Live with my gf and she wants a normie all in one PC and has shown interest in the iMac. I already have my own gaming PC and would be nice to have the office and work stuff moved to a different computer. I've never had a Mac but always have wanted one. How is the OS and software? Have they gotten as bad as Microsoft has with Windows 10? She only wants the 21" model, what do you think of the 4k version? She doesn't notice the difference but I do, I was thinking of using it for some mild Photoshop in the future would the screen be better for that and would the integrated graphics even handle that?

Hi, trust fund babby here. I've had every Mac product made since 2005.
The 21in 4k iMac is very nice. I personally like it a lot as the 27 can be a little much.
In terms of what it can do, it can keep up just fine with Photoshop. The pixel peeping is one thing, but the vibrancy of the panel is really the selling point.
It's a great computer but it's really expensive. Get the flash upgrade and get more RAM yourself, its trivial to install. Though now that I think about it, I can't remember if the 21in can be upgraded in terms of RAM - that may be reserved to the 27in.
Either way, use the higher education store to order and get a few bucks off. There's not verification process, you just order.

Just get it, it'll make your life much easier. I have a six-year-old 27" on Sierra which I use for video editing and graphic design, and it runs just as fast as my two-year-old i7 laptop. If I get a new one it'll be for upgrading to edit/view 4K.
