posting this thread a million times wont alter history so devs stop favoring consoles
Still looks spectacular. Also activate 16x AF for fucks sake, you're on a PC, not PS4.
>HURDUR MUH AF
And your life kid.
>still looks spectacular
But not your life kid.
This samefag is so obvious it hurts.
>It hurts
Just like your life kiddo
>he doesnt run AF
why?
What? What's wrong with AF?
Cryengine 2 can't properly utilize more than one CPU core and this prevents it from breaking 60-70fps even on high end modern systems. Cryengine 3 doesn't have this limitation.
Actual specs are very low in terms of polycount, shader complexity, number of unique assets, texture resolution (Save for near LOD) and textures per scene. Crysis 2 beats it in every regard when it comes to scene complexity despite being decried as being "Dumbed down graphically" because obviously if you're retarded a smaller playing space is going to = lower complexity scene in your mind every single time, even if that big playing space is just a heightmap terrain with a shack and some bushes on it.
Cryengine 2 is a literal one-trick foliage pony, the engine does alpha textures very quickly so it leans on this as heavily as it can to make scenes look full of detail. Cryengine 3 is capable of the same and much more, but gets shit on purely for being able to create console builds.
Crysis was a one-time thing not because developers went on to "favor consoles", but because the methods it used to look graphically impressive only apply to games that take place in the exact sort of environment that it does. Heightmapped terrain and a load of instanced foliage is quick to render, a city with upwards of 200 different unique assets and textures per scene takes considerably longer. Games don't follow the graphical philosophy of Crysis because developers have decided that making varied environments is better than instancing a single tree model 300 times and giving that one tree model a really high resolution texture. In reality, graphical technology has still been steadily improving since Crysis.
...
>No AF
What is with you people jesus christ.
Vanilla Crysis 1
AF won't unfuck the interior texture resolution, lighting and fact that the only way to stop the foliage from aliasing to fuck is to either blur the whole image with FXAA (That didn't exist until several years after Crysis was released) or downsample until the game hits 20fps because it can't utilize technology that was already in CPUs when it released.
It's a pretty cool game
>interior texture resolution, lighting and fact that the only way to stop the foliage from aliasing to fuck is to either blur the whole image with FXAA (That didn't exist until several years after Crysis was released) or downsample until the game hits 20fps because it can't utilize technology that was already in CPUs when it released.
Dude I don't care about this GRAFIX thread I just think it's disgusting that you took screenshots without AF enabled. Crysis is a good game, etc. just enable AF.
is that really completely vanilla? ive played the game and it is beautiful but i never found it as colorful as this shot.
It's vanilla, just using freecam and supersampling.
>Crysis is a good game
For what, fucking with the AI? It's boring a shit if you play it intuitively without following that Brit guy's "How to fuck with the broken AI" tutorial.
Right, sure. When another game comes out that allows me the same freedom of movement as Crysis in an open environment to pretend to be the predator, hit me up baby.
...
maybe that freerunning zombie game, or far cry 3/4 or maybe homefront revolution
never played these 4 games btw. just from looking at them. they have a crysis feel.
also mgs v which i have played. kinda has somewhat similar sandbox gameplay
this is a unmodded oblivion from 2006
does Farcry 3 even look better than this game? what the fuck happened bros.
AF has such a low performance impact and such a high visual impact that it is completely retarded to run anything less than 16xAF for everything.
Far Cry 3/4 has that open-world shit going on. Homefront Revolution I'll look into.
what PS2 game is this
>PCucks still shilling a nearly 10 year old shit game because that´s verything they´ve got
Pathetic.
I feel the same way about half life 2. Cred Forums loves it but I think it's an over rated piece of shit. Gravity gun was a fucking gimmick, alyx vance was babby's first waifu, and the game felt so fucking shallow compared to it's predecessors.
crysis was fun. It was like an interactive Michael Bay movie
Or you are deliberately sabotaging screenshots to try to somehow reinforce your non-point.
Nice try, OP, but Crysis was released November 13, 2007, so that's not even 9 years yet
What is the game that had the second-best graphics of 2007?
