So did the taru porter.

>using the filthy free tele-taru and not the silver peice one

>yfw fishing in mhaura

youtube.com/watch?v=eJaFB4fk3dQ

Listening to this OST always just makes me want to resub only to play and realize I'll never get those years back of playing through this game.

>use the free porter
>accidentally get TPed to valkurm

I like the guy. I have a soft spot for underdogs. The failed general test story beat always stuck with me.

Years well wasted to me. My only complaint is I can't get more of them.
Game I loved is gone. Community scattered to the winds.

More fun! I liked landing on top of that wall near Jeuno.

>Game I loved is gone. Community scattered to the winds.

I just wish that the blueprint for MMOs didn't have to all follow WoW. Felt so nice to play a relaxing MMO where you could just get lost in it for hours. Some hours I'd spend just doing literally nothing but wandering around and chatting.

I'm sure there are some MMOs out there like that, but so far I haven't been able to find any with that feeling.

No no no. You don't understand. Modern design states downtime is bad.
No time for serendipity. No time for interpersonal interaction born out of game situations. You must be pressing buttons for awesome at all times. Or communicating raw data for efficiency.
Everything that is not that should be expunged as much as possible for better Quality of Lifeā„¢ .

Damn you, put the OST back now...
youtube.com/watch?v=ECG5u_eMWZw

I still remember the sense of awe FF XI inspired in me. It felt like such a big world and even clearing quests made me feel like I had accomplished something. Having to silent oil and prism powder made areas feel dangerous. Riding the ferries was fun.

>made areas feel dangerous

Such an incredible aspect of this game was the feeling of danger in a lot of zones. A lot of monsters would fucking wreck you as you went on adventures.

In MMOs now you can just avoid monsters completely on mounts / flying mounts. There's no sense of game world or risk when traveling anymore

yeah the world being a hub rather than an actual place is why I stopped playing XIV
I can never get that experience of traveling to Jeuno from Valkurm Dunes with your exp party and some dude's level 75 friend escorting you again where like 3 people die along the way

Places aren't designed as space, but as traversal trajectories. Worlds aren't designed as worlds.
Convenience trumps verisimilitude.

...

World being hub is a good way to describe it.

Every since the introduction of queue type systems, every main town is now just a place to AFK and queue

...

...

I wish we could go back.

...

>yfw LL pops and you finally get your boots

It was my first NM and drop...that sense of excitement was unparalleled.

...

I remember doing the limit break quests and having to do all that Beastman base shit that was always intense as fuck because those areas could fuck even level 75 players that were helping you

Ninety something kills before a drop. I camped those boots so long, by the end players I had never even met were shouting encouragement passing me by.

I felt like such a kid going around Jeuno and some 75 finally sends you a whisper saying he'll help you out. Then you proceed to follow him around and he helps you find the coffer for your first piece of AF gear.

Only MMO that ever made me feel like I was going on actual adventures.

Yeah, people giving a hand were *giving a hand*. Taking a risk, not just babysitting you to power through.

>playing with bump mapping on

youtube.com/watch?v=1sTJ2irHVJg

God I always remember Batallia Downs in those rare occasions when the light comes out, and suddenly the gloom leaves it and for a short spell it feels vibrant again.
The people that worked on lightening on this game did an incredible job.

>Done with LS activities for the day
>Just walking through town
>Random guy strikes up a conversation just because why not
>Lots of people shouting for help with quests, say you'll help
>5 hours later you finish and come out of it with a great story and a new friend or two

good times man

youtube.com/watch?v=iesY1XssACM
youtube.com/watch?v=kzrmwcSizIY

They cared about every little detail, I played for something like 28,000 hours and there are things in the game world I never even saw, hell I don't even know if I saw it sunny in batallia.

>blocks your path.

>Garlaige citadel switches

Horror... has a face.

>Desert weight panels.

It's kinda eerie seeing everything so empty. It's also eerie knowing that a game that was this good now only exists as a memory. Good times though.

This will always stand as an incredible example of superstition in praxis.

>Attohwa mountain climb

youtube.com/watch?v=awrJZedon80

>The effect of sneak is about to wear off.

>climb to the top of that mountain in Chains of Promathia
>touched the wrong ???
>have to climb again

Too bad it seems the mobile FFXI is not doing as well as I'd hoped.

I would do absolutely anything for just an HD remaster of FFXI and release it today. I know it'd fail but fuck would I love it.

youtube.com/watch?v=6MWXndI77og

>Slide down the cliff in uleguerand range
>Miss the tunnel you had to land on

...

holy shit this STILL exists? Jeez, SE.

>mfw it all turned out to be real

I would love a way to just explore the world offline, even with no real game left, at this point.
Just knowing that I can rev up the game and reminisce it up, pilgrimize to places I love.

The idea that this will all disappear at the drop of a switch by people that don't give a fuck is another reason I'm never investing myself in another MMO ever again.

...

Same, if there was an easy way to just fire the game up and walk around it by yourself that's all I'd ever want. It hurts me to know that one day the world of vanadiel will disappear and that's it, no one can ever walk through those zones again.

Yeah. Riiiiiight.

