>add new fan control
>pc suddenly crashes every time I do something mildly demanding
It instantly crashes and doesn't freeze, so it's probably not overheating. Before I installed it, only one fan was working, but I could still play mildly demanding games like Civ 5 without any problems.
All 3 fans are set to maximum power.
Thanks in advance!

what kind of fan control?
most likely your powersupply is shit

Why does qbittorrent use so much ram?

>inb4 unused ram is wasted ram
just look at pic related

Any idea how to change the lock screen wallpaper on my Note 3 with CM 12.1 and Nova Launcher?

It's a NZXT Mix 2.
The power supply could probably be it since it's pretty old and the 1070 drains many wattsso I'll get a new one then.
Thanks for the advice!

I need the cheapest cpu (and motherboard) that won't bottleneck gtx 970. What should i get?

actually 1070W drains very few wattso
and if it happens even on idle then its not really the watt part

but still it could be just shitty psu, reacting to some sudden spikes from fan controller, but dunno, those things take really really low wattage

but if you got 1070 there should be no problem getting some 450W seasonic

$65 - random gigabyte mobo H chipset
$180 - 5-4460 or some such, needs 4 intel cores, 3+ ghz

Is it possible to change the win7 date in the taskbar to something completely custom like
0 260 016.M03
0 = single number
space
260 = day of the year
space
016 = fraction of the year
dot
M = letter
03 = millenium

How do I get:

A certain 'status' to be the color green?

Forgot to mention, this is an output from an SQL 2008 database. Not sure if that's relevant.

Fuck that whiney baby-back bitch and his stuttery bitch of a son.
HAHAHAHAH

Rii-Rrii-ck

Where should I get a cheap or free domain name?
Is there someplace I can buy one and own it, or do all domain names need to be renewed?

To clarify, I want the domain for use on my own server, not hosted somewhere

If I let the PCI-e network card go idle for more than 2.74 seconds, it goes to sleep and I either have to wait 30 minutes for it to turn back on, or disable then enable wifi (zero pause, just comes right back up with no delay; even still says "Skynet 2.4" as if it's actually working). I've set lenovo powersaving options to NOT put the network card to sleep, NOT pull power from PCI-e buses. I've went into the BIOS and done the exact same thing, I've updated all the drivers (several times), reinstalled, and still run into the same problem. Anyone else wrestle with this fucktarded problem?
I had to reset wifi connection before I could post this shitpost, if that gives anons an idea of how quickly the problem decides to fuck me over.

So, I have this setup. One computer running on Windows 10 and the other one is running on Arch Linux. I have movies and tv series on my Windows machine and I want to play them on Arch. I tried Plex but it is fucking awful (No native Linux program, only Web UI). Btw, these computers are on the same network.

What are my other options?

not win10
thats ur problem

Add support for SMB on linux and double-click to play the file, no ?

Can sh into random?

I'm trying to write a shell script that will randomly choose between two fortune binaries and only print the output if it is a single line with less than 80 chars and continue looping until it achieves the correct output. It must be Bourne shell compliant. I know this will require piping to wc(1) and probably cut(1) or awk(1) as well.

You mean samba? If that's what you meant, yeah I tried that and forgot to say. I put both computers on the same workgroup and it keeps asking password when I try to reach my Windows computer eventhough I turned off password sharing. I probably fucked up on somewhere, but I am not sure where exactly.

ping somewhere every 2sec. problem bypassed

Write caching?

>set up Windows share (SMB)
>install samba client on Linux
>go to smb:// in linux

I'm just seeding though

Read caching
But seriously, I have no idea

Same thing. I shared my folder on Windows with everyone. I don't have any password set and it keeps asking username, domain and password.

Well, set the win user with simple password + no domain, if it asks for password, ur close.

If you're on Windows why aren't you using uTorrent 2.2.1?

Why is this not building?
Firefox-nightly
mozconfig is in the base dir
Im trying to copy it to the src dir for compiling
cp ../mozconfig mozconfig

But it is not moving the file to the src dir
Anything im missing?

asking again what do I get guys

Been looking into keepass. Are there any browser extensions that make entering your passwords easier/automatic? Are they secure?

Currently have a 750Ti, looking at a 960 4GB. My PSU (400W 18A+18A) has a 6pin power connector, the card needs a 8pin but comes with a 6pin to 8pin adapter. Would I be OK? Both cards are MSI Gaming funnily enough. Thanks!

...

>Why isn't he using outdated software by a shitty company?

ensure the share and folder have at least read permissions for "everyone"

So I recently crimped some ethernet cables and the one I'm using on my main desktop only gets 100mbps amber. Which I guess is fine but whenever I play any online games like CoD4 or something, Windows will say that the network cable is unplugged. Do you guys think this is an issue with Comcast or my ethernet cable? It doesn't crap out if I'm watching Netflix/Hulu, so I'm wondering if it might be just a firewall thing.

gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-RX-470-vs-GeForce-GTX-960

get a rx470 silly

and it should be enough if you don't have many HDDs/optical drives/ etc. Over 3 of them may leave you with not enought power for an 8-pin card.

He is. That's the problem.

470 is 280-400€ here, 960 is 160-180 used. Don't got no cash for the 470, sadly.

baka ok

Dammit, posted prematurely
Thanks for that, I only have an SSD and 1 HDD, shouldn't be a problem then.

