>You will never be a qt that plays vidya for fun

End me

This thread scares me. Again

Silent Hill 1-3 and Donkey Kong Country

Except for jumpscares, no.

P.T. (when played at 2-3AM with no lights on and headphones)

Amnesia gave me a good scare from time to time

Most vidya scares me. I'm always paranoid that my character will die. I know I'm being retarded, but for some reason, I still get terrified by most games, even non-horror games.

Isolation creeped the ever living hell out of me

...

>you will never receive Hideo's throbbing BIG BOSS in your slutty pussy

Opening the first Mimic in "Legend of Grimrock 2"... Holy fuck...

Maybe he tried with his 2 incher and told her to stay quiet.

There's a glitch in call of cthulhu that causes the game to freeze when while zoomed in on a hanged women, I kept waiting for the game to do something but you're just stuck there watching a dead body silently twist around on a rope.

This made me freak out a little bit.

The most recent horror game I tried was RE7, played the lantern demo with the PSVR headset on, I wasn't scared at all, probably cause I was a giddy as mofo finally getting the chance to play the game.
I'd like to think the full game where I can run and shoot is a more scary experience.

Eileen head SH4
Only thing in vidya to ever make me involuntary scream

What's psvr like?

Nothing ever happened with this

Well I tried out a few games, Robinson, RE7, Valkyrie, Rush of Blood and Farpoint.
I really enjoyed Farpoint, it came with pic related.
Shooting bugs felt very natural, easy for me to track enemies with my weapon.
Some other games didn't feel so great with the controller and would need a bit of tuning.
The visuals were a bit off, reading small sentences was difficult to do there's a screen door effect, the same type of thing with other VR products though and the graphics weren't as smooth as I'd have liked them to be, dunno if that'll be fixed with PS4 Pro.

STALKER
On of the X-laboratories

What game is this?

Masochisia. in retrospect it was edgy and could have been written better.

yeah

since then nothing scares me

For a great weekend of super cary spooky.

mah nig

silent hills, i think

d-do i have a decent collection user?

PT

>kojima has to pay an annual silence fee to quiet
>she knew his dick wasnt shit, but slept with him anyway for this bribe to work

clever girl

what is the psychology behind that games where you cant fight back like p.t and outlast are not scary pieces of shit while games were you can fight back like stalker is fucking scary when you go into a bloodsucker nest like you can feel your leg getting cold and your heart pounding.and i actually get jumpscared when an enemy pops up behind me?

I want comfy ps2 gaming days with my old friends back

not bad at all
fatal frame, tekken, silent hill, soul calibur
IS THAT 2 TOWERS

are you me?

explain

Cry of fear
I nearly threw my laptop out the window along with myself. I didn't even reach the first enemy.

Do NOT play this fucking game.
The music and HL1 engine just add to the spookiness.

it's about the immersion

I liked the setting of this game but the screamer in the beginning really annoyed me.

Regenerators and the cloaking bugs in that underground prison in RE4 scared me when I first played it.

it's because they're both eliciting different responses
in one situation, you're helpless, so against any spooks you know you're just fucked. this can break the spooky immersion for some.
in the other, you're not helpless, just incredibly outmatched. this is more an anxious thing than a spooky thing but it gives a similar feeling in the player.

Silent Hill 3. If you stay there looking at the mirror shit goes all fucky and Heather's reflection turns all bloody, then you die.

We all do bruh... How did that early 2000's PS2 aesthetic get it just right? ;_;

The fact that so many zombie survival games and 2deep4u walking simulators reflecting the intricate depth of the anuses devs can penetrate their heads through are funded by so many chucklefucks scares me.

Speaking of which

what are some other good spooky co-op games or mods? shits always fun to play in sven

What game is this?

It made my heart jump out of my chest and onto the floor. I wear headphones so it was even worse. I was then so on edge that I couldnt even make it to the first enemy because I was expecting something to jump out of every air vent and hole in the wall.

