Yakuza

>the combat isn't sluggish trash, just unlock that countermove that oneshots enemies.

Sure, it's good but why do people make it sound like it's amazing? Is it because of the beggars (PC)?

>Sure, it's good but why do people make it sound like it's amazing?
Not sure anybody says the combat is "amazing," but I don't want to argue semantics. It's a decent series.

the combat is not good by any means
although it can still feel very satisfying at times

Yakuza 0 >>>>>>>>>> Yakuza: Kiwami.

Yakuza 0 is basically all of the best themes from the series, put into an original story. Kiwami is a modern day port of the extremely flawed Yakuza 1.

the combat has never been anything particularly deep or amazing. It's more flash than substance, but the enjoyment comes from the stories and the activities surrounding the game. The combat itself isn't the main draw.

people enjoy yakuza combat because of the visual and sound cues that make it feel very satisfying to smash an entire bike on some thugs head so hard that bike shatters into bits, not the especially deep combat mechanics (although the better games do have stuff that requires you to get a little good if you want to mess around with it)

the game is way more of an RPG than a real brawler, its probaly the one way in which it doesn't surpass shenmue (which had very rare combat but was working on a modified virtua fighter engine)

>replay Yakuza 5
>have a blast with Kiryu, still love the Taxi driving
>Saejima starts
>literally two hours of cutscenes interspersed with five minutes of running around a prison yard
>do the hunting, at least now it's getting a bit more interesting
>tsukimino and the hunting village are pretty comfy too
>remember what comes afterwards
I wanted to go through all the games again before Y6 releases, but I shut the PS3 off now and popped Y0 into my PS4. I don't remember 5 being this bad, fuck.

>play like majima would in total war shogun
>win every time
Any other strats you guys would recommend?

I'm at the hunting part and am enjoying it quite a bit. The story at the prison was good but it took pretty long. Is the rest that bad?

It's okay, the endless cutscenes are just really grating on a second playthrough. Like I said, I don't remember it that bad.

95% chance that you will hate Part 3. But push through, because Part 4 gets quite a lot better.

It has an arcade simplicity to it but the visual/sound design make it feel good. I don't think any other series out there come close to it in terms of CQC combat. Batman plays like shit, and Sleeping Dogs is alright but not as fleshed out.

The game is fun man. It's about the combination of the combat, activities, setting, story, and humor. I've played 0 and kiwami and based on that its 10/10

LOL

mushi mushi

It's been a while but I'd say that Sleeping Dogs had a much better/fluent combat

>the game is way more of an RPG than a real brawler
Makes kinda sense I think.
> the better games
Which are the better games? I thought about emulating 2 or getting 0
or waiting for Kiwami2

Not denying it isn't good but since the combat/brawling is kinda the main gameplay element, I was just expecting better.
Story was good too until the very end where everything feels lazy/rushed just to get some dramatic shock moments. This is past that but I'm pissed that they abandoned the dog.
Which game has the "rubberbullet" reference I sometimes see?
Why did Nishikiyama kill the boss again? Also felt a bit weird that he'd abandon Kiryu. I understand his change but still.

Why on earth would you play Kiwami first.

you probably haven't played the other games or know much about them so don't read this if you don't want to be spoiled.
in 2 there's a substory where kiryu helps support sunshine orphanage by donating money and dealing with builders trying to scam them. During the substory, the headmistress mentions one of the kids isn't really interacting with anyone and kiryu finds out he used to take care of animals in his class. So as a result,
kiryu finds the dog from kiwami (which a homeless dude from purgatory had been taking care of), and sends it to sunshine orphanage where everyone loves it

>Sleeping Dogs
>better combat
Listen, Sleeping Dogs has an unpolished charm to it, but the combat was copy paste garbage. Not to mention some of the basic, underlying mechanics (arsenal consisting of light attacks, heavy attacks, throws) are the same.

On top of that, Yakuza has, after Y3, introduced new characters and new fighting styles for old characters that liven up the brawling. I don't understand how you can make the case that Sleeping Dogs has superior combat.

