xfce. It works well and stays out of the way.

Mate because it's the only one that doesn't explode every 5 milliseconds while also working without systemd and simultaneously allowing enough customization to make its usage smooth (which is to say, it comes with really fucking good default programs - there's no non-DE pdf reader worth shit at all, for example, so any DE that doesn't come with good custom programs is automatically unusable in practice, and that includes the likes of xfce).

Echoing this although not for init autism. It's the most stable DE by far, and the fact that the gtk3 build looks great is awesome. Xfce has a few more stability issues than mate does which is kind of disappointing. And don't even get me started on the bugs with KDE.

Mate for life.

Aqua
Looks good
Is very fast because Quartz is better than X11 architecturally
can be enhanced via programs like Amethyst or BetterSnapTool
Exposé/Mission control is nice
can write emojis and diacritics

Typical m*cfag, literally too retarded to know what any of the words he says could possibly mean.

Haven't you got banned?

So I see you're running GNOME! You know, I'm actually on KDE myself. I know this desktop environment is supposed to be better, but, you know what they say, old habits, they die hard...

No, I'm pretty sure anyone knowledgable in Unix or display servers wold agree X11 is a piece of shit.

M8

Was Elliot even using GNOME when he said that?

...one that works?

he was using windows 8

It's subjective, it depends entirely on what do you want your desktop to look like. Pretty much all desktop environments are incredibly customisable, so fretting too much over it is pointless. Just pick one and customise it to your liking.

All desktop environmments except Unity master race

Budgie. It's what gnome shell should've been.

xfce when it only has to work without problems and in a lightweight manner. KDE if I want some asthetics.
