VC1 definitely had anime tropes, and anyone who says otherwise is deluded. The difference is that those tropes never outshown the general tone and setting of the game.

Compare the beach scene of VC1 to the pool scene of VC2 for a perfect example. Both are clearly there for fanservice, but the scene in VC1 is at least still plausible in the world they've created. The scene in VC2 is so over the top that it completely breaks immersion.

It wasn't canon to the story. What basically happens in this doujin is the MC and all the girls on the cover go to the beach to hang out. After some pages they end up ditching the far right girl and the MC fucks the others in some room, and that's the story. Raita made a "what-if?" mini story of the girl in the far right getting molested by some guys at the beach while she's by herself, and then gangbanged. It doesn't really happen but it was Raita's "what if the MC got ntr'd because he left her alone to have sex with other girls?".

I'm basically liking everything is see/hear about the VC4 except the fact that the main characters don't wear matching uniforms. They're not in full-on anime-retarded clownsuits like in Revolution, but they try to look too much like unique snowflakes for me to take them seriously as a military organization.

Still, at least it's a huge jump in the right direction.

There were some minor differences like Rose showing midriff and Alicia having her head thingy and Isara her gypsyscarf, but mostly they all wore the same exact uniform with only a couple variants for men and women (with skirt or pants, with or without armor plates). These ones look like they're actually just wearing different uniforms.

It's too bad that you'll have to kill both of them by the end.

Historically, matching uniforms are a modernish development. Still looks strange in VC's setting since it's riffing off of the World Wars so much.

Call it a meme all you want but Youjo Senki was pretty gritty. I mean nuking a village for the hell of it after making a prank call while saying they should evacuate so you kill everyone there. Slaughtering enemy soldiers who didn't even have the means to fight the MC's troops. The desperation of trying to get out of the battle field and get a cushy desk job so she doesn't get killed. I mean they do gritty fine its all a matter of what the team feels like doing. Some love the strategic parts of military and aren't big on the gritty nature of war. Some love that kind of stuff they kill characters by the thousands as a joke.
