Lincoln Jackson
are you retarded
Ian Hughes
You're arguing about a problem that doesn't exist. Your last example is literally just wrong. Not due to some kind of fallacy, but due to raw facts.
Liam Stewart
most of those are fairly distinctive changes that affect the user a lot, they often bring their own DE or other unique stuff (think of nixos or peppermint with its webapps)
distro #6498486464 that just takes ubuntu, changes the wallpaper and preinstalls lxde/xfce/gnome/kde is not adding anything useful to the world (solydxk, bridge, *buntu, etc)

nice thread lmao

Debian calls itself just Debian. >Debian is a free operating system
debian.org/intro/about >A large part of the basic tools that fill out the operating system come from the GNU project; hence the names: GNU/Linux, GNU/kFreeBSD, and GNU/Hurd
Luis Sanders
Calls itself "Trisquel GNU/Linux", not "GNU/Linux". Yet it calls itself Debian.
Gabriel Martin
that proves my point no?
Lincoln James
>Calls it GNU/Linux It doesn't.
Jeremiah Thompson
>"calls itself" So? OP did not said "calls itself", just "calls it", where "it" can refer to a sub branding.
Jayden Reed
what part of FOSS (free open source software) do you not understand?
read the GNU/GPL loser!!!
Ryder Jones
But the first stuff changes the actual Linux kernel and layout completely. The reason android isn't Android + Linux is because it's so different it's barely Linux. It's not even licensed under GPLv2 fully, most of it that's actually notable is licensed under Apache which is NOT copyleft. These kind of differences are all found inside of the separate OSes that stemmed from the Linux kernel.
Debian and the likes are GNU + Linux or GNU/Linux because they do not vary much/at all from the Linux and GNU core philosophies which intrinsically go together well due to their roots.