S1E6. The original is a crazy motherfucker.

are there any smart watches similar to the apple watch that i can use with my lg phone? i know jack shit about smart watches but i want a nice one

I'd tell you to get a used r9 380, but they use two 6-pins. Your PSU prolly won't be able to handle it.

seconded. Get a decent i5, like a 4690 or 4460

>easier
>automatic
I dont think you understand the purpose of it then

>go thrift store
>see original microsoft wheel mouse 1.0 in box with original shrink wrapping
>$3
>online its $20 but i opened the damn box anyway
>plug it in laptop
>works for a minute
>then doesn't work
>but it still disables my trackpad whenever its plugged in

what the fuck? is it some shit about my trackpad? the trackpad claims to be ps2 so maybe there's a conflict? I am connecting to the laptop using a ps2->usb converter

Yea, no chance. There are 380s in my price range but like you said, PSU doesn't cut it. I'd get a new PC but would have to spend over 600€ just for CPU, mobo and RAM to get an improvement. Someone reported that he's ben running a 770 on the same PC with no problems, so I guess a 960 should work.

3.99* kek

There isn't a secure way to automatically fill password fields in browsers using keepass? Isn't that kind of what chrome does, with it's auto-fill? I only ask this 'cause chrome's autofill is a little finicky.

>secure
>automatically
Again
Missing the point of having one

nigger is you retarded?
he can have secure automatic without problem
whats a fucking difference if he has to copy paste or an extension detects domain and check pages for username password input fields and offers if something is found in securely locked database that needs to be unlocked before using..

there are some, I dunno, I use lastpass
that one got the best integration

It should not be this hard.

I am pretty sure I set it to allow Everyone to access the folder.

Nope. I am not going to create another Windows user for file sharing.

What is a good chat app that preferably respects my freedoms and has the same functionality as Facebook chat?

That is it allows for group chat, uploading images and maybe files, and preferably cross platform (windows and android).

I would continue using FB chat but I hate how bloated everything else is, I just want to chat, not get suggestions for news and friends and other BS.

>secure
>automatic

yeah, let me automatically sit down on your computer and gather all your bank info, cause you're a retard and have made it "automatic"

Let me send you some malware that waits for you to "automatically securely' enter your passwords

Check up all the hacks recently.
password managers are a SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE

y-y-you are seriously retarded

Having a i5 2320 processor, should I upgrade to i7 6700k right now or wait till kabylake hit the market

Desktop has stopped recognizing my TV as an audio output source. It was fine earlier, but then I was fiddling with some webcam/mic settings and now my TV doesn't even show up in the Device Manager. Video is still fine, it's not an issue with the HDMI cable and I've made sure to check "Display disabled devices" and all that but it just doesn't show my TV as a connected device.

is your cpu bottlenecking anything you're trying to do?

When I connect to my openvpn server, I can't browse the web. IRC works.
I disabled the firewall on the server too.

When I go to Ipv4 settings, Routes, and then tick "Use this connection for only resources on its network", I can browse the web, but my IP remains the same as if I wasn't connect to the vpn.

want to completely wipe my ssd to sell it off ebay. i've got gparted live and wonder which file system i should erase the partition with?

how do i make sure an extra fan i buy is compatible with my pc case

you look up the size of the fan and see if your case has a free spot for such a size

If you're really concerned about people getting access to your data, you need to use the utility provided by your manufacturer. SSDs are much harder to secure erase than HDDs, due to the way they handle file deletion/TRIM.

Just during gaming. In some games there are random framedrops. Dont know if that's because of my CPU or GPU (GTX 770 2GB). I don't do much else on my PC.

I'm looking for a good, free alternative to good old ACDSee (I'm tired of keygen crap). What do you recommend, Cred Forums? I have portable IrfanView, but I don´t think it´s as good for image resizing as ACDSee.

try xnview
but irfanview is quite powerful

I'll try it, thanks. I'm getting a portable version, of course.

I have one of these USB flash drives and they're pretty handy for storing random junk on. It doesn't jut out too much from the usb port flimsily unlike a load of other drives i've used in the past. My only problem with it is it tends to get really hot when its been plugged in for a while.

Anyone know of any *good* similar sized drives which don't overheat?

My i3-6100 runs hot (up to 77C) when playing Haven & Hearth, a Java game. In other games it doesn't get above 60C. Should I take measures to reduce these temps? Some sources state the max Tcase for this CPU is 63C, others say up to 80C shouldn't be a problem.

I already added an aftermarket cooler (coolermaster Hyper TX3) and 2 extra fans (4 total, 2 in, 2 out).

1. What is a good book for learning electrical engineering?

2. For calculating max data rate of a channel, I used Nyquist theorem and Shannon's theorem. Each gave a different result, which one am I supposed to use? the higher one or the lower one?

i'm concerned about making it inaccesible or unusable, so doesn't it matter in that case?

those are high temps if you are not in texas or some other hellhole

TX3 should keep it much cooler
reapply thermal paste

clean it with alcohol
use tiny tiny ammount of the paste, imagine its there only to fill cracks not to be spread..

I have a USB flash drive with Debian burned onto it. But I want to see its contents on Windows. Is there a way to do this?

I don't think WinCDEmu will let you mount USB disks that have been burned already. I heard it only works for disk images, not disks.

>burned
when its usb we call it copied
and you can copy any iso you want there, google rufus

So instagram, in their infinite jewness, has decided to lock me out until I give them a phone number. How do I get around this?

I've already put the iso onto the USB drive. Now I just wanna see the contents in Windows. Rufus doesn't let you actually look at what the USB contains.

