Morrowind & Oblivion both had godly comfy soundtracks. Skyrim had a good one as well but it went in a more cinematic/"epic" direction

>DB sanctuary before you kill everyone
>Walk around as a brother in arms
>Learn spells and buy assassin items from the vets serving sithis
>Hear about their tales of killing people
>Comfy as fuck twisted comradery.
>Finally get the call to go kill them all
>DB is never the same without them
>Only have a few filler NPC's to act as replacement shops that can optionally follow you around

>Skyrim comes out
>DB follows almost the exact same story line but still some how does it worse
>The characters seem so dull or listless
>No one has that sense of unity or tribe like affection for their own there
>Everyone always seems to be at each others throat (like everyone else in Skyrim)
There is one saving thing about Skyrims DB and that was the final mission, I enjoyed the dialogue the most but the mission itself was quite fun and allowed for a lot of freedom in how to complete the mission.

The Dreamgrove is the comfiest place I've ever been to
>remixed Darnassus music
>extention of the Emerald dream, which no one but Druids can get to
>fuck everything but the wilds, everything is okay here, everything is alright

ohh that's why I didn't recognise it. Skyrim is the worst TES game for me.

Right in the feels

fuck off Todd, why did you strip away the fun dynamic aspects of the NPC AI in skyrim just because "silly" things would happen in Oblivion?

I fucking loved those "silly" things, nothing better than seeing an NPC try and pick pocket bread from another NPC, get caught, then get chased around town by guards flinging silver swords while half the towns people lose their minds, either running away screaming or trying to murder the thief as well

Fuck you, Todd.

Call me crazy, but I like all three of the last tes games. They are all differently and deeply flawed, but the reason we are talking about them is that there's nothing comparable to them. There are sort of similar and better games like tes, but not something similar enough and better.

Never seen that game but it reminded me of Majesty.

Survival mods where you need to eat, drink, stay warm etc make things more comfy imo.

youtube.com/watch?v=Q2evIg-aYw8

Oblivion is, in my opinion, easily the weakest of all the Elder Scrolls games. It just felt so generally lackluster and fell short far too often for me to think it's better than any other Elder Scrolls game.

a few of the big overhauls remove level scaling but to different degrees. Requiem does away with quite a lot of it so you can meat much tougher opponents straight away, but IIRC it's not 100%, due to how the mod by nature is already incredibly difficult compared to vanilla.

Best to just look into them and see which one you prefer. Requiem is all about making it bit more like an old school RPG so you have be specialise, so thats to my personal taste but it's not for everyone. Some don't have the patience for how careful you have to be.

Better than Online.

Cheers dude

HONORED JEDIIISSS, HOWS ABOUT A RUBY BLIELS?

morrowind was my my first, but for me modded Oblivion was one of the best gaming experiences I've had. It had the best "living world" feeling of all the titles. With the right mods you never knew exactly what was going to happen with every trip because there was so much NPC/creature AI interaction going on around you.

You can still go to Goldshire.

youtu.be/wDVad7cagiw

Not that hard if you have arm and leg lock

Everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it is terrible like your's, otherwise everyone would get along and there would be world peace and you wouldn't want that. Putting down one of the few good games to have come out in the sandbox wrpg genre is foolish, there are so few games created in this genre and people like you make them even more risky to make with your dissent.

>not even a single picture of glorious rts known as WarWind.

I hear you, man. I play through Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim once every year, and even though they're all flawed in different ways they're enjoyable and comfy as fuck. I get why people hate on them and maybe I'm just autistic, but I've found no other game that manages to emulate the same atmosphere and draw me in like those three games do.

Games not hard yeah.

I've done all the "stories" besides the semi-future one so far. Where you play as "Akiria" it really annoyed me with the skull gang constantly spawning and after a certain point you stop getting exp.

Talk about a grind. I really liked the best fighter in the world and Kung Fu master chapters though. Caveman one was pretty good as well since you had optional bosses and a crafting system.

shiiiiiiiiiiit my nigger

youtu.be/Jgi1txjrKZk

There really no other game/franchise that does what TES does. And that's a problem, no comptetion breeds lazyness in bethesda.

