What are some good headphones for people with big as FUCK heads?

I have these:
Sennheiser 555s (comfy as heck)
Meme M50x (feels like head is in a vice)

budget is ~$100, closed/open I like both, comfort is top priority

When SATA4 will be released?

Probably not for a long-ass time, if at all. Don't worry about it.

>hpg
>READ THE STICKY YOU FAGGOT
>endless general related memes about brands and headphones they've never even used

nah nigga, hpg sucks, spoonfeed me, because sqt will and they wont

Why are there no aftermarket AM1 coolers?

Because nobody expects people who buy AM1 motherboards to have money for one.

>spoonfeed me

Be sure and use the "s" for good security practices. And for future reference don't go trolling this thread/board/site when your own general doesn't want to deal with you.

if i pirate a program that comes with a crack that you have to drop into the program files but the program is really unstable and i sometimes have to reinstall it, is it okay to copy the crack a bunch of time and keep them in a seperate file so i dont have to end up redownloading the torrent?

Need to do some quick video editing, just cutting and pasting some sections, what should I use?

I have stored a EVGA 500B, a I5-4460 and a HyperX 8GB Stick for a year, what are the odds they still work?

Probably never, it's being replaced by PCIe for fast SSDs, and even SATA 2 is good enough for HDDs.

There are a couple, one for really thin quietpc.com/gelid-slim-silence-am1, one for passive cooling arctic.ac/worldwide_en/alpine-m1-passive.html

Something needs to be released to help SATA SSDs increse their 550MB/s limit and still be backwards compatible.

SATA will be replaced for sure in laptops with eMMC and M2/mSATA but who knows.

I'm wondering... since youtube is used a lot for listening music... does they managed a way to reduce the traffic when users just minimize their windows... I mean... not buffering any video and only audio while the window is minimized or they just don't give a fuck...

blender

Manufacturers kinda tried for backward compatibility with SATA Express, which pretty much failed since it's more expensive and slower than M.2,

eMMC is slow as shit, I'd expect that to die off in favour of PCIe on everything except cheap smartphones pretty soon.

mSATA is already dead.

And not only slower, but bigger too.

eMMC is slow as fuck, but the point of it is that is cheap so i doubt we will stop seeing it in low end laptops/tablets/phones.

Will DDR3 RAM get expensive like DDR2 did?
There are too many, but way too many DDR3 computers for companies to stop manufacturing it right?

I have an Asus Zenbook running an i5-6200U. According to powertop, it never gets past idle state PC2. I believe this is related to the whole Skylake power management thing. I'm running Ubuntu 16.04. Problem was present in the 4.4 kernel. I tried upgrading to 4.8-rc7, which supposedly contains fixes, but nothing is different. How do I fix this? I'm willing to install a different OS if I have to.

That wouldn't work at all, plus they don't know when your window is minimized, and youtube doesn't want you doing that anyway. It interferes with their ads, hence why you can't do other things while listening to youtube in android.

if a video has a still image for the entire thing, then it only has one keyframe, and thus the bandwidth used for video playback is totally marginal.

It will eventually but that'll take years to happen.

Nothing should've happened to them if they've been stored in room temperature the whole time.

mobile skylake power management is broken on lunix because intel doesn't want to write docs or drivers. either live with poor battery usage or install windows

Room temperature is 30-45°C, is that still ok?

Might have shortened their lifespan but not by a significant amount. It's fine.

Windows fag here. PC suddenly restarted and booted into a black screen with text about Watch Dog Initialization. Can't seem to get out of it as I can't boot into any sort of bios or safe mode. How fucked am I/how do I fix it

nevermind restarted a bunch and windows is rebooting/updating, which is better than a black screen. what should I do when it's finished?

Stop trying to steal porn, and just use fucking tube sites. Then reinstall your OS, and learn your lesson.

thanks senpai will do
I don't even download torrents at all though, let alone pirate them, at least not on this computer.

I just defaulted to the most common. But you had to download SOMETHING to get in that situation.

So I have this program, and it crashes, but after the 4th or 5th time of running it, it suddenly starts working.