You need to figure out what filesystem debian is using, and give windows a way to access that.

Google Voice?

get an iphone

google voice wont let me make a number without a physical phone to tie it to. Everyone wants my number to spam, it seems.

so mount iso you got there
that should give you the look
or start sorting this out once you are on linux... there you will see everything

try showing hidden files and system files in windows as well, cause I think you should be able to see it

>You need to figure out what filesystem debian is using
It's an ISO, it may only contain filesystems only allowed by the format.

>so mount iso you got there
It says something about needing to format it before being able to use it, thus I am not able to see its contents.
I can mount it just fine on my main GNU/Linux system.

>on my main GNU/Linux system
oh fuck off with that lingo retard

It's a "ISO 9660 CD-ROM"

What the hell are you rambling about?

Not to spam, to track. You're profiled across everything from gamestop to web stores based on the common link of your phone number. There's not really any good solutions, but at least with voice you're not giving out your actual number.

What are you even talking about?

That's the point. Windows doesn't recognize it by default. You'll be able to identify what FS it's using when you have it booted up. Then you'll want to see if there's a tool for windows that will equip it to access that system. It might be read only. Really the easiest way to do things is just to copy them out while you're still booted into debian.

>Not to spam, to track.

To sell you shit. Fuck off with your semantics. It's tedious.

>but at least with voice you're not giving out your actual number.

I'm actually between numbers at the moment, which is why this is so damn annoying.

ntfs

>lenovo

Guessing a T420? I wonder if thats why it killed so many wireless nics...

Update the bios maybe?

>What are you even talking about?
dd if=debian.iso of=/dev/sdb
It's an iso

>You'll be able to identify what FS it's using when you have it booted up
I just said what fs it is using. "ISO 9660".

>Then you'll want to see if there's a tool for windows that will equip it to access that system
This is what this question is about.

Weren't Intel Atom CPUs discontinued?

It may be a stupid question to a more tech savvy person than me.
But when i am running all kind of games eg. WoW, MGS5, Rimworld, even just browsing chrome.
Some times my compter will black screen. But my computer still works like normal for 2-3min then completely shut down.
I have prolonged the issue as long as i can without it getting annoying, but when i re-socket my ram the problem "goes away". For a month almost to the day...
I have been told and also come to the conclusion it's my ram but i would like to have some one else's input to the matter.
btw ram is 4x2GB ripjaw sticks

I would run Windows Memory Diagnostic (or memtest, but you probably already have the former) to see if it confirms a memory problem

It's not semantics. I consider tracking to be worse than simple spam. You'll probably never get one direct message from them. It's all going on in the background, which makes it much harder to identify when you're getting screwed. If you can borrow a friend's phone or something to verfiy GV you can make all subsequent calls without an actual phone. There's not really a better answer. Most online phone services either don't connect with the traditional phone system, or require verification from another number themselves.

HOW THE FLYING FUCK DO YOU BUILD A PKGBUILD FOR FIREFOX-NIGHTLY
NONE OF THE FUCKING SHIT WORKS

How do you learn a large codebase?
I want to get involved in some open source projects but I immediately get put off by the size and complexity of the code

I have a unknown connection on my network.

Its an Ethernet connection.

There are no Ethernet connections on my entire network.

How do I make it go away?

I have an option to "block internet access", but I want it off my network period.

You find your router
You find your ethernet ports
You find the rj-45 connected to it
You unplug it

So are you done pontificating about shit I didn't ask your opinion on yet?

Whats the most secure VM software to use?
Is VirtualBox much more secure than VMware Workstation?
I just downloaded VMware with a fake license, was it a mistake?

I want to see all commands in /bin, but so far I can just see files regardless of their characteristic(I think).

Any way to read/see just commands in a bash script?

>pic related, what I have done to see files.

You have other speakers set to default?

What happened with intel XPoint?

I have problems with windows7. Every time that i trying starter the adobe apps show a error "msvcp120.dll not found". I try hard copy and past in system32 folder but the OS does not recognize.

ls -a

Copy it in the adobe folder.

>i need one light and faster navigator
>when i find don't have my addons

I listen about IceCat, but i could not install on my debian distribution(bunsenlabs).

My PC has an integrated Intel 4400 GPU. When I played a 1080P HEVC H265 video in MPC-HC, the audio abd video weren't in sync, and it stuttered a bit. Is there anything I can do to alter this? adding a dedicated GPU is not possible.

VLC i assume?

Dont use x265...

Can't get my user.js file to work with firefox 48.0.

I'm using github.com/crisbrm/user.js

I put it in the profile directory ~/.mozilla/firefox// but when I restart firefox the settings aren't applied.

Am I doing something wrong?

Oh boy, thanks bro. I got it fix every dll, how i can pay you?

How do I make foobar to update my song list when I download a new one? I mean, I want a list with ALL the music ordered by time downloaded or whatever, but I have to do that manually.

Also, I just fucked it up and pressed ctrl+w when I was tabbed out and deleted my current playlist so I have to start over again, is there any way to prevent this other that disabling that ctrl+w thing in preferences?

Try to use a x64 version of MPC.

I'm trying to do it through the shell script in emacs?

I want to read each command as a variable and use them.

MPC-HC

Why? Also, it was the only rip available for something I needed.

