Dragon quest thread

time for another one of the comfiest threads of all time

if you grinded past basic jobs after alltrades questline in 7 then you ruined the game for yourself

just finished "disc 1"

god damn i just want maribel back, i've literally left aishe as a jester the entire time, fuck her; absolutely no personality

Heh heh heh... Looks like this is it for Dragon Quest threads around here. They had a good run, but... heh heh heh... the darkness beckons once more...

funny that you could almost track everyones progress through the game when a majority of people would post that they were at similar stages every few days

i hope our dq threads haven't died until 8 comes out, especially with the amount of X begging we've done

Is there no 100-token slot machine with two rows of 7s?

Do jesters not good off in this game? I didn't notice it the whole time I had her as one

eh they don't really contribute to any fight at all
granted by that point i was just spamming boulder toss and thin airs, mainly just had her spam her 0mp mini-multiheal during boss fights

Nope.

Is there a list of all the Haven residents as well as their location? Trying to pinpoint stuff is kinda annoying.

gamefaqs.com/boards/688276-dragon-quest-vii-fragments-of-the-forgotten-past/74326503

Cheers love.

The token rewards in the Haven casino are pretty shit, but what about the Lucky Panel rewards? Do I play there or at Buccanham?

Will the full game of Builders be worth buying? Demo is so fucking comfy.

i've heard that the haven casino has two stages, not 100% sure though

usually full games are better than the demo, i'm definitely keeping an eye on builders, it seems like the perfect vita game

So, I heard there was a late-game bug involving Maribel. Can I get details on this, please? Don't wanna have a dead game.

Don't be a reatrd and overwrite your save if it happens and you can always go back

That's not what I'm asking. If I could avoid it altogether, it'd be perfect.

>npc wants to teach you the great leveller spell
>he still has to perfect it
>travel to present and find his gravestone to learn it
>teach it to him in the past

at this point if you have maribel in your party, which is only possible by skipping the entire sub quest until the end of the game, she'll be kicked out and you can only use 3 party members max, also will be unable to battle final boss

just make sure that you do the sub quest straight away with aishe in your team

Hmm, that's a really big oversight from the devs. Thanks.

worrying about what jobs to use has been slowing my playthrough down. just beat that bandit leader in present Alltrades

I wish Maribel was the one who left permanently instead of the one who did

I guess they just assumed you would do the sub quest instantly

You eventually have at least two characters that go through the champion, i'd suggest having a dedicated monster heart character, kinda wish i did that instead of having 3 people somehow get to hero by the end of the game

how do I use those monster hearts?

just have them in the inventory of the character you want to change to that monster when you're changing their jobs

cool,I'll have my main guy start on those after I finish Shepherd I think

What did you guys think of the Joker games? Do you think we'll get Joker 3?

I'm not enjoying this at all, why is it so so samey and boring? I don't know if I'm just jaded with JRPGs recently or vidya in general.

Is Dragon Quest Dynasty Warriors any good?

I need something to play and maybe buying it will help them bring over games I actually care about.

loved joker 1 on ds and planning to play it again when i'm done with 7

2 was kinda boring and i never finished it though, i think it was due to the lack of any kind of story or real context
1 was insane though and i'm praying for an english 3 release

They're pretty good games, I enjoy them a fair bit.

>Do you think we'll get Joker 3?
Haha, fuck no.

We may get joker 3 now. Most outlets reporting they are selling out the stock of DQ7, particularly amazon who still won't have copies for another week.

The joker games are pretty good imo, but their replay is semi-limited as it gets boring going to all the same little areas all the time.

Can I just get rid all those travelers tablets that the haven recruits give you. I complete them as they are given to me but they are pretty much 2orthless afterwards right?

just make sure you have recruited the monsters they offer. Particularly that metal slime because the boss will stay put while you animal magnetism.

Besides, people are assholes and share those resident tablets all the time anyway.

it's pretty spammy but i had fun

especially with the late and post game bosses, some of those got pretty insane
I might actually make a new save file, beating up giant monsters with alena was pretty damn fun

Joker 1 was great
Joker 2 was good too but I was mostly mad that we didn't get Joker 2 Pro at the time

It's more like a Dragon Quest version of Mystic Heroes
youtube.com/watch?v=Ew0hNdK2Nvo

Especially the later stages that are like short dungeons instead of tower defense. The second game apparently drops the tower defense altogether.

>who would dare steal from the Almighty Himself?

Man, the lack of a lucky 100-token slot machine is killer. I'm getting respectable wins way less frequently than before.

>X's strength increased by 1
Fucking goddamnit

i played them for like 2 hours and only got 50k tokens, had to settle on playing the lucky flip for equipment instead of trading in for nice armour

I'm trying out a new strategy where I reload every time I lose more than 9k tokens and go back to save if I end up at 5k more than I started with. I'm slowly but surely building up tokens like this. Just spinning until you hit 7s isn't viable like it was for the 10-token ones, sadly.

Honestly, in this game you should play with the 10 tokens machines, they're way more worth it.

yeah i was at 5k, hit 5 blueberries for 30k and ended up slowly getting to 50k after saving, couldn't be bothered getting a couple of the metal slime helms, ended up getting 70k gold back after selling all my zombiebanes which i had outdamaged by then

not when you need 100k-200k tokens to outfit your whole party

You have a higher chance of winning 30k tokens on 10 tokens machines than on the 100 ones.

Just unlocked vocations, so my hero is a pirate, maribel is a priest and ruff is a kung fu fighter.