>yfw nin tank in valkurm that couldnt afford utsusemi and was too lazy to grind it

Man get the fuck outta here

>took me a month to go from 73-75 on paladin because fucking ninjgers were popular tanks at the time
Still mad

youtube.com/watch?v=3LQ-iCZ2FnE

...

Final Fantasy XIV : Stormblood has all these great memories and more friends :)

And it has a Free Trial!

>Most useless map ever.
>In a shocking twist, this is good game design.

No. I don't want to speak ill of your game.
In fact I don't want to speak of your game.
Have fun, but just acknowledge it doesn't scratch the same itch at all and move on.

they really took this to an extreme in XIV 1.0 with the black shroud, except it was shit instead of fun

>Tfw spend all day forming an alliance for this fight
>Blackmages preparing to nuke the Mithra one at the start
>"brb changing my shirt" from lead blackmage
>we wipe

It was never confirmed to be real

That fight was so fucking intense/awesome.
I'll always cherish having the luck to do it before guidelines were set up.

Man, that definitely triggers some PTSD. Getting to Sea Serpent Grotto and then Norg through that dumb jungle pissed me off to no end, especially when you had a Chocobo and knew your time was limited.

Kneel before me!

In fact it was confirmed to be utter nonsense by devs during an interview.

>Camps by the town are full
>Head out into the jungle to some random spot to xp
>Eventually have to get a replacement party member out there
>Yeah bro we are right here, take a left then a right to the thing then this way and that way
>45 minutes later he still hasn't found us

Best game world ever.

>Face a god.
>As a fucking PUP.

>tfw doing all of CoP as it released before any nerfs or guides

unforgettable experience right there, what a blast

Is Ninja DD ever a thing?

was he 600 lbs or something?

I miss those days. The strats people came up for all the bosses was fun to. I remember the boss in one of the promyvions we'd all eat -VIT food like vitriol and qiqirn salad and then watch the boss steal all our food and nerf itself.

it didn't used to be but it is now, I mean its not really meta to group play, but nothing besides geomancers/corsairs/black mages are ever meta to group play in XI anymore

>waiting for airship
>someone else comes up
>you both board the airship
>have a little 5 minute chat about what you're up to
>both go on your merry way once it lands in jeuno

Best I get in games now is people saying hello and goodbye in dungeons that I queue for. Feels like I can never communicate with anyone outside of my own guild in MMOs anymore.

Definitely.

Can you imagine anything more badass?

>tfw someone fishes up the kraken

she was best girl right?

Very fond memories of being very angry. It took my LS two months just to clear the promys becuase of how organized you had to be when it first launched.

>always at least one guy who kept forgetting to clear his promy memory
Thanks for making us wait a half hour every fucking night guys.

>tfw pirates

GIVE ME SOME GOOD PRIVATE SERVERS

WITH PEOPLE IN THEM

>tfw he shows you how to get on the railing of the airship

>be low level on the ship for the first time
>all these people fishing
>pirates show up
>all the fishers swap on their endgame gear BTFO the pirates
game was so based

What are these from?

>Thinking you're hot shit now that you are 60 and have your full AF set.
>Zone to Valkurm to show the plebs some style.
>This guy is waiting by the zone to Selbina, a thousand dead bodies at his feet.
I was the guy that spawned/pulled him to the zone.

back when XI was active, someone made wallpaper out of generic background and put mobs from certain zones into them.
XI players would call them "XI HD pictures" or something like that.

>running through boy tree to help friend with ramuh
>afterwards decide it would be funny to spawn the sleepga II NM and train it back to the entrance
>it sleeps all the parties it passes and most of them wipe
>friend gets hate tells for the next 15 minutes
Sorry buckos but through fire you must be forged

anyone still playing at private servers?

>loading up the game for the first time as a 13 year old
>see this

youtube.com/watch?v=RA0B7JzF27M

Man...this game was my introduction into cat girls.

JP ONRY

youtube.com/watch?v=lpTaFgpGRGI

>manage to get into a JP xp party in qufim island
>all +1 / +2 gear, astral rings, rare/ex shit, etc

Those groups were always like completely different worlds. I would just stay silent and get my ass carried through zones in the blink of an eye.

>tank for JP parties
>do a good job and make a bunch of really useful friends
Being so community driven was really rewarding, it made you want to interact and treat people like humans instead of like bots like modern MMOs do

It was awesome how it worked the other way too. If you were an asshole cocksucker, you'd pretty much get exiled from the entire server. Your name would travel and you'd be blacklisted from everything.

I saw some fuckers pretty much have to swap servers because of this. It was hilarious.

The current devs of XI actually confirmed it was all a wive's tale about three years ago.

>get shell together to do this shit for our earrings
>wipe a bunch of times but suddenly we have it about to come together
>our ninja tank went afk to fucking make a bowl and we wipe
>shell leader loses his shit on him
Was the funniest shit I ever saw desu

I really miss pre abyssea era

The 75 era to WotG was the best

I want to go back

>The 75 era to WotG was the best
You mean the era where the game was completely stagnated for new content and WotG itself had no worthwhile endgame/HNMs until two years in?