Doesn't seem to crash anymore after that no matter how many times I run it, and I changed absolutely nothing.

Any possible explanations? How man I track down the problem?

What's the best lightweight window manager without a learning curve? OpenBox?

details, nigger.

99% sure a person I contracted work for got hit with some malware. I don't live in the USA so I didn't save his number, but has anyone seen a message like this?

I asked about quick video editing here and I'm using Blender like recommended

Everything was going fine and dandy. I don't really know how to chop videos in this thing, so I'm using ffmpeg/webmforretards to snap some pieces of footage and glue them together

I'm having just one issue, though. When I convert a piece of media with audio still on and put it on Blender, the lenght of the audio and video are different (refer to test.mp4 and test.001), making the audio of that snippet go out of sync. It's fine when I play it on MPC, though

Anyone knows what might be happening? I'm not really sure of how to proceed

yes

no

note to self: if people on Cred Forums tell you you don't need antivirus software, even on windows, listen to them

I know it's not what you want to hear, but google what you want to do plus the word blender. There are millions of tutorials to help you.

Honestly I've never heard of someone edit videos in blender, I thought people used it mostly for modelling in 3D.
I'd suggest looking Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere. Haven't used the latter but I know that Vegas is really easy to use.

The exception is if you lack common sense or don't know how to use the computer properly.

>I would suggest closed source programs that you have to pay for or steal like a nigger to use

Nice try, Mr. Somethingstein

>Honestly I've never heard of someone edit videos in blender
Same. I had to google "blender video editing" to learn it actually has a video editing section

Question: does Vegas let you use multiple tabs? I have an hour of video and I wanted just small sections of it to be stitched together, it would be great if I could use the same program to just copy from one tab and paste it into the other

I'll try, I was just hoping someone would have something for this weird problem I'm having

>steal like a nigger to use

Well, I'm white-skinned but I do live in South America, time to rev up Deluge

I am looking for a new desk chair.

I've seen people recommended Steelcase Leap. There is a used office chair store that is selling one for $150

My only question is what do I do if it breaks? They have a 12 year warranty, but what good does that do me if I buy used?

I mean, I doubt I can call up Steelcase and ask them to service a used secondhand chair.

Can I?

Are you better off using en dashes or underscores in file names? I'm thinking of using

YYYYMMDD_DocumentKind_BusinessOrCustomer_ServiceOrGoods

Would this be fine?

>Same. I had to google "blender video editing" to learn it actually has a video editing section

People use ffmpeg every minute of every day to make webms for Cred Forums. Do you think that was the intention of the ffmpeg devs?

I prefer underscores, they're easier to read in my opinion.

Yes, because it's essentially a video encoder.

>essentially

Yes. And blender is literally a video editor.

full stops

hmm

>being able to create videos then edit them means it was never meant to edit videos that you didn't create

Is there something wrong with you?

No, there's something inherently wrong with recommending software that wasn't designed for the purpose that the user asked.

It's like saying photoshop was never meant to edit photos that you didn't create from scratch, because it's good at creating photos from scratch.

...

Photoshop is a raster graphics editor. The point is that there's better software that are purposed for creating images and not editing images.

I'm about to piss a lot of people off, but why would I want to use linux if I already have windows? I know it's more efficient but you could argue dos is more efficient than windows. What I want to know is why bother if I'm just going to run into compatibility errors if I try to play some game on steam that doesn't support it or something...

So what was your alternative? Other than paid for proprietary bullshit? That's right, you didn't provide any. You are shitting on a suggestion because it does something well, rather than praising it because it does multiple things well.

Can someone help me get PCSX2 working? I was told of someone that has a pc with the same specs as mine and it works great for them but it is slow for me, what do?

Grow up, or fuck off to no one here cares about gay games, gaymer fag.

>Other than paid proprietary bullshit?