>hit 5 of a kind on 100-token slot
>it's cherries

JUST

but you could win 300k in one go
play big or go home bud

I came in here for that ginger wizard bitch with the huge tits. DELIVER

Except in this case, you play big AND go home.

Maribel is trash though.

>We may get joker 3 now. Most outlets reporting they are selling out the stock of DQ7, particularly amazon who still won't have copies for another week.

Didn't the same thing happen with DQ V DS, and S-E refused to re-stock it until everyone stopped paying attention?

Shut up, cuck! *punches you in the face which sends you flying across the floor* Heh... This is the power of a fist infused with a TRUE gambler's spirit! Now, grant me those tokens, baby! *hand glows gold as I pull the lever*

Isn't there one in Coastal? At least, I thought I played a 100 coin machine there. Not entirely sure, I just remember being shocked at winning 300,000 coins.

True. Hopefully their deranged campaign against gaijins has ended though.

i really disliked her in the beginning but i guess i just got used to seeing her in party chat
plus she had healslime and was about to get druid when she left

he means a 100 slot machine that has more 7's and melons

They have that lick attack that brings enemy def to 0. It's pretty useful when it works.

Ah okay.

when you get like 20k you should switch to 100 tokens, it's way faster in the long run.

The people saying aishe have no personality, don't take her to the past and use party chat. She has such much dialogue that is completely skipped over.

If by personality you mean being near braindead.

Seriously she makes ruff look like a genius at times. For a world traveler, she knows shit about the world.

thing is though i'm not interested in her at all
the roamers were boring
also her party chat talks come down to regular observations she has, at least maribel would ask questions or give her input on what she thinks about something

I liked the roamers in the story where Kiefer leaves, but they made me uncomfortable in the present for some reason.

>if you grinded past basic jobs after alltrades questline in 7 then you ruined the game for yourself
As in the game would be too easy? Is there a post game?

yeah, if you get advanced vocations instantly then you'll be 1 shotting entire mob groups for the next 40 hours

post game is pretty big and seems to be about as big as you want it to be with collectibles, monster dungeons, bonus dungeons, dlc etc

the bad thing is that the J3 we are getting probably is gonna be the original release and not the professional version.

Alright thank you very much.

>Have to deal with the Beacon's shitty slow moving platform not once, not twice but FUCKING THRICE
Goddamnit, worst dungeon in the game.

There are two post game dungeons after beating the final boss. You'll have at least 30 hours of the game after unlocking vocations to naturally level them up, assuming you don't set aside time to dick around at the casino.

The difficulty of the game is much better scaled assuming you don't grind, and you can do just fine without having Multiheal on everyone.

Is it true that 7 takes more than 100hours to finish?

Define finish

In the original's case? Probably, yeah, because everything is kinda designed in an unintuitive way. Remake is closer to 80 hours if you take your time.

Kill the last boss and see the credits, no post game though.

>went up there before you can even do the quest in present Buccanham with the armor shopkeeper
>have to do it a fourth time

JUST

Maribel can't equip LMS Helmets, right? In that case I'll only get 3, Aishe doesn't deserve one since she's destined for the bench anyway.

Then 55 hours for me, though I did a bit of vocation grinding for the last five hours and I didn't touch the casino at all.

>don't grind at all
>Ruff masters Monster Masher around the start of Hubble
>everyhting gets scorched to death
You're gonna one-shot the mobs whether you like it or not

just get the golden tiara for maribel from the wis(?) contest, it's her best helmet and you can get it pretty early

Oh ok, now I feel like playing this. Thanks

one shotting groups by hubble is much better than one shotting groups right after the abbey

that's like a 25 hour difference man

>Still no DQM 1/2 3DS remakes localized
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I've given up. It's literally all I want, but I won't get it. There's no rumors of a fan translation either.

Actually...
gbatemp.net/threads/translation-dragon-quest-monsters-terrys-wonderland-3d.431204/

Is this guy actually making progress on it?

It's in the final stage, they're almost done with testing the whole thing.

holy fuck, seriously?

Don't toy with me like this, man. This is my gold-standard for GBC games and I adored this game growing up so much.

...

Are the Sacred Armors from the casino worth grabbing or does everyone have superior armor later?

if i have a 3ds with homebrew will that be enough to play it?
obviously considering i buy the physical copy

If you can run HANS and an actual copy of the game, it should be enough, yeah. Though the most optimal way would be to have a CFW, of course.

Are the slot machines just all luck based?

I just made it past alltrades abbey and i already see u guys talking about doing the casino.

Is this more of a postgame thing? I played some match game and lost every time and just left the place. Am i missing out on stuff?

I managed to obtain a Platinum King Slime Heart, but I'm not sure on which character use it. Right now MC is a Champion, Maribel is Druid, while Ruff and Mervyn are Heroes

>Went up there without the prism dew because I didn't know where to go
>Went up there before doing the fetch quest for the fragment in the present
>Climbed that tower 5 times

Just fucking kill me

Think they'll tackle 2 afterwards? I hope so.

Guess I gotta jailbreak my 3DS.

Which dungeons can I grind in past level 25? My champion and druid are not leveling at all in the heavy metal dungeon at level 26

there's 3 casino's
2 you find during the main game
the third is part of the haven

the first 2 casino's all have massive equiptment upgrades for sale and in the lucky flip, it's up to you if you wanna get them but some of us have fun grinding the tokens i guess

Who knows? It'd be cool, but I can't say for sure.

why would you have champion and druid at level 26? why would you need to grind if you have those already?

Because I want to get hero for both of them, and Gabo needs to get another intermediate vocation for hero as well

yeah, I mean I can't be picky. These guys took a huge chunk of time to translate a game that was massive compared to the first.