It's PT, the playable teaser that would lead up to Silent Hills, had it not been shitcanned by Konami.

i remember playing SS2 back in 2001 i was 13

these things scared the piss out of me

What are you on about

Really? Nobody posted F.E.A.R series yet? Another proof most of /v is full of autists that never had a childhood

It's not scary, it's just gun porn.

>ywn play a scary game or watch a scary movie with the joost
>she will never get scared and grab your arm
Why live?

FEAR was great but not scary.

First game was good but didn't feel very scary.

The multiplayer was pretty fun.

I want to lick her crotch.

h-here you go user...

You have to remember, up until this point the game doesnt pull this kind of shit on you. You lose all control over the situation.

"If you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you."

youtu.be/tkYtflr1KsM

I relate to this image. Most nights I have nightmares about being hunted and murdered, then when I wake up I'm disappointed I'm still alive.

Cargo Deck is one of the scariest levels I've ever played through.

I sometimes have dreams I'm in a horror setting like Amnesia or Alien: Isolation and just accept death instead of trying to run or fight.

Closest was the first silent hill. Some parts of the other world made me anxious as fuck. Had to stop at some points to brace myself

some are uncomfortable to the point I just drop them. I get very immersed in games and the constant jumpscare games keep my Adrenalin going and its actually painful to play for too long. but I dont get like that anymore.

different strokes different folks
I never could finish F.E.A.R. not because it was scary. Opposite actually.
I had just finished silent hill and fatal frame and went into F.E.A.R. hoping to get the shit scared out of me, when the reality was a basic shooter with a few creepy parts stretched really thin throughout the game.
The contrast of scariness disappointed me

God tier scary is when you can fight back up to a certain point, and then your weapon is just a liability. I literally have had nightmares about this.
I can't think of any games that do this.

This game did scare the piss out of me.
>Concentrate concentrate, fuck these niggas.
Then the fucking Alma cunt pops up.

I didn't even get the zoom-in. It just froze when you opened the door and see her in the background. Made the scene ten times creepier then intended

The first Silent Hill still scares me to this day.

This motherfucker did on my first playthrough

Yes.

That actually was quite scary back as a kid. Also when the robber turns up in the middle of the night.

i just really can't deal with first person stuff.
Anything that is third person is fine, resident evil, silent hill, dead space, etc

now if the game is first person, you can bet your ass i am entering that dark corridor looking at the ground or backwards

I wanna know how Donkey Kong Country scared you.

Also, I know the opinion on it, but Dead Space spooked me. Probably because I saw a cutscene from Parasite Eve 2 as a kid and body horror's always given me the willies since.

Perseus Mandate was scarier than the base game
>Those abandoned subway tunnels filled with ghosts

Thief 1
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
System Shock 2

All the other games who like to call themselves "horror" are kinder shit compared to them.

>2 on pc and 3 never

I wonder if girls like Joosten know her gorgeous they are

Weirdly, the spectre cat and dog from the Scenes from a Marriage quest in Hearts of Stone. And the cat from Shale's DLC in DA:O.

Anyone know good (vampires + hunted castels) games that can give you nightmares? Vampires presence obligatory

>I wanna know how Donkey Kong Country scared you.
I remember it having some dark caves with all sorts of shit in them.

>Parasite Eve 2
Yes.

Fuck I still have nightmares about this and being chased around by nurses.

Hey, what's in that bathtub?

I stood motionless at the end of a hallway in Doom 3 that had all red lighting and you could hear breathing. I'm a pretty huge pussy when it comes to horror shit so I was rooted to the spot.

Yes

>Inhuman screaming intensifies

AoM was a lot scarier

>when the lights go out in the hospital
I didn't touch the game for 2 days

>F.E.A.R.
>talks about childhood
get the fuck out and never post here again Y2K born fagglet.