Vector editing:
• Free: SVGEdit
• Paid: Adobe Illustrator

3D software:
• Free: Blender
• Paid: Autodesk Maya/3DS

Image raster editing
• Free: GIMP
• Paid: Adobe Photoshop

what should I use for full disk encryption on windows 10? plausible deniability please

>hey guys what program can let me edit my images
>"MS Paint"
>"no"
>WELL YOURE'RE RETARDED PAINT STILL LETS YOU EDIT IMAGES EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T PURPOSED FOR EDITING

it was just an example.
what I'm saying is, not everything on the internet works with linux, so why bother?

Then why not post that the first time, rather than shitting up the thread? Why can't you just be helpful and not act like a faggot all the time? What the fuck is wrong with you?

My uni blocks all torrents and vpns. How do I get around this?

Pay for shit.

>all this long ass discussion about paid vs free software
>still have no idea of what's wrong with my blender
Oh well

I want a tablet that can run webms easily, without an app. Is this possible?

I recommended Vegas and Premier as decent video editors that has a main purpose of editing videos which was asked for, not a 3D modeling program that has a toolset for animation timeline editing not made for general video editing.

Don't bother unless you want to get your account banned. Sysadmins aren't retarded. You probably had to sign some agreement that you would do nothing malicious on their network.

Literally any android tablet made in the last 19 months that hasn't been cummed in daily.

Is it possible to pirate windows 10? I missed out on the free upgrade

A tablet running Android (with MX Player) or Windows with MPC-HC/mpv

>i want to play videos
>with using software
get a reel to reel projector

So paid to use shit?

I think I found one of the possible reasons for the Blender problem: variable framerate

What do I add here to make it a constant 24fps?

>-c:v libvpx -crf 32 -b:v 20000K -threads 1 -quality best -lag-in-frames 16

probably -framerate 24 if it's using ffmpeg as an encoder

Oh well, still the same problem

what's the best linux os for an old dell laptop? i'm talking p4 latitude c840.

>I'm indirectly teaching kids to use blender

I feel like a teacher, like that tranny felt like a mom for getting close to a woman's baby.

Literally anything with a lightweight DE or WM like openbox. But everything is going to use RAM.

Should I upgrade to Windows10?

os? plugins? game?

was the person with the same specs running the same game? performance varies wildly between games

Do you like /and or/ are you used to windows? Do you feel paranoid all the time? Are you in the mood to learn something different?

Rather, are you coming from old windows? Do you have problems with it? Name them. What are you "upgrading" from?

How do I change the W10 start menu so the icons on the far left have text next to them and that shitty apps list is hidden?

I've looked at the start menu settings a million times and can't find these options

What should I use as a music player? Foobar, Winamp?

I'm running windows 7, not sure what you mean by plugins, do you mean those in the emulator or? you'll have to explain. Trying to play tekken 5 but I have a few others iso's as well. The guy in the video was playing budokai 3.

your phone, grampa

have a look at
wiki.pcsx2.net/index.php/Tekken_5
and compare with your system/settings

I don't understand but it looks like it just isn't possible under current circumstances.

i don't know how you got "isn't possible" out of that page, with it's literally neon-green "playable" texts on every revision of the game

going off the comments, it's a fairly resource heavy game

musicbee

Either one is fine, since they have the exact same functionality.
I went with winamp because it works out of the box.

classicshell.net/

It's better than 7 and 8.1 in every way except for privacy. If you care that much then don't upgrade, but there are a lot of benefits like dx12 support.

Depends on how familiar you are with linux and what you intend to use the laptop for. If you're relatively new or want something that just works just go with mint cinnamon.

Foobar is great

installing debian/kde. not too familiar with it, but more than willing to learn.

What I meant is it sounds like my computer isn't up to par with that game in particular but maybe the emulator can be tweaked, I don't know. I just tried playing a few games and with any tweaking they were all unplayable.

without any*

Debian is a fine choice.
It's pretty beginner friendly, and the packages it uses are also very stable so you will never really have to worry about anything breaking.
It has a gui installer also, so don't worry about that.

I'll give it on more try. The topic is Microphones and audio interfaces.

Short version : I bought a Rode Procaster that I will need to pair with an audio interface. I am considering using the Scarlett Solo, but the Procaster needs a lot of gain, and I am not sure if the Scarlett Solo will be able to provide enough of it.