If it weren't for ToA having brought in a fuckload of content that still remained relevant, XI would have dried up with WotG.

I thought Campaign was a fun concept

Was fun for the 5 or so times you do it in a different zone, then it became tedious.

>grind out your XP per minute in the first minute, then afk the rest of the campaign
>nothing changes physically in the zone if it's controlled by beastmen other than there are beastmen around the outpost now

Is XI worth resubbing for?

Hottest NPC

If you haven't played it in a while, I'd say absolutely. With Trusts, you can kind of solo a lot of the older content fairly easily. So you can experience probably 80% of the game on your own if you want.

only if you want to see the story

>mfw doing all 3 promyvions back when it was new content before any kind of nerf

...

Nah.

I rebought the game a few months back because it was on sale. It's nothing like it was before.

So whats XI like nowdays? is it still worth playing if you've never played it before?

>COP Launch day.
>Somehow managed to dl the data without any trouble, while half of my ls had a dozen fuck up and had to redo the 8h dl shit over and over.
>After much death and much hour wasted, reach the spire of Dem.
>Game crash, it was so bad that I had to redownload to datas.
>POL fucks up every 6h.
>took me 2 days before getting back into the game.
COP Launch day was something.

*bird noises you have to hear for 23849284 hours*

If you don't have Nirvana SMN you can't do shit

Seriously you can't do shit if you don't have one

Community's expectations of gear requirements to do endgame shit are retardedly high as if they expect everyone to have never stopped playing. Some jobs are unplayable period unless you just dedicate months of time to gearing them up
90% of the world is empty now which makes everything feel sad if you knew what it was like before
Old content is basically soloable because you can summon NPCs called trusts to help you

>have been camping VE for hours
>some random fag just came
>the mob pops just where he is

Fucking NM's where a nightmare

I missed out on this game because I had shit internet back then but always wanted to play it. Should I check it out for completionist sake or just play XIV?

What's a good solo class to start with?

1/43 and 1/39 for Quu Domi.
Then I made a second character after the rare/ex update and went 1/73 and 1/103.
THEN
I made a 3rd after stopping playing and went
1/46 and 1/80.
Fuck my life. I'm 1/15 and 1/10 on my latest private server.

XIV doesn't offer the experience of FFXI, but neither does modern FFXI

Thief or Warrior

That happened to me with mee deggi the punisher, or whatever drops ochiudo's kote back before they made EX version drops. I just ran in with a friend, we ran around the spire pool thing for like 10 minutes and it popped in my face. Got the drop. Campers were raging and telling us to fuck off

>This guy in ls that would just stumble on unclaimed NMs, or camp them for 15 mins and they'd pop right in front of him.
1/1 on Argus while doing some windurstian quest.

youtube.com/watch?v=yVYhcXmXSB0&t=

FF11 will always be my perfect MMO I will compare others too.
I'd give anything to go back and relive my years of playing it again.

That's because Gridania was, is, and will always be shit.

how the fuck?
Argus was littered with bots back in the day on my server.

...

Time to listen to the OST and bring back memories i had forgotten

I would say no myself, but it really depends on what you expect to find.
To me it felt like going back to your favorite spot in the woods nearby from when you were a kid, only to find out they built a mall over it.

That being said, for people that never could not finish the storylines, the trust system allows that. And that's not without value.

How the fuck indeed, to this day we're still pondering.
DOMMMAAARRUUUUUUU

>Too bad it seems the mobile FFXI is not doing as well as I'd hoped.

Wait... it's been released?

what server?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's JP ONRY.
Which would fuck them up as they make millions off their mobile game, or is it games now?

it has been out for like 2 years

...

Private? it was Legion before it closed.

are you in a new private?

Not the spin off (Final Fantasy Grandmasters), the actual FFXI mobile that was announced back in 2015.
I see nothing on that.

Bnet.cc

I am talknig about the mobile game

Any user on the Era private server?
I have nearly no experience in the game, I only know of what has been spoken in these threads.
Is anyone willing to help out a total newbie?

>shilling the shitty lazy reskin expansion
no...

I don't think we're talking about the same thing.

massivelyop.com/2017/08/11/the-final-fantasy-xi-mobile-version-hasnt-died/

The one thing I like the most about XI is that unlike XIV where people constantly steal your achievements and you just watch the actual cool shit happen in XI you actually get recognition

Also pic related totally wanted to fuck the player character in my headcanon

kys

You could just ask in this thread, or make a new thread whenever.

Found this, might help you out.
bg-wiki.com/bg/Quickstart_1-119_Guide

Sorry to say I can't help. Avoided private servers so far.
Good luck though.

...

>started in bastok

youtube.com/channel/UCKJ4a33wIHWadqXW7SP87aQ

Tavnazia must have been a comfy place to live in.

San d'Oria is unquestionably the best starting faction

don't even (you) me

That noise the mandies made when dying. Used to break my heart. Until I reached the Boyahda Tree. Fucking assholes deserve all they get!

Well thanks Anons. Also, when I unlock subjobs should I level one ASAP or no? Also what's a good subjob for PLD and RDM?

You'll get to see the story but that's it. It's more of a memorial to FFXI at this point than what the game used to be.