I have disposable money, my pc finally gave up the ghost and I want to build a new one from parts. I asked about it while back and got this answer from a kind user: "Get an AMD FX-6300 with the cheapest motherboard available. I spent around $300 on everything for a basic setup (except for GPU and SSD). Spend the rest of the money on the best GPU available.

Make sure the motherboard can overclock the chip. You can comfortably get it to 4.1GHz with the stock cooler, but you need something better for higher clock speeds"

As I said, my pc crapped out, and I don't feel up to trawling for parts on a damned mini-pad with a shit browser, so any help would be wonderful.

Not much hardware support hardware x265.

Find a better rip

I see. Thanks user.

Budget?
You can get an i5 plus motherboard for around 400

Is there a big difference between devices with an Intel Core i5-6200U and devices with an i7-6500U?

Samsung make their own, I don't think it gets as warm but you'll have to check on that

For most stuff? no.

Its a laptop, i dont know why you would need a I7 on one.

Higher clock speed and lvl 3 cache
Ultra books cpu's have hyper threading if they do that too?

I'll probably be looking to make it my main device desu. There seems to be quite a price difference between the two

whats a good speaker/favourite speaker?
Price range is about $50-$200

Easy build: get a cheap I5 and a B85/B150 motherboard for $300-$350.

I have like 800 on hand, but I could save up more. I don't want to spend much more than 500 unless I am 120% sure it will run literally anything on obscenely high settings and last over a decade

Binary addition

Can someone explain why in row #6, C_in (Carry in) is 1?

Row #5 Carry out would be 0 since 1 + 0 + 0 = 1 with no remainder. No remainder for next row means no Carry on, I thought?

forgot image!

Well the I7 is 10-20% better than the I5-6200, but probably 50% more expensive.

>I have like 800 on hand, but I could save up more. I don't want to spend much more than 500 unless I am 120% sure it will run literally anything on obscenely high settings and last over a decade
Then go for a unlocked I5-6500K and a Z170 motherboard with a great HSF.

Its literally just 200mhz faster, there's basically no difference other than that. The more expensive mobile i7s are real quad cores but that i7 and i5 are both dual cores. The integrated graphics is the same too.

iso /is/ a format, specifically the iso9660 filesystem
the problem is that people use ".iso" for other things as well

Then dont get a laptop with a u series cpu

I'm not really sure. Will I really see a big difference if I play the occasional game, run Photoshop and do a little video editing?
Nothing too intensive when it comes to editing though

Oh right, thanks. I thought it was nothing significant but I was doing a little searching and saw a post about the i7 chip using a bunch of new tech and being bundled with a better graphics chip so it was far better despite the 200mhz difference. Went a bit over my head so I couldn't really tell if it was bullshit.
It was just a comment on a site though

>Games
Low to nothing.
>Photoshop and video editing
Really big/Huge difference.

P50
BIOS is max new

Also its not only a 200MHz difference.

I5-6200U works at 2.3GHz and can reach 2.8GHz while the I7-6500 works at 2.5GHz and can reach 3.1GHz.

>Really big/Huge difference.
They are both hyperthreaded dual cores
The i7 has a 4MB L3 compared to a 3MB L3 and a difference of 200Mhz
It's a 10% difference at best.

>970
>cheap components
I used to do the same, good luck at the vrm melting after a few months

I checked the stats on the one that was recommended to me before and it said it was six core, which seems nice.
I know I'll want like 32 gigs of ram a terabyte of storage to start and a damn good graphics card

If I'm being honest, all though I have some experience with software and assembling hardware, but living in a shithole in redneck country doesn't lend itself to computer knowledge when you have minimal internet, no easy access to a library and the only computers most know anything about are from the fucking eighties. Thank fuck I made it out, sadly my memory is so fucked I can't learn anything about it now,

What board should I use for questions regarding editing photos in Photoshop? Directions to board/thread is much appreciated.

More cores doesnt mean a better CPU.
Also FX-6300 is a really outdated CPU.

If you want help building a PC just read Logicalincrements.com .

If you want a high end PC, and specially game on it just get a any recent I5.

Would adding a GPU to my Ubuntu server make plex stop stuttering and telling me that the server isnt powerful enough. Or at least help?

Why my torrent download/upload rate is higher than the limit I put when I'm not looking?

Speaking of a 6300
I have a 6300 with motherboard just sitting on a desk from a build 3 years ago

Any idea what i can use it for
Htpc?
Really wish it had intergrated graphics

possibly overhead
some torrent clients have an option to include overhead in the limit or not

Two questions; is there a way to be informed of a Steam game you already own going on sale? Secondly, is the GTX 960 still a good GPU for an entry level PC, or has it been gimped with recent drivers like Kepler? I know about >128-bit but a 1070 is too much and the 950 is too weak.

>960
Replaced by GTX 1060 and RX 470/RX 480.

I just want to play my games with something higher than fucking 20 fps. I own so many games I can't even fucking enjoy because of how shit my last one was. I want a pc that will run all of my old, medium and the next ten year's worth of next gen titles at at least 60 fps. No fucking joke, I couldn't play tf2 or even skyrim on the lowest settings with an fps config with more than 20 fps

>I just want to play my games with something higher than fucking 20 fps.
Then you are looking for a good videocard.
>I want a pc that will run all of my old, medium and the next ten year's worth of next gen titles at at least 60 fps
With how games have been i doubt you can for 10 years but you sure can for 4-6 years.

If all you are planning to do is play games and be able to overclock later on get a I5-6600k and avoid AMD CPUs.