Someone pls respond. I've been trying to get an answer to this for three days now, and no one seems to be able to respond in any way.

You're running windows 7 or 8? Enable text-to-speech and go to www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade

I installed antergos with xfce, but I want to switch to gnome.
What's the easiest way for me to do this?

Text to speech doesn't have jack shit to do with it.

sudo pacman -R xfce4
sudo pacman -S gnome
Try that?

not him, but I thing the exploit is if you have some kind of accessibility features turned on you can still do the upgrade.

Unless they changed it, having text to speech enabled is enough to trick the updater into thinking you're using assisstive technology.

I think I tried this before, and it listed a ton of gnome packages and asked me which ones I wanted to download. I'll try it again though.

sudo pacman -S gnome-shell
That'll get you *just* the desktop environment. Little confused how you weren't able to figure this out though. It's just installing packages through pacman like you would with any other program.

It's been confirmed repeatedly that it doesn't matter in the slightest what features you have turned on or not. That's just a newb rumor people like to spread cause the internet is one big device for spreading bullshit. Microsoft lets you just do it without checking for anything. At least they did. They claimed they were going to start making people call their hotline for handicapped people to verify a disability, but I haven't checked if they ever went through with it.

To elaborate a bit more, this is what I want to see

Maybe I'm just retarded.
Thanks anyway user.

Well fuck son, consider me enlightened. Never actually tried running the update that way myself.

Straight-up isn't doable without third party software. The design you want was the one they used pre-Anniversary Update.

So are you saying that my current setup is no good?

>Let's make the start menu look worse for our anniversary
Fucking epic microshit

Thanks for the answer though

either your machine isn't fast enough, or you're not using ideal settings

there's a lot of tweaks and hacks you can mess with in pcsx2, some are even required to make games work and look right

To be fair, I've heard way more complaints about the pre-Anniversary start menu than the post-Anniversary menu. Anniversary update has a fuckton of other problems though (including somehow crashing my hard drive) and taking out the option to use the old menu is gay as fuck.

need some recs for a decent, entry level hdd- around 2-3tb storage.

Also, is it worth it to get a pcie ssd, or is sata 6gb/s good enough?

I'm building my first comp, and I'm looking to spend no more than 1200usd

I could stand having just the icons in the menu with no text but that app list is just revolting, I can't fathom why they don't let you disable or at least hide it.

how to tweak and hack pcsx2?

70% through downloading tekken5, then i'll check it out

>need some recs for a decent, entry level hdd- around 2-3tb storage.
Western Digital Green series

>Also, is it worth it to get a pcie ssd, or is sata 6gb/s good enough?
Depends on how much resource-heavy gaming you do and whether booting a couple seconds faster matters to you.

thank you

I should add that my system is windows 7 ultimate
processor is Intel core i3-2310 @2.10
3gb ram
intel hd graphics 3000

This is why I was so surprised when I saw that guy playing budokai 3 with no problem because our systems are supposed to be identical, by this I shouldn't be having any problems either, unless I am missing something.

Looking for a bit of help here. On my other LG phone also running Android 6.0.1, there is an option to encrypt the microSD card. On my current Moto X Pure, there is none. What gives? How do I go about encrypting the SD card then?

Seems the only fix people talk about online is formatting the card for use as adaptive storage and that is just fucking stupid.

that's not a very powerful setup

like i said, different games have different requirements

94%

My program has a bunch of "assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast" errprs and I can't find a way to get rid of them without also breaking the program.

I know this probably looks horrible, I'm new to C and programming in general... Any help?

pastebin.com/SWRBNjnU

>and that is just fucking stupid

Why? If you're encrypting the contents of the card with your phone they're only going to be accessible from that phone anyway. And adaptive storage integrates with the system way better.

If you're still running lollipop that could be your problem.

Because while my microSD card isn't shit, I don't trust making my microSD as part of internal storage because of the differences in quality of flash memory. Plus I use my microSD card to make full phone backups etc.

