Depends on framerate. Take SMTIV.
Cutscenes run at 5 FPS so they're shit anyway.
2D talk scenes run at double the speed so speech is shit as well. There's text for that anyway so no problem.
Majority of rest keeps a nice and comfy region except largest maps like the government building plaza that has all the stairs or Naraku 3 that someone had a bright idea to make a single giant sector.

You should level balor before fusing him if you are going MAG, his last spell is agidyne and if you fuse him with Baphomet and clear out his mamudo you can get it in one level up

Everything in magic and agility, give Flynn every elemental spell and concentrate, then maybe healing or -karn spells.

Pick STR, DEX or MAG and ignore the other 2.
Get 1 point of AGI every level, 2 on Apocalypse difficulty.
Get a moderate amount of LUK if you're STR or DEX for the crit. Magic can't crit except by smirking.

Well, all of that is still true except the STR part because STR is shit in IV, DEX covers both physical and gun skills.

Dex was legit better than mag late game, it was just harder early on
In Apocalylpse strength governs phys and dex governs gun, they are harder early but you get pierce and charge as well as crit eye fairly early on

Would you say it's better to focus physical or magic for the player character?

I usually do the physical/tank role for some of my demons.

The STR stat scales the best with a lot of points pumped into it, and Nanashi will have like twice the STR of a demon of the same level because you don't have to waste points in DEX and MAG. Same goes for DEX and Flynn in IV.

That's why physical MC and magic demons are best.

Magic. Get Loki as soon as possible for all the -dyne skills

High pixie has hard nips I'm pretty sure.

I think phys/gun with buffs is the best build, because you only need three skills for attacks (single target, all and charge) and can the rest on buffs, energy drain or whatever.

MAG is the most straightforward as it allows you to take advantage of every weakness early on and maintains relevance as it can now crit so 3 MAG and 1 LUK 1 AGI is even better now