Whoops, I did indeed mean 1060, not 1070. I also forgot about the 3GB version, which is only marginally more expensive than the 960, though I think it will be a waste for what's essentially a budget PC for a kid, since I went with an i3 6100. Well that answers my question, thanks.

>next ten year's worth of next gen titles at at least 60 fps.
that has never been an option, unless you count running the later ones at lower settings, but even then 10 years is a stretch

i've found is generally better to just get "enough" and upgrade every couple years than to attempt a "future proof" system

Binary addition

Can someone explain why in row #6, C_in (Carry in) is 1?

Row #5 Carry out would be 0 since 1 + 0 + 0 = 1 with no remainder. No remainder for next row means no Carry on, I thought?

Any recommended big box store headphone+mic sets? Just need something for gaymin, the set I bought myself was broken out of the box so I'm hoping to avoid that again.

My specs are:

i5 3340
Motherboard h61m-s1
GT610

My videocard is so shit that I can't even run BF3.

I want to upgrade my videocard to a 970 or 1060 but I'm wondering if those are too much for my processor and motherboard?

Also I'm not particularity interested in running games on superhigh, mostly just running newish games above 720p 30fps.

>I want a pc that will run all of my old, medium and the next ten year's worth of next gen titles at at least 60 fps.

And I want a flying car that shoots lasers out of it's headlights.

A GTX 1060 Would let you run recent games at 1080@60FPS at Mid-high settings.
Your CPU is still good.

Your current GPU is a literally just werks CPU to show image, not gaming.
Just check your PSU gives enough power for a new videocard since your current GPU only uses 40-50W.

Your processor is really good, go for it m8.

>Your current GPU is a literally just werks CPU to show image
Your current GPU is a literally just werks GPU to show image*

I don't mind upgrading, but bear in mind if I do upgrade, that would then become my side of and my new new pc would be my game pc.
I plan to use a win partition to play vidya and gnu/Linux for everything else.

Cool thanks.

Also, are SSDs worth it?

I remember them back in 2010 being overpriced, but I don't know now.

If you can spare the money for it yes

>Are SSDs worth it?
Yes, just avoid Kingston, PNY, Chink ssds, they will fail on you really fast.

You want a really good and reliable SSD? get a 850 EVO.
Cheaper options? Sandisk SSD Ultra ii.
Cheapests options? ADATA SP550/Sandisk SSD Plus.

Oh, thanks.

Should i upgrade my Moto G to a Moto G4?

Also how good is AT&T? they just moved over here in mexico.
Well atleast in my city.

>Pluto is a planet.
So is Vesta, Ceres and Luna.

Why do companies shove a QHD screen on a 13.3" display?

Would I be mistaken in thinking if I'm playing games at 1080p it's just all going to look significantly worse? Wouldn't text also be rendered ridiculously small?

>Would I be mistaken in thinking if I'm playing games at 1080p it's just all going to look significantly worse?
not really, it's the same amount of information as displaying it on a 1080p display
it will just look slightly blurrier, as sharp edges will be blended by the upscaler, rather than sitting square along a row of pixels
in the case of quadHD though, where the width and height is a multiple of 1920 and 1080, it is possible to upscale with a simple 2x scaler, that is, one source pixel becomes a 2x2 "pixel"
this would result in an image that appears pretty much identical to using a 1080p display (the only difference being that the space between pixels isn't the same)

>Wouldn't text also be rendered ridiculously small?
modern OS's have means of scaling up elements and text to suit higher resolution monitors, so with the right settings, you can have same-size text, that are made up of 4x the pixels, making them much clearer

So the general consensus is one of the newer i5's, then? Can someone give me a rundown on the parts and base I'll need and the best place to get them without getting fucked over by pricing or scamming? I would find it all myself, but as I said before I have jackshit ability to grasp hardware information. Even listing shit without an explanation of what it actually is confuses the shit out of me, sadly. I'm sort of stuck with a late 90's normie level knowledge of pc's, which sucks.

I´m looking for a 280 or 360 AIO, gonna replace the fans with noctuas

Thanks for that, but isn't that just the motherboard and the graphics card? I still need literally everything else, right? Like the tower, memory, ram. And whatnot? What would you suggest?

I cry every thime I got back to a computer with and ancient HDD. I have this laptop that I had an SSD in for 4 years, fast as fuck, but now with a 300 GB HDD it's slow as fuck, fresh install and all, as in it takes several seconds for it to open shit. Get an SSD, 120 GB is plenty.

What are good budget overear headphones that are large?

I'm stumped with a shitty phone issue. I have a Droid Turbo first gen and as of yesterday, whenever I record a video in snapchat, there's a loudish static noise in the background. Its happened in multiple enviroments, I've tried the newest beta version and I rolled back to older versions. There isn't the static noise in any other recording apps or videos so I'm at a loss to where this noise came from and how to make it go away since it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue.

Just got a refurbished PC that came with 2 250GB HDDs, and I bought a 2TB HDD. I don't really want to spend more money on an SSD.

Would it make sense to put my OS on one of the smaller HDs and just use the 2TB for storage? Or does it really matter?

Anyone know what an orange screen of death means? Just got a second hand win10 laptop and it gets that. Can't find any useful info about it.

Those are the motherboard and the CPU.

You still need a case, DDR4 RAM, and a HDD.

