I can barely even get to the first fight with Sakuya with Reimu A.

Reimu A is best for stages, worst for Bosses, and has a good bomb.

Sacrificing the homing seems like a bad idea though, since a lot of the bullet patterns lock me in place. It also makes it so for a few of those parts where you can just sit on the top of the screen and farm enemies for a while, you actually have to do work.

Homing is almost always a shit shot, don't rely on it.

Well, homing has both non-homing shots for medium damage and homing low damage shots,which results in relatively okay damage when combined.

With that, you can shoot the boss directly at the start of the spellcard or pattern and then just focus on dodging and let the homing shots do the rest of the job.

EoSD has very few extends like TD does, though it has much more difficult patterns than TD, on top of not having Trance, of course.

For TD, if you have a low mobility bomb like Marisa's, you have to already be on top of the boss to get good spirit drops from bombing. You can play defensively with every other character and still get a lot of spirit because you can move during the bomb. This translates to essentially Trancing constantly without ever having to dodge anything. Marisa can do the same thing, but you have to have already committed to that kind of playstyle.