>PLD.
/WAR/NIN/DNC Those three are all you need really.
>RDM
/BLM/WHM/NIN/DNC Some would say SMN or SCH but those are for very rare situation.

I never did the quest but what was the purpose of those one mandies that were guarding a gate in the Boyahda Tree?

You should level up your subjobs before your main, because subjobs will always be half the level of your main job. So that means when you're leveling your main job your sub job will always stay on par and you don't have to switch back to sub to level it up to match your main.

Republic 4 lyfe

Seriously. I have never not been a Bastoker even once, over I don't even know how many years and multiple characters. Sandoria was full of normans and Windurst was full of hippies and gays.

>that one guy in the group who didn't get his swift belt
>that one guy in the group who didn't get his soboro

War for PLD seems like a no-brainer; gives you Provoke. Since you'll have to unlock paladin before using it, starting with WAR isn't a bad choice.
RDM is a bit harder. The versatility is good. Ultimately both WHM and BLM have their advantages, and as a starting sub, you can't go wrong with either.

[Flee sound activating in the distance]
The name of the guy that camped the shit out of it on your official server? What was it.
>Songoku

Ah, so if I were to main RDM, I should level WHM first, then switch to RDM?

Yup. One advantages WHM has over BLM is the teleports, and more importantly, easier time to group in general too.

GIVE ME TOP TIER PRIVATE SERVERS

...

I would fap to that mithra in Port Windurst that bent over naked at the dock.

...

that is a really stupid picture.

i don't understand this, is it supposed to be erotic?

it's pretty dumb.

...

I agree. Why I posted it. Same reason I posted:

the guy on the right accidentally fished her tail i thought it was supposed to be funny

>That guy with 10+ R/M/E weapons

Fucking NEETS

In a perfect knot, while the guy has a tight fishing line, but the line going to her tail is limp. Seems unlikely

...

>i know! i'll go onto a website for NEETs only and complain about them! I'm so clever!
what compels a normalfag to go to a website entirely full of people unlike them where they don't belong?

I defy anyone to pronounce that artist's last name.

>tfw played DRG and BST
>no party invites because loldrg
>get hated on for taking xp mobs on BST

life was suffering

...

What? He's on the other side of the pier. It's literally just a fake mithra fishing with her tail and everyone in proximity is having their minds blown by this.

>unlikely
thats why she has worried face and he looks shocked

holy shit are you me?
I used .dat mods to actually make her naked

Pfff BST and DRG were cool to party with.
Screw the haters.

...

>life was suffering
I dunno, on Bahamut BST were feared as fuck.
>Get pt invite to Crawlers' Nest, get there and see a fuckton of people outside.
>Zone into CN and see a fucking scorpion chilling at the zone.
>AFK BST just behind the bend, the guy was spying all the people zoning in and out for sit and giggle.
>After two hours of pt, thf hp drops rapidly and he's like "fuckfuckfuck" while out pulling.
>Fucker bring back the pull(linked) and the scorpion that was chilling at the zone.
>BST released the fucker, and while walking back to its spawn it met our thf.
>wipe, and BST comes and recharm the rapescorpion.
>Sorry, lol.
>doesn't raise our whm as he leaves, whm forced to hp, didn't reapply reraise and got punished for it.
Reach Kuftal Tunnel and again see that BST.
>Some pts would break when they saw a BST enter the zone.
Zoning MPK was wild.

Both were outpreformed by other classes in damage and utility in parties, and if the BST grabbed a pet, there was a EXP penalty as well. It wasn't optimal, so they weren't high on party priority.

I used to fap to poorly done animations of naked mithra with mods using the in-game models. It was basically SFM porn before SFM porn.

BSTs could do some dickish shit which is what made them hated by exp parties. which made BSTs automaticly hated on even if they did shit like charm links to save EXP parties from zoning or wiping.

Still played with them. Hell, I had a friend that experimented a lot on DRG post Pentathrust nerf and we managed to pull some pretty cool stuf in XP parties with DRG/WHM, completely forgoing a dedicated healer. Support healer only.

One of the reason a game like FFXI isn't really possible nowadays, modern interent has made the the following guide mentality prevalent.
XI itself barely escaped that for a small part of its existence. Was always a race during the release of new content.

youtube.com/watch?v=ntIsEkV-UEk
>yfw this is 11 years old.

...

>tumblr nose

...

...

...

>tfw you were that Hume a couple different times as the parties tank
To make matters worse I always either sold my old gear or put it away

Why the fuck is the OST so good?

It just is. Add the nostalgia factor on top to magnify it.
The double whammy of finally reaching that place after years of hinting at it, and of clearing those three promies at last, on top of how awesome the music itself is, makes it unforgettable to me.

youtube.com/watch?v=De2yLOOs4pE

It's a combonation of being a fantastic fucking OST and the fact that it's most likely burned into your memory from spending so much time in the game.

It's amazing how much emotion is triggered in me from hearing something as simple as the Windurst theme.

It just instantly throws me back in time and makes me feel like a kid on summer break again.

