Im looking to take up pixel art.

I've hear graphicsgale is a good place to start.
not looking to throw around a ton of money but i'd like to start somewhere.

Why not just use graphicsgale?
MSPAINT. You don't need anything fancier than that. Once you're good enough for it to matter, literally any program with layers is fine.
i've messed with quite a bit but i really would like to be able to draw and animate in one place. you may be right though. might be better off saving money for something like clip studio paint or something.
Yeah, animating is better in pretty much anything but MSPaint. I've never used clip studio, but it does occasionally go on sale for as low as like, 25 bucks, so I'd wait for that if you're planning on buying it.
It used to be pretty easy to find pixel art tutorials but now it just pops up shit about minecraft for some reason?
Basically this.
over a decade ago, Back in my SONIC FANDUMB DAYS I used to do sprite work and pixel art all in MSpaint.
Then I got photoshop.
While I still do some pixel art now, It's all in photoshop. Ive personally never heard of Graphicsgale.
But you know you can get these programs for (((free))) right?
The technique is better/the same for pixel art.
Minecraft textures teach you how to tile, however.
Any drawing tutorial works, to be honest.

A good community will push you better than any software.
Make him a bird by putting a beak there
This right here. tutorials will only get you so far, peers will push you to become better.
One of the guys who was working with Tokin on a now defunct Metroid fangame taught me a shitton of stuff regarding not just spriting but drawing as well
Aseprite is all you'll ever need.
Post pixel art, fagets.
rate my jiggly waifu
There is page called Piskel, I don't know if it is good or not but you can do some easy pixel art there you can even do animations.
Here is a slime girl that I made in the page, not very good tho.

Can you do timeline animation and layers in graphics gale? I have photoshop, but honestly it's such a burden. I hate that program.
you can in the paid version
I'll try it out, since I need sprites and I'm too poor to actually pay anyone.
Aseprite, try the trial then pay $15 for the full version.

any good communities for new artists looking to get into sprite art?
start with 32x32 pixels, do two hours every day, copy other artists work, get a drawing tablet.
pls rate.
I have no clue nowadays. I made friends years ago who were fans of a sprite series and we all developed our craft.
My advice is avoid Deviantart. You want none of that drama and recolor bullshit
I like to work in Aseprite. Very simple interface. Cuts through the bullshit. Layer management is a tad rough, but the color palette tools are great. I've done good work in gimp as well, but you have to tamper with the settings more, as it's not a pixel art specific program.

>started painting as a little kid
>never too good at it
>can learn to draw but feel i have no talent for it so i'll never be more than decent
>have talent for writing
>start reading classic lit, learn everything there is to know about english language poetry
>publish some poems
>still wish i could do visual art
i want to do pixel art a lot but i dont have the patience to git gud, and writers get no recognition these days since any shmuck can pick up a pen or keyboard and write. i envy u drawfags
Just get graphicsgale free. It has everything you need, animation, layers, everything. Paying just gets you gif exporting. If you want to pay get Aseprite
10/10 Bretty damn good.
0/10 Bretty damn bad.
Lineart is neat but the overall color scheme is too dark to make out the finer details that you would usually want to capture when working with robot-y/bug-y stuff.
Nice.
I want to do Pixel art but i have to learn how to draw ;_; im not very good drawing
It doesn't count until you reliably animate it.
Okay people, two questions.
1. Mouse or drawing tablet?
2. Pixel art with stylus on tablet, or no?
1: Tablet
2: Tablet
sorry, i meant ipad on 2.
Mouse, no. You can always start with a drawing, but doing the actual pixel art with a tablet or anything like that is sacrilege. It's all about placing pixels with high specificity, and especially on smaller pieces just changing one pixel can make it look radically different.
Some old work, used paint and a dragonite sprite as reference.
I always use mouse for spriting.
If i'm making pixel art i'll use a tablet to draw a sketch but then everything pixel related is done with mouse.
...
more pixel art.
pls rate.
the guy that does the art for barkley 2 uses graphics gale and he seems like a cool dude
I just edit Pokemon sprites

it's preference at the end of the day but this is the popular opinion of most pixel artists it seems
GraphicsGale or ASEsprite are gonna be your best picks.
