Here are some general rules of thumb I've followed that got good results:
-Think outside the box on what to tag. As in, if you're drawing a character from Monster Hunter, tag Capcom in as well. There are capcom fanblogs that monitor this tags and will reblog that stuff. Nintendo character, tag in "nintendo" or "nintendo girl/character/game"
-Don't be afraid to go overboard with your tags. You're not hurting anything by being specific. If you're drawing from Wind Waker, tag #tloz, #the legend of zelda, #the legend of zelda wind waker, #wind waker, etc. Different people subscribe to different tags, so cover all your bases.
If you're drawing porn, tag it like a booru entry. Get very specific with every possible act. I drew a shitty female humanized gore magala a looong time ago. I didn't expect it to get a lot of attention, but you tag it with stuff like #pinup, #pinupgirl, #sexy it ends up getting some good exposure as opposed to just a few tags like #monster hunter and #gore magala.
-Make the first 5 or 10 tags diverse, very specific highly used tags pertaining to the subject matter. It's an old rule that the first few tags are the most important, but I don't think that's no longer valid. Still, it doesn't hurt.
-The quirky tag shit isn't helping. "#I'm shit at art please don't laugh" isn't helping anything.
-Try some artist tags, like #artists on tumblr, #illustration, #fanart, etc
-Really, really research tags. Make it part of your process when you're working on a drawing. Look for active tags regarding what you're drawing. Which tags have more results? That's probably the tag that will have the most people subscribed to it.

It also helps if you post late in the afternoon during American hours, like around 8pm eastern time. I've noticed my drawings will get picked up and reblogged much faster around those times as opposed to early morning or work hours.
