic-reviews
almost all reviews are above average, only the IGN one is negative

IGN reviewer only played it for two hours and the game was too hard for a reviewer who plays games on easy modes. Souls games would've gotten the exact same treatment if it wouldnt have had such a huge autistic fanbase ready to call anyone a bitch complaining that the game is too hard.

And like Souls games, its the initial first hours that are the toughest when you're figuring out the game. The further you get in the game, easier it gets. Its a beat'em'up with a weird mix of 3d tank controls and best feature is the fact you can customise your basic combos and mix them up with moves that you unlock and find through secrets.

It's called PCSX2

But every place people give a shit about gave decent-to-good scores for God Hand. IGN was by far the lowest.

It's a misunderstood and often written off action game that's really good. It for sure has flaws and the graphics for the time are terrible but it's still a great game that's mechanically sound. The real reason it was written off were the minimal graphics and the STEEP difficulty curb that will fuck over casual players hard, even on easy mode.

It's funny how few people understand how to play Viewtiful Joe. You're just supposed to get as many enemy combos as you can while slow motion lasts. It was fairly infuriating watching Arin on GG talk about how good the game is when he clearly barely understood the basics of it.

I really wish more games did what God Hand did.

>Game doesn't take its own story seriously.
>Game never expects you to take damage but give you health powerups from crates so you can.
>Game encourages you to challenge yourself by giving you more gold for keeping the difficulty gauge up, and still puts up a good fight regardless, especially on bosses.
>Only cranks up the difficulty if you demonstrate that you know what you're doing: dodging shit and properly guarding breaking and punishing, so you don't get button-mashing and run-attacking players getting the difficulty cranked up on them while at the same time discouraging doing that.
>Gold economy is based on one thing only: buffing Gene. You don't have to save money for anything else. You want a move, you get it. Or you can spend it at the casino to try and win more.
>Damage output is normalized by the stingers you can do on tanky characters like bosses, so you get fucked/have the game trivialized by it, but it matters.

I consider the game to be top 3 material so when most publications gave it 8/10s, that's a bad assessment. Most reviewers played more than two levels (presumably), but why it got 8s is for the reasons I listed, about the 360 and Wii coming out, and by the other reviews that gave it 7/10 and less being narrow minded about the game.

I went for the big pinball combos, that's the best part of the game. It's everything else of the gameplay is "just okay"-- namely the bosses and the platforming. The art design is amazing though.

I hit character limit but I just wanted to say that my point is, every major, game-wide mechanic clearly had a lot of thought put into and was designed to be fair, but hard. You rarely if ever get bullshit by the game, it expects a lot from you, but it also cushions your fall if it realizes you suck. But not too much. One of the best examples of actually-displayed dynamic difficulty I've ever seen, it lets you gitgud and then rewards you for doing so without shitting down your throat with bad RNG or gotcha traps. 99% of the time, you die and it's your fault. Also, it's just plain fun. Laying into enemies with button mashes feels so visceral, it makes me happy.

Theres parts where the shitty radar fails to tell you theres an enemy behind you doing some dash attack. So sometimes its a bit of bullshit brought in by the wonky tank controls.

But then you can minimise that bullshit by making sure theres nobody behind you at all times. Keep a wall behind you, etc.

And higher difficulties make the enemies faster, smarter and more versatile instead of just giving them slightly more hp.

Just curious, are enemies off camera less aggressive? it seems that way to me, but i thought that this technique started with bayo.

I do like that at least. If the game didn't have a minimap I'd probably complain about it, but I'm probably biased since I used to play THOSE games. If nothing else, sprinting away at an angle actually does let you kite enemies 90% of the time, unlike other beat-em-ups. Or standing your ground if you have a good view angle with stationary dodge. Even when it's clunky, the clunkiness is manageable, which is better than I can say for other games with that issue.

I think they actually don't get beefier at all. That's the good part though. You kill them at the same speed (or faster if you have better moves), they just get harder to outlast because they actually gain moves, damage, overall aggressiveness. Damage sponge enemies are the worst form of number-change difficulty.

>The first time an enemy jumps over your leg sweep and bashes your face in.

Yes and no. Enemies act much like Resident Evil 4 villagers: When they see you, they quickly run at you but once they get close, it might take them a while until they finally hit you.

But no, its not a good idea to get surrounded in God Hand. It seems enemies behind you dont use their basic attacks as much as those youre fighting from the front, but they will spam specials and projectile attacks even from behind you.

Thats what makes one boss tough, because you have to fight 3 bosses at once and one of them has dash, while one of them has a projectile attack. Have to make sure you never get sandwiched between them.

LV.Die causes a 20% health boost.

