You should read Ultimate Spider-Man from the start up until Peter's death, that's some good Spidey shit with some good re-imagining of his classic stories. Way back in high school, Peter had a bully. Flash Thompson. He was also Spider-man's biggest fan.

Eventually, Flash became Peter's friend, but still made fun of him. Inspired by his hero, Spider-man, Flash joined the army. Got his legs blown off jumping on a grenade to save another soldier.
Legless, the military made him an offer. Become a super soldier by bonding to the Venom symbiote which is drugged, so he stays in control. The symbiote grows legs for him too.

The comic starts out with him going out on missions, and having to return the symbiote after 48 hours so that it doesn't start bonding to him. Things start to go wrong, and Venom slowly starts to come to its senses and gain control, but along the way, it actually starts to like Flash.

The run went on for 42 issues. The first 22 or so are amazing, and then it switches writers. The second writer is good, but takes awhile to really take off.
Then another writer ruined everything and sent him to space to join the Guardians of the Galaxy and retconned a bunch of symbiote history.

You would need like three hours to win that fight. But nice bait, Dunkey.

Read O'Neil's run.

Forgot to mention, he's losing the symbiote because Marvel's making Venom have a new host. I hope Flash gets him back eventually though.

Venom Volume 2 by Rick Remender. Cullen Bunn replaces him after issue 22.
Two crossovers during the run. Circle of four, which is him teaming up with Red Hulk, X-23, and a female Ghost Rider to fight some demons. It's pretty good.
The second one is Minimum Carnage. It's him teaming up with another favorite character of mine, the Scarlet Spider. The crossover isn't great since it's mostly them just chasing Carnage in the microverse, but it has my two favorite characters, so I can't hate it.
He also joins the Thunderbolts and Secret Avengers. Only the Soule issues of Thunderbolts are good. Secret Avengers is pretty good though.
Also, after he joins the guardians, he gets another solo series called Venom: Spaceknight. It's a completely different kind of book, and some people don't like it because of that, but I do. It gets really good after the 6th issue, and picks up some plot points his old series ended with.