How much shit did they add? I know the monster count is gigantic, but what about quests and what not?

Besides the fact that they streamlined the gameplay to be more similar to the Joker series', I don't know anything about the game, sorry.

ah well. Thanks for the info man. I'd given up on there being a fan translation, but seeing it's literally that close has me happy again.

Too bad my 3DS XL is 11.0.0.33U

fair enough, just make your own dungeons, they let you grind infinitely

somehow i doubt you can though considering you seemed to have spent the past 10 hours grinding the free dungeons

I mean, if you're confident enough in your soldering skills, you could always hardmod. It's a short process, and then you're golden.

Oh, thanks.

Whats the best way to get tokens then? Lotto or match game?

I recall someone mentioning in one of the homebrew threads that I am not out of luck if I have another 3DS, which I do. One being normal and one being XL shouldn't cause issues, I hope.

I'm looking at Plailect's guide, but still not sure where to start.

The other one needs to already have CFW setup, as well as a specific DSiWare purchased on it.

oh shit, really? Maybe I'll just hold off on updating my 3DS XL. Didn't Nintendo start phasing out DSi purchases?

Match game turns your tokens into items or equipment.
Slots are ultimately the best way to earn more tokens.

Well, maybe the scene is holding off on releasing a newer softmod method, just in case Nintendo pulls a fast one, but I wouldn't hold my breath. And I don't know, about the DSi purchases.

Yeah that makes sense. Don't think I'd be able to purchase the title since I need to update the system to get it online I imagine.

I'll see what my options are. Thanks for the info bud!

No problem. I hope you get to play it!

you da real MVP

>fat ass puts on a guard uniform
>turns into a default guard model

that's just lazy. Also this fucking robot island in current day is fucking tedious as shit.

Welcome to Dragon Quest, motherfucker, enjoy your stay.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me you little bitch I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the bavy seals.

Is Dragon Quest Heroes worth playing to get my DQ fix before Builders?

Is it true that the EUR version doesn't have lags in the menu unlike the US one?

I have the eur version. It does have lag. Turn off your wifi and it will help somewhat.

O3DS user btw.

Faraday is one of the worst part of the game

Seems like it. Who knows what NoA screwed up this time.

Why do I always lose interest before the halfway point when I try to play DQIII? It's the only mainline DQ game I still haven't beaten

o_O

>Turn off your wifi
Just the switch or is there an in-game option like in MHGen?

the switch. No in game option.

So...I've never played a Dragon Quest game.

Where the fuck do I start?

So whats the best Job lineup

Right now I have
Main Character - Hero
Maribel - Sage , working towards Druid
Ruff - Pirate
Aishe- Monster Masher

Idk what to do with Ruff and Aishe since those classes dont advance to anything else , and I dont want 4 heroes

Everything is fine as your first DQ except II and VII

3 champions and a druid/plat king.

Monster Masher is good as is.Make Ruff a Champion.

If you have a DS you can start with V or IV, and work your way up.

GIVE ME AN INTERNATIONAL RELEASE OF HEROES 2 YOU SLANT-EYED FUCKS AND NO-ONE GETS HURT

What's the problem with VII?

Too long for a first timer. You might get bored. It's for those who are fans already.

If we got Arslan, if we got Ken's Rage, both in fact, and if we got Berserk Musou, WE'RE GONNA GET HEROES 2.

Isnt 4 5 and 6 a trilogy ?

same with 1 2 and 3 ?

Did we ever reach a consensus on which version of vii had the least amount of menu lag?

very loose and certain plot elements can contradict others.

The japanese version on a new 3ds with luma's custom overclock.

What happened with the talented programmer user who said he was gonna reverse engineer the japanese version so that he could remove the lag?

Whatever, IGN

The remake of VII still has the same episodic format of every Dragon Quest ever, it's just that there's much more of it.

Admittedly it takes an hour to enter the first battle, but the game itself has a good balance of action and dialogue.

But if you are concerned about the game's length, you could start with 3 or 5. 1 and 2 can take a miss until you've played some other games in the series, since 2 has poor balance and 1 is a solo affair.

I dont get why people are complaining about getting 120 hours of a good game regular 3DS price which are usually like 15 hour games

There's better armor but it's good for a while after you can get it. It's especially good for the upcoming melvin solo segment

They really went overboard with the job grinding.

Not really. You can grind out the best human classes with normal game progression. It's your own autism if you want to go further than that.

>not mastering every single job including monster classes
>not unlocking the Almighty class

u pleb

Why are all the weapons and armor so fucking expensive in DQ7? I can't even afford these upgrades.

some really aren't worth it. General rule of thumb is that unless it has a gimmick or gives more than a +3 boost it isn't worth it.

Welcome to DragonQuest.

________Alena's Legs_____________

The trick to Dragon Quest is to obtain money through gambling at casino, not by grinding monsters.

You need to play the casino

Play the card matching game, sell all the gear you win

When do I find the casino?

If you are at alltrades abbey yet , there is a small inn on the same island, look in the well and there is a hidden casino

Unless the monsters you happen to be grinding are Gem Slimes, Gold Golems, or Goodybags

Just got gangbanged by Cumulus Vex and his crew. This must be karma for those hundreds of battles I've won in a singe round by abusing Thin Air.

Grind up that Multiheal
Or at least have Aishe spamming Hustle Dance every turn

Do I need to wait until I can go to Scoober's kingdom in the present, or is having seen him in the past enough to go help that Gracos-looking monster that wants his help?

They made it easier compared to the original, so if that's still too much for you, you're a little bitch.