Oh, didn't know. But then again, that's way more modest than most games that adjust enemy HP with difficulty. Definitely significant, but it's not like they double or triple it or some shit. Even 50% would be over the line in this game, especially on a KMS run.

God Hand has the best adaptive difficulty in any game every created. See pic for the differences in the static difficulty modes you pick on New Games.

>the first time an enemy does the piggyback kick
>the first time an enemy combos you
So good.

Fuck that ape boss. I die like about 20 times and created multiple save states just to beat him.

You're talking about the Stooges, right? If I fight all three at once, I tend to make it a point to use roulettes or God Hand on Felix as soon as possible just because of his boomerang. I never got the hang of how to spot-dodge it even if it's possible just because it's pretty slow compared to other projectiles. I also hate backstepping/dodging enemies. I have way less trouble with Bruce's shockwaves just because it's obvious that you have to sidestep them and they don't come from behind if he's in vision. He also has the loudest, most obvious audio telegraphs (bull noises and retard yelling) so he's easier to avoid if you know where he is from the radar. Hear bull noise, back or side dodge about a second later.

Get out of here Sips

Last time I played the game on hard I fucked up so bad the fat fuck got to eat three sets of bananas but I still beat him without deaths, with just a sliver of health left.

The boomerang cunt is Bruce and the barrel-shaped guy is Felix.

>beat hard mode
>256 death

I usually get pissed off at games I suck at and I suck at God Hand but the game's just so goofy and a blast to play that it's all smiles

Except for Mr. Sensei. Fuck Mr. Sensei

Leave it to a wikia wiki to fuck that shit up. I always get those two mixed up because they're never called by name in-game. At least Conchita makes it easy, even moreso if you know Spanish slang.

godhandcapcom.wikia.com/wiki/Felix

>the first time you feel confident enough to go toe-to-toe with a demon without popping godhand or using roulette moves

>and then the super demons start popping up

Weirdly I never had much trouble with trident demons.

Does God Hand emulate well?

This will remain a criminally underrated game forever. In my opinion the best action game on PS2.

The tank controls challenge you in interesting ways. And it has arcade-like resource management through each level.

Yeah. Physical copies of it are dirt cheap, too.

I heard it's ok to emulate, there's an infographic floating around somewhere for emulator settings.

>elf
What the fuck is this.

Ok, thanks.

Can we all agree that dodge-cancel is the most important thing for a new player to know about?

Yep. Also on that note, Yes Man Kablaam and the stupid meter gain you get from it on connect. Cancel the end taunt and you're golden.

Not using YMK at all is more fun doe. Granny Smacker is where it's at.

I feel like it's one of those things most people discover on their own as they frantically hammer that right stick.

>cancelling the taunt
You're not Alexander.

I hate it how whenever a game comes out without what is pretty much the standard control scheme it gets called shit.

Just because it takes a couple of minutes to get a handle on doesn't mean it's shit, it's the same for The Wonderful 101, people like you who refuse to learn how to play games are why we have to casualise every game so you know how to play them before playing them.

I'd say counter hits and some bnb crowd control techniques (juggle+launch) is more important

Metal Gear Rising did that. The only problem I have with that game is the half-assed stealth sections.

>get to the last fight
>never play the game again

>Game doesn't take its own story seriously.
MGRR's cutscene length and boring scripted sequences (the start, the prologue pseudo-fight with Sam, the sequence before Monsoon) is really not how God Hand does it and IS taking its own story seriously. Not all the time, but it takes itself seriously at parts
>Game never expects you to take damage but give you health powerups from crates so you can.
In MGRR every non boss enemy has a full heal inside. You can also equip multiple health items that automatically heal you. That's very very far away from God Hand's design.
>Game encourages you to challenge yourself by giving you more gold for keeping the difficulty gauge up, and still puts up a good fight regardless, especially on bosses.
God Hand puts a lot more emphasis on its Lvl die than MGRR's ranking and it shows.
>Only cranks up the difficulty if you demonstrate that you know what you're doing: dodging shit and properly guarding breaking and punishing, so you don't get button-mashing and run-attacking players getting the difficulty cranked up on them while at the same time discouraging doing that.
MGRR doesn't do this
>Gold economy is based on one thing only: buffing Gene. You don't have to save money for anything else. You want a move, you get it. Or you can spend it at the casino to try and win more.
MGRR has you buying individual weapons and upgrading them seperately from your other weapons, meaning money spent is not linear and direct as it is in God Hand. MGRR you also can buy costumes.
>Damage output is normalized by the stingers you can do on tanky characters like bosses, so you get fucked/have the game trivialized by it, but it matters.
MGRR treats this more as a flashy "I win" button than God Hands "hey want to do this attack now?" buttons.

This isn't even mentioning the janky platforming the game has. MGRR is good but God Hand is great.