So, literally every open world game since, then? You can kill someone by taking a cargo truck and doing a sick flip off a ramp and decoupling its trailer in GTAV if killing enemies in flashy ways that the game neither makes necessary or encourages doing is your thing.
Here's a quick list of games released since that let you use the physics system to kill shit:
GTA4/stories/5
Far Cry 2, 3, 4
Saints Row 2, 3, 4, is there a fifth now?
Watch_Dogs
Just Cause 2, 3
Red Faction: Guerilla, Armageddon
There's a reason that's all stuff that people resort to once they get bored of the main game, though, and being the entire appeal of Crysis pretty much indicates how shitty it is. If you don't try to squeeze every drop of fun out of the physics system then you're stuck with a game that has giant, empty maps with boring "Realistic" level design, AI that sits in the nice space between retarded and having a GPS lock on the player the moment it gets alerted and weapons that mostly only have stat differences to eachother.
Nobody's addressed any of the stuff I said in the post accompanying the screenshot, my so-called "Non-point" still stands: Visually, Crysis is a one-trick pony and, when using objective metrics, graphical specifications in games have still been on a steady rise since it was released. The idea that technology in gaming "Hit its peak" with Crysis is retarded.
>GTA4/stories/5
>Far Cry 2, 3, 4
>Saints Row 2
>Watch_Dogs
>Just Cause 2, 3
>Red Faction: Guerilla, Armageddon
>that allows me the same freedom of movement as Crysis in an open environment
Thanks anyway. And I can't stand open world games. Filled with so much filler shit it's ridiculous.
who cares about the grafix
why did the crysis movement/attacking system not get more copycats
Being able to strength jump up onto a roof, speed jump across and activate all in like half a second was fucking great
youtube.com
activate stealth*
Thinking that the "Movement system" alone redeems the game is pretty much missing the forest for the trees, which seems to be a trend with Crysisfags if the responses in this thread are anything to go by. Maybe your brain's just wired differently.
>unmodded
nice try
please, this is a screenshot taken in 2006 when there were few mods silly
>Thinking that the "Movement system" alone redeems the game is pretty much missing the forest for the trees
Not alone. In conjunction with the open environment, but not open world, levels of Crysis. I really don't understand how you're getting confused here. I'm really confused as to why you brought up the fucking GTA series of all things. I can't grab a pedestrian in GTAIV and throw them into a helicopter or off a mountain. C'mon man. Ditto for SR2, Watch_Dogs. Haven't tried Red Faction: Guerilla or Armageddon so I'll take a gander. Just Cause 2 is an open world game and those are just boring to me, my man.
I am pretty sure I enjoyed all of these games of the ones I played less than Crysis, except GTA4 only because of the campaign maybe and Saint's Row only because of coop. Crysis just felt a lot better to play than all of them in terms of gameplay, especially Far Cry 2, holy fuck, what a piece of shit.

Tell that to the PS4 fanboys.
good post senpai
This guy is correct, the amount of unique assets at any given time in Crysis 1 is very low, much lower than any scene in Crysis 2 or 3.
In terms of graphics it does look good but it isn't the super impressive monster Cred Forums makes it out to be.
>crysis is a good game
Hi r/gaming
Crysis has too much raw gameplay for the common Cred Forums plebe, they cheese through the game and then wonder what all the hype is about
>I don't care about graphics in a VISUAL medium
>not using any grass/parallax mods
one job
There's a billion other things you can do to a pedestrian in GTAV so I'm not sure why you're singling out grabbing and throwing them. Crysis is just a boring game where, as an incidental result of the systems the player can use to interact with the world, you can do flashy shit with physics objects.
It's boring for precisely the same reason Just Cause 2 is boring: At the end of the day you're just blowing up shit just because you can. The combat isn't fun or demanding by itself, the hardest AI is easy to abuse and the most optimal way to play the game is to just walk through it toggling stealth so that their targeting code glitches out. Unless you're trying to force yourself to have fun the hardest you possibly can, you get a boring tacticool shooter with bland levels.