I had Mervyn with Multiheal as a sage. Got hit with a party wide wind attack and then a single wind attack and he was taken out from full health in one turn.
I'll just give him some seeds and the RNG will probably be much kinder next time I play. Same happened with Cardinal Sin and his ball attack.

You need to go to his kingdom in the present. It's near Haven

I had Hero halfway mastered on my Hero by the time I got to the final boss, and the only grinding I did was to get Aishe and Mervyn caught up to a advanced class around Aeolus Vale.

Everyone I see says Cardinal Sin was a pain, but he lasted like 10 turns with me, and my health never dropped past half. Maybe I got lucky, so could I have an explanation, please?

Whats the most broken attack in the game

So far I have found that

Oomph + Focus Strength to Knuckle Sandwich is the most damage I can dish out

around 1800 every time at level 30

Speaking of sidequests like that, can you do them after you get the sea dragon? I completely forgot to go to scoobers, talk to the notgracos and get the 30 wisdom hat

He does some attack where he hits two random people for a bunch of damage, it can potentially hit the same person twice and fuck them up if they don't have Buff up for some reason.

You can put him to sleep though which makes him a total joke.

He's got an attack where he throws a ball at you that does a crazy amount of damage. If he uses that move twice against a single character it's basically death to anyone.
I beat him on my second try and he didn't even use it once. While in the first battle he spammed the shit out of it and destroyed me.

I don't think anything can top that, most other high damaging skills are either fixed damage like Blade of Ultimate Power, unaffected by damage buffs like Thin Air, or multihit moves where only the first hit is affected by the damage boost like Multifists

That's the best you'll ever get. This combo is broken in every DQ game it's in.

You can do everything you listed at any time, except the hat.

rip hat

The guy didn't have it at the leader summit so I was hoping I'd be able to do the quest later. Probably dont need it for the wisdom rankings though

Not in DQ9, buffed falcon attack+falcon sword could reach 3k damage or more.

So the best game to start with would be 5, right?

Is the audience with the king at hubble mandatory? Or can you miss it?

So to have access to hero you need to master 3 intermediate vocations, or 2 intermediate + one superior?

V or VIII

Any three vocations that aren't basic or monsters.

>Beat The Almighty in exactly 20 turns
>Don't get anything
Fucking jew

whats the point of muster strength when focus strength exists?

they stack

Isn't Muster Strength to raise your defence against the next hit?

>which is only possible by skipping the entire sub quest until the end of the game
couldn't you just do Hubble before either Nottagen or Providence?

Does Oomph not affect Gigaslash and Blade of Ultimate Power?

Blade is a non-elemental spell so it will never get oopmh'd

>10 second jingle every time I earn 1500 tokens in the Casino

Why?

...

Just beat the island with the automata's (past)

How much longer until I get muh jobs

>tfw DQ Builders gets a guide book but DQ7 didn't

One more Island and then you can go to the Abbey

Great

Isn't Builders' guide giant too?

Why you want a DQ7 guide book? For monster vocation info?

That plus I collect guide books. Its cool having a huge tome with all the info of your favorite games plus cool art work and charts and stuff.

What's up with Monster Meadows? I've handed over like 4 Enclosure Plans, but I only have 2 enclosures available, and I can't even hand over the new plans I've currently got with me.

So I'm on top of the great lighthouse and there's another giant black flame ball. How do I extinguish it? Thanks for the help

you have to go to a paid inn each time you want to see the park expand. You may have to talk to the guy each time too. Dunno about that though.

There's a lot of info that we don't have though. Namely information about skills like how strong they are and their accuracy and shit. The information on the net is rather barren compared to other games

>This came out right in the middle of the semester so I can barely play this inbetween classes when I don't have work to do
>Don't have the urge to play it at home because FF14
>Finally got around to playing it a couple hours at a time on weekends
>Got it on a midnight release when I braved a gamestop and all of the melanin-enriched gentleman hooting for NBA 2K17
>Last night I beat the section with the herb garden where the girl wants to marry some guy who fucked off, just went there in the present

Holy shit when the fuck do I get Alltrades Abbey

Around 20 hours in

haha le dirty blacks playing non-Cred Forums approved video games XD

You need Prism Dew. You can get it by using the blue teleporter in the temple where you put the fragments into the pedestals, then interacting with the shimmering water in the location it warps you to.

Thanks famolama

That doesn't mean anything to me considering my snail's pace has me at like 24 hours, so unless it happens right after the present day Greenthumb then I don't know man

>Gamestop with so many goddamn black people in it we couldn't all fit in the store, everybody smelled like weed, nobody had an indoor voice and screamed just to talk to their buddy standing next to them, literal fights breaking out over games of NBA being played at the front of the store and ANOTHER fight breaking out because of console war bantz
>Only white guy in the building and the only one getting something other than NBA
>Guy behind me in line sees me get my game
>AYOO WAT DAT BUUUUUUUUUUUULLSHIT, WAT DAT BUUUUUUUUULLSHIT, THIS NIGGA GETTIN' SOM NINTENDO BUUUUUUUUUUUULLSHIT

I don't give a shit what game they played buddy, that night was hell

bump
I'm at the island at war with magicians, how much hours left?

Almost done Disc 1

>dat Skystone theme

Just beat the first Island ( the one with Maeve), how many more till I unlock jobs?

15 hours

lol

about 5 or six.

Crap, thanks. I'm enjoying the game a ton, but I want to make the characters useful, especially Maribel.

Just named my character, how long till the final boss?

Maribel will become your strongest character when she learns Bang. The hero is the one who really needs jobs before he stops being a shitter, but at least he can heal.

