Apple 'pushed' the industry in the right direction with this decision so that superior technologies can be developed and outdated, useless, and complicated ones can be lost to history.

I don't think that Apple's replacement for the 3.5mm jack was a good one necessarily, but I'm surprised to see so many people defending it. It's a shitty connector in need of a modern replacement and it's insane that it's survived as long as it has.

The carrying case doubles as a charger. You can easily store the charging case in your pocket and put your headphones there when not in use and have them charged when you take them out again.
If you need more than four hours battery life in a single charge (you take a trans atlantic fright every day) you should consider something more comfortable than earbuds.

And Apple has hit that mark before, and more consistently than other companies. The MacBook Pro (before the latest thin redesign) and the MacBook Air (current version) are both incredible machines.

They just had to make the MBP thinner so we get soldered-on RAM and no ethernet port or battery indicator. MacBook which will almost certainly replace the MBA does not have enough connectivity despite Apple's insistence that wireless is good enough.

iMacs were good machines before they started gluing everything together so that it requires some car-windscreen suction cup crane robot to remove the front panel to access all the components inside.

I'm guessing future Macs will support the W1 chip, so if you start using your Mac, sound will be redirected to your AirPods. Then if someone calls you, the AirPods will switch back to your phone. You can't do this with traditional Bluetooth pairing.

The problem with Cred Forums is you guys don't like thinking about user experience with products. Most people will give up on a device if it gives them even close to hard time, and you guys would sooner call them retarded than try to identify weaknesses with the technology. There is tons of room to improve Bluetooth's user experience. AirPods will push the industry forward, along with the BT standard. BT headphones will finally be good. Bluetooth is NOT retarded. I got a cheap pair of headphones for $30 and they're fantastic for running. I can keep my Phone tucked safely away instead of always risking a chance of it falling out of my pocket.

But most people want a headphone jack. Most people are going to use traditional wired headphones with the adapter, stick with older iPhones, or switch to Android.

aptX is good enough for portable use. Bitrate is slightly above 320kbit/s for stereo - not gonna please the audiophiles but it's alright for smartphone + headphone combination.

There's also enhanced aptX and aptX lossless codecs, so those can be used for HiFi.

However, Apple does their own thing with audio. They use AAC codec for Bluetooth at around 250kbps. And they're pushing AirPlay for HiFi, which is roughly CD quality, so it's not lossless but whatever. The market for lossless/hifi audio is small, so Apple doesn't care
