Why do you still use Windows?

Why haven't you ditched Windows and fully switched to a Linux distribution?

What's holding you back from fully switching over to a Linux distribution?

What's your excuse this time, Windows-fags?

Proud member of the arch master race

I use windows 7 in a VM for application compatibility

People are fags because they use something you don't like? Okay.

Tell me what distribution that just werks on a x220

Tell me what windows just works in my Lenovo

I dual boot my computer with win10 and arch, I only ever touch win10 for games though, any alternatives?

>t. pcmasturrace gaymerbabby

I would already have some linux distro installed if I wasn't busy as fuck but as it stands I don't have time to babysit my computer. Not to mention there aren't any good DAWs on linux that I can think of.

pc gaymer autist

I've been with Linux for almost two years now, but I occasionally load up a Win7 virtual machine.

I have to use Windows at work and I play gaymes at home using Windows, everything else I do with Linux now. I'd like to do everything with it though.

I am going to be doing a full on switch, I just havent gotten around to it yet

The moment I ditch video games I will switch to Linux in a heartbeat.

Because I don't want to use Linux.

I use windows because I'm a literal cuck.

linux sucks

virtual machine GPU passthrough my main man

>virtual machine GPU passthrough
Sounds pretty good. I will look into it my main lieutenant.

My excuse is the fact that there are so many distros to choose from. So many in fact that there's a whole damn website about it.

Am now using Arch Linux with Gnome. Pic related, my current desktop. I almost wanted to use it for some light gaming, but I've had so many problems with AMD drivers that it's not even funny. How's virtualization working for you?

solution:
just go get architect and install arch. ubuntu is complete trash.

All Linux distros are the same except for the package manager and package release cycle, unlike *BSD.

Start with any distro you like.

I suggest Linux Lite (Xubuntu with decent defaults) but *buntu is fine

i dont have to use a shitty third party office suite. i can play fallout 4. i can use multisim. connecting to bluetooth is ez. i dont need to micromanage every fucking detail of my interface. really i fucking hate microsoft but win os has better software available. if not for that reason i would have ditched it long ago.

...

honestly, if you booted from a live USB to try it out, you'd probably enjoy linux a lot more than you think.

I'm a designer and I use Rhinoceros 3D, Photoshop and InDesign. I also use Maya and Ableton Live for fun.
Blender is pretty good, and I will try Krita (or maybe Gimp) but, professionally, for me, I can't use Linux.
I'm on win7 sp1

How the hell is PS still not ony Linux, I don't fucking get it.

because I have to turn in assignments in ms word, ms powerpoint AND professors upload notes and documents for you to look at using MS products

can I do this on a linux distro? If I can i'll switch right now right now

user, how much do you weigh?

Asking for a friend.

Not so fukken fast.
Will all of those linux distros recognize my AMD HD 7800 series GPU? Will it be able to detect when I switch my monitor to my TV and play sound through HDMI?

basically because of vidya. The games I want to play arent available on linux and dual booting/virtualizing just seems inconvenient. I've used linux in the past and liked it, and really have nothing against it though.

I could very well see myself ending up using a linux distro full time if it keeps improving

Because Linux doesn't support software I use on a daily basis.

muh ease of use and proprietary software.
It works well for me.
I appreciate linux too though. Specifically the lack of a sig kill in windows is fucking absurd lol. When you have to wait for a non responsive process for like 2 minutes before itll close........

Because no reasonably recent hardware runs libreboot, and if I can't have a completely FOSS machine, I might as well keep Windows and my closed source vidya

Because it works great
Because no distro works as great as Win7
The fact that it already does everything I want it to and I'm accustomed to it
All of the above

Because believe it or not but proprietary software is still lightyears ahead, especially if you're specialized and not a NEET casual.

I don't use that card you have so I don't know

But HDMi connection to TV and monitors work just fine on my machines

I can't work on linux since it has no support for most architectural software. Hell, you can't do proper graphic design on it. I would switch any moment if I could.

>What's holding you back from fully switching over to a Linux distribution?
Nothing. I've been using Debian for years. It's a million times more useful for everything but Photoshop and gaymen which I can do in an XP or 7 VM anyways since GNU/Linux runs VirtualBox flawlessly. I chose Debian because of the wide variety of software support, stability, and ease of use/maintenance.

