>it's just an advanced version of the shitty minigame you were forced to play throughout the game

>Final boss is a sudoku puzzle

I. Hear. A. Sound
youtube.com/watch?v=qaB8xEik488

I like it when games do this. Surprise is one element in the game makers toolbox not used often enough

>Final boss is a QTE

>final boss requires you to hit a final blow
>If you miss you die.

Halo 4 is unforgivable

>game has "mute hero" protagonist
>still shouts out his attack names in battle

Fucking Sonic Unleashed

>Final Boss gives XP
>no new game+

>everything pass 1000
wew

Far cry 3. I didn't even give a shit about him.

is there a stepmania/ddr chart for this?

>final boss
>its a movie where you have to press play 3 times
youtube.com/watch?v=WE4Lh3zgNW4
what a fucking awful game

I never will get that ending
I don't even want to try that shit again
When my screen went black and it wasn't over I quit

All the best Kirby final bosses do this

>you will never be even nearly coordinated for anything like this, ever

>2nd to last boss
>massive battle with loud explosive epic music with the entire team
>last boss
>meloncholy protagonist vs antagonist duel with soft/no music

Just play nothing but rhythm shit for 5 years straight and you'll marginally git gud.

youtube.com/watch?v=49gLC9yiGOg

Lost Planet
Star Fox Adventure

What else?

>Still have to hit notes after the screen cuts to black

Fuck
that

AWWWWW YEAH
youtube.com/watch?v=C7y6A8_Zpvc

MGS 4, kind of.

>RPG with multiple branching paths that leads to different characters
>No New Game +

oh and don't miss a note or that already very difficult 7 minutes was for nothing
not to mention the audio ques are slightly off after the screen fades

>Games that have branching paths.
>Same shitty copy and paste ending.

>tell the developers to throw in some bullshit camera angles
>they actually did it
Those absolute mad men.

>DMC1
>Final Boss has a SHMUP section

Fucking Drakengard 3

taro exist only to destroy

ok so i've never played drakengard but how many times can you miss before you fail? Is there a hidden health value? Can you fuck up, gain health by getting consecutive hits and still fuck up another hit later like every other rhythm game? How lenient is the timing to catch the ring?

Jesus

the best

Why has this never been at AGDQ?

One hit kills you, you have about a quarter second from when you hit the button to when the ring hits you to block it

>how many times can you miss
don't miss

>but how many times can you miss
Point and laugh class.

This ainĀ“t gitaroo man.

>final boss is just a bigger, badder version of everything you've ever fought the whole game
>sigh
>beat down his hp bar
>boss changes form into regular man
>cutscene
>dialog, human boss drops to his knees, hero pointing gun to his head
>game stops
>still in off camera view
>...
>what's up with this cutscene?
>...
>you have to pull the trigger.

I don't remember hardly jack form that game.

But damn do I remember that ending.

...

God fucking damn shadow of middle earth, it was so built up too.

Think of it like a no hit run of HarmoKnights final stage but you're not drunk and will likely break twice as much.

Is there a version of this gif without the pause? For...reasons.

>get beaten by the final boss's right hand man 100000 times
>beat final boss first try

>that point onwards from 4:19
jesus christ.

For some reason this never bothered me and I kind of expect it. Maybe because years of running into "that level" you grow to love that the hardest part of a game isn't the very end.

hory shet, now that's something right there

>Fable 2
>Final Boss becomes The Absolute Overlord of Shit Fuck
>you shoot him with a gun
>he falls off the cliff for eternity

>boss is ALL quick time events

>Japanese people take video games so this seriously
>Japan's population will never, ever recover

>not mentioning it's fast mode
youtube.com/watch?v=wSB1Xlp9XZg
If Gamefreak wasn't stuck making Pokemon they could be another band of demons plaguing the rhythm genre

>not saitama 2000
youtube.com/watch?v=NGY1gmVZVlo

YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME!?

>if you just let him talk, your companion gets bored and shoots him with his gun instead

>game is ALL quick time events
#4theplayers

It needs to be flipping the bar around and sometimes sending it off screen for the authentic experience

there's no way to speedrun a rhythm game because the song always lasts the same time

just beating the game without failing a song once is a very, very low bar to set

half the point of most japanese arcade games is to impress onlookers

How do you speedrun a set track? Sure it takes skill but so does playing an actual instrument.