It's funny that I know what Xenomorphs look like, and have been parodied a hundred times...and they still scare the everloving shit out of me

STALKER gave me nightmares for a while. I think it took me several hours of slow creeping to get through Agroprom tunnels because i didn't dare use light or make noise, then off I went to Dark Valley next. After that place, nothing was scary in any game, ever. I remember being disappointed right there in Yantar, after clearing the surface and breaching the lab, when I found out it's a huge open space with a goofy giant brain in a jar, populated by highly visible enemies I've killed dozens off already.

bro 93 here

all pretty girls know that they are pretty, you don't have to tell them that - that's where their ego stroking comes from and most get full of themselves.

>The ammo clip at the end of a hallway that spawns a special monster behind you.

Just froze and let it kill me rather than turn around when it happened. Pretty fun game, especially the co-op.

Does Gab still has that vlog video up where she breaks up into tears because her viewers were appreciating Stephanie Joosten more?

Got scared by opening that one file in the alternate reality game with the screamer

also that fucking anglerfish

>dark caves
I always loved those levels, but I get that. DKC did a pretty good job of emulating real darkness when it wanted to.
I guess everyone has something that gets them. I remember getting unnerved in sonic adventure when I fell through a level and there was nothing but infinite ocean under it.

Mah fucking niggas.

I dont understand what people find in this game.
All I remember was running from one annoying enemy into another and a few jump scares. No interessting story or spooky settings.
I didnt finish the game because the combat sucked balls and took every bit of atmosphere. Hit, run 2 meters back, repeat for 20 minutes to save ammo.
Does it become better later on? Should I give it a secound try?

Which file?

I never understood why people considered Cry of Fear scary. I'm not particularly hard to scare, but this game was just bad and not scary at all.

nope

She's a model, what do you think?

I don't know man, she barely does anything but whore out on Twitch and asking people to pay her bills.

I wouldn't be surprised if she forced Joost in her videos again to get some more traffic and money.

>play Call of Pripyat
>Have history of pschizophrenia with auditory hallucinations
>walk into THAT cave
>"TURN BACK, STALKER."
>shut off monitor
>lie in bed for hours just staring at the ceiling

No other game has given me an experience that can compare to that one.

>Saying Cry of Fear is bad
>Posting DreadOut pic
Mah nigga.

I get scared easily. Probably by most decent horror games.

FEAR for the most part is pretty tame though. I can only think of like 3 moments that we actually unnerving

Every trip underground in the original stalker is like entering the NOPE zone.

God, fuck that entire section of the game. Hiding from Akers was stressful as shit.

Loved SOMA. I want more like it. It scratches so many of my itches: undersea bases, after-the-end scenario, the world feels grounded. Also spooky shit.

Well DreadOut isnt the best horror game ever, but at least it had some interessting stuff in it.
For an indie title it was pretty okay.

>Does it become better later on? Should I give it a secound try?
no, Afraid of Monsters is superior in every way. Cry of Fear was overhyped.

my first bloodcykaencounter in the original is forever etched in my brain.

When you know you can't fight back, you know you'll never be called upon to fight. You're safe for as long as you keep your wits about you and don't get yourself cornered or run straight into the enemy.

When you do have the opportunity to fight, you know you'll be called upon to use it and you might not be up to the task. I'm shit at video games, so nothing beats the feeling of dread I get when I actually find a weapon.

Resident Evil 2 scared me so badly that I cried and I haven't played a horror game since.

damn dude youre a pussy

I'm not sure about scared.

But Majora's Mask made me feel a very deepseeded sense of uneasiness.

...

...

She knows alright

>mfw

The original Afraid of Monsters was the only game to really scare me. I had a savegame in the hospital, staring into a dark hallway with little ammo and scarcely more health, that sat untouched for months.

Later on there's an underground sequence where you have to run through underground tunnels while monsters unpredictably break out of the walls around you, all the while to a soundtrack of tribal-esque war cries and drumming. I just couldn't take it; finally I saved the game after the soundtrack started and reloaded so that I wouldn't have to hear it.

It wouldn't surprise me. When they were playing MGSTPP, Gab was really upset that Step was checking herself out in the game and that it had much more viewers due of her. Even preventing her from doing it because apparently she got pretty jealous of it. What a money grabbing bitch

Cant remember, and it seems like the site doesnt work anymore

heh

damn she's got nice legs

I wouldn't say it scared me, but those invisible fucks could turn a thirty foot hallway into a thirty minute crawl.