For anyone thinking of switching to GNU/Linux, Debian can be extremely noob friendly if you apply yourself and learn a few command line basics and troubleshooting techniques. If you're the kind of person who needs Apple support to walk them through what a reboot is, don't even try Ubuntu.

>any alternatives?
Yeah, Windows 7.

Terminal and settings icons are sexy.

It's much better than nothing. I'm typing this from a Librebooted T400. I also have a 2014 MBA and a custom built desktop which both dual boot OS X and GNU/Linux. The two don't run Libreboot, but not using spyware as a main OS makes a world of difference.

I go to school so I need Microsoft word
I like to play video games
I like to use photoshop

>Bill Gates

Let it go, bill. You may have won the battle back in the 90s, Jobs won the war.

>Mfw even Gates uses os x

I pretty much just use my PC for games and haven't had any issues with Windows 10, nor do I care that corporations know what genres of porn I fap to.

>Let it go, bill. You may have won the battle back in the 90s, Jobs won the war.
Some battle, user. Two versions of Windows are above 30% market share.

>Why haven't you ditched Windows and fully switched to a Linux distribution?
I have work to do
>What's holding you back from fully switching over to a Linux distribution?
Autodesk, really.

Honestly, it is something I am considering in the future.

Right now, Windows 7 is fine for what I need it for. If I had to guess, Windows 7 will still be fairly functional for at least another 3-5 or so years. I don't like the direction Windows 10 has gone in and I am hesitant on trusting Microsoft after the sketchy shit they pulled with the W10 upgrading and being cryptic about shit. The other problem is it feels like Microsoft is pulling a lot of shit with drivers and restricting companies on what they can do and if they can make stuff for their older OS's.

I am seriously considering doing two separate builds eventually, a W10 gaming PC that is just for gaming, and much more simple machine running linux for everyday stuff. I know I can dual boot, but I kind of want to segregate it a little.

I'm a gamer and not a lot of shit is linux compatible, without running through emulators/sandboxes and if i'm going to do that then I'd rather just use fucking windows. Not like it cost me any more than linux since i get it free anyway.

>What's holding you back from fully switching over to Linux?
videogames, just like most people
>muh openGL
wish Vulkan wasnt forgotten by everyone after being put in like 5 games

Because I use a lot of Windows-based programs and Wine is a buggy piece of shit that works 30% of the time.

...

nice paint

>What's holding you back from fully switching over to a Linux distribution?
Development tools. When .NET truly becomes cross-platform (even if it's not free as in free beer) then I'll use GNU/Linux full time.

>">implying linux has no games"
>Literally playing the shittiest runescape tier game made in like 1998

We aren't talking about shitty browser flash games user, we're talking AAA games that use directx. And no CS:GO and tf2 don't count, they are AA at best and multiple years old and outdated.

i use arch on my laptop and windows on my desktop because games. i'd prefer to use linux for gaming but support isn't there yet. wine works well enough these days that i do a decent bit of light gaming on my laptop though.

>.NET
How about you learn a language that isn't for children?

Lol

Atleast install windows 7, do you enjoy being spied on?

>install gentoo
install antergos

don't you have to have a second dedicated gpu for this shit? if not i'd just need to add more ram and probably get a second monitor, which is nbd

arch, antergos if you're gun shy.

>using debian-based distros
there's your problem

M$ and Applel are paying huge amounts of $$$ to Adobe, that's why...

>Why do you still use Windows?

I have a job and play vidyer games.

Please don't tell me you're a sepples shitter either. Your post was cringe enough.

you mean no distro is as broken as windoze 7?

no, your computer wants to use you instead

$ pacman -Q pacman
pacman 5.0.1-4

Fuck off Pajeet

1. It does the job
2. I simply dont need Linux
3. Windows Exclusive Applications
4. Dont want to use wine and shit like that desu

kek'd fucking dumbass.

one program internet download manager though its paid i manage to get its full edition
it download inpage video , can manage speed , so fast and stuff beside if linux crashes no way to recover data, got a vest gui to operate linux got no match

IDM is insanely good for shit like FitGirl repacks.