Maribel learns Sap and Snooze naturally, that's hella useful

I have a ps2 and a DS emulator and I wanted to check this series out. What do you recommend that I start with?

I just brought the game home, how long till I name my character?

SAVED

You can have this as well user, if you give me an answer

Fuck
I'll probably avoid these threads once 8 comes out. Knowing about Oomph/Focus Strength/Knuckle Sandwich and Thin Air made things too easy

V and VIII are pretty good starting points. Either of them is fine.

I bought it today for a tenner. It's pretty fun.

8 has a very different structure, there aren't classes and every character has five skill trees to dump points into. Even the ones that overlap between some characters like Swords and Fisticuffs have different skills and passive bonuses available. Only two of the original four party characters can get Oomph and Knuckle Sandwich is far from being the strongest thing in the game. Not sure what Red or Morrie get exactly.

Yeah but 3 of the 4 learn thin air very early and it breaks the game beyond reason too even with the debuff to damage and it costing mp.

I loved Joker, I have Joker 1 as well but I kind of ignored it and jumped straight to the sequel. I think I'll go back and play that one too after DQ7 and Builders. Really hoping J3 Professional comes out over here.

I just won 3000 and then 30000 tokens back to back. I just wanted to stock up on Magic Water

Thin Air requires a pretty decent investment in Fisticuffs, especially for Jessica, and besides Yangus they generally have better places to put the points.

And while it does make random encounters a joke it's not great for boss fights.

8's balanced so you can beat the game pretty easily as long as you don't do something stupid like try and spread your points evenly between every skill on every character though so doesn't matter too much.

dqx when

Why even bother worrying about boss fights though when psyche up exists? Shit doesn't even become an issue till dhoulmagus and even after, thin air makes things like dark jessica laughable.

If I ever replay 8 after the remakes I might try an all Fisticuffs run for giggles

The main problem I can see with that is missing out on some basic shit from the character's 5th skill trees and some buffs from Jessica and Angelo's staves tree for a while.

when enough people whine at s-e

it's a really good class for most people. Angelo suffers the most though, and some people may miss twin dragon lash in the ps2 release. But there are some considerable strength boosts that compensate for the most part. Way easier than I thought it would be.

Favorite boss?
Mine is definitely not the hardest, but he kicked my ass real good when I encountered him.

Is multiheal essential for beating Cumulus Vex? I thought having midheal on 3 and aishe with the salvation staff would be okay... Fuck, I don't want to grind Healslime again.

>casting zing eight times in a row and it DOESN'T FUCKING WORK

Probably Psaro. I liked how he kept evolving over time and made the battle a real endurance test

You could also get Hustle. I'd say some kind of multi healing skill is pretty necessary. What's your party setup?

the more essential skill is magic barrier.

There are ways to cheese it though like bounce and dances.

I did Hubble before Providence, still had Maribel in my party when I got the Great Leveller

Just spam Hustle Dance with Aishe, it's all she's good for

III-V are good starts. You can also play the PS2 version of VIII if you don't want to wait on the 3DS version, though it does have some nice changes and enhancements.

Ruff: Berzerker Lv. 27
Mervyn: Gladiator Lv. 25
Albrecht (MC): Mimic Lv. 29
Aishe: Troubadour Lv. 23

They all do pretty good damage with Oomph, keeping them alive is the problem.

I think Ruff has that, considering changing him back to Monster Masher (already maxed). Scorch was seeming to be a kind of cheap move, but I may need it...

Paladin and Sage have multiheal, so you might consider that. Aishe looks to be on her way to become a luminary, so you might consider that

>Why even bother worrying about boss fights though when psyche up exists?
"[Boss] lets out a wave of ice!"
Everything past Captain Crow, and even a lot of bosses before that, fucking love to spam that shit

youtube.com/watch?v=6rnSh6x9yLQ

3, 5, or 8.

Does she join with ranks in dancer and whatnot?

So.. I just got Ruff How long until the job selection starts?

20 hours

Anything except II
I recommend IV, V, or VIII

You get jobs once you get to disc 2

If this were another game I would call bullshit but really I'm 9 hours in I need another 11 to get job system?

not original user, by why not II?

She's mastered it

It was before the series figured out the whole "talk to NPCs to find out where to go next" thing so you have very little direction for most of the game, and one of the later areas of the game is a bitch and a half to even get through.

None of those depended on Squenix.

We literally get every Musou, I wouldn't worry.

oh fuck off, chen

I forgot 7 had Falcon knife earrings, are they worth a shit at all? Only the girls can use em so only Aishe has potential with them i assume

How will i do against the final Boss with 3 champion and a druid.

>Luminary
Yeah that was intentional, Druid seems to make sense for her but I'm not sure if I'll have her for that long.

If you've got Insulate and Magic Barrier you'll be fine
His second form is the hardest

>Tfw you can't learn cccoldbreath permanently

Why would you need to? More shit's completely immune to Ice than Fire. Like most Demon enemies.

What to do when your fighting the boss but it goes full on hippoklatze?

(ps if you don't know what hippoklatze means your not good enough to have reached this boss so don't waste my time replying... ok, thanks)

When will I encounte platinum king slime and prism peacock and beastly priest?

(you)

Yes! Haha!! YESSSSSS!!! I got a (You) at last

I can't seem to bring myself to play post-game in DQVII. Like yesterday I finally beat the game, but then I didn't feel like continuing to play and it's almost as if I feel burned out of playing it too.

I got gypped by the bonus boss the second time I fought him and didn't get anything despite beating him in 20 turns, somehow 5 turns longer than the first time.