Even the witcher, outside of the fantasy/medieval setting it's a completely different kind of game in terms of gameplay/freedom.

youtube.com/watch?v=v_f8UFv_Ytc

There was an optional boss with the Caveman? Odd, imo Wild West and Best fighter of the world are the best.

TAX COLLECTOR!

Which mods are you talking about? Also is this a mod where NPCs are fucking fighting with objects?

Oblivion is comfy af.

Hows the modding community?

Why would you post ogr when you could post pics of Shat on it's TBC clory.

When you play the caveman you can go back to the area you first get kicked out of (you can only do this mission with the caveman and monkey since its after the chick gets kidnapped" You sniff around and you can find this mammoth. Drops a really good item and by far the hardest fight I had in the game. Took a bit of grinding

Garbage, maybe five or so mods out there worth it, nobody did anything with it, total waste.
That was sarcasm, by the way

More like PTSD. I never want to suffer through the drag again that is Oblivion

>Get desire to replay TES
>Start up Skyrim
>Walk into a town
>See a guard
>"Ohhh, what's the matter? Somebody steal your sweetroll?" :^)

>I'm still talked down to by that fucking nigger in Whiterun and not only am I given no option to tell him to fuck off, but he's essential so I need to use console commands to kill him
On paper Bethesda games should be my favorite games ever, but they're just so lazy and content in their position and it reflects on their games. I can't be assed to spend three days modding the shit out of a game and doing bug testing every single time I get the urge to replay them, I just want Bethesda to make a good fucking game.

you did good, son

also you might find this funny, people taking it to esports level
youtube.com/watch?v=jTMmdakci4g

Amazing track.

I first played WC3 and really fell in love with the storyline, I would constantly read the manual which explained the story and when I went in the shops and saw WC2 with the expansion for like 5 dollars? Had to get that shit. Seeing characters from W2 in their earlier days was so surreal for me. Kind of understanding Grom Hellscream more, seeing a younger Uther, and understanding the spear throwing troll line of "Vengeance for Zuljin" made everything that lil bit better.

Why is it so good user ?

Fuck, was this really that recent? Every time I see Runescape 2 I get an early 2000's vibe, I can't believe it was less than 10 years ago that I was travelling through unexplored lands and working with my friends to build a trade network in Varrock. I remember how I fucking cheered and celebrated when I made my very first million gold selling pure essence.

NOPE NOPE NOPE FUCK YOU

...

>Every time I see Runescape 2 I get an early 2000's vibe
it came out in 2004.

the low-high-detail thing was phased out in like 2008, around the time the wilderness and free trade were removed.

Sauce?

Strolling around the city of Baldur's Gate was my favorite thing. I like BG2 overall more but Athkatla wasn't nearly as good.

I didnt take that screenshot, but it looks like someone has a mod that adds in objects as weapons... kinda makes sense actually.

Anyway for me, two big mods combined that really added more interaction to the world were OOO + MMM.

In vanilla Oblivion for example, there was little creature interaction:- i.e wolfs wouldn't hunt down deer/sheep etc. These mods massively improved things like that, different kinds of animals where split into "factions" so they'd interact, their AI was improved so they'd seek out water/food sources every so often. It really added to the world.

NPC AI was added to as well, and some nice new features. With OOO for example sometimes you'd find other adventurers randomly going into caves/ruins, fighting through them just like the player would, taking loot as they go! Sometimes they'd be aggressive towards you, sometimes they'd be happy to share the loot, really spiced things up.

On top of that, there was mods like adventures & travellers that simply added more NPCs to the world who would go about their business, and some that expanded the settlements with new named NPC's/houses etc. Add it all together and the world really started to feel alive, you never knew exactly what was going to happen. Skyrim feels frankly robotic in comparison, even when modded.

Only 1st person games are comfy.

I've tried a couple of times to play the game with such overhauls but it felt too different and alien to me, i wouldnt mind playing the game with no enemy scaling but every mod just takes it a step further and changes too many things.