>we can never go back

FFXI was too good for this world. With the exception of the combat system, virtually every aspect of the game was perfect. And many of the best design decisions were dead simple, too. Scarcity of valuable items and limited AH slots as the core of a good economy, non-formulaic world layout (well, aside from the bastok/windurst/sandoria symmetry for early zones) and item design. One character per account, access to as many linkshells as you want, small-ish community sizes.

That last one is one I wish all MMOs would go for. People's characters being more persistent meant it was a lot easier to recognize random people you've played with before. Don't know how many times I got party invites specifically because the party lead recognized me from times we hung out months prior.

I wonder if the game got much worse after I finally left around 2010.

miqote are inferior, please refrain from posting them here

>With the exception of the combat system

And even then. A lot of the complaints people have against XI's combat were blessings in disguise.
For one some people don't like it being slow, forgetting on this allowed socialization *during* the parties.

Don't be mean.

Sorry. I do agree that mithra are better in every way.

I like the XI combat system. Parties actually TALKED because the combat wasn't for ADHD people who spammed 1,2,3 repeatedly in a braindead fashion.

sorry
thank you for understanding

...

youtube.com/watch?v=o-fJCr2ZGdw

Was there a better piece of armor than the RDM AF shorts?

im gonna give you a you in agreement

...

...

Was there ever a worse feeling then leveling down to 74 from 75 for melee or 50 from 51 for mages?

>Can you imagine anything more retarded?

ftfy

Leveling from 75 to 76.

Synonyms.

That one is for you, I guess.

>Bastok is just lame
>Windusrt is chill but awful design
>Sandy is bagpipes and aesthetic as fuck

Thankfully the Elvaan aren't cunts like they are in XIV.

Yes, the haubergeon

>For one some people don't like it being slow, forgetting on this allowed socialization *during* the parties.

This is what I loved most. I played FFXI and WoW during the same point of my life. However all of my WoW time was just spent logging in and raiding, and that's it. Any socializing would just be about the raid.

Playing FFXI was like immersing yourself completely in that world. I would just wander around sometimes and chat with people. The quality of time spent playing FFXI is something I've just never experienced in another MMO.

...

Literal years and this picture still does things to my dick that XIV art never will

...

...

yeah that's great where's the futa mithra

...

Hands down the best Mithra artist to arise in the age of XI.

I made my first friend in high school using FF11.

Shame they don't have more competition. A lot of the mithra art online is western and not very good.

I haven't played FFXI in 10 years but I still jack off to Mithra regularly

exhentai.org/g/258598/6b59689b5e/

This, this fucking broke my heart.

I'm glad enough with his image sets and the Kuroshiki line. Some god tier works only come along once in a blue moon.

...

>rotating the camera to the ground while waiting for the airship and pretending the mithra around were giantesses

...

God I'm so torn when it comes to these threads. Makes me want to resub to FFXI but I know I won't ever experience the same feeling.

Then I think of resubbing to FFXIV but I know I'll just get bored of the instance grind after a while. Guess it's a small price to pay to resub to FFXI for a month and just run around some zones for a bit.

I became a warrior main because of these two images

Is it really better than XIV?

XIV is boring as shit. You do your weeklies, maybe raid a few times and that's it. Every single patch is the same formula. Really disappointed in that game. The combat is dull too.

I think general consensus is it "was" better than FFXIV. And I agree by a fucking mile. However you aren't going to play it today and experience that same experience.

god dammit i already fapped twice today
dont do this to me

sadly not as good as besieged

the hype as fuck cutscene for besieged made it too good
youtube.com/watch?v=LrejacQVb3A

...

It was better. It's still enjoyable now but it's far past its prime and now acts much differently. You'll still have end-game shit to do with people but you can do nearly anything alone with a party of support NPCs now.

XIV is just terrible. Once the bells and whistles wear off, the content doesn't hold up and it only plays off nostalgia for FF.

...

XIV is also one of the most popular games for RP/ERP due to the dress up/emotes, etc action.

I'm still pissed it didn't just copy the cosmetic system from FFXI. They literally got it perfect.

The glamour system is garbage compared to it.

i play xiv but i hate how the art has next to no variation anything drawn by the japanese is just cats and lizards, anything drawn by americans is just cats and lizards with dicks

This is one of the strong points of XIV?
Not the combat system, the music or the world/lore. Nope, it's great for RP/ERP.

Shh, keep these a secret guys. DL them or make a copy for your own drive.

I mean... the music is just like any other FF game. The world is mostly bland and dead still.

And the combat is braindead WoW tier.

Also the PvP is AWFUL so that's definitely not a selling point.

allow me to play doubles advocate

i thought this thread was praising socialization, whats wrong with RP

One is talking, making friends, having fun. The other is cringy shit that devolves into ERP/edating.

having fun with your friends shouldn't be compared to "OwO whats this" type shit

RP is different than ERP. FFXIV is almost all ERP.

one is only "cringy" to you as an adult, have you ever considered the fact that kids might be RPing or memespouting or whatever

Never heard of a RP player that did missions/quest or did anything with people that didn't RP'd.
There had been a few shells that did RP in XI, those players never went past the 2-3 Dragon.