Thats any arcade

youtube.com/watch?v=VSAoggVnbb4

>game is piss easy
>final boss is ridiculously hard and forces you to play in ways you never had to in the rest of the game

I feel like this should be a pinball machine

if this is what he made before Five Nights, good for him for cashing the fuck out

They had Stepmania (or something similar) at the last event. A sort of "showcase" segment instead of an actual speedrun. It was a cool segment because the guy explained stuff about custom songs and how people have to be very careful when setting their own notes, and how many frames you have to land perfects or greats. Was one of the high lights last time I watched. I'd imagine Taiko Drum or whatever it's called would make for a fun segment.

youtube.com/watch?v=0YbRclMWFcE

It's free on Steam if anyone cares

>[rattling intensifies]

>Final Boss gives you unlimited use of your special attacks.

Holy shit, that sounds so much better.

what the holy fuck is going on there

I'm glad you told me, I wanna give it a shot now that I've seen it.

youtube.com/watch?v=Lmtez97NtGQ

>Boss is so hard he forces you to use all your items
>You were actually supposed to lose and fight him later

>OST version lowers the percussion parts of the song to barely audible levels

If you could play with a guitar hero controller it wouldn't be so bad

Name ONE game

WET

Bayonetta

FFT

A few Star Ocean games

HDNV-II, normal ending

Matrix Path of Neo

What happens if you refuse to do the final blow on OoT? Also, what happens if you let the timer run out on the tower collapse?

Ganon gets back up and the fight starts back like when you grabbed the master sword, and you lose a heart and the tower escape cutscene plays again. Nothing interesting.

Drakengard 3, faggot

Robobot.

Okay first of all, none of those "games" are real games that grown men play and second of all, they don't change genre. Matrix is still a shooty game, drakengard 3 is still a drakengard game, robobot is still a robobot game

Tales of syphonia has a fight like that. The difference is there is actually a cool alternate scene if you beat him showing you winning, I think you get an amazing unique item, and a shit ton of exp.

It required rein for you to pull it off though with her insane AOE heal.

your mom changed genres after I gave her the dick

Congrats, you win my retard of the day award. Be proud.

>final boss
>it's a quick-time cut-scene

Devil may Cry 1.

>acting like this is hard
Try doing to original one

>robobot is still a robobot game
The final boss is a completely different genre you fucking idiot.

>game goes from hack n' slash into rhythm game

Do you even know what the meaning of genre is?

@353251162

You're not getting my (You) today faggot.

What would the coolest genre shift be? I find rhythm a little too easy. Are there any that switch into a fighting game?

Ashura's wrath did it in the DLC with akuma

>every fps game since last gen

>IT WAS ME REAN, IT WAS ME THE WHOLE TIME

>game turns into xenogears

Ya you can't pull that shit on me. Literally none of you backed up your argument one bit, just said "haha you're wrong". They are the same game before and after the fight. Just because you liked the fight does not mean the game "changed genre". That's impossible. Btw, I took logic. I can smell bullshit and logical fallacies a mile away.

I'm still mad

Fucking destroyed.

The fuck is this, Revolution 60?

@353252228

>"Not an argument" meme.
>Has to use impact text image from a generator site that uses watermarks instead of making it himself via photoshop.
>Doesn't put the period before the closing quotation mark.
>Btw.

You gotta try harder to deserve my precious (You)s.

The simpsons game

I cant think of one person that will excuse this, let alone enjoy it. Everybody absolutely fucking hates it when it happens, fans, reviewers, you name it, but for some reason it still fucking shows up every so often.

Kinda sounds like Skyward Sword, if you consider the Girahim fights minigames. Sure didn't feel like boss fights.

I wish I could enjoy games as much as this guy.

God Hand not HDNV.

Fucking Dying Light even had bosses before, there was no excuse for that, no fucking excuse

>Game has an obligatory boss battle because it's a video game and has to have boss battles even though it doesn't fit the story or even genre of the game at all

...

undertale

>Doesn't put the period before the closing quotation mark

That's how we do it in the UK by the way. The guy is a retard no doubt, but I just thought I should point that out.

Federation Force?

>Accidentally walk into the final boss when you just wanted to keep exploring the final dungeon
>Have your party as the wrong classes and without the proper boss fighting gear
>Win anyways

>easily
>feel unaccomplished

...

Like starfox adventures?

>The robot cries

I don't know if I really agree with this one, you go from dodging shit to dodging shit, except without the usual action bars.

>Final boss has the same moveset as you.

Adventures of Link?

...

da bes

Which final bosses made you feel the most emotion? Mine are MGS4 and DS3

TAKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...

Wtf

...

MGS4

THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is this game and why is it playing a song from Drakengard?

...

Magic Knight Rayearth for Sega Saturn

Shapeshifter for TurboGrafx CD

CrossCode?

>final boss can only be killed by a 48 random button QTE in a very short timeframe
>running out of time or messing up gives him a second wind and loops back into the final phase of the fight

just outright increidble

Took me awhile to realize what the hell I was looking at.