>wilderness and free trade removed

Wtf Im glad I stopped playing before that travesty

>Wilderness and free trade were removed
Fucking WHAT? What possible justification could there possibly be for removing something like that?

it was added back like 4 years later after people kept begging and begging, right after jagex introduced a player poll feature, the first of which asked people if they really wanted those two aspects back, the poll won by like 98% difference.

Ohfuck hit me like a brick

...

>hostile alien world full of nasty people and animals with bad graphics and creepy music
>comfy

the free trade thing made it so that people wouldn't be able to trade past a 3k worth of wealth in difference, in order to avoid people from getting scammed and to prevent bots from trading mass amount of goods to the main account of the owner, it failed horribly and didn't do shit.

PKing was removed and replaced with a bounty hunter minigame where you'd be assigned a target in the wilderness and you'd have to hunt it which gave you points that you could trade for rewards like item upgrades, it failed horribly cause nobody liked it.

took them like 4 years for them to realize that though.

Sounds interesting, if I'm ever going to reinstall it, I will check these out. Also I thought the same about skyrim, really lacks immersion.

the trick is to get the mods to fit your taste, doing your research beforehand.

OOO was one of the biggest overhauls so it did change(tweak) quite a bit, though it did try to stay lore friendly. It (almost) completely did away with the level scaling, that was one of my favourite things. No more glass armour bandits appearing just because you hit a certain level. MMM was entirely creature/AI based, I couldnt play oblivion again with the MMM lore friendly version.

That's what worries me too, but if you can just adventure with your buddies and it's not just PvP, it could be fun.

i don't get why people seem to think that vanilla oblivion isn't enjoyable
i'm having a great time replaying it
all the stupid shit just makes me laugh

Fuck everytime I see screenshots from the Original dragon age I remember how captivating and engrossing the story was, how I looked forward for more quests and to advance the plot...

And then see what a fucking travesty DAI was. Fuck you bioware I hope all of you rot in hell.

Why play a mediocre game when you can mod it to be actually good?

Spyro games are so fucking cozy man. I replayed the third game a few months ago and I fell in love all over again.

Most stupid shit is easy to look past, but the sponginess. Oh god, the sponginess of every single enemy.

Cant seem to find anything worth installing, i've tried OOO, Francesco's and some other mod i cant recall and all of them either made the game a tad ruthless or too different, i do like extra features like crafting or new magic, but mostly its overdone. Just a lore-friendly overhaul that doesnt go overboard would be nice. I would also like to point out that i dont mind playing vanilla, so im not bothered by how the game is at its core.

it's enemies and items that level with you

Seems like L'Hiver

i don't mind it since i rarely do multiple playthroughs of any game

The scaling just kills it

also, don't enemies/items stop levelling up with you around level 20?

This.

Sounds like laziness to me.
Suit yourself with vanilla, I'll be enjoying the better game.

I think I could fap to those water animations, not sure about gameplay yet. But I'd probably play it for the ship battles alone. I love that shit.

On my first playthrough I tried to make a magic only char. It was my first TES game so I knew jackshit. I still have PTSD from that experience.
I played on PS3 so I couldn't cheaet and used a lot of rings with that stat glitch to buff my character, so I could finish the story instead.

Horde and the writing haven't been good since Wrath, you baby.

Have fun knowing 40% of the horde are shit-tier fucking blood elf trash.

The only people who like Oblivion still are nostalgic losers who enjoyed the first TES game that became more oriented towards action than rpg. If Oblivion was the first TES game you got into, you likely played it on console and likely not all that into rpgs. Oblivion is literally where the compass and quest markers started from, it has the worst level scaling I've ever seen, the voice acting is corny although to some I guess that gives it charm, the world building is TERRIBLE, and the quests are part of the problem, giving up world building in exchange for wacky or overly dramatic moments.

>music team
You mean Jeremy Soule. He was contracted to make the soundtracks for morrowind, oblivion & skyrim. He also made ones for guild wars and icewind dale.

>art team
God awful for Oblivion character wise, even taking into consideration how restricted they were with the size of the game. Massive improvement in skyrim. But art wise the TES series will never be AAA quality, the game is simply too big with too much content for it to work. And that's ok, gameplay is more important and mods can improve things slowly over time for those that want it.