Worse yet, Just Cause actually encourages fucking with the physics through the mayhem system where in Crysis you're doing it just because you saw a video about it on youtube. The game gives you no reason to experiment with the systems by itself and, if you don't know that stealth fucks up the AI detection code, actively discourages being flashy since unless you're toggling stealth to lose target all the time they'll kill you really quickly at Delta difficulty if you come out of cover with anything but the armor setting, because of the way the AI has a GPS lock on you otherwise.
Jesus, that The Order 1886 filter.
unmodded Crysis 2
>There's a billion other things you can do to a pedestrian in GTAV
And you cannot do them with the same fluidity of movement as Crysis. You clearly don't know what this is about man. Watch this video:
youtube.com
Skip to 1:24 if it doesn't for you. If you still don't understand what it's all about when it comes to Crysis and Crysis: Warhead after watching that video, then we've got nothing else to talk about. And that's okay, believe it or not.
With dude weed lmao lens dirt texture that I made myself.
>Zhe considers this average as fuck game a quality experience.
>in Crysis you're doing it just because you saw a video about it on youtube
Hold on I didn't even read your paragraph until now, this caught my eye. Why would you assume I'm incapable of making my own fun? Because the game isn't telling me to? Where does this attitude stem from?
>Just Cause actually encourages fucking with the physics through the mayhem system where in Crysis you're doing it just because you saw a video about it on youtube.
This sentence about sums up the difference in mindset we're having.
I don't need big numbers on my screen to figure out that using physics is fun
I don't need a youtube video to play the game and find out that it's fun
Crysis has provided a kind of enjoyment I haven't found in that form in any other game, and I've played most of the open world shootans and GTAs and whatever.
You literally have to cheese in order to use the playstyle Cry Hard popularized. Cheesing is 99% of that guy's playstyle, in the video where he explains how he plays he drops the biggest cheese in the entire game in the first minute.
I've seen the Cry Harder series and I've played it like this, since I bought it at release in 2007 for 60 fucking dollars I wanted to try to make up that value at some point. Thing is, I could just go play CPMA or any amount of Quake custom maps and get extreme, fluid movement with an actual challenge attached to it, so I'm not really drawn to a korean retard bullying game that is devoid of any challenge.
Because literally nobody played the game like that until those videos showed up, and the gameplay was universally shit on for the first 3 years or so of release? Did you miss the part where an AI exploit is the central part of this playstyle? Nobody played like this intuitively, because you're actively punished for trying to do it without knowing about an exploit.
Yes, but it's the good kind of cheese, not the boring kind that leaves people wondering why others have so much fun with the game
Also why the fuck does everyone who's criticizing keep bringing up that youtube guy. I've been playing crysis long before he made his videos, and I had just as much fun back then. Using all your suit skills and weapons to kill enemies creatively isn't exactly something he invented
>get extreme, fluid movement with an actual challenge attached to it, so I'm not really drawn to a korean retard bullying game that is devoid of any challenge.
Why do you assume it's extreme movement? And there you go, your mindset is elsewhere when it comes to Crysis. Enjoy QIII. Q1 is amazing by the way.
>Because literally nobody played the game like that until those videos showed up
Anecdotal evidence to anecdotal evidence, I spent countless hours in the Crysis Pre-Release Demo fucking around like Cry did because the game let me. Did it encourage? Nope. It let me nonetheless.
What this guy said.
DUDE
looks like uncharted 4
Crysis is literally a shitty looking game hiding under a fuckton of foliage
Was it impressive for its time? Obviously. But any child who genuinely believes that it matches up to modern games is a fucking retard
>Also why the fuck does everyone who's criticizing keep bringing up that youtube guy
Because it's a fucking meme at this point. Cry Harder was the go-to "Waa waa, consoles ruined Crysis 2 so bad!!" shitpost, and prior to that almost everyone on Cred Forums had a negative opinion of the game that - coincidentally, I'm sure - took an complete 180 right after the Crysis 2 post-release shitpost fest of 2011.