What would make you post something like this?

Doesn't look that bad, but what in the unholy fuck is the timing for that last note?

Holy shit why havent i ever seen this game before? this shit looks fantastic. Getting it as we speak

Htol#Niq. Penultimate boss fight is basically a test of reflexes and memory, while the final boss fight is a tower defense.

>everybody hypes this up
>mediocre rail shooter boss
It was shitty and drawn out.

>final boss
>gameplay changes to an entirely different genre
>it's amazing

this is the worst game design meme of all time

>Final Boss is a Punch-Out mini-game

Jackie Chan

>final boss
>have to punch the shit out of her with your bare hands

>all of that
>just B rank

>Final boss
>Game main theme/OP start playing

I don't understand how you're supposed to fucking see the last part.

you aren't

I was thinking Breath of Fire 3 myself.

Drakengard

>Final boss gets a powerup
>You get one too

This will never not make me mad.
Awesome twist in an awesome story with awesome puzzles, although some were a bit much but still.

How do we end it? Let's slooooow things down at the most climactic and exciting part of the game with the worlds slowest and most chilled out puzzle genre out there. The design was awesome (flipping the DS upside down was a creative touch) but fucking sudoku man? Come the fuck on.

Can we just have drakengard threads instead of giving hits everytime?

Taiko Drum Master, Namco's rhythm game where you play on a Taiko Drum. Gotta hit the left and right centers as well as the left and right sides in time with the music. It looks really simple but the timing is fucking tough. I Hear A Sound is an extremely rare and near impossible case for this game. There was a game localized for PS2, complete with the Taiko Drum controller. Unfortunately, my controller is broken. I guess it's expected since you're beating a fucking drum so go figure. My Rock Band drums lasted way longer though.

Kirby games often do this.

I still haven't beaten this fight in Drakengard 3 yet, haunts me to this day.

>(flipping the DS upside down was a creative touch)

reminds me of the bullshit close-the-DS map-copying puzzle from Phantom Hourglass

shit like that never fails to bring my blood to a boil

I also find it kind of hard to believe that that is legit gameplay, since the Taiko Drum Master games have an auto-play option. It's definitely up there with those ridiculous Beatmania games though.

>Most of the game is generally happy, following the daring adventures of the protagonist to find a mystical macguffin or something along those lines.
>Final boss throws that shit out the window

>Final Boss is an evil you from an alternate dimension

>You are the final boss

>reminds me of the bullshit close-the-DS map-copying puzzle from Phantom Hourglass
I liked that a lot. It took me a while to figure out on my own but I thought it was really clever. Reminds me of that neat Startropics puzzle where you had to dip the instruction booklet in water to reveal a password.

Super Mario Land 2 was pretty neat.

>Final Boss comes out of nowhere, has little to no relation to the story as a whole, is never mentioned before or during the game's epilogue, and is absurdly powerful
Any game other than Final Fantasy 9 that does this?

Metal gear solid 4

starts with a slow debuff on boss and then goes on to try to build reses and then attack and speed buffs to then move on to damage over time skills and then finally go on to focus on damage skills while keeping attentive that all buffs and debuffs on boss are active as constantly as possible.

boss one shots no matter what and is essentially a trial on knowing and mastering the game mechanics

autoplay replaces your drum with the robot
it's legit user

Fuck Sanzaru forever for doing this to Sly 4

Star Fox Adventure

Warioware

Fallout NV

professah!!!

Fucking Dying Light QTE final boss

The Scales dragon from Dark Souls 1

>kirby sucks up halberd
as shit as the fight might be, that part was the hypest shit

>Fighting final boss
>youtu.be/LBna1sm6XhY
>UNLIMITED COLORS!
>LASER! DRILL! SPIKES! ROCKET! CUBE! HOVER! FRENZY!
>FINAL COLOR BLASTER!

>final boss
>the final boss is actually you
>if you defeat your party you get the bad ending
>have to lose on purpose for the good ending

>final boss has a difficult qte lead up to the first phase of the fight
>this leads into another difficult qte that also leads to the sdcond phase of the fight
>final qte is ludicrous
>you miss any input, you start from the very first qte

Fucking Shenmue 2

Name seven hundred billion games that do this
but seriously what game

...

Wonderful 101 turned into Punchout at one point, that was interesting.

Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World

youtube.com/watch?v=awEAFwyB_fE&t=10m31s

>Stream Watcher: Why did you made the final boss so hard!?
>Yoko Taro: Because is final boss

that's just it
there IS no timing for the last note

>game where you go left to right the whole time
>In the final boss you go right to left

Oh my fucking god I know what you are talking about.