There are mods that add detailed instructions for quests? I'm usually not the type of person to shit on modern gaming but I FUCKING HATE the objective markers every game has now a days. Yes. As somebody who didn't like Nehrim, Enderal fixes a lot of the glaring issues in terms of gameplay from the first time around. The story and a few major characters are marginally improved but still a little contrived and too derivative of Nehrim. I'd say try it out, at least.

>thinking your opinion is fact

did anyone else actually enjoy the huge generic forests and swamp in oblivion? especially on the southern and eastern side of the maps?i cant really describe it well they actually felt like you were immersed deep in a forest whereas skyrim just feels like a few unrealistically small biomes stitched together where youre never far from civilization

>american reading comprehension

youtu.be/b7rWs92CK7k

Shit makes me sad.

...

>skyrims graphics are top teir so its better

No, they aren't. Skyrim is an objectively better game for many reasons. The engine is fundamentally easier to fuck with and making mods is much easier. You couldn't go 3 minutes without something completely breaking in Oblivion normally, let alone once you tried modding it.

The games skill system was setup so that you could easily gimmick it and become very powerful very early. The world was small, the Oblivion gate system was shit, the combat was just a dumbed down shittier version of Skyrim's hack and slash shit.

The only thing Oblivion had going for it was more spells.

There is nothing that Oblivion does that Skyrim doesn't do better other than that.

Anyone?

Oblivion had the most dynamic NPC AI of any TES game. They outright removed aspects in skyrim, for example the responsibility system which dictacted if an NPC could commit crime, such as pick pocketing other NPCs or stealing from around them.

Skyrim certainly has better combat and is easier to mod, but saying "theres nothing that oblivion does better" is bullshit.

the combat in oblivion was floaty as hell, thats it, otherwise having the dedicated casting button that let you cast without fucking up the pacing of the fight and more spells to make use of it was way superior to skyrims clunky ass system thats shitty even when its not glitching up every time you change what is in each hand. oh and the shield bash was a great idea and much needed, ill give you that. combine that with he fact that there isn't a single quest in skyrim as good as even the generic fetch quests in oblivion and i really dont see what youre backing your claims with

I felt so at home in this small town, that I wanted to live there.

I provoked the shopkeeper until he attacked me, so I could kill without repercussions.

Then I moved into his house and used it as my home for the rest of the game as well as the expansions.

I miss my home.

pretty much this.

blizzard will eternally play up the Orcs and Stormwind Humans despite both being the most boring least interesting representatives of both their races.

Oh for god sake, everyone knows that was horseshit, and way to completely ignore a valid point. NPCs in Oblivion could commit crime, they could pickpocket, steal from around them, and actively take items found on corpses. They could steal food if they wanted some but didn't have any in their inventory, skyrim NPCs can't do anything like that. (skyrim NPCs don't even check their inventory for food, an animation just gets played).

Maybe actually go and look up the AI systems and what NPCs could do and what go toned down in skyrim. it's 100% fact that Oblivion AI could do more, Bethesda openly said it got toned down because sometimes " silly" things would happen.

Also, this place. Especially the inn.

Still get feels when I think about it.

People used to play these in internet cafes.

but user, npcs in skyrim could pick up everything you drop from your invintory and automatically put it back in, isnt that incredible?

>House of Earthly Delights.

Well done whore houses in both games.

>doesn't even address the point hes replying too, and just memes out
this right here is the gold standard of Cred Forums arguments

Was there even a whorehouse in Gothic I?
Might've made a mistake there.

Todd talked a load of bollocks about how dynamic the NPCs would be in oblivion. It's more dynamic than skyrim, but he still talked a load of shit at the time. The stuff shown in the video was scripted to happen and mostly didn't make it into the final NPC AI for the game.

Some of it can be found half-arsed in the code, i.e they did plan this really detailed, dynamic AI... but for whatever reason just thought fuck it and left a load of it out.

God user I loved the fable OST. It kills me that Lionhead is dead.

Say whatever you like about them and Peter molyneux, fable 1 and 2 were magical.