Nishiki killed Dojima because the old fart made advances on Yumi. Yakuza 4 is the one with rubber bullets. Story isn't really that good in any of the games if you ask me, it's the characters, and those were arguably pretty meh in Y1. Y2 starts introducing some great ones, and makes a bit more of the old cast from Y1.

>Sunshine
I think you mean Sunflower.

shit
I get these fucking names mixed up all the time
I really wish the localization team for 3 had just left it as Asagao if they didn't think us baka gaijin were mature enough to handle it being called Morning Glory.

I probably would have, too, if I hadn't just played through 2 and 3 a week ago.

Localisation... yeah, fun times, reading about the "Fuma" family for 3 games, yet never hearing the name said by VAs. All because Kazama and Kazuma are very similar names.

Because that would make the plot of this series confusing.

Wouldn't want that.

Because it's a remake of 1?
I'm aware that I probably missed a few references, especially to 0 (Pocket Circuit was kinda obvious)

I played Sleeping Dogs when it released (~6 years ago), so my memory is a bit hazy. I made it sound like a statement which wasn't my intention.

I can use Premium Adventure mode to finish substories, right?
Should I do that or should I save it for NG+ Legend or clear data of that?

You can't NG+ Legend difficulty. Legend requires no savegame carry-over. Yes, you can use Premium Adventure to finish side content for CP and trophies. Your call whether you want to go for that or would rather keep the substories unplayed for a Legend run, because you might get sick of them if you do them twice in quick succession.

nah in kiwami you can carry your save over to legend. It's only 0 that doesn't let you (for some absurd reason)

Ah, my bad. Outed myself as just having started my Legend run for Y0.

Really looking forward to that Makoto escorting shit...

that webm lol

>Really looking forward to that Makoto escorting shit...
it's not that bad honestly.
just go with breaker since it's the most efficient for that kind of situation.

Yeah why are you even comparing the two then if you just stated the obvious.

0 is the best in the franchise by a country mile and it's not even fair, shock and horror a 10 year old port can't hold up too it.

Combat is not really that good, but it's satisfying. Especially the heat moves
Also lots of side content, like sub missions and comfy minigames

Is Premium Adventure just there for finishing all the side content, being able to walk with Haruka whenever I want and wear different costumes?
Too bad you can't do the latter in the "main game"

I'm glad someone liked it, I posted it in the last thread but only got it finished when the thread was half-dead.

You're probably right. Not like Y0 was a particularly difficult one.

>go with breaker since it's the most efficient for that kind of situation
Or any situation, really. Slugger's always available heat move is fantastic too, though.

arent all of kiryu's guns airshit?

Isn't it getting posted in pretty much every thread?

I doubt it, since I made it yesterday. Perhaps there's a similar one floating around

Sunao ni I LOVE YOU

Any more Yakuza webms?

What's the best Karaoke song and why is it Ring with Riku/Kiryu

I've made some from the Y4 boss fights and still have some raw recordings from Y5 lying on my hard drive (Kiryu gauntlet at the pier, Saejima side quest with Sodachi and the slip & slide ramen delivery).

Oh, I guess it's because that scene gets posted often.
Anyways I saved it from the time you posted but didn't reply if that's worth something

>if that's worth something
It is.

yakuza 4 will always be the best yakuza game

Funny, you misspelled Akiyama's Bakamitai.

Hmm, dunno. It's one of the better ones for sure.

>>play like majima would in total war shogun

What do you mean by that?

Pretending to be retarded I guess

Saturn or Dreamcast games ingame when

>starting Y0 on Legend
>get to reassemble my Cabaret Club as Majima
I know everybody hated it, I love it. Stoked that it's back for Kiwami 2, though I haven't seen how exactly that works yet.

>full Shenmue game in Yakuza

People hated the cabaret club mini game?

It's honestly my fav mini game in all the games.

it's literally the exact same as 0, except it's even easier because at some point (around the second rival battle for me) there would be this guy who'd show up at the end of each service and if you spammed square hard enough you'd get nearly 100,000 right then and there.
At least, I think it's 100,000. I'm still not entirely 100% on how the money system is displayed in the japanese releases

>People hated the cabaret club mini game?
Probably not enough, seeing as Sega brought it back for Kiwami 2. But in these threads, I don't see anything but negative reactions to Cabaret Club Czar. Hostess Maker even more so, but that one I can sort of understand.