Use PCPartpicker to select some stuff.
The usual is

Fastest or cheapest DDR4 RAM you can buy.
WD Blue 1TB for HDD.
Corsair 200R for case.
Any EVGA PSU that fits your needs, in this case a EVGA 650 G1 or GS.
Graphics card? whatever fits your budget, you could buy it later and use the IGPU for a while.

Okay so I was playing osu! and my game was running just fine until i had to repair osu! with the default osu! software because of some problems i had but now i cant play osu at all because the fps is extremely low and its stupick at 31 fps when i play it keeps saying 31/240fos and now i cant play because it lags, gets glitchy then blacks out :(

bitlocker?

No, Bitlocker would come up with a screen asking for the recovery key and that screen is blue with white text.

I've never heard of an orange screen.

while the size of the hdd doesn't necessarily indicate a speed difference, having the OS on its own hdd can be beneficial, in that the system can access data from both independently
for example, moving large amounts of data to/from the 2TB drive won't cause the OS to become sluggish, as it's not on that drive

-- also, one thing you could consider, is to turn those two 250GB drives into a raid0 or raid1, while neither will come close to an SSD in access time, it'll still be faster than using one individually

I keep getting a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bsod to do with SynTP.sys, and afaik the only thing left to try is some kind of registry cleaner to purge all my bullshit and fuckups (no idea how to do it manually, probably shouldn't). Should I shill out cash for this WinThruster thing, or is there a free option you guys could recommend?

Using it on the 2TB one would be a better idea.
Not only it would be faster, but more realizable.

Run MEMTEST.

Also reinstall touchpad drivers.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but is there a MAC on the network you can't identify? You can either set up a blacklist with that MAC on it, or you can set up a whitelist with all the MACs you do want on your network.

Did I fuck up majoring in Information Systems rather than CompSci?

It depends on the place. Here at least, compsci is the main major, IS and IT are typically used for business or 2 year degrees where its basically just maintenance and simple things a monkey can do.

My 7-year old computer is struggling to play video at 1080p.

It can play up to 720p reasonably well, but shits the bed (freezes/crashes) if the video gets way too graphically dense (such as rapid changes in color and stylized subtitles).

Evidently, it's time to upgrade. What components should I make a priority, bearing video playback in mind? For some reason my mind is wandering towards RAM and processors on account of the hangups I've been experiencing, but I think I'm oversimplifying the problem.

let me guess, vlc?

CPU is the main factor, then GPU.
Anything modern can play 1080p@high birtates with no problems.
Even recent pentiums.

Having troubles tracking down a video issue with my PC, and my google-fu does not seem strong enough. I cannot determine if it is a display, graphics card, OS, or driver issue.

Problem: Screen will randomly turn black for a few seconds every few seconds after closing some games (not all) or alt-tabbing while playing some games. It does it much more often if I alt-tab while playing. The issue fixes after I turn my display off for 10 seconds (this is after I exit a game, I haven't tried during).

Additional info: Started happening Immediately when I bought a new graphics card and display to get back into vidya. I installed said hardware on 4-5 year old hardware that my roommate gave me. Speccy of current build is the picture.

Afterthought: Wow, my CPU really needs to be upgraded (just noticed, thanks Speccy!)... That just may be the problem.

Thoughts?

Depends. Do you have friends you want to play with?

If that does not matter, Xbox one.

Probably a driver issue.

Could be a monitor/Energy issue too but its not likely.

this phone didnt come with one natively, so i got that Kika emoji Pro one
it gives push-notification ads which re-enables them even when i disable push notifications, the swipe-to-type is awful so i still use swype keyboard all the time and only switch if i have to, the emojis are just a small part of the keyboard and the rest is full of gifs/sponsored short vid clips/ads, and of all 4 emojis i'd actually use, it doesnt even have 2 of them.
Mostly i just hate the bloated gifs/clips/store link buttons and stuff

is there one that has all the official unicode emojis and doesnt have all this garbage in it? something lite but complete?

I just updated my vidoecard driver to the newest version that was released two weeks ago and it seems to have eliminated the issue.

Wow . . . I feel like an idiot. I should have tried updating them again before posting. Oh well.

They usually add a few milliseconds of delay. If you're not playing CS it shouldn't matter. Just make sure they support your resolution without dropping to 30 fps.

No official way I think. It's supposed to protect you from data theft while using random USB ports for charging

Is there any program out there that has shortcuts for messing with dual monitors?

Need some help with some headphones. They were working fine earlier, but now I get no sound.
My desktop does detect them fine and they are set as my default device in Windows, I have updated all my GPU and Realtek drivers, and I can here them when I do a sound test in Realtek's audio manager, but outside of that I get nothing.
I have tried restarting the computer already, since sometimes that fixes issues with my monitor being detected, but it hasn't changed anything.

if it was just for displaying static images or small clips, i'd just attach something like an rpi to it, and push content to it over wifi
this way it won't even depend on your desktop at all

That is so gay, man.

Whatever happened to personal responsibility? If I plug my phone into a computer I don't fully trust, and my data gets stolen, that's my own damn fault.

According to PCpartpicker, Haswell motherboards will need a bios update if you are using a newer 'Refresh' Haswell CPU, but for Skylake mobos/CPUs, that doesn't seem to be the case. Did they standardize the bios, or was the previous simply a case of 'this older chipset might not work on a newer processor'?

Haswell Refresh CPUs are just garbage all around man. I know that doesn't really answer your specific question but it's one of those "the sky is blue" scenarios.

Recent 1150 motherboards already come with it.
Only old and low quality H81 and B85 motherboards need them.