>nice soundtrack
>NPCs who can do things
>living/dynamic world
>safe & dangerous areas (you feel comfy when you know you're safe from something....)

actually I'm the guy that originally said Oblivion had the more dynamic AI... I'm just not blind to how much bollocks Todd talked before its release.

He did the same thing with FO4, no point in listening to a word the guy says.

This user gets it. Fable one gets it for me, both great OST and comfy settings. But the voice actors for fable are my favourite in any game.

Someone will say that this is an immersion breaking shitty design or a bug or whatever. I say this is what games nowadays lack. For all their bugs and glitches none of them are as funny as the old wankiness that was so common back then. Or maybe it's just nostalgia.

But damn weren't those things funny as fuck.

wow it sounds like everything else Jeremy Soule has ever done

>open ended gameplay
>do what you want
This is what makes games unfun, the problem with oblivion was the crap gameplay.

I might replay it on the hardest setting with permadeath mode, that would make it at least fun and tense

I didn't play Demon's Souls until 2013. I remember I had a week off work and played it every single day whilst listening to comfy podcasts.
I'll always cherish that memory, I don't have as much time to just relax now I'm older.

I would never dare to play with a permadeath a game in which a fucking barrel or some other object spazzing out can outright one shot me.

Stronghold was absolutely perfect.
If you want to watch resource chains, this game will tickle your fancy.

Could be nostalgia for me, too, but I do think something's been lost. The janky parts of older games, the ridiculously OP game breaking shit, all of that seems to have been weeded out completely and what's left is a sterile game with no life to it. I don't know.

If you want resource chains then go for Knights and Merchants. Now THAT'S fucking comfy.

Skyrim tried to replicate the Oblivion AI randomness by introducing radiant events, which worked for some stuff but made the world feel very... fake. You knew it was a scripted event triggered just because you where in the cell, and not because other beings in the world decided to do something based on their AI. I'm not a fan of feeling like the world revolves around me in a game, I want to feel like another entity who just happens to be there.

>This is what makes games unfun

For you maybe. I love being able to do what I like. In oblivion I used a mod that turned off the main quest & gates so I didn't have to be a hero and just focus on all the side stuff & adventuring.

I remember that video game

Was River of Time any good?

the problem for me wasn't the game play, though the combat was obviously way to floaty and spammy, the problem i had was that it suffered from the same "draugr dungeon" problem skyrim did, but at least at other things to make up for it which skyrim didnt really have. personally i think the best way to play oblivion is start with the difficulty raised till it suits you, then adjust it accordingly if the scaling goes out of wack, which is probably why they had a difficulty slider instead of just difficulties

>Cool GOAT game

One of my comfiest memories is walking all the way from Chorrol to Kvatch and bumping into many little quests across the way. I didn't know there was a fast travel option and man I wish I never found out.

That's why it's fun, you learn to be careful

I would end up stealing everything and going to jail again and again, because the penalty is much less than death

I was fucking flabbergasted when I discovered there is a fast travel options AND I have all the cities already unlocked.

disabling fast travel in oblivion & skyrim is a MUST do for me. Top it off with survival mods so you need to eat/drink/sleep, camp out and it adds sooo much more to the game. Much more to think about & plan ahead for.

I'd say look at tabletop games like Ryuutama and the like, along with "comfy" mods

Also Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley do comfy really well too

dont suppose you could recommend a survival mod could you?

I tried using frostfall but the problem is the world is too small for it to really work. You walk five steps and you are already freezing to death because in game it was a long journey. Can't be assed to use it on such scale. Make the world 3 times as big and I will gladly take it.

Difficulty sliders are a crapout. It's like saying "we couldn't balance the game so you have to do it".

Difficulty is the main part of the game, without it there is no challenge or fun

Yeah I do this, makes the game a lot more chill, if you don't mind the pun.

>difficulty is the main part of the game
That's a bold statement if you're referring to games in general and even in Oblivion I wouldn't say it applies. Never played it for the challenge myself, just comfyness and stupid shit.