Muv Luv Alternative made me squeamish.

i would let her do whatever she wanted to me

I played it years ago and found it extremely scary.
Last month I tried to replay it and didn't get scared at all. I quited after first boss.

Enemies starts to appear in groups so you don't have time to take them by melee. They actually are a serious threat and it becomes quite hard sometimes, though some may find it frustrating. Enemy desing is great and spooky as hell but in other categories it's mediocre.

Anyone here knows scary vampires only games? Please i asked earlier too

...

vampire masquerade

Outlast, Amnesia and Alien Isolation did. They are the trio of scary games. But they're only scary once, like a roller coaster. You pay your fee, you get on the ride, and you get off. It sucks, but they're fun.

I wish a horror game existed that had randomly generated spooks & objectives. Sadly it would be fucking shit, as all procedurally generated games are.

Dreadout had some great ideas but really fumbled the execution at some points. It was more frustrating than scary for me.

>No game about being trapped in a house with a vampire

the screams in this game are the most terrifying sounds i have heard in vidya

youtube.com/watch?v=ulaHAFeflvQ

2:10

Fuck you.

Doesn't SCP - Containment Breach fit this description somewhat? I haven't played it but I remember a Youtube video looking something like what you described.

She should get into porn, preferably gangbangs and deepthroat/facial abuse stuff.

Nosferatu, its on steam

Not really as scary without sound desu.

>manniquens that turn when you're not looking

i want that fucking ouija table

games not scary in the slightest. the monsters dont even hurt u. its just a corridor shooter

It was always about that split-second of faces anyway.

This game is full of spooks!

Son of a bitch, the worst part is that is my fault, didn't read it was a gif.

oh /pol... never change

yes the paino in mario 64 i wasn't expect that

>You will never be a cute girl

At least I can pretend in VR eventually

Who here watching riotgames now

Atmospheric? Yes. Scary? You're an undead predator with supernatural powers and an armory in your pocket. You're the most dangerous thing on most maps you enter. You kill half a dozen other vampires in the tutorial alone. That hotel is so scary the first time around because it makes you forget what you're playing as.

>You're an undead predator with supernatural powers and an armory in your pocket.
Not an argument.

I wonder if Death Stranding will be scary

...

>collar

Does this girl not have any nudes or like artistic modely nudes? i just want to see 1 nipple, even if its through her clothes ;_;

>no sad satan

youtube.com/watch?v=tJ6zHUyp_V8

Would you recommend it though?

That collar is literally some bdsm shit, looks like she is more slutty than the initial impression told us.

She's too pure for that. Only Kojimbo has roosted the joost

This was genuinely spooky until the author tried to give it a backstory and made it a shitty arg

how dafuq was that scary

god damn

nice blogpost fag

>meme games

>Horror creators overexplaining things
When will this meme die?

Obligatory: youtube.com/watch?v=zwGOWS2svas

Sometime after I started smoking weed it's been really difficult for me to feel angry or afraid. This is constant even when I don't smoke for months, and there are times where I feel like the appropriate response to shit that happens to me -should- be to get mad but I have to mentally coach myself into anger or it won't happen. I'm holding onto hope that a good enough VR horror game could fix the fear issue, though I haven't been able to even try VR yet.

Feels ok I guess. Sometimes I pretend to be angry when I post to fit in

This game was good, but I got scared rarely, and it was usually due to simple shit like the ghost hiding in that closet, the lady falling out of the ceiling while I'm watching a projector.

>50+ year old tiny dicked jap

Yeah no, she could literally have her pick of any male adonis, she is way out of his league

shit like this scares me

what ga me is it?

fuck that screamer and the opening of Resident Evil 2

About as close as you're gonna get

Are you retarded?

...

