You can call a monster male and everyone will accept it. However, you can't call that same monster female and get the same instantly accepting response. There needs to be a strong form of sexual dimorphism - it needs feminine traits.

Now you could do this by giving it female traits typical in the animal kingdom, but it's a lot less work and a lot more instantly recognizable as female if you just make them look like a human girl.