And I'm on Android marshmallow. (6.0.1)

I agree, the only reason I got this laptop is because a friend told me the cpu can be easily upgraded. I guess I should start looking into that now.

>piece = wht[i]
You're assigning a pointer to a character to a single character. Try piece = &wht[i]. That'll set piece to point at wht[i].

What's the fastest SATA or PCI-E SSD out right now?
Consumer SSD.

>sata
850 pro from Samsung.
>Pcie/nvme
Intel 750 series. Best option if you have the coin. Aluminum heatsink and backplate so you don't thermal throttle

Samsung 950 pro nvme m.2 series. Fast but hot running.

then piece gets the wrong value though

is there some kind of workaround that'll let me pass the character into piece?

Samsung 950 or 850. If you're not in a rush I'd recommend waiting for 960, it's even faster than 950.

well i get a pretty slow ~50% in game with stock settings and software rendering on my 3.9GHz 8320
i'll play with some settings

>then piece gets the wrong value though
What. What value are you trying to set it to?

Total bros. I love you guys taking the time to answer questions. I feel guilty for not browsing through here attempting to answer questions.

It's fine user. There are enough of us to help each other out (usually).

I'm gonna guess they just opted not to include that feature on that model. LG is wonky about that shit. Aside from a custom rom or a third party app you're probably out of luck

I'm trying to set it to whatever the character in wht[i] is. In that case, a capital letter.

You are good guys. I hold you in high esteem. Silent heros.

Piece is a pointer to a character. piece = &wht[i] makes it so that the character it points at is whichever one is found at wht[i]. If you ever call *piece in the future it'll return the same character as if you'd written wht[whatever i was when you set piece].

I dont want to make a new thread for this.

What should I upgrade so that my HTC vive gets more FPS?

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 @ 3.40 GHz
RAM: 8GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
Motherboard: ASRock B75 Pro3-M
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

ah, I see now.

thanks.

holy fuck that ram is really slow. Not sure if that'll make a significant difference though.
I would do some investigation into how much the ram speed impacts vr, and if it isn't that much then I think you should go with a new gpu.

You sure you're not missing a 1 in front of that ram speed number?

Making a home server for backing up my computer and storing torrents and other bullshit. Research has lead me to xubuntu or debian for this task, which should I do and if neither can you lead me in the right direction? Newfag to Linux but comfortable with command line.

One more thing, I have another error about making a comparison between a pointer and integer

if(wht[i] == NULL)

What is the proper way to do this?

lost

Oh right it's probably dual channel and that 665 is just for one channel.

I'd go for GPU upgrade first, put something like 1070 or 1080 in there if you can afford it. 8GB of ram is good enough for now, you'll replace it with DDR4 when upgrading the CPU anyways.

Dual channel is different from double data rate

bit faster with the EE rate turned up, interestingly enough
still a pretty slow game, you'll want a fast CPU for this one

I'm assuming you're trying to check if the array has any more elements? You're going to want to check if i is greater than the length of the array, written as sizeof(wht)/sizeof(char)

The stupid blender question to end all stupid blender questions:

I have finished my project, the audio desync was tied to the framerate

Now I need a watermark. Sounds simple enough, boot up Fireworks, type something, transparent canvas, save as PNG, drop it on Blender but the image is obscuring all my videos

Tutorials tell me to go to a Edit Strip menu and change the Blend to Alpha Over but I have no idea of where to find this cause my layout is different from what's being used

It's past 5AM and I just want to sleep

disregard that, I'm an idiot.

last error I'm getting: array subscript has type 'char' [-Wchar-subscripts]

About when should my video card's temperature start worrying me?
My Sapphire Radeon (I think 270) is starting to see temperatures in the low 150F area from more modern games if I set it to higher graphics, although it's not going in the orange according to Speccy.
Is this acceptable, or should I start toning it down on the performance?

>measuring temps in F
You should be concerned when you start going above 80

I've been having the same problem actually. My makeshift fix is to use a speed control on the video clip to speed it up so the end of the video matches up with the end of the audio. Also, if you aren't already, make sure to turn AV syncing on at the bottom, it's a trick I recently learned.