I just finished Providence and I have access to mid vocations already, should I start mastering those soon or can I wait a little.

I don't want the game to be broken easy.

>mfw the torban festival

Queen Euphonia is kind of a huge cunt, isn't she?

I'm missing like 2 FUCKING 2 MINI MEDALS to get the tablet from Maximo.

I had 85 mini medals when I arrived in Buccanham, and I didn't use a guide. Feels good to be a #medaldetector

Dude I got like 95 without even needing to look up a handful I missed.

You get a few from the Haven every time it upgrades, get to work on recruiting more migrants.

yeah I thought she was crazy at that moment. Wanting to destroy the torban of truth.

How important is it to change personalities in III? I just started a while back and I got Lazy but i just picked up a book to make me a tomboy.
>if you grinded past basic jobs after alltrades questline
How far till i get there? I remember hearing about not grinding to much, but I'm not that far, since i just took Maeve out?

I still feel bad that I gave up even though i was close to beating it, i just didn't want to grind

Another 15 hours.

Well there is an old lady at the castle who tells you she banned anything she wan't good at from Hubble.
The only NPC that offers a criticismas far as I know, but still a major red flag.

Yeah, I remember her, but I thought wanting to smash someone else's treasure and wanting to execute anyone who got in your way was a step beyond that.

I bet you probably won't even get to tell her off either.

What are you supposed to do in providence?
The village got burned, I picked up the box and talked to the stupid kid, then what?
He tells me to go to the cave behind the church but there's nothing there, nor in the church's basement

Go back to the bridge you retard, you clearly forgot something obvious there

So I got Dragon Quest IX real cheap because VII looks good, but I wasn't sure how I'd like the series. I'm loving IX, how similar is it to VII?

IX is basically VII but worse, except for the inclusion of Alchemy I guess.

IX is closer to III.

Heck yeah

I had Alena's Original outfit equipped at all times

The tablet signal was going off in Estard during the ending, but I didn't feel like getting it since I assumed I could just pick it up afterwards. But now the signal's not active. Do I have to beat the game again to get that?

Endgame is better thought

Where do i go when they say i need to awaken the Almighty?
I tried to go to the water cavern but that didn't work. And the tournament for the turban player thingy hasn't started yet.

Start with the Zenith Trilogy and just progress from there.

III is a good game if you want to get the feel for what Dragon Quest is like. It's the third game in Zenith trilogy, which has connections to I and II, but you don't really need to worry about playing those.

V and VIII are a popular choice among fans

VII is fine. I knew a lot of people who started with VII, myself included, when the Enix forum was still up.

Yes
The piece is in the well of Estard, on the victory lap

>if you grinded past basic jobs after alltrades questline in 7 then you ruined the game for yourself
More like I started having fun.

>III is a good game if you want to get the feel for what Dragon Quest is like. It's the third game in Zenith trilogy, which has connections to I and II, but you don't really need to worry about playing those.
I-III is the Erdrick trilogy
IV-VI is the Zenithia trilogy

Oh woops, meant to say Erdtrick trilogy.

Man, Orgodemir is hard. Rhapthorne was nothing compared to him.

It happens

I beat it in 64 hours.

Go to the shrine west of the present day robot place. You should have gotten a sacred stone or so.

Anyone?

Orgodemir's only tough form was his second one since he's faster than you and spams high end spells. Everything else was so slow it was easy to heal up.

Meanwhile Rhapthorne is fast and spams spells throughout the entire fight, the whole final boss fight. On top of having to do that annoying "Everyone uses the four staves on the same turn multiple times" thing to get rid of his barrier and start the second phase.

I mean it's been a longass time since I played DQ8, but I think I was around level 40 when I beat that game and I was only level 35 at the end of DQ7.

Uh, thats actually good. Thanks man

Oops, meant east

>all these monster eggs on the underground of Blight Cathedral

Now I know where monsters came from.

Talk to king Donald

I want to do the bonus dungeons but I still need 10 more mini medals and fuck me if I'm going to search for them.

I'm waaaaaaaaaaay past that.
I hate defeated the demon king or whatever.

Where is he?
He is gone from the throne room

>Orgodemir's only tough form was his second one

What, you didn't get comboed by him doing his aoe attack and afterwards using his ultimate "unleash all magic attack" thing?

Fucking murdered everyone except for Maribel. Thank God Hero and her had Kazing.

His second form is easy.

>What, you didn't get comboed by him doing his aoe attack and afterwards using his ultimate "unleash all magic attack" thing?
I don't think I even saw whatever you're talking about. He got fisted to death around the time he started spawning extra monsters into the fight on his last form.

I didn't even grind out endgame shit on anyone. Hero was only halfway through Hero, Mervyn was still on the first fucking star as a Champion, Ruff was a Prism Peacock still and Maribel was halfway through Sage.

Rhapthorne at least had the HP (and Disruptive Wave spam) to stand up to Jessica, Yangus, and Hero pounding his fat ass nonstop for more than a few turns total.

Banquet room

>I don't think I even saw whatever you're talking about

You got lucky then.

Thanks senpai.
Was stuck there for a bit.

How do I get those two treasure chests in Estard's weapon shop? Even the Ultimate Key can't open them. Nose For Treasure registers them, so they can't just be decorations.

You open it with almighty key, which can only be gotten by mastering all classes including monster classes.

They are just decorations. Try casting Peep on them, you'll see.

I'll be damned, you're right. I wonder if that's the case for all the vendor chests you can reach, even though they register with Nose for Treasure.