I don't even have words for this.
You're so retarded, you're very well suited with Windows

Come on Cred Forums, even skooru idorus are using W10.

i feel like you're a retarded time traveler from 2003

are you real friendo? speak to me

literally no games

Not all games come out on Linux... Trust me I'd love to ditch windows 10

IDM is GOAT
freetards wish they had """alternative"""

Diablo 2 is a AAA game and uses DirectX, faggot.

I use windows 10 on my desktop for gaymen. I use linux in a vm alot. Linux is snappier on my hdd than windows on my samsung 850 500gb ssd

I use a laptop for school which requires me to use windows only programs.

>I use linux in a vm alot. Linux is snappier
you don't even know what snappy means if you're using it on top of an abstraction layer... I bet even the drive of your VM is set up on top of the ntfs partition of winblows

also
>using w10 or any windoze as a host system

I need it for my poker software.

mainly because i hate linux? windows 8, 8.1, 10 are dogshit mind you... i just keep windows 7 because it has yet to fail me -- so why switch? linux will ether fade away or became more and more standard as people switch, if they do... don't see that happening.

>because i hate linux
how can you h8 it without even using or trying it?

>i just keep windows 7
stockholm syndrome

i am 43 years old, mane been using *nix for years and it is shite! maybe if you have a huge business it is good but for home computing/workstations os/2 and since that is done with windows nt sp1,323,423 aka 7

The fonts are complete shit, even with infinality installed

Theres still no good DE. Gnome 3 looks like it was made for mobile phones and tablets, KDE is laggy and xfce looks like abandoned and outdated.

inability of Linux to provide basic consumer things such as out-of-the box tear-free movie watching.

I really just came to here for advice on Win7. Will I still get the most out of my drivers and games if I roll back to 7?
Win10 just did a large update for me and it was just sketchy with a bunch of other sketchy shit back that I got rid of.

Any buntu based distribution works fine.

Enhanced gaming preformance on windows 10 is just a meme, user.

because I see the OS as a tool to run applications and games. Windows 10 is perfect and stable, long gone are the days of win9x bsod.

>not posting real arguments, but instead posting an arbitrary age

I didn't even know it was supposed to have 'enhanced gaming performance'
Just read here and there about drivers being "optimized" for the latest OS and blahblah
Is this the case? Or should Win7 be just as good without the sketchy privacy shit

...

Libre office can open and save in extensions compatible with Microsoft Office

No they're not 'optimized'. Windows 7 is just laggy and bloated by itself.

>pacman
Yeah, good luck updating that.

>why i don't use linux as my main computing environ~

i don't like most of the de - never did.

>gnome
Was decent. WAS. Know it bloated and prepacked with unnecessary dependencies. Yes, MATE is excellent-alt but do you really need to fork a now sub-standard DE? c'mon.*

>kde
again, was once pretty decent now it is glued together [just like the linux kernel :^)]

whole xserver/x~

>xorg/x11 in gen.
these were solely designed to be built/compiled directly from source, not universally downloaded from repos via gen-pksys methods even the main developer of slackware acknowledged this.

>great loser-mentally pkg wars
FUCKING CHRIST back in the ZPNX days there was one main repo with all types of software, blobs, kernel sources, etc! what the fuck happened? it's like 'developers' like to add their political and social philosophical views unto unsuspecting technical users. it just gets old, man.

>forks
haha what a joke. group of devs get butthurt then HURRR we gon change n be bleeding hart

i will continue and defend my main arguments if you'd like me to do so

>Windows 7 is just laggy and bloated by itself.
sad days

I want to make the switch to linux but the main game I play is only available on windows.

which one?

FFXIV
>don't judge

All of them

photoshop. absolutely no other alternative offers the same efficiency as photoshop, and believe me when i say that. photoshop is what i do for a living, and tried all the others. tried to use them for months, to learn them, to wanting them to be intuitive, but no. absolute crap.