They don't call him Big Boss for nothing

Quiet Mountain Triple

sounds like a normal female desu

No, I've only been unnerved but never scared and it was mostly PS1-Gamecube era, especially Gamecube which have something almost uncanny about them

Yeah instead of 2 inches he's 3 inches!

Gonna need a source for a high quality version senpai

Big enough for Stefanie

...

what is this? a fear mod?

...

Got it from her instagram: stefaniejoosten

Half-Life 2 mod actually

stuff like this scares the shit out of me

...

amnesia is the gold standard for horror games

I'd let her joos my ten

Fucking this. People always jerk off how VTMB was ultra spooky, while the only actually horror part, the hotel, was as basic and bland as most HL2 horror mods.

Of course it is an argument you mongoloid. I made a stupid vampire brute character who destroyed everyone with his fist. I tried to roleplay, so after couple missions of being unstopable killing machine I went to that hotel ready to punch some weak ass human ghost and all the time during the mission I was wondering why my character hasn't killed anything yet

>Joost

Literally Felicia Day tier garbage.

Partially, the levels are randomly generated however every creature is always there. You'll always encounter the same SCPs every time you play.

Doesn't stop it from being horrifying though.

My god. I am in love. No seriously, no waifu shit, this girl is seriously what I love.

God damn. I want to kill myself because I'd never get something closer to her, at all.

pls go gab

...

if by horror games you mean shit-tier youtuber bait, then yeah I totally agree.

I wish Heather would call me papi

T-that no sweater...

Has the creator been arrested for CP yet?

3 inches in the Joost with another 10 to go.

>amensia
>meta critic 85
>user score 8.6
>95% on steam

you go

>phantom pain came out like a year ago
>people said we would forget about her in a month
>joostflu is still present

Yes, definitely. All the time, over the course of 20+ years. It mostly started with the PlayStation era Capcom and Konami bringing the first real scares into a three dimensional space.

There are always scary games. Play by yourself, preferably after dark - in the dark. You can easily burn out on them though.

Horror games are one of the best vidya genres, one of the only types that can illicit raw emotion out of you.

>scary
Is playing sounds on 0.2 speed a horror movie for you?

The things I'd do with her. I wish I was a somebody instead of a nobody.

she's truly the best daughterfu

He could be for all I know, I stopped following it a long time ago

...

I would take a bullet for her.

One of the scariest experiences was playing Primal Hunt when i was about 10, at 4AM while mother was sleeping next door. I just wanted to shoot some aliens and got a fucking brickhouse instead.

From recent ones - SOMA managed to balance subtleness and scary monsters really damn well, Frictional don't disappoint.

people like you are the reason the horror game genre is dead

...

Is it game's fault that it does shit good and is well suited for youtube attentionwhoring?

She's super sexy

I like Amnesia alot, but I still think the gold standard is Silent Hill 2

...

AvP2. SOMA came close but I stopped caring after I realized all of the monsters teleport.

I can never understand how people get legitimately scared by games or movies. You know it's not real life, right? That you're not the one in the game?

When I play a horror game, at the absolute most I'm nervous about getting startled by a jump scare but that's not the same as being scared. I just don't get it.

Explain it to me, Cred Forums. How do games actually scare you? How do you get scared knowing you can just turn off the console?

This video i found on her "symbolism" was really good.

Also this docu is really good as well, i wish games were made to this wizadry still...

youtu.be/PsHa7pR9nVY

youtu.be/7f6EWqCscyc

theres a fan patch that fixes most if not all of the game breaking shit

The Suffering, when I was a kid. We played it with a friend and were both scared shitless.

>You know it's not real life, right?
It's suspend of disbelief, a conscious choice to raise any horror game/movie to a whole new level.

That depends on the gunplay itself. STALKER uses a lot of "Hunter vs Beast"-kind of scenario, where the fight is over in a split second. Thats essentially how you can make gunfighting scary in a horror game. Everything dies fast, including you, monsters lurk in the dark wilderness, looking for a good angle to ambush you, while you have an incredibly powerful but slow to reload gun, so all shots count.