More like I fisted him into submission before he had a chance to pull any of his bullshit

So Wisdom just increases status resistance and not spell power in VII?

Yeah. Spell damage is fixed.

...

>finally get Maribel back
>but now Mervyn's gone

They just won't let me bench Aishe, will they?

I wonder what causes males to age so much when they become mages

Damn all this shit taste in the thread. Aishe is best girl. tough/masculine/tomboy girls always in baby.

typecasting.

The archetype is alright. But she has no personality.

Finished hubble and recruited the new girl. How long from here?

Next island is the last one.

You're almost done Disc 1

But you can.

Damn seriously? About how many hours from here to the final boss then?

>Apparently I ruined the game for myself because I have advanced jobs
Nah I'm having a blast using Thin Air/Lightning/Scorch to win every random encounter.

30~
> ps1 times

Hour and a half. Give or a take a minute or three.

As long as you're happy with that and don't complain, it's alright. The warning is there because people were grinding to death and then complaining that the game is too easy because they were stomping first 20 hours content with advanced jobs.

Any one else disappointed by The bonus dungeons and bosses? The second bonus dungeon boss was insanely easy at just level 55-50. And Almighty wasn't exactly a huge challenge either

>normally hate tsunderes
>love Maribel
How does she pull it off?

I liked using Thin Air and... I forgot the name of the item, but you can buy it in the flood episode. When you use it it casts Merami (second tier fire spell), so I always had one or two characters using that and another one or two using Thin Air.

Yo what the fuck I just freed the Almighty and everyone just tells me to go to Pilchard Bay but shit ain't happening.

See the chef

She's the original tsundere. She literally defined the term. All tsunderes after her tried to mix it up a bit so as to not be a carbon copy and just fucked it up.

Nice somehow the one and only npc i missed talking to

So I just finished the desert, and after the party I feel like I'm missing a bunch here. Is there a second scenario here later? There's women sluts blocking me from trezzies in the present palace, and a room in the past palace basement I can't get into yet.

...

Daily reminder that DQ7 blows.

60 hours played, not even half that worth anything of note.

What's a good place to level grind? I cannot contain my ultimate power.

Yes, you go back late

Well, that's just, like, your opinion man

>Reminder to send your daily DQX email to square support

>tfw the game makes shit insanely obvious but no one points it out
God this fucking pissed me off about Aishe.

Groovy. Onwards and upwards then.

>just beat Gracos
>teleported out of the dungeon

I can go back, right? I think I missed something.

I might be remembering wrong, but I think the room in the past can be accessed by talking to the queen now. Present stuff is definitely much later though.

Yeah you can. Be sure you visit it in the present.

Huh, in the Jap version, the wind stone is called "God's Stone".

stupid weeb

Did the characters refer to a god in that region? My memory is a bit hazy

Oh thank you god. I know I only missed some of the shit that was on the outside, because I went down the hidden stairs first.

Double check the Next Tablet Fragment thing under info but yeah you come back later.

Nah. Even the final main island is just a fuck you.

Remember exploring the town, cave, and lighthouse in the past? Good. Now do them all again.

Game would be half as long and a zillion times better if you weren't forced to retread the exact same locations. Fuck that lighthouse in particular. You have to climb it twice in the past because fuck the player, that's why. Then again in the present going through the exact same motions. Sadly that's faaaaaar from the only example of the game telling you to retread the same old ground in the past alone, nevermind the present.

Honestly if you cut out the backtracking and streamlined things a bit more the game would go from a solid 7/10 to a 9/10 easily.

So, everyone wants DQ X localized, is their a basic guide for it, like what classes do what, what spells do what, some general tips/etc? Because if we do get it I'd like to be a little prepared.

It's called "Sacred Stone" in the 3DS version's english uh, version

Post yfw Kiefer leaves

It was worse when the game takes away my fucking maxed out druid

>playing dq7
>want to get another member for Haven
>go to share tablets
>as it is about to do its thing it errors out
>go back into it
>EVER SO SORRY BUT HAVE ALREADY SHARED IN THE LAST 24 HOURS
>no new residents or tablets

Unless I screwed it up when I checked last, messing with the date/time settings on the 3ds doesn't work either does it?

I played the Nip version a year ago, and I kinda want to play the English version to see what it's line, but as long as it is, I don't know. I've been playing JRPG after JRPG with few non-JRPGs between them for like, two years now.

I still have DQ Heroes sitting here, for about six months now, unplayed. Is it worth it?

I've finished DQ8 and 5 and I'm pretty sure I'm close to being done with 7 which should i go with next friends?

I-III or IV.

Joker 2, coming off Joker 1 was fantastic. I didn't think the DS could do models that well. Pic related has jiggle physics.

Pretty good, has some neat light hearted humor. Wish the second one would hurry up and come on over.

Have an unfinished wiki

dqx.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Quest_X_Wiki

I miss the days when DQ games were 30 hours or less affairs (aka DQ1 through 6). Ever since 3D and larger storage space hit, the games main quest playtime skyrocketed with little to no benefit to the player.

Personalities determine generally what stats you get each level, have a look here:
strategywiki.org/wiki/Dragon_Warrior_III/Personality

Basicly, if your personality has a 100% in it that stat, you will ALWAYS get a stat increase at level up. If it's above 100%, then there's a chance of an additional point being added on top of that.

This means that a full female team with all sexy personalities gets the best statss in the game, and the best armor because they are female.
Magic Bikinis OP, Sacred even more so.

strategywiki.org/wiki/Dragon_Warrior_III/Armors#Remakes

Without spoiling anything, how much endgame does VII have? Compared to IX?

A couple dungeons.