>and prior to that almost everyone on Cred Forums had a negative opinion of the game tha
That sounds like some nice revisionism to me
There was always the meme that the game is just a techdemo, but there's also always bveen people who told the others that they're full of shit and couldn't spot good gameplay if it rammed them in the ass
we wuz eyecancer mods n shit
>and prior to that almost everyone on Cred Forums had a negative opinion of the game tha
So first you assume nobody in the world played with the physics of Crysis until those Cry videos. Now you're assuming a whoe bunch of other shit. Why are you still talking at this point?
>foliage
haha nice one
Volumetric clouds
Physically rendered particles/smoke
Working wind system that affects everything with physics(most flora, particles, objects, npcs)
Dynamic day and night cycle
Interactive and destructible environment
Real-time soft shadows
Great first and third person character animations
Nice water with underwater caustics and godrays
Sharks, turtles, and chickens
CG quality, fully customizable motion blur
The only argument against Crysis is "tech demo shit" straight from the console babies mouth.
It's a good game and an amazing feat of fidelity.
dayum
...
Yeah well, and that the game kinda tanks after you fight mostly aliens
I generally stop after the zero g ship
>Wanted to play Oblivion again
>Modded it similar to this
>Runs like butt because only uses limited ram and cores
FUCK
Meanwhile current gen games require double/ triple the specs and still looked like shit.
Read, nigga. >No, I'm not being revisionist, YOU'RE being revisionist!
The fact that the only thing keeping your thread alive is this little debate we're having should say a lot. This'll drop off the page if I stop responding, which I'm about to, because I've got shit to do. Fuck the haters, the sign of a great game is that the only discussion you can have about it is trying to prove it isn't shit.
unmodded Half-Life 2 from 2004
Good job ignoring the bulk of what people have been telling you. Go do your shit, baby cakes.
Well user, i know that I've been in countless threads where parroting people have been ranting about it being a techdemo since the game came out, and I also know that there were quite a lot of people who shared my sentiment that the game actually has great gameplay and that Cred Forums has shit taste Feel free to not believe me if that tickles your fancy
I mean, your rationale is "I LIKE fucking with the AI and physics so that means all the people who dislike the game are just wrong and I'm going to act like it's the height of gameplay!"? There isn't much to respond to. It's opinion vs. opinion, so we're just shitposting at eachother now.
Real talk though: I'm being hyperbolic as fuck about everything aside from the argument against Crysis being the technological peak of gaming. I don't get the appeal of the "Mess with the AI" playstyle majorly because most design decisions don't really favor it (Spread out maps, most of the AI mechanics, level design majorly being laid out for an entirely different playstyle see: Fucking chest-high walls in every high enemy count combat zone) and I don't see how you can champion that cause but at the same time go "Oh, but doing a similar thing in (other game) is boring because I said so" while if some hypothetical Just Cause 2 superfan strolled in and championed their game they'd have just as much of a case for that game being "Fun to parachute around and blow shit up in and Cred Forums just has shit taste" as you do when it comes to Crysis, but you can enjoy it. Whatever.
Found the buttblasted Sonygger
>so that means all the people who dislike the game are just wrong
Right. So you haven't been reading: >And that's okay, believe it or not.
> And there you go, your mindset is elsewhere when it comes to Crysis. Enjoy QIII. Q1 is amazing by the way.
My above posts seem like shitposting to you?
> Fucking chest-high walls in every high enemy count combat zone
That is blatantly untrue for Crysis 1.
>"Oh, but doing a similar thing in (other game) is boring because I said so"
I didn't say that. I said GTA games don't have the same movement as Crysis. Then you want to the COMPLETE OPPOSITE EXTREME with Quake III for SOME REASON. Guess we're good now.
Far Cry 3/4...
Crysis 3...
This. For every post calling it a tech demo, likely never having played the game, there was a post saying the gameplay was great.
I have been reading.