>those rocks
My fucking eyes

What the fuck has the game's quality as an RPG got to do with its comfiness? There's always some turbo-autist who gets triggered the second Oblivion gets posted, regardless of the context

oh definitely, its criminal desu, i was just saying that its not the worst workaround if youre too lazy to completely mod it out and want the game balanced somewhat how you want it

Frostfall can be hard when you're just starting out with it. It's definitely for gamers who want to take their time.

Your natural resistance to cold improves with time in frostfall, and you can unlock perks to increase it & become better at survival skills. It takes time though, gotta be real careful in the beginning and always wear warm fur clothes if you're up north.

Personally I love it, and I mix it in with requiem and realistic needs which only make things even tougher.

Better. It fixed most of the problems and is fully voice acted.

>tfw this image perfectly encapsulates why oblivion was superior to skyrim

...

FUCK. I love you user. Thank you for making me remember this song

>Three NPCs murdering each other while another smashes down a bottle of wine and the player isn't even involved

fuck I loved Oblivion

...

>I didn't know there was a fast travel option and man I wish I never found out.
this

I can't do this. The game is designed around fast travel. Quests keep sending you across the world.
I wish quests were all more localized.

It was beyond comfy.

Best comfy game ever.

Morrowind, Enderal and Nehrim were much better in this regard. Proper ways to get round a map.

the Real-time carriage mod in skyrim is cool for this, use it to get the nearest town (near the objective) while just chilling. I don't like using fast travel because half the fun in TES is the random shit you can come across while travelling.

>Dungeon keeper
>Theme park
>Populous
>Black & white.

Peter molyneux was on a fucking roll.

I really don't think Morrowind was much better having just recently played it.
In fact it felt far more tedious using Almsivi restoration, Imperial teleports, Mage's Guild teleports, mark/recalls to get around. Walk the same paths over and over.

nehrim is even comfier than vanilla

too bad they use a different universe

depends on your school of thought. some people enjoy the old classics of exploring dungeons, and not having it mapped out entirely for you, other people just wanna run in and know where things are.

the defining factor though is whether or not you have quick travel as an option (like using marks/recall) or a requrement (since there is literally nothing in the world to find/explore, or having to backtrack out of a dungeon through the same enemy spawns).

The game truly has a quality all its own

The morrowind vs oblivion vs skyrim argument is daily event on Cred Forums.

If you look at it pragmatically, each has its Pros & cons. Modded oblivion is my personal favourite but I can see why others would prefer the other two depending on their personal taste.

That was the map that came with the demo on Gamespy arcade. Then the full game came out, and all gamespy servers was Omaha beach.

T'was a mystical experience.,

I know that people get all caught up in cycles in this place, but I do think that it took skyrim to come out for people to appreciate just how good the quests and faction questlines were in oblivion. Morrowind has by far the best setting, lore and main story, but the factions and individual quests are so subpar when compared to oblivions.

I fucking remember playing that game on PS2 with my friend

good times

I always liked Oblivion, and also really liked Morrowind.

Both have their ups and downs, and different levels of comfy feels. Oblivion feels like a nice soft bed, while Morrowind feels like a comfy hut with candles flickering around you, and your bed is a hammock.

The sound of BAR in Mohaa made it one of my favorite weapons in ww2 games. It just felt so powerful. It was alright in Call of Duty too.

I've recently finished the first part of the game. It ended on a huge cliffhanger and apparently the sequel didn't even follow it up. That aside, abs on women are hot.

why not? the game aged really well and is still easily playable

Ancient gates is actually my favorite. It's true the sequel didn't follow up, but without being blinded by nostalgia goggles I honestly believe Ancient gates is one of the best RPG games (for its time). I love the game. The amount of weapons, armor, spells and awesome places to go.

It's such a shame that ToS ended being what it was.

you cant climb it but you can mash the jump button and l;levitate up it probably

I actually haven't played it, so I'm largely ignorant on the matter. Might give it a try eventually. I enjoyed how powerful you felt in the first game, if you managed to lure enemies you were supposed to face indoors or on foot towards Arokh and then just gib them in droves.

demon's souls was so fucking good

my personal favorite soulsbourne, it has levels that haven't really been touched by anything in the darksouls series