Any way to get a windows 10 key? Or at least activate it by using other means

fuck... it sounds like the only game i can play is ffx, thanks anyway.

Yes

Any old windows 7 or windows 8 key can be turned into a windows 10 install via Otherwise, piracy or buying it. Would not recommend either.

It's all I know, my dude.
>80
Celsius, I assume. Good, I've gone nowhere near that so far. Thanks user

not quite full speed, but playable

i'm only using pcsx2 1.4.0, tried to compile the latest but it failed

You knew what i meant user...
:^)
You dont need to compile it yourself, there's a site that does that for you.

buildbot.orphis.net/pcsx2/

>
:^)
leave

those are only windows builds

Oh shit I suck at this

>tfw can't play vidya games

i have pcsx2 1.2.1 should i even bother upgrading right now or is it pointless?

I thought you were using Windows 7. But yeah it's only windows for now. There were linux versions too IIRC but it was a waste of server resources because people werent interested in them.

the guy who's asking questions is running win7

you should try the latest stable (1.4.0) as well as the latest dev build, to see how they run
typically with emulators, the newer the better, both for compatibility and performance

please respond

How can I get my terminal to do a little countdown before a screenshot on Arch?

scrot has a command line option for that, RTFM

Do Noctua fans ever go on sale? They're pretty good, but the most I'll pay per fan is 15 bucks.

I'm trying to overclock an R9 280. Is there any benefit to raising the memory clock speed, or is it better to just increase the core clock speed as much as possible?

Just sell it and get a cheap Fury.

Nope. They're good but you're paying a premium for that goodness. If you want something cheaper then buy some other brand, they're not that bad if you do some research first.

Do they make mPCIe h.265 video accelerators?

I'd maybe get a Fury if the price drops below $200. Otherwise, not really interested in buying a new video card right now.

Don't forget their warranty.
Budget, go for yate loons or scan some typhoons if you can.

I've still got one of the original (2006~) NF-12S's going strong in my media server. I need to swap it for something pushing a bit more oomph, since the NMB's are probably sucking in air through it, but I can't bring myself to do it.

I don't own a SSD. Are they ENTIRELY silent? They make no noise whatsoever? The SATA, PCI-E, and Enterprise SSDs?

Absolutely no moving parts. Think of it like a really big really fast flash drive.

Memory speed doesn't have much of an impact on performance, but on the other hand memory units are seperate from the main GPU. So if you overclock the memory it doesn't directly stress the gpu, allowing you to overclock both of them at the same time.

They do not contain any mechanical parts that would make noise. They're pretty much same as USB sticks or memory cards except bigger and better.

Thank you. What hardware components make noise then? The CPU, SSD, RAM, and mother board don't make ANY noise, correct?
GPUs, HDs, cooling units, and power units make noise, correct?
Is there a big noise difference between fan and water cooling setups?
Is there a website comparing relative noise differences between hardware?
I would like a completely silent computer setup.

Will my PC be able to run Resident Evil 6? I want to do co-op with my friend since we don't do much anymore and I just wanna talk to him.

My i5 is OC to 4.3ghz and my 760 isn't OC'd at all.
Also wondering if I should move on to Windows 10 or whatever. Thanks in advance.

...

Just things with moving parts such as mechanical drives and fans.

Hey guys, my laptop stopped working overnight, it turns on and the fan starts spinning, but there's not output and the caps lock key doesn't flash or turn on when i press it. I tried changing ram slot and plugging it in an hdmi monitor, but still nothing happening. Any ideas? Thanks

PCI-E 4.0 when?

New CPU socket when?

A few years before it's necessary, so not for a few more years

Chokes, coils and other inductive components make noise, too.

Your hardware exceeds the recommended specs
There's not many reasons to install windows 10 over 7 or 8.1

Fans/cooling is the main source of noise in computers. This usually includes PSU, Graphic card, processor cooler and case coolers. Some of these have fanless versions but your main goal is to buy quiet fans and keep enough air flowing through your case so that you dont need to rev those fans to high speeds.