>DONG DING
this shouldn't bother me.

how new are you

True. F.E.A.R 1 represented the end of their best series.

/x/ here, games are kiddy shit, head on over to our board and we'll show you spooky shit

>tfw remembering where this pic came from

that was a good day

>he will never HEAVEN'S DIVIDE you

Fuck I want to play this game. It crashes once I get into the basement at the beginning.

God DAMN this is a good, scary series. Good pick bud

>Implying she'd want to do anything to you

...

I have phobias. Body horror spooks me good, so I play games with body horror.

Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 (they were my first "rated M" games), Dead Space 1 and 2, Silent Hill 1, Haunting Ground, Fatal Frame, Metroid Prime 1 and 2 (Sheegoths, Chozo Ghosts, Grenchlers, and Dark Aether at night), and Zelda OoT, Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker (the ReDeads).

Interesting that my captcha had "Harry" as one of the words.

maybe one thing

Yes absolutely. I'm scared shitless by jumpscares. But it's not really the feeling I'm chasing when I'm playing a game or watching a movie, you know? It's akin to somebody jumping you in the middle of the night and going aboogabooga.

Args are still games

I'd be ok with that

The story was Deviantart tier but it has its moments. That part where you're used to just loading on the other side of doors but eventually they start breaking down with the monster behind them. The one and only part where a monster will actually climb into the fucking vent. But the one that truly got to me was that one apartment floor that had no music or enemies and you had to backtrack through there later and still nothing. Not sure if that shit was even intentional but it still made me tense as fuck.

I'd pay money for that

...

...

Just P.T.

Holy fucking shit, when Lisa jumped me.

Been playing horror games ever since I was 10 years old and played through the first Silent Hill. Nowadays I'm like an old heroin addict who desperately seeks for another shot. Latest game I played, it was a bit of a hit and miss but still ok purchase. Lots of ghost/monster waifus in Dreadout games if you're into that kind of stuff.

>playing Bioshock 1
>get to the freezer section where Splicers are hidden among the frozen bodies
>turn invisible so I can get the drop on the hidden splicers
>as I'm walking through the freezers, my character freezes in place
>screen gets icy
>hear a raspy voice say "I CAN SEE YOUR BREATH"

...

Afraid Of Monsters: Director´s Cut was an endless NOPE-coaster of all time.

If you want actually spooky games with also great stories and overall quality, play the Silent Hill games. You can get 1-4, the only games that you need to worry about, for the PC. Follow this guide to get them run and look nice, and get them from these DL links:

SH1 NTSC DDL:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" is a all-in-one fix, that works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW fix mentioned in the guide, you can use the sh2proxy's EXE as the no-cd crack!

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

SH2-4 do not support Xinput gamepads. Either use Xpadder, a DirectInput pad, or just play with KB+M.

tfw they weren't bodies.

here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.

The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.

alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.

You could also try the new PGXP emulator, that adds Perspective Correction to PS1 textures.

you may not believe it, but I started the SOMA arg here on Cred Forums and we did a great job of solving it

I think the scariest part of this game was the Replica AI.
>Can't into enemy AI
>Make an AI to run the enemy AIs on the fly
>Enemies are now uniquely intelligent and adapt to the player dynamically
Has any other game done this?

That wasn't very nice.

I do want to know how that works though. Do you put a bit of invalid data at the end of the file or something?

Left 4 Dead's Director kinda does that in a sideways sort of manner.

Heres a recommendation about one forgotten horror game. Playing through the first Penumbra is somewhat recommended but its not entirely necessary if you cant stomach the fact it plays like a clunky prototype.

Second Penumbra is arguably scarier than their other game Amnesia. Dont bother with the third, thats a puzzle game instead of a horror game.

>Penumbra´s now considered "forgotten"
what a weird, sad world we live in...

But yeah, all Penumbras > Amnesia / SOMA.
I also would say that the 1st game is very playable, and does make the 2nd chapter even more freaky in many ways.

That game wasn't scary, there were a few jumpscares that startled me, but on the whole it was 95% just shooting people in the face.