>kids might be RPing or memespouting or whatever
thats even worse

I had fun on Nasomi for awhile.
No idea how it is doing now, endgame was so cancerous it made me stop playing, but can be fun until then.

>"adult" who cringes at kids
cringe

>tfw your mithra girlfriend uses a mini spell on you
>drops you in her smelly boots

more

Case in point, I never heard of one of the RP shells doing an event like rescuing the chocobo lady after she got abducted by the Mamool.
I heard quite a lot of shouts for alliance looking for people willing to waste time and get her back.

Thanks friend

Devil's advocate, user.

Get out. Don't ruin XI or MIthra with your bullshit.

I want more fetish content

You should play XIV.

IS there anything modern out there like XI? -Will- there ever be anything out there like XI again? Would the prevalence of social media and widespread internet usage even allow a community like XI's to ever sprout again?

I hear DQX is basically XI-2 but we're never getting it so

DQ:X

Mhuara became a major hangout again when I played last year. I forget what the fights are called, but they're fun/rewarding.

Why?

Fetishists are the cancer that killed the subtle nuances of ERP. Everyone's just a three dick headed asshole rimming futa monster now and everyone's out to one up eachother. It's fucking awful, people have no concept of normalcy.

Ambuscade.

No DQ:X hurts my soul.

Looking for advice if possible, since I recently upgraded to a Windows 10 laptop and the game ran like complete shit to the point that PS2 version was superior. I was running through Windower having massive delay of like 3-5 seconds for input and frames dropping down to about 10-12 in heavy combat, and getting just a bit better running around in towns. Even uncapping the FPS didn't do anything outside of making my moghouse run at about 57 FPS.

Am I fucked, or can it be fixed?

The FFXI formula just wouldn't be financially viable. The slow pace of it just wouldn't be able to draw crowds. And it only was the way that it was because there wasn't a queue system or a lot of mounted travel outside of chocobos in some areas.

If you're making an MMO now you need dungeon queues, mounts, flying mounts...it just wouldn't be possible.

>The FFXI formula just wouldn't be financially viable

Why not? I mean heck, XI is still making money. Someone just needs to keep an even headed budget in mind and make something that will strongly appeal to a niche that will pay them forver since there's no alternatives

The problem with MMO's are the ridiculously over inflated budgets

>Fetishists are the cancer that killed the subtle nuances of ERP. Everyone's just a three dick headed asshole rimming futa monster now

I'm just into giantess/shrinking with some foot fun. Vore every now and then.

fuck off renko

Why were all the best vidya OSTs from late 90s to mid 2000s? Did better audio hardware in gen seven make composers lazy?

There's nothing wrong with RP. It's fun, but it's not the same as socializing with someone.
Then you have the issue listed here, That most people playing FFXIV for the RP only do it to ERP. 90% of RP encounters will try to be turned into a ERP. Of the remaining 10%, half is people who think their character is some special snowflake.
I should know as I reguraly RP on FFXIV. Trying to find the remaining 5% of people who are actually good at RP and don't just want to make every encounter into ERP is nearly impossible.

qt c@
I wish we could go flatter

>laptop
But it's mostly Win10 being a dick and choking at how the game run.
What's your cpu like?

>she'll never smother your entire body under her sole, gently pressing against a soft pillow

It'd be like a body massage

Whoa I didn't say anything about feet

I think it's possible that the formula is still viable, but only as a niche, as opposed to how XI was a product of its time and aped a lot off of Everquest (similar to how XIV has borrowed a fair deal from its competition and refined it for XIV)

XI is a living world with and without players, as there will always be real time boats and airships going about, fish that are easier to catch in certain times of day, weather unique to regions and zones, as well as even simpler mundane aspects as the lighting of the lamps in Lower Jeuno via players or NPCs. Even NPCs closing on holidays and certain days / hours is more than most games would ever try, and that is the real stuff that makes XI engaging and realistic, despite being a skinner box at the core.

Stuff like faster travel should be a reward more than right, such as if someone would want a tele, it means they either have to take a mage up or craft / quest a tele-ring, or pay another player / NPC for it, but the option to run through the areas leading to that spot one wishes to go to is still an option. The only real difference these days is that XI would have had a real boon for stuff like porter NPCs that could have had Chocobo carriages through places like Windy to Jeuno for a price of gil and automated the travel process at the expense of gil & time. Perhaps preset Black Chocobo flight paths if the graphics woldn't break after a certain point in the air, but that's a non-issue for a more modern game.

Should be brand new, as it's an i7-7700HQ running with a GTX 1060 6 GB, which should be destroying the game with how overkill the specs are.

I just think making video games is seen as a business. Why put development time into a game built for a very specific niche, when you can crap out another WoW themepark MMO and sell cosmetics and make 10x the profit.

I just think it would be too difficult to pitch this to a publisher and get funding for a game like FFXI.

Well I don't even know what you said so I'm just ERP'ing with myself

user, we live in an era where major publishers are forever stuck in the unhealthy cycle of AAA releases that cost so much time and money that they HAVE to sell millions in order to recoup the investment in a never-ending cycle, and then we have indie devs that are able to fill in the rest of the gaming needs, since not every game needs to sell gangbusters to turn a profit.