Naru from Love Hina says hi.

And that's just the first tsundere character from the top of my head that I know dating before DQ7. There are probably much earlier examples.

so what does completing the have actually do?

Pretty good
The later stages are better than the earlier Tower Defense style stages
Some of the bosses are neat

DQ7's really the only one that easily clears 80 hours. And with the 3DS version that's quite a bit shorter now, I took 80 hours with a LOT of fucking around in the casino. Most of em hover around 50-60ish for the main game, 80 if you do everything.

Would you guys say Hero or Champion is the ultimate class?

So, where we goin with Cred Forums dies, /dqg/?

Hero, Champion, Druid and an Esterk (or Platinum King) are the best end of the line options.

>Hero can't even use the blade of ultimate power
Hero can self destruct?

make a discord

wrong game user that's VIII not VII

Is the builders demo not in Canada?

Exceeding 50 hours is too much, which 9 did, unless I was playing it very, very wrong. 8 clears the 60 hour mark for the main story. It started with 7, and sure has gone done somewhat from its extremes, but it's to much all the same. I'm wary of how 11 will turn out in this regard.

>Exceeding 50 hours is too much
See pic

>8 clears the 60 hour mark for the main story.
Took me 50 hours my first time playing.

I'm guessing 11 will be about the same

>Exceeding 50 hours is too much, which 9 did, unless I was playing it very, very wrong.
are you talking about doing all the tablet dungeons (or whatever they are in IX, it's been a while), or just the main story? the main story is only like 40 hours

>TFW I took 139 hours

I don't know how I managed it, even if it was my first time playing the game. Sure I played it in Japanese with a year less experience than I have now, but even then it was pretty simple and quick to read most stuff.

>finish the game
>only just notice Maribel has her own way of breaking barrels and pots

How do you move someone else to the first slot to see that?

Go to misc. Line up and just choose the order you want the characters in

Equinox is only hard because the game doesn't tell you the grotto bosses start as strong as the late story bosses.

>you can play as other characters
Holy shit

dqxi is going to save the genre right?

The original Tsundere is Sayaka from Mazinger Z though.

I really want to like builders but it's just not good. Combat is boring, building isn't great. I can deal with that.

What I can't deal with are all the arbitrary restrictions they put in with buildings. let me decide how big my rooms are and what they look like.

Also the soundtrack is super repetitive.

This is not a 60 dollar game. I'd buy it for 15.

Why the hell are the Dragon Quest devs saying they invented Tsundere then

Who knows
Maybe they meant to say in vidya

They exist purely as an intermediary to get Luminary.

The thing is, games like DQ9 just lumped those 3 classes (Troubadour, Dancer, Jester) into Minstrel, because why the fuck not

No one is saying that. But from what I see, Maribel is belong to old type tsundere, which is what the old cartoons (love hina, maison ikkoku and others) way to depict what tsundere was.

Meanwhile modern tsundere was popularized by toradora, zero no tsukaima and others modern anime. This type is what most tsundere-haters hate the most, because they always resort to violence towards the mc while very rarely showing the dere side.

Never played a dragon quest game, how are they compared to final fantasy series? I'd like to try some new rpgs

They were literally saying that during the Treehouse stream at E3, and they've said it plenty of times before that.

Oh you mean the devs. Who knows then. I thought you were referring to the tsundere discussion user started in this thread and previous thread.

Why does Monster Masher have to be so good

Why can't there be an advanced vocation off of Pirate+Monster Masher

...

>Endgame tier class that can steal shit
Yes fucking please
Call it Bandit King or something I dunno

unlike FF, which changes things pretty much every entry, DQ has managed to stay mostly the same gameplay wise

They are very old-school jrpgs

FF is much better.

...

Weren't you able to break all your uncle's bottles in this game?

bump

So I'm pretty fucking sure that Almighty gets stronger every time you fight him. The first time I beat him in 16 turns. this second time it took me fucking 34 turns. Granted this time I had Mervyn (Hero not maxed) instead of Maribel (Druid maxed) and he was a whopping 10 levels below her since I didn't use him for about 14 hours, but I still had 2 Champions (Hero and Aishe) and another Hero (Ruff) picking up the slack. This battle was cutting it fucking close too. At one point it was just the Hero alive with like 15 hp. I was lucky and he moved first in in 2 turns, which was enough to get a fullheal and a kazing off. I'm gonna have to grind a bit more now. This is getting really fun.

How much did it sell?

I need that XI.

Well it sold out but it also completely failed to chart in the top 10 3ds sellers in just about every area so looks like Squeenix fucked up yet again with a pathetically small print run and by the time they actually refresh stock (if they even do) everyone will have moved on and they'll go back to complaining no one ever buys the games.

Wasn't sold out here. I called 4 places.
I thought I would have to go far for a copy.

Tru
>Trusting a jewdog
Never ever

Which one is better as Platinum King the Hero or Ruff?

ruff has better agility so probably him for first turn omniheals

When can I get a platinum king jewel? The final dungeon? Pls no.

It's selling out on Amazon and most retailers. It's either doing great or Nintendo didn't print nearly enough copies

110 mini medals
or master estark and drake slime monster hearts

Nintendo published DQ7 in NA. I think they were the ones who decided how many to print? It's available digitally so it's not like it's completely unavailable until they print more.

I meant encounter one to recruit it. Like where is it. Also is the torban festival/tournament postgame after the final boss?

you're near the end of disc 1 bro
there's 2 discs

just did the alltrades abbey shit and I'm kinda lost now.
am I supposed to get that flying carpet or what

No the carpet is quite a ways away.