>my sentiment that the game actually has great gameplay and that Cred Forums has shit taste
>they're full of shit and couldn't spot good gameplay if it rammed them in the ass
>Crysis has too much raw gameplay for the common Cred Forums plebe
>Shit taste my friend
>That is blatantly untrue for Crysis 1.
If you want to be super duper pedantic about it, let's call it "Cover". Every combat zone has a load of it placed intentionally aside from the patrols or 3-4 dude outposts everywhere that you can sneak up on.
>Then you want to the COMPLETE OPPOSITE EXTREME with Quake III
I went with Quake/3 because it's got a completely incidental set of mechanics like Crysis does, with the exception that they mesh with the game and don't make it any less challenging where Crysis is easy as fuck no matter what because it's designed to be a military shooter, and adding semi-competent aim and movement to the mix makes it so easy that the enemies may as well just be non-hostile target dummies.
That first set of greentext wasn't me, but I've certainly read more than once in my time, especially on Cred Forums:
>Crysis is boring. You just go into stealth, hide, pop out to shoot a guy, go back into stealth
>What? You can throw the Koreans?
> Every combat zone has a load of it placed intentionally aside from the patrols or 3-4 dude outposts everywhere that you can sneak up on.
An outpost has fences, this surprises you? It's organic and makes sense. In fact in the first level the "walls" that surround certain outposts are well over head high, subtly encouraging the player to leap over them with strength mode.
I understand your position, in fact I understood it from when you first brought up Quake III. Crysis isn't inherently challenging, no. But it's sure fun as fuck to mess around with. But you're not looking for that, and that's okay.
Those greentexts are all from me. You could call me bitter from being in too many threads where the game is dismissed with poor arguments, like 'it's pretty but doesn't have any gameplay' to 'you just cheese the game by stealth-archering everything, where's the fun with that' to 'you only started liking it after those Nano Ninja vides were made'.
Of course the game has flaws. The AI, while not bad, obviously can't stack up to the relentless rapemachine that you are, and alien levels are downright boring to most people.
That does not diminish the great parts of the game, how it gives you a cool set of tools and tells you to go to town however you want to against poor koreans, with a well-done physics system complementing it without being in your face about it. It's executed really well, due to the fluidity of all the movements you can really chain together many actions without it coming across as forced synergy. And while it's fair that not everyone will like that kind of gameplay, since that's opinions, Crysis doesn't deserve the way it's dismissed by many people.
Crysis has really fun sandbox fps gameplay. Dunno why all these tryhards are sperging about it.
Is it just me or does that soldier's textures/art direction make him seem very out of place?
>why did the crysis movement/attacking system not get more copycats
Because nobody actually played Crysis
They just masturbated to its graphics.
Case in point: over the past 10 years the ONLY thing I've ever heard people talk about with Crysis is how great it looks.
You are literally
And I do mean literally
The very first post I have seen to bother with its gameplay.
>VERY old sandbags sitting at incredible hihg speed
Well the NK evacuated the population off the island; they don't live in those huts.
I mean, aesthetically, he doesn't fit in with his surroundings.
Like something about that character looks like he's been edited into the screenshot.
Behind all the gwafix bullcrap, you kinda forget Crysis 1 was a damn fun game.
I can't even tell the difference, but I still run it because it doesn't change performance
Can't have been that much fun if you forgot about it.
Hello underage
>I can't even tell the difference
Load up a game and disable AF. Look at the ground/wall textures/shadows 20 feet in front of you. Blurred as fuck. AF on, no longer blurred.
I'm talking about real usage. if I look into the textures, yeah I'll notice it. but just normally playing? not at all
Talking about AF. In Catalyst control panel there was a setting that complemented AF by making textures look sharp even if you looked at them diagonally.
Since i moved to Nvidia, i forgot what it was called. Does anybody knows what the Nvidia version is called?
10 years later nintendo STILL shits out games with much worse graphics than this and nintendo drones STILL defend it.
Unbelievable.
The difference is pretty big. In some games even the LOD is affected.
Warhead is the best one. Fastpaced, great MC.
So long, you were born to soon.
Oh fuck, the h-mods were jizz supreme though. brb reinstallan