The reason a game like XI would need a publisher and the funds is if one wants to go into the grand scale of a 15+ year product at day one, when it's perfectly reasonable to have stuff like losing exp & leveling down along with the rest as a result of just having game mechanics to keep the game engaging. Play it off as "Your character was beaten up good and had to rest for awhile, meaning more training to catch back up to where they were at" and boom, explained it away ingame while still having something that gnaws at the player's psyche to not only improve, but to validate "just a bit more grinding", meaning that much more player retention.

I said the cat was cute and I wish we had better ranges on the breast slider. I want flat chests and huge tits.
Also I want 1.0 butts back

> i7-7700HQ
XI doesn't care about the GPU, it's all about the CPU and yours is 2.8Ghz while XI require 2,4Ghz.
Turbo mode doesn't "work" on XI so you cannot boost the CPU that way, only by overclocking.
>overclocking a laptop.
The real culprit is one or many of Windows 10 update fucking up the system.
That's right, to enjoy FFXI you'll have to find which "update" is fucking it up and then rollback to a state without that/those update.
Or downgrade to Windows 7.
In any case, it sucks to be you.

WoW clones don't have too good a history of being profitable either though.

I'm honestly amazed so many companies go ahead with trying to make copies in over saturated genres still.

Sounds like my time in Vana is finally over, then, unless I build a new PC with a stronger CPU.

Thanks for clearing it up for me

If your laptop is brand new, partition your disk and slap Win 7 in there and play your vidya with 7 and shitpost on 10.

>Or upgrade to Windows 7.

Solid advice.

>there was a Hume female on my server named Trinity
>everytime our LS saw her we'd walk up and say "I am Neo"
she got so pissed, went on for years

Valkrum Dunes was the best zone.

I wish the Trust system was just filling in with fake player characters. I want to make a group of 5 NPCs that I can gear out, do their job quests, get their AF, etc.

Just let me play pretend with a group of friends and allow me to dream of my past life in FFXI...

I play on era, been there for years. It rules. You on there now?

FFXI runs like ass on laptops because Nvidia killed support for DX8 games and other shit on laptops. You need to use the Ashita launcher instead of Windower and download the Direct3D8 to Direct3D9 Proxy.

Barely making my character user. What city should I start in? Playing a mithra.

Mithra gets a ring if they start in Windurst. I don't like that city though

Also post your character name, I'll hit you up in game

I think they were holding the father of the Windurst brother and sister in the card place. Apururu was the sister, I think. I don't remember why he was being held there, though.

Alright, starting in d'Oria since I like the aesthetics, ring be damned. Look for a Anglis.

Rock on. I'll be on in a couple minutes

I can't seem to reinstall XI on my W10 machine, complains about not being able to find the POL .msi despite pointing to the right folder.

How fun is Corsair?

This set is literally my fetish

Pretty fun, and people love their buffs, so you'll get parties. Their weaponskills are also pretty good.

Any way to play the pre 99 ffxi era?

Play on the Era private server

The funnest jobs in the game are Scholar, Blue Mage, Puppetmaster and Dancer in that order.

Honestly I'd play on a private server but none of them are working to full capacity, with a bunch of broken shit, and more importantly, none of them have either Blue Mage working properly or Scholar.

link?

ffera.com

Why do you guys do this to me? Why do you make these threads? I miss FFXI so much, I just want to forget it ever existed though. That game sucked the life out of me. Fucking destroyed relationships (though it was my fault, the game was only a vector for that to occur).

This game is probably the reason I'm still alone to this day. It destroyed my grades in high school because I did nothing but play it all day every day. Destroyed relationships with friends I had IRL in order to have relationships with my virtual friends in the game. I spend thousands upon thousands of hours playing this game for nothing, yet I still am so nostalgic for it. The music, the friendships... etc. Fuck I miss this game. Nothing else like it out there. Nothing.

Ambuscade. It's content that changes every month and it's where you make money if you aren't a crafter. Also good way to get good gear that is il119 that is pretty much used for a load of things, whether accuracy sets, or WS sets, or w/e.

lolpup. No one plays DNC. Everyone is a fucking BLU these days because of how you can make money soloing shit like NNI. BLU is a good DD too, but my god there's so many of them and you need some really good gear to be a top DD BLU, like ultimate weapons are necessity, though they are for every job these days outside of maybe WHM and SCH.

SCH is fun though, you can solo so much stuff as SCH if you're well geared with Trusts, even high level NMs in Escha.

how much people?

I haven't played in almost a year. Has SMN been nerfed yet?

Peak times are like 150+. Not as many as the biggest private server out there but era is cooler

>cooler

tell me why?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I haven't played on era in a few years, but the lag was so shit last time I tried to play. Wonder if it was ever fixed.

ERP faggots need to be rounded up and killed.

JP ONRY

More functionality and QoL to make the game playable by smaller playerbases that are natural to private servers of niche moms. Also more options; by default the game has 4x exp but if you want to play with vanilla rates you can turn that on. Also puppet master works which is not true on all private servers

>Not as many as the biggest private server out there but era is cooler
I haven't played Nasomi in about half a year.