>couldn't even beat the first part of the first stage on hard

Shit was fucking insane. Granted I barely gave it an effort, Shit's still insanely punishing.

I know how to dodge, but what about the cancel?
BTW, how do you stomp an enemy?

Because you're not Alexander nor are you brutal and ruthless.

More like shit players complaining about controls

I love it.

Because you're enjoyment of God Hand directly correlates with how good you are at it. It's that simple. If you're shit and you don't want to get better at it you won't like it.

Who remembers that guy streaming his blind first playthrough on new year's eve a few years back?

The whole drawing shit and battery usage shit made w101 way too hard than its already is.

at level one, I'm pretty sure they only attack you one at a time. for the most part, at least.

on the higher levels, not so much.

nope, I'm pretty sure Hard mode does that, not lvl. Die.

Procure profficiency.

fucking Mike Kob.

>you will never be good

I'll play an action game over a platformer zelda-like any day.

I used to watch some Dark Souls streamers like Lobosjr, and I used to think "wow, this guy is amazing at video games".
took me some time to realize that those games are more about patience than skill.
but I'll NEVER understand how you get as good as Mike Kob.

youtube.com/watch?v=DGrMvy-2gQQ

Even the thugs are sexier than she is.

I'll be honest, i still get triggered when people say W101's drawing mechanic is "hard" or "innaccurate".

Reviewers want nothing but cut-scenes with cookie-cutter gameplay, hand-holding and mediocre writting. Dark Souls is the only actually "hard" Game that gets praised these days, and even then, places like Kotaku will write articles about how unfair it is.

It is also why Codename STEAM got all that hate. It wasnt perfect by any means, but the big reason it got hate at all is because you are actually punished for being retarded.

I wish drawthreads on non-blue boards knew about God Hand.

high rez scan of the guidebook

I've been looking for this, thank you!

...

I could upload the entire guidebook if you want, this might take a while though

...

If you'd like. I'd appreciate it.

pic related to prove that it's legit, I'm uploading it to mediafire, it should take 30 min due to my shitty internet

if the thread gets pruned before that, I'll release the link on twitter or you could pm me, look for miek kob

honestly god hand needed a bit more work to be truly great, you could clear the entire story on normal mode with

>engage enemy
>mash square for an indefinite combo
>mash backdodge when enemy counters
>rinse and repeat

If there were a little more incentive to use special moves, maybe it wouldn't be so niche

I finished the game on normal and loved the shit out of it but i didn't really have any idea how to set up proper combos etc.

nah, I'm pretty sure the weird controls, tone, humor and shit graphics, combined with the brutal difficulty will ensure it stays niche.

Olivia is such an underrated QT

when will you upload a video with the arena challenges?

honestly, they're all too samey for me to do something original and different for each and every fight, I've only recorded a handful of them because I had something cool to show off for said challenges, but having to find a different gimmick and use a unique moveset for all 51 of them is plain impossible

Speaking of Shinji Mikami being an asshole does anybody have any tips for the 3rd phase of Burns on Vanquish? God Hard obviously, this is the first time I think I've ever almost failed to complete a game's difficulty. First thing I do is throw an EMP then 3 grenades to kill all the soldiers in the room, but then Burns just always finds a way to instakill me. Pretty sure I have 150+ deaths at this part now.

well could you atleast do something on the unique ones, like the bartender and double godhand Gene?

>double godhand Gene
youtu.be/BcUOITjtKJ8
just imagine this fight but the boss having a way bigger health bar

you know, I wish I could but I've already milked the game to hell and back and that would be too try hard at this point, what would be nice is if someone else would try his hands at it and do something different than what you see in my usual videos (3 min remaing for the guidebook btw)

Is there really no other difference between Azel and Gene?
I mean I guess it makes sense with them being polar opposites and all, but that's still a bit disappointing.

>meik kob
I haven't been to SA since DoAX3, have they fallen deeper into utter social justice crap?

>PALcuck cover
Lel

Why do bosses in this game take so long to kill?

IIt wasn't he really a pain for me. I'm not hurt.

>really no other difference between Azel and Gene
Gene boss will do a half moon kick instead of a reverse sweep as a counter for high attacks
Shaolin Blast will be double Shaolin instead
otherwise, not much notable difference. What works for Azel will work for Gene

you can. either via counters, low attacks like sweeps, when he is mid air/juggled, when he gets dizzied etc.

I kinda wish their Godhand worked a bit more like Gene's. as in if he activates it, he becomes literally FUCKING INVINCIBLE

>tfw never got past the fags on hard mode

Considering how I love these sort of crazy action games I still can't figure out why I couldn't get into Viewtiful Joe

Something about the gameplay really rubs me off the wrong way

Nah. That's Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. It is however the most Cred Forumscore game ever made.
