Rare didn't have to shoehorn Arwing stages, neither ruin the canon.
Rare sdidn't have to focus on super "realistic" fur, instead shozuld have focussed on gameplay, leveldesign, questdesign and other shit.
Also the Stampers sold Rare to MS, forcing the development to rush even further and cut content.

Adventure is not bad because of StarFox, it's bad because Rare at that time couldn't get their shit together.

Here's the thing, friend. Game alphas/betas aren't identical to the final product. The time that is spent during the last stages of production is used on improving the gameplay when you put it in front of testers / focus groups.

Rare spent all of the time they would have otherwise used to refine Dinosaur Planet on recoding it virtually from scratch for Gamecube.

But they did make a good Star Fox game just recently.

1) Starfox's father is a racer in F-ZERO X and GX, therefore the F-ZERO games take place before Starfox. He races in a modified Arwing or proto/early Arwing model.
2) There's a Starfox game epilogue where Starfox characters enter the F-ZERO races, which clearly cements they both exist in the same universe.
3) The Takora (Octoman), the apeman (Billy), and possibly Leon, all fit in both. The Takora appear in Starfox by name as an Alien race.
4) Both Starfox and F-ZERO use G-Diffuser technology by name.

The only thing that doesn't fit is: Starfox's father was human... but this is easily accountable by some of the more fantastical elements in either setting. At least Star Fox and Ratchet and Clank have some common ground, particularly with Star Fox Assault.

Miyamoto is directly controlling all aspects of development, instead of letting a team work on it like Star Fox and 64 did.

The only game Krystal was in that I would say was actually bad was Star Fox Command. Adventures may not have been the sequel to Star Fox 64 that the fans were waiting for, but I thought on its own merits it was a solid adventure game with great atmosphere.

Star Fox Assault may very well be my favorite game in the series. I can't quite say it was everything I liked about 64 except bigger and better, but it was close enough for me. Some of the level designs were weak and it needed more content, but the multiplayer was a blast and I can really respect the fact that they were expanding the scope of Star Fox into something bigger than just a simple arcade game.

I think the biggest detriment to the Star Fox series is the fact that Nintendo did not follow up Star Fox Assault with a proper sequel. They basically dumped the future of the franchise on Command, which should have been a spinoff released as a tie in to Star Fox Assault's actual sequel on the Wii, rather than treating Command as if it was the sequel to Assault. It was a very unsatisfying followup and even if we look past the terrible writing, the story was basically written as the end chapter of the Star Fox series, as if to lay the whole thing to rest. It's like Command was designed from the outset to be the poison pill that would kill Star Fox.

Bring back on foot segments but make the controls more fluid, allow for MP modes to have straight up aerial dogfights, side scrolling mech battles like in Metal Warriors' vs mode, and a combination vehicle/on foot deathmatch mode like in starfox assault.

add different characters for the campaign with their own unique ships and mechanics, keep the alternate paths because that's cool

What? No, just because their games aren't the best that doesn't change the solid quality that Nintendo usually delivers.
Nowadays they may not be genre defining like in the past (and some could even blame its own fanbase for hating changes) but they do make extremely well polished games (wich should be industry standart, but for some reason we grew used to bugs in everyfucking release recently) with roundabout gameplay.
While disagreeing in taste, I don't think one can really say games like Donkey Kong Tropical, Splatoon and Kirby Robobot are straight up bad games.