Haswell refresh CPUs have been out for years already (Example G3258 and I5-4590, etc).

Get the Google keyboard, it has support for emoji and it's pretty good keyboard too. Assuming you trust Google to not collect data after you've disabled it from keyboard settings.

So what exactly are Haswell Refresh CPUs? It looks like any 4xxx CPU is classified as such, or the G3258.

Oh, so in essense, those would be equivalent to limited, cheapo motherboards from OEM builds like Dell and such, right?

If heat rises, why does ice float?

>put thermal paste on CPU
>didn't realize cooler already had thermal paste
nothing bad's gonna happen right?

>Oh, so in essense, those would be equivalent to limited, cheapo motherboards from OEM builds like Dell and such, right?
Yes.

It is lighter than water because it has lower density. Water expands when it freezes.

I know this is a Cred Forums question but I'm looking for some capture card kinda gear that can work with recent consoles + old ass ones, so both digital and analog signals.

I'd have guessed this shit would be real goddamn cheap but for anything that actually does what I want it's in the hundreds. Whats up with that? are my expectations not realistic or are prices a mess on this shit?

Just keep an eye on temps

Unless you're really making a mess with the shit, I think you'll have a hard time actually frying anything

To much paste makes your CPU hotter. It could also leak on your motherboard and even damage it if it is conductive.

But burning carbon (as in a fire) rises above surrounding air because it is hotter, even though it is heavier and denser than the surrounding oxygen and nitrogen. Is there a rule of heat to weight that dictates whether a substance rises or falls?

Can someone please help me with this fucking thing? I've been combing troubleshooting forums for the past hour and literally every answer is LE MAKE SURE YOUR DEVICE IS LE DEFAULT XD

Make sure windows audio mixer has not muted your program or the headphones.

It hasn't, and the fucking things work fine for Skype or, again, in the Realtek audio manager. It's just Windows that's blocking them. I've even uninstalled any other possible audio driver that could be causing a problem.

Where to download apks? Googling it was kind of like trying to find ROMs, a lot of sketchy looking sites.

man this keyboard is ideal. None of the garbage, full set of official things, and swipe feature that isnt bad. Plus the customizations to make it more minimal and nicer.

Thanks man. Dunno why the google OS doesnt come with it. Samsung loves their undeletable bloat crap

from within the fdroid app

echo "!#/bin/bash">shscript.sh
ls -a /bin/ >>shscript.sh
chmod +x shscript.sh
./shscript.sh

I think that should work

It's the same thing. It's not the heat part that matters, it's still a matter of weight density. On a molecular level heat means that individual molecules are bouncing around more, pushing each other apart, so the substance takes up more space with the same amount of weight, and therefore will float on top of more things. If something is heated but still more dense, it still wont float.

Why do Scientist get the right to decide that Pluto, which had been a planet for decades, just isn't a planet anymore?

What the fuck them makes them the authority of what isn't and isn't a planet?

Authority isn't the right word. A lot of science makes use of classifications, to help clarify things. Like the different kingdoms of life. It's a helpful way of grouping things based on what they have in common. With planets, the idea is that a certain minimum size is implied, as well as distance from similar/larger objects. There are loads of things in our solar system that are larger than pluto, and pluto itself is actually barely bigger than its "moon". And neither of them really make the cut size wise, so they reclassified it as a planetoid. You can still call it a planet if you want. I bet the greeks would.

Yes. I eventually figured it out myself, had to fiddle with my mobo's audio manager, somehow it thought I had like 3 things plugged into different analog ports and was shitting itself violently.

I've always been wireless but now I want to be ethernet. Please help me manage my wires.

How do I get this wire through that door without obstructing it? Currently, I can't open the door all the way.

What kind of tape should I use to keep it on the wall?

Thanks for any help

How much of a difference will I get upgrading from a 290X Direct2CU OC to a stock GTX 1080? I use a 1440p monitor for gaming.

Just run it along the side, there should be enough clearance under the door, and if the cable is at the edge it shouldn't obstruct the door.

I personally used duct tape I had lying around but there's probably a better solution.

>What kind of tape should I use to keep it on the wall?
doesn't really matter
plain packing tape will do

not sure about the door, most doors i've seen have enough space under them not to get in the way of ethernet

how do i make my h100i v2 work?

Can malware or rootkits survive wiping SSD or HDD during OS reinstallation?

I don't want to use duct tape cause it tends to damage the walls if I ever decide to remove it.

Thank you for the input.

I ask about the tape because I'd imagine there would be some kind of interference. Is there none?

So uhh I came into possession of a box of old computer parts.

Can I do something with this?

Is there an easy way to identify what the fuck?

I know a lot of old mac stuff is in demand but I don't seem to have any of that.

I don't have it here with me so no pics yet.

Not if you actually wipe and don't just reinstall.

hey Cred Forumsuise

My volume controller broke so I cut it and connected the wires directly.
Now I want to fix it so what should I buy?
Will a simple aux cord with controller be enough?

Pic is my speaker setup

When would you want to use a 16 bit microcontroller over an 8 bit one?

>I ask about the tape because I'd imagine there would be some kind of interference. Is there none?
na, it's fine

I mean choosing to install "Windows Only" for Windows and "Wipe disk and install Ubuntu" for Ubuntu. Not DBANing or secure-erasing HDD or SDD beforehand.

Can some malware or rootkits survive that theoretically?

it's just a stereo pot

Normal malware will not survive complete wipe.