>because I have to turn in assignments in ms word, ms powerpoint AND professors upload notes and documents for you to look at using MS products

Libreoffice (and many other free-as-in-freedom word processors) are quite capable of opening and saving to native MS .doc format. You should inquire whether you can submit your assignments in .pdf to your professor as well.

because of photoshop and ms office
no other reasons

>ms office
because there are no FOSS alternatives

>photoshop
CS6 can be run by using WINE
or you simply use a VM (with GPU passthrough)

>56766929

I've got until 2020 until Extended Support ends for Windows 7. I refuse to bite the Linux bullet until I absolutely have to.

>bite the Linux bullet
it's called ascending you blinded person

8.1 has support until 2023, and it doesn't have integrated botnet like 10

I actually use my PC for more things than ricing it

Bitwig is on Linux, I've never tried it though

Lol! and if it did get off the ground past the logo design stage the project will be dead in 1 month or it will beg for money :L

Yes but the trouble is then you're running Windows 8.

But I use both linux and windows in a vm.

Win 7 is most likely the last decent OS microsoft ever made and sadly there's a lot of software that isn't compatible with linux so the best I can do is make a VM and run that shit on win 7.

It's called uGet and it's great.

>tfw used XP almost exclusively for more than 14 years
>tfw only GNU/Loonix can be the spiritual successor to XP
>tfw Pa/g/eets actually shill for Microsoft for less that $.01 per post
Kill me now, pls.

guys will Microshit ever go back to how windows 7 originally is without the app store and spying? and with a normal start menu or is all hope is gone? i need to know

No.

No but that's ok you will be able to install Android on your desktop next year.

gaymes and convenience

Shut up, you baby duck.

>getting ass-raped is convenient
wow, user

...

imho the next usable windows would be win 2016 server because it shouldn't have all these shits and kernel is the same as w10

lmao
If anything, they're gonna increase the spying and kill Win32 because UWP is "the future"

windows is better than lonix, thats all

Too lazy, too many distros, too many people saying "use x it's better anything else is for gay sjw cucks"

Because learning Linux is about as easy as learning Japanese.

Can't play vydia on loonix

Overheating and software that I like

>GTK based

And gaming on linux is still non existent

>diablo 2
>runescape tier
kek'd

Games, my friend, Games. I can't play on Linux. Show me a tutorial and I'll try it.

I really, really want to but, I have a real job that has Windows based PC's and I to game.

Linux has no games and WINE is shit-tier. Everything on nix is comfy though.

Switched from Windows 7 to Lubuntu during the Windows Telemetry and botnet hysteria of last year. The Radeon drivers didn't work so great with my old card, and it was a Sisyphean feat to get mouse acceleration turned off with a sensitivity I liked. Ended up going to Vista SP2 with updates and communication with Microsoft turned off.

Linux is very time consuming to set up and keep running well. I instead bought a Mac which I think is a solid middle ground.

>non existent
I dont think you know what those words mean.

friendly reminder that by next month all windows updates will be forced on you in a bundled package style which will include all of the botnet updates.

>inb4 hurr I turned updates off
enjoy getting raped with no security updates.

>Ended up going to Vista SP2 with updates and communication with Microsoft turned off.
kek. I hope you don't ever enter in or browse any personal or financial information on that machine. I'm sure you also don't mind your machine/network is undoubtedly being used in someone's (literal) botnet for ddos attacks.

software availability

iTunes

windows server 2012 goes to 2023. literally the perfect windows os.

>use both
>hate the shit out of your linux machine because it's more cumbersome to use than the windows fucking 10 catastrophe that is your desktop which has it's own cascade of faults
>loathe the fact that the linux box is going to be vital to your future because nobody writes physics software for windows for some reason

I want to dump linux ASAP because it just reeks of autism, there's like 400 commands you have to fucking memorize and know inside and out, and how they interact with eachother and different filetypes but again it's like the Premiere OS for Science Shit so I guess I'm boned.

Have a surface 4 pro.
Linux would only cuck my beautiful machine.

Because Linux is a meme.

Don't listen to these retards, you are better off using the OneDrive web versions of word etc because .docx is so shit and LibreOffice still can have trouble loading from\saving to it creating retarded layout problems making your professor think you are stupid as shit.