I see. What I meant was, who owns the club? Still Majima? Wasn't the Majima-controlled section to be extremely short or something? I'm not that well-informed on Kiwami 2.

Japanese and Koreans don't split in thousands like we do, they split in ten thousands. I think.

oh right. Yuki owns the club, she starts getting into the management side of things because majima just fucking disappeared one day and she thought he died. When kiryu meets her,
the club is going downhill fast, making barely any money and in danger of being shut down,
so yuki decided to take their last chance,
which is to compete in the Cabaret Club GP.
If they win, they'll obviously survive but if they lose they're pretty much fucked. Kiryu is impressed by her determination or something and agrees to help them out.
Majima doesn't show up until the final rival battle against Kirara, where he outs the announcer as a spy (still not entirely sure why this would matter since the rivals keep coming to the fucking club and know your lineup since half of them are platinum hostesses from the other rival battles) but then he runs away and majima takes over as the announcer for the final battle and every service after.

Sweet, thanks for the info. Can't wait for a localisation announcement. Should just study runes properly one day...

(not my webm this time, all out of material)

That chick seems familiar

NO WAY FAG!

yeah you might recognize her from somewhere
javfor.me/actress/kirara-asuka

Kirara Asuka, the Japanese alien.

>"my feet hurts."
>"why is this girl undressing?"
>"i just want to drive my taxi."
>"why is she hugging me?"
>"the room smells funny."
>"i wonder what Haruka is doing right now".

Oh yeah. I only watched her "fan" stuff though.

What is she doing there?
Also weird, you'd think she's sick of sausages

Combat is really fucking bad, actually. Like 99% of these types of games. Beat 'em ups were never about stylized combat. It was about cheesing the enemy.
Streets of Rage 1: jump kick. SoR2: Axel or Max with their f,f+b. SoR3: jump kick.
Final Fight 1 -3: Guy plus running + jump kick.

Yakuza is just a 3D version. Sure, you can unlock more moves and use them all but there's no point.
Just get max heat then do a heat move and repeat

>you'd think she's sick of sausages
Good joke, but JAV actresses constantly pose with sausages and other phallic food on their Twitter.

what are you own about? i loved Cabaret Club. shit was addicting.

youtube.com/watch?v=q7gzFBnfRfo

Nice to see it wasn't received as negatively as I thought.

What I really want is a Yakuza strategy/tycoon game. Instead of a grunt like Kiryu, you play as somebody with ambitions in the underworld. You pick businesses you want to take over, extort protection money from them, recruit new henchmen, and forge plots as you rise through the ladder of a local loan shark's business, then a family, then a clan as you start your own family. Plenty of options for running businesses yourself, could tie in nicely with things like Cabaret Club Czar already.

Will never happen, but let me dream.

Is Clan Creator any good? I only saw that 30 minute demo ages ago. Looked terrible, honestly. Like you just picked a squad of people and let the AI duke it out. Pretty much a mobile game.

that's pretty much all you do. I can only comment on what kiwami 2 does, but I imagine it's either the same or worse in 6.
You literally just stick people vaguely around the thing you're protecting and then just let it play out. Sometimes there will be multiple things to protect but then you just send a couple people over there and let them fight it out. At most you just have to keep an eye on your team's health and level them up to restore their health when they're about to go down. There's only a couple abilities that are actually useful, usually shit like large scale stuns, a facility restoration move, damage up and defence up.

Disappointing, but not unexpected. Thanks, japnon.

>tfw no pc ports ever

I will play 6 without ever playing 3, 4 or 5 and you won't stop me!

CUT IT OUT, user

So which Yakuza is the best? I want to get into this series but I’m not sure where to start.

If you're determined to play through the whole series: release order

If you're uncertain whether you'll like it: Yakuza 0.

Okay then thanks.