But there are special, highly advanced malware...like stuxnet level...that survive full wipe by residing with the firmware of the SSD/HDD.

You are unlikely to encounter these type of malware unless you are somebody important.

Will DBAN or secure-erase take care of those guys too?

Alright thanks a bunch.

Will DBAN or secure-erase kill those guys?

They sell flat ethernet cables that are more expensive, but good for getting through tight spaces.

A pretty good difference, especially using VR. A 1070 would probably be fine for 1440p

tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html

Technically. It's unlikely, but more possible than we thought a couple of years ago. It turns out bios/uefi is surprisingly insecure, so if someone managed to insert malware into your bios or firmware it would be practically impossible to remove, since malware could potentially withstand flashing your bios. Virustotal has a way of extracting your bios to examine it. But it's still a young exploit, so you're probably fine. I just see it as another good reason to not let malware run free on your system.

Dban is about getting rid of information you don't want stolen. There are only a few mbr related exploits it might actually help with. A quick format should be fine for malware removal.

np, another idea for sticking it to things is with periodic blobs of blu-tak

I would prefer something more noob friendly like aux cord, will it be fine?

Does aux cord even come with volume controllers?

Ofcourse no.
Firmware locations are not even visible except by specialised tools, forget about touching those by consumer software like DBAN.

You are highly unlikely to get these type of malware.

If by chance this infects you, nothing short of going completely off the grid will save you, as your adversary will be someone like nation-state.

My mouse will pause for a second on X99 every once in a while. This is either a PCH, driver, or mouse issue and nothing more. Is there anything I'm not considering in this assumption?

I'll be in Cred Forums if you need me

I was playing the Sims 3 on Steam, (just got it,) and when I tried to shift+tab to use the built-in internet browser, my monitor went grey, the game audio kept playing, and I couldn't alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del. Nothing. Had to forcibly restart my computer.

However after restarting it, it gets to the Windows 7 welcome screen or whatever, then goes black and freezes. Doesn't load my desktop or anything, it freezes. Even my keyboard freezes, I can tell because numlock and capslock's little green lights don't come on or off.

The only way to get my computer to start up is via safe mode.

Please tell me this is an easy problem to pinpoint, I haven't had computer issues in forever and I forgot how terrible it is just trying to figure out what the problem is.

will a vpn prevent me from being subject to my ISPs draconian throttling system?

this is an easy problem to pinpoint

depends if your ISP throttling all traffic or only some sites.

Care to elaborate, then?

As i was gathering info about pc building it shocked me that even non cheap motherboards do not have a wifi module. Why is this allowed? Even cheap laptops have it

Why is Apple the best brand evur?

I just did what you told me to.
You said Please.

Can anyone who isn't a memeing retard please help?

i believe it's targeting p2p data

Because you are buying a motherboard for building a PC with other components, not a fucking all in one PC that will have all components built in.

Need wifi, just buy the module, else dont.

Laptops have it cause they are supposed to work from the get go.

Yes then a VPN will help.
Also, VPN has some overhead so it'll be better if you have high speed connection

might have overheated
might be a gpu problem

leave it off for a bit, turn it back on, see if it seems ok
if it boots, monitor temps and run a windowed game, see if things get too hot
if it still only boots to safe mode, try your gpu in another machine to see if there's a problem with it

It shouldn't have any impact on your overall speed, but if they're limiting certain ports or types of traffic then yes, it should help. Especially using openvpn they really can't separate out the different things you might be doing over your connection. You might prefer a seedbox though, because your upload speed is not limited, and the seedbox will have an ideal port setup, so things download to it very quickly, and you can sftp them to your computer at top speed.

Ethernet is a better connection than wireless. Many people using desktops don't care about having wireless added, and if they do they often want the choice of better/external cards, so wifi isn't a big enough seller to justify putting it on most boards by default.

It definitely didn't overheat. I'm going to assume it's the gpu based on your post and what I just tried.
I don't have another machine to test it in, but I uninstalled my graphics card driver, then booted without safemode. It started normally, installed the driver, then restarted, and gave me the black screen again. I think it's safe to say my graphics card is the problem.

So should I assume my gpu/graphics card is fucked and needs replaced? If so that's very, very shitty.

you can also do a memory test, but if that's good, then yea, gpu might be fucked

Uninstall the drivers with this:

guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

And then downloading new ones directly from the website. If you still have problems afterward, you can also try opening up msconfig, going to services, checking "hide microsoft services", and then unchecking everything that's left in that tab. Also try running sfc /scannow from a command line to try and repair any damaged system files that may be related to the problem.

Isn't that just for hard drives?

>And then downloading new ones directly from the website.
I don't even know how to do that. Mine just reads as "AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series" so I don't know the EXACT model number, and there is no driver on AMD's site for "6800 Series" that I can find.

I'll try your other suggestions, though.

>Isn't that just for hard drives?
no, ram, testing the ram

I'll give it a try too, then.

Amd should have an autodetect option on their website. Or you can go to device manager, right click it under display adapters, properties, details, property, compatible id's, and the first line has number in it that can be used to help you identify which card it is.

Wait, is there any way to simply use memtest from windows explorer or something? Why does it only come in isos and shit?

It can't test the memory while windows is using it, so it needs to be booted on its own.

New Thread

because testing ram means writing to it and reading it back to see if it's as expected
there are testers that work in windows, but they can't test areas in use by windows, which pretty much defeats the purpose