Why can't Stefanie Joosten be real?

Because the weight of your sins is too great to ignore.

pls no :(

I really liked the second Penumbra because, unlike Amnesia, you actually had the choice of fighting the enemies, but the odds of you winning were very low, and even if you could kill them, they'd come back later. That made it even scarier than Amnesia IMO, where you couldn't fight the enemies at all.

Not this time motherfucker what exactly does this do?

I'm Playing this right now, it's full of shitty camera angles where you can't see anything until it's within arms reach of attacking you. Still it's way better than I thought it would be.

I played co-op when it was first released , was okay. I recall it relying on jump scares too much.

TES4 Oblivion.... I was in a dungeon and a ghost thing was breathing really loud, louder than any other sound, it sounded wrong. Like the game wasn't supposed to do that. Turns out it was right in front of me, glitched out not attacking me, so close, too close that I was looking right through it's transparency. I felt anxiety and a little panic trying to understand what was happening, wanting to back away from my monitor turn off my speakers and leave.

I laughed after I understood what happened and saw how stupid the AI was. However, in the back of my mind I thought that perhaps the AI was just playing dumb to catch me off guard.

There's been a few games that have literally made me gasp from a shock. The first Amnesia game is the first one that comes to mind.

But that's still pretty jump scare tier.

I played Siren Blood Curse a little bit awhile ago and thought it was pretty interesting.
Is it a sequel to the original or is it a remake or something?

The original starcraft brood war, it un-nerve me (?) and silent hill 4 with those double headed baby gigants things

Remake

Dead Space 1 scared the fuck out of me. Headphones on, volume up, and all lights turned off. They did such an outstanding job building your suspense, thinking the scare was over, calming you down, then just as you let your guard clan something else scares the fuck out of you.

Blood Curse is a re-imagining of Forbidden Siren 1 for the PS2, in that it has similar plot events happen, but it shifts the protagonists around and streamlines the game for modern audiences.
Forbidden Siren 2 was never released in North America (for some dumb fucking reason) but it was released in Europe etc.

What is a legitimately good horror game, that doesn't have jumpscares?

I admit, i am a fucking pussy when it comes to them, but they only just get me feeling angry and betrayed after.

Then i just start to worry constantly about whether something will just be another jumpscare or not, and then I care less about the game and the actual scary parts, and more about the jumpscare. Really really ruins games for me.

The only one i have bared with is F.E.A.R because I'm kind of turned on by the girl now since i get to fuck her in the third one. All i can think about when I see her.

Part body horror, part uncanney valley. Our brains have exceptionally developed skills on recognizing body language and faces, part of our social skills. The second expansion did.

Pic related? 3D Body Adventure. I remember that back in the day.

It's a really good game, too bad you have to play it twice. With an escort. And a pursuer.
A pursuer with unlimited ammo, who laughs at you.

I don't recognize this ghost. Is this from Keepers of the Dark?

Naw keep it a horror game

for your enemies

Good answer

F.E.A.R. 2 and the first Dead Space scared the shit out of me when I first played them.

Plenty of games. I have been playing games and reading comics and the whatnot since I was a kid, so I have a very vivid imagination. Play games in a dark, cold, quiet room and things that don't seem scary becoming very chilling. It's not this modern super-gore/jump scare shit, but games with more atmosphere. I think the last time I was really 2scared2play was a couple months back when I was playing Thief in the middle of the night in dead silence. Going through the asylum was creepy as fuck.

The first quarter of this game, up to the truck chase is goat--everything else beyond that is boring and broken...

Anyone hype for the remake?

...

I WANT TO FUCK THAT THING TO DEATH

>checks downloads
wat is this

there was no reason for this house to be as unsettling as it was.

That was the perfect screamer. They don't use that method for the rest of the game but it still had me on edge every time I examined something. The tactic is a bit cheap but it works. And they didn't overload the game with jumpscares so I never got annoyed.

