People barely care about the singleplayer. But in the multiplayer you get to play as the British where everyone is subsaharan black or indian except for the support gunner, against the entirely white male turks, and the game even features black German soldiers, where German soliders were reportedly initially frightened when facing French colonial regiments of north Africans because they hadn't seen anything like them.

The multiplayer has character customization tho. You can just make your character white.

The thing is, is they could avoid all this backlash if they'd simply make skins map specific.

So, if you're playing a battle that featured Indian units, say, in the Middle East, then some of the class skins would be Indians. If you're playing a battle in Western Front as a Brit unit, then most or all of the skins would be whites. What also would be helpful if the loading screen gave a little blurb of the battle like they used to in the older games. So for example, this battle was when some Pajeet unit assaulted this place, etc.

What they have done is give you the choice to simply customize your character skin.

Most of the fighting during 1812 was done by the British Army and Navy. Canadians consisted mostly of Militia who fought other Militia men for no reason other than they were told to.