>He STILL got stuck with Ghirahim

Pathetic

Oh, hey, what's that? A good Sonic game? NOT ON MY WATCH!

...

>Game suddenly turns into Punch Out against the alien bitch who stole your boyfriend

I wonder what Twisted Pixel are doing right now

Xenoblade Chronicles X?
>Do you remember anything about the current situation?
>Silently shake head
>Hmm, you must be amnesiac from the stasis. You'll need a weapon though, here take this knife and gun
>Silently nod
>FLAME GRENADE! ASSAULT HAMMER! I NEED HEALING! NOW, TOPPLE THEM!

>Boss does this time reversal shit halfway though the battle

>If you don't stop him, he restarts the entire battle

>get to the final boss
>It's in the ruins of the previous boss fight
>Portals of infinite enemies coming to you
>Remix of the main theme plays

Apparently the key to actually doing good is just ignore the visual and just focus on the rhythm.

...

Holy shit

But you're not mute. You get dialouge options too. They just didn't pay to have everything voiced.

not a final boss but still, this and the fucking clown race

I was totally expecting him to drop the last note

Hah, that sort of reminded me of Lunar Knights.

but the time between the note and the time you're supposed to press varies when the rythm slows down

There's no consistent frame of reference for the last parts

this was way more of a genre shift
shit turned into a fightan game

>Final Boss uses same attack combo as a common enemy you've fought dozens of times.
Damn you Gwyn! I expected more from you but then you used that damn same three hit combo of the black/silver knights and I parried your ass without even thinking about it. I farmed those silver knights in Anor Londo so much for all their drops that it was second nature as soon as I saw the combo.

QTEs in general are fucking disgusting and almost ruined the xenoblade games for me.

A good bit of Sonic games

youtube.com/watch?v=X2ZAU9ALirw

>Choosing a cue sound with multiple attacks in it

wew lad

It's not always bad.
youtube.com/watch?v=ZKUrWCXuuXQ

>both of you are dying
>both of you are shirtless
>both of you have nothing to lose

Castlevania: Lords of Shadows

Crash Bandicoot 2

fug, thats pretty gud

>MMO boss fight
>It has quick time events

youtube.com/watch?v=hb0P9jHV8dQ

>Final boss is girl with japanse seikufu
>50,000 HP

I mean, that's just the finale after an actual multi-stage boss fight. "The final boss is a QTE" usually means you never fight them normally using the game's mechanics.

That's just the finishing move being a QTE, not the entire fucking fight which is what people dislike

>The two Bowser's are doing something diabolical

>Has to do with all these gems they are forcing toads to mine

>They are building up as a secret project and stalling you till it's ready

>All it is was just to make his castle airborne

You wut

blimp

God, the acoustic version of The Legendary Theme is so beautiful. If only the Dreamcast succeeded.
youtube.com/watch?v=zacUcCCOoRw

Are you kidding?
The entire Jergingah boss lasted forever. The QTE is the nice little theatrical cherry on top. A satisfying and dramatic way to kill the boss.

A QTE at the end of the boss is fine.
If the boss is QTE only, that's unforgivable

>Final boss is a QTE
>Has his own QTE prompts
>They're in his own weird ass language
>Ends up failing his own QTEs if you fuck him up enough

Holy shit that frame rate.

Is the rest of the game like this?

Asura's Wrath, right?

The framerate is all over the place, and heavily depends on the playstation version. It can even go down to completely unplayable even for the 'cinematic experience' audience.

What is his next Masochistic escapade going to be? The final boss is Zork?

Apparently there's gonna be a boss that intentionally fucks with the framerate

>The final boss is Zork?
>final boss is literally the whole game of Zork, but timed and all the text and typed letters are in some made up language.

to be fair the entire game is a QTE, seeing the final boss having the power of the QTE was pretty dope

Fun fact, Yoko Taro is married to the artist of the Taiko games

Asura's Wrath?

Borderlands
It wasn't too strong tho

Aren't rhythm games basically qte?

You can die like that versus Satan?

...

Is there a ng+ mod for FNV?

That's something he said he once considered doing while giving a GDC talk. Time will tell if the madman will actually be able to get away with it.

>final boss
>game puts you into a super mode and removes all stamina/mp limits

What games let me bathe with girls in tiny barrel bathtubs?

>Final boss has you kill a little girl. She's extremely easier than the rest of the bosses.
>Unless you break the cycle of genocide.
>This is your fight.

>despite this game breaking power up, the boss is still very difficult
I would trade my left nut for a game that manages to pull this off

Man every boss in Furi was great. Except the fucking Burst but that might just be me.

Vanquish
