ICANN is the site that assigns DNS. That is, you as a user connect to a DNS server run by some company, so google.com gets translated into an IP, ICANN tells the guys that run the server what to put in it so all DNS servers match. You want to register a domain? You do it via ICANN, but since dealing with ICANN is hard generally you pay some third party (godaddy and such faggets) so they do the paperwork. So far the current thing was, the US had the final say. There was a direct dependency. If the US didn't like you owning "terroristsaregreatpeople.com" they could tell you to fuck off. Now the ICANN becomes its own thing, answering to nobody, more of an international entity for an international thing like the internet. Still being a nonprofit, still residing in the US.

Cred Forums used to be a no-holds-barred place where you are not guaranteed good discussion on any topic, but it was still great because it was so free and not constrained by rules. Cred Forums was "People who like the overarching topic of a board get together to discuss whatever they want, regardless if it's related to the board's topic or not" so Cred Forums would be people who all are very invested in video games talking about various things.
Cred Forums today is "Discuss board topic or your thread will be deleted and you may be banned"
