I just finished 2 for the first time.

Wow. That was one of the most substantial, complete, and satisfying games I've ever played. It's in my top games of all time alongside Deus Ex. It's that fantastic.

A well-written story, with some great twists.

Production values are great, especially the voice acting and cutscenes.

Soundtrack is fantastic and fits it well. The final boss theme was intense and appropriate. Very memorable theme.

Gameplay is a huge step up from 1. It feels great to fight groups of enemies. Kaoru wasn't even a hindrance when fighting with her, which was surprising. I actually liked it when we fought together.

This is a hugely underrated gem. Thanks a lot guys.

Onward to 3 after a break, but from you guys say, I shouldn't expect too much in terms of story. Still excited.

3 holds up in boss fights and the sound track, dont expect hostesses though. I actually prefer it iver 4 because I feel kiryu's segment in that game is too small.

Do yourself a favor and seek Komaki as soon as possible when you return to Kamurocho, he only appears after you do a hobo sidequest, i went through my first playthrough without meeting him and it was hell! The enemies in 3 blocks so much to the point of annoyance so you really want that Tiger Drop and Komaki Parry on your arsenal

I'm pretty sure they've said that there is pretty much no chance because of how much Japanese history is in Ishin, and how it would be too much work. Seeing as how we never got Kenzan, I really wouldn't get my hopes up about Ishin. Playing it with the khhsubs guide is probably the best experience you're going to get outside of knowing moon.

Yeah, I've given up on that /vj/ thing ever happening. There would be too many arguments about whether games like Dark Souls or MGS belong on it and it would be full of shitposters from the Western board fagging things up. We all know Hiro has pretty much given up on ever improving this place. I think we'll just have to stick to Cred Forums for the time being, or maybe get someone to write a convincing argument to the /jp/ janitor of why Yakuza threads belong on there.

Yakuza threads are one of the last threads why I keep coming here. If these threads get invaded by shitposters (if it releases on PC) then I dunno if I'll ever visit this place again. Cred Forums was my main board for years (one of the biggest mistakes I've made) but I've seriously had enough of console wars, shitposting, how everyone hates or is tired of vidya and other shit like that. I've been visiting other boards for the past year or so and compared to Cred Forums they seem so much better even if they keep saying those boards are shit too.

For someone who has played 1 & 2 HD, what guides have you used for 100% as an English speaker? Most of the stuff I'm seeing is basically just to use the PS2 guides and hope for the best. Is there nothing on the level of KHHsubs or is it basically just GameFAQs guides while watching cutscenes on Youtube alongside it?

1 and 2 are on the PS2, it's recommended to just emulate them since they're a pain in the ass to get at a reasonable price. Keep in mind that 1 has no undub, though 2 onward are all Japanese. There was an HD remake for both the PS3 and Wii U but they're Japanese only so you'd basically be stuck using some sort of guide to actually play them.
3 through 5 are on the PS3, 5 is digital only and I believe 3 was physical only.
0 is coming out soon on the PS4.

The rest are side games and a remake of 1, though only Dead Souls was localized out of this entire lot. You can play Isshin, Kenzan, and Kiwami with guides though so it's not the biggest deal.

How long until the announcement?

I'm not going to get my hopes up, it's not going to be 1+2 HD collection, it won't happen, it will just be a wallpaper or dlc, don't over hype this.

The fighting is basically a 3D beat 'em up . I guess you can kind of compare it to Shenmue's fighting, but it's really not as clunky as that. It's kinda clunky in 1 but gets better as it goes along. Fights basically happen randomly as you're wandering due to thugs or during certain missions and it sticks you into an arena to fight the guys. Sadly most of the webms I have are basically of just the special attacks.

Outside of that you get to wander around huge areas, do a bunch of side quests, do just random small things here and there, it's really fun.

Goddamn, Majima looks fun as fuck. It's going to suck whenever I have to switch to Kiryu, especially since I've already played Kiwami and have already used his styles from that game.

Playing through the series for the first time, currently early on in 1 (about 5 hours I think). Playing it alongside Persona 3 in preparation for 5.

It's a pretty fun game so far. Purgatory was a really cool change of pace aesthetically. Suddenly this weird extravagant underground. Haven't really been dicking around with side content though, even though I think there isn't much available yet. I know the games are kind of known for having a shit load of things to do in them, but I don't know how much of that kind of content is actually available in 1. Still haven't noticed any gambling/card game like component. Seems like a fighting arena may have just opened up.

This may be a really disgusting advice for the fans of the first game, but i'd suggest you rush the story in the first game so you can get to the second one soon, not only is it a lot more satisfying game to play, it also has a lot more side content

Disappointing announcement or not, that was a great cutscene. I really love the feel that they're going for with 0, it's looking like it might one of the more stylish Yakuza games. I'm starting to get some hope that the current writers might actually deliver a good story this time.

The game's not filled to the brim with references to the other games. Obviously characters still show up but it's not filled with 4th wall breaking shit like MGSV, so it's a valid place to start. Especially if they announce kiwami at psexperience.

That's really fucking tough. I love the Japanese voice acting and I couldn't imagine the characters without their original voices, but at the same time, I wish this series was more successful.

I guess I'd pick 2 and import every game a few months before each western release (which I would also buy). Then again, if all the games had been dubbed, I probably wouldn't even know what the characters sounded like in Japanese, so maybe I wouldn't even care.