Anyone know if the endgame is still as bad?
It was all nothing but BLM spam or Kclub DRK zerg and competing with people that got relics and rare gear before fixes everywhere you had to try to compete against.

So that's a no? That's one of the main reasons I quit last time I played. I had WHM, SCH, MNK, BLM all il119 geared out, but I could never find anyone that would help me get past NMs like the T3-4 Escha NMs in Reisenjima or Warder of Courage.

The only way I ever saw people beating those NMs was using 4-5 SMNs and a tank / WHM and spamming conduit and blood pacts to kill it in a few minutes, assuming the tank didn't die at least.

Then, when they failed, you had to farm an entire new pop set which took hours / days, especially for WoC. Fuck that game, I just wanted to build one Aeonic.

No nerfs yet

If you don't have a nirvana smn you're shit

Yeah the lag was fixed as well as server uptime and crash issues. It's way better now
Kclub drkzerg is a problem with ffxi more than the server

This is my dream game. Well that's lie, my dream game is 2005 retail FFXI, but this would be an acceptable substitute

wtf that's me...

>QoL

Meh.

Too bad only 150 play it. I wish I could go back/someone would make a real fucking MMO again. And don't say DQX because I've played it extensively and it's not even close.

Yeah, but BLM were much stronger there at the time than they were even back in retail.
Enemies spamming TP moves did not help either in their popularity I suppose.
Groups would be nothing but tanks, heals, 2 melee to do nothing but SC and turn away or one sam to self level 3 and the rest BLM.

There are a lot more than 150 people who play on the server, that's just how many you see on at once during the highest traffic time of day.

Back in retail you would /sea all and get a result of anywhere between 1~3k, depending on the day and time.

I'm well aware of that. Non-weekends were typically 1500ish on Behemoth back in the days. 150 is still nothing though, really.

who was your expansion-fu Cred Forums?
>Prishe
>Lilisette
>Nashmeira
>Lion

...

...

No such thing.

>You have been a naught taru

>you can never go back

I WISH THAT I COULD TURN BACK TIME

Honestly I liked Prishe the best. Past that it just got weird every time a new waifu character popped up.

>SAM isn't part of endgame meta and won't get parties

So much for coming back to FFXI for me

SAM is one of the best DD in the game in XI. What're you talking about?

Nasomi is ur best bet. Best private server hands down, with largest pop. and economy. As I type this 600 online.

I was told only GEO/BLM/SCH/COR are the core of everything now and the rest fucks off

Because Ambuscade is a month-to-month change in requirement, there are some that are always wanted but SAM is hands-down the best melee DD still. It's abilities + SC capability + burst helps in every situations.

Did that clown ever get over himself?

Optimus is fucking you. It relegates ffxi to your integrated graphics. Download dgvoodoo (the ffxi patched one) to fix it. It'll put xi in dx11 which fixes a ton of issues and makes the game smoother/faster

Oy user, if you're still on, sorry for leaving such abruptly. Game crashed, and I had to go anyways.
Thanks for helping me out, see ya tomorrow.

so is starting now a good idea or is it too late?

Lufaise Meadows ost was something else.

Who cares. A community is stronger than its weakest link. The fact is that the Nasomi server had the biggest population and the most vanilla gameplay. It's the place to be, I don't see why people fixate on one guy.

Because he runs the server, and has made numerous decisions that the vast majority of the community disagreed with. Not to mention he gifted original players all the relics and advantages they'd ever need, inhibiting anyone outside of that group from even truly competing.

Not to mention the guy's an asshole.

>be 15 in 2004
>spring break in march was also ffxi ps2 launch week
>ask mom to get it for me, she actually does. comes home from walmart with that huge box
>overwhelmed with all pamphlets but fire up immediately
>dial up aol. actually goes surprisingly well
>spend the whole week playing, get real lucky with a linkshell and power leveled
>awesome schedule set up and just tagged along with several groups. got the grand tour.

had i known that ps2 could actually be a desktop pc from browsing, i wouldve taken better care of it.

>power leveled as soon as you started

Get out.

>Not to mention he gifted original players all the relics and advantages they'd ever need,
Huh. Well that is homogay, I didn't realise that.
>inhibiting anyone outside of that group from even truly competing.
But what do you mean by this? It's not a competative game. Some cheating wankers who got their stuff by sucking dick can't ruin it for the rest of us who are playing properly.

When you can't HNM or do any of the high-end shit because there's 18 fully decked out relic wielding assholes, it sucks man. Not to say the entire game is ruined because of this, but it really does suck.

People go to nasomi because they think player count means best gameplay experience but that's pretty wrong

Especially since in actual moment-to-moment play, FFXI isn't *massively* multiplayer. An alliance is al it takes. The economy, and the overall liveliness of the world needs a bigger population, but between two servers that lack the kind of numbers to bring that to satisfying level, better the one with less but better people.

Well right now PLD is the main tank again and NIN not only cant tank but also one of the most useless jobs in the game

People go to Nasomi because it's just a better playing experience than some server with high exp multipliers and other custom wankery to ruin the game. It's not that high population means the best gameplay experience, it's that best gameplay experience causes a high populaton.
