Goddamn this game is such a drag to get through mandatory shit to the actually fun gameplay options, IX had all of its leisures and options at players' reach roughly at 1/5th mark just at the right moment. I just want to do optional challenging shit. If this didn't have DQ's name and was just another regular jRPG it'd be just dead on arrival.

Where's the fragment when the game says behind a door at the pool of piety? I went all the way to the divine shrine and didn't found any, yet the game still tells me i can find one.

Well I do appreciate the game for what it is but things could've been changed for remake, you know. And it's pretty fine that all the fun things are gated behind tedious entry level parts (the stories of every island are still top notch, mind you, I got no grudge against that) but what the hell is with lazy UI, fuck!? Every menu cursor input feels like it moves with a half-second delay, tons of sub-menu windows clogging, unrequired dialogues all making a single herb usage into a half-a-minute struggle.

Shop navigation is godawful as well, especially after you farmed Slimes for vocations and your party's pockets are filled with their hearts. Those things do not get moved into bag if one chooses an organize option (which is in fucking "Misc" instead of "Item" menu) and when you get to selling them one at a time shopkeeper asks everytime if you REALLY want to sell such a rare item (which you have dozens of already).

It could be an amazing game, streamlined UI and menus, sooner unlocks of vocations/monster taming/tablet dungeons and it would be a 10/10 RPG. As it is it's just a good game that feels like it tried to ruin itself with emphasized archaic unpolishness. Which makes one wonder real hard after everything that IX was.

I really liked DQ8 on the PS2.

But I got a feeling there were these very specific builds you were suppose to follow, and everything that deviated from that was wildly inferior.

It kinda' ruined it a little for me and I ended up dropping it because I simply did as some guide told me and it wasn't fun.

I can up PS2 DQ8's resolution like 8 times, then it blows the 3DS version out of the water again.

The 3ds is a fucking piece of garbage that makes the games worst for it. There's menu lag, even worse in some battle environments and the camera has to be zoomed it real fucking close since it couldn't take showing more.

See, they added a nice color filter on the 3DS one, which you totally can't add on PCSX2.

Citra is the promised one that will make much as it was suppose to be. I for one can't wait for Bravely Default to be played in non-eye-rape resolutions.

Bravely Default was designed for the low resolution though.

I also enjoy Chaos Rings 3, and most of the 3D Final Fantasy ports. I don't even pirate them, I buy them.

I haven't played 8 but from my experience playing 9 and looks like as long as you focus to invest in 1-2 weapons and not putting points into all weapons you'll be alright.

This. Every single game this. It does not matter a single nanofraction of a fuck what everyone else's stats are, as long as MC is ready to carry to victory.

DQ8 is probably the worst DQ port among them. And that's from someone who played through most of them.

Do you mean performance wise because I completely agree. I don't understand why a fairly old game like DQ8 feels so sluggish on what is equivalent to a supercomputer during the time the game first came out.