Is STALKER still worth trying after all this time? Man I need a new scary game. I'm sure there's good spooks to experience out there still.. Last thing I played was SOMA.

yes

>Was just about to click it to close when the jump scare happened

Well you got me to jerk back and quietly go OH GOD

but really, this does have some spoopy urban legends surrounding it.

yes. For your first time:
>start with Shadow of Chernobyl, then Clear Sky, then Call of Pripyat
>don't play with mods that do stuff other than bug fixes
>okay in Master difficulty
>stick with it, a lot of people give up on the first mission but that's only because you only have a shitty pistol, once you complete it you get at least 1 sawed off that you should keep and you can sell the rest of the bandit's gear for ammo and save up for better guns
>you can beat enemies with superior gear if you have a better position, this can net you better gear like with the soldiers guarding the train pass.

He's right though. How do you even get scared by something in a videogame other than a jump scare? How does the thought that it's only a game and can't really do shit to you not override?

Alright, thanks for the tips! Will try Master

Blood Curse was made by the devs under the pretence of it being an 'American sequel', the same way the Ring and Grudge movies were remade for Western audiences. Essentially, it's the same basic plot as the first Siren game, but with white folks and some more prominent time travel/loop shenanigans. Still a good game, though. Actually improves in some ways over the frustrating gameplay of the original/s, but loses some atmosphere in the process.

doing gods work user

Play Silent Hill, dude.

Saw it coming as soon as I saw the compressed-to-hell gray in the last panel TBQH

werewolves

Playing on Master is incredibly important, originally the developers only wanted one difficulty, but their publisher told them to make easier ones. The original default difficulty became Master, and to create the other ones they just
>lowered the damage both you and enemies do, making enemies bullet sponges
>increased the spread for both you and enemies
>added RNG that will literally cause some of your bullets to just disappear, on novice ~60% of your shots on Novice just disappear
Thus every engagement is drawn out and boring where you'll shoot magazine after magazine into someone and will just take it like a champ, and good luck hitting anything at long range because it'll already be harder to hit shit with the increased spread and now bullets that would have hit have a chance to vanish.

If you want any tips, head over to the Stalker general. They also have a guide for modding and the people there are usually willing to help a new STALKER out.

I feel like it's some infantile part of our brains recognising the 'adult' factor in tall things, as a representation of something larger, unknowable entity that has control over you.

The fact that most of these tall creatures/characters are traditionally creepy in appearance perverts the natural inclination of trust. Like a betrayal of instinct.

Almost this exact same post keeps getting made over the years. I'm convinced this is some sort of meme I'm just not in on.

No he hasn't. He did try to make other games in the past with the 'they send it to me from the deep web SPOOKY!" but it was harmless.

I would say Alone in the dark series.

Not only they were great in the horror part, but their puzzles and story are great. And even though I'm a gigantic pussy that got scared by shit like MDK, Alone in the dark 3 is one of my favorite games ever

I turned around and the face took up my entire screen.

This game got less scary once I ended up with a lot of guns but I liked it a lot. The low budget of the game made it feel like found footage in a way. Something you'd find on a blank CD at a garage sale.

Fucking spooked me so bad I didn't touch the game again for over a week.

Similar thing happened to me in Bioshock 2.
Finished one of the little sister harvesting missions, bent down to pick her up, game froze with her creepy smile filling the screen and a weird piano theme repeating on a 1 second loop.

>Trigger drumstick monster in the basement
>jump up broken stairs where it can't reach me

Here is a good article about the AI in FEAR, be warned though, it will spoil some of the magic for you

Blair Witch Project, but I was a kid.

The AI in this game was so dumb it completely broke the immersion. The encounters were more annoying and unnecessary than spooky.

I had several monsters come stand next to me, then they stood there staring at the wall for a couple of minutes before leaving. Half of the encounters were like that. The rest were like dealing with a really dumb co-worker, trying to fix shit while keeping him from fucking it up again.

And when you get caught? They just bump into you or stand before you and scream. I got caught by a sea monster of some kind. It grabbed me and dropped me without doing any damage and that shit happened four times before I realized what I was doing wrong.