You could also try to use noise dampening coating in your case, it'll help reducing annoying sounds.

Can I turn off the display of my windows 10 laptop without it going to sleep? I was wondering if I can do it manually `

You can set it so that closing the lid turns the display off but doesnt cause the computer to go to sleep. But if you mean turning the display with a button combination then that's not possible, at least not through windows.

yeah i want it to work like android where i play music and turn off the display manually

Are all DDR4 sticks created equal? Is there a performance difference between brands? 8GB of 2133MHz DDR4 performs the same whatever the brand?

>put another way
If you have two DDR4 with the same specs (let's say 8GB 2133MHz) from one brand, will it perform identical to another brand? Is it pretty cut and dry with RAM, or are there real world performance differences between DDR4 with the same specs? If so, how do you make an informed decision to choose a certain brand over another? Are there RAM benchmarks? I saw an infographic on Cred Forums a month ago that compared different DDR4 based on weird criteria terms that I didn't understand. I presumed it was a troll image, but does RAM performance really differ that much to warrant an infographic?

If the clock speed and cas latencies are the same it should perform the same

There are two factors in memory performance: frequency and latency. If those are identical then they will have the same performance. Might have differences in reliability/failure rates but nothing significant.

This has always bugged me. We are at an active point in computer history, where every year tremendous improvements are being made to hardware, which filters down to the consumer market, meaning better GPUs, better memory, faster Internet speeds, just better and better. But, surely at some point, and it must be right around the bend, 90% of people are not going to need or want better computer components as extreme hardware will become as affordable as low-range components. Once people are able to boot up their computer instantaneously, copy/paste files instantaneously, watch 4k graphics without issue, and store a large amount of files without bother; then where else is there to go? As it is now, some people can afford 2* Nvidia GTX 1080s, and some opt for cheaper GPUs. But in the future, won't it be the case that most people will have the same hardware, the same capacities as everyone else. Then what? Does the adventure end? Where else is there to go with computer hardware? Will people chill out and stop talking about the hardware altogether, and focus on using the computer instead? Or will there be some major advancement that will bring us to the bottom climb once more, now clutching to each tiny development in a new paradigm?

What I'm asking in a nutshell is; at some point, everyone will be satisfied with how their computer performs, yes? What will happen after that?

Is the practice of custom computer building going to change considerably or become obsolete in the future 15 years?
Is desktop computing itself going to change considerably or become obsolete in the future 15 years?

dude weed

manufacturers purposely create standards they intend to make obsolete over and over and over

its a big maymay that never stops

We're already hit the point where performance does not matter to casual users. If all you do is watch movies, browse internet and maybe use office applications then powerful hardware doesn't help at all. Tablets were supposed to be "the PC of tomorrow" but they flopped hard. I'm predicting someone will spin those in a way that makes them attractive to casual users and finally get rid of cheap PC's.

Enthusiasts will always need more performance and better hardware though, so nothing's gonna change in that regard. The big question is that can video games remain as the pushing force for better performance. Games are getting more and more expensive to develop, and eventually we'll reach a point when it's no longer feasible to push for better graphics and bigger games. Unless someone figures a way to make development cheaper, that is.

Why do so many people prefer wms like i3 instead of a "normal" wm?

Is there any sense turn old computer into router?

buying a new monitor, should I go IPS or keep it with TN? money isnt really an issue

Woudnt recommend it. It'll just eat electricity and shit noise & heat into your room for no benefit. You can try building one just to see how it works but I'd toss it into a bin after a week.

So, today my computer was making a weird noise, and upon booting my computer, ai received a "CPU Fan Error". So I opened the case and detached the heatsink/cpu cooler to remove the dust. I don't have the proper tools for that, so I didn't get far before giving up and attempting to put the heatsink/cpu cooler back on. Unfortunately I have no idea how these pins work, and now when I put it back it is only held by what I assume to be the thermal paste. Needless to say, when I turned the case back to the vertical the CPU fell down

How do I attach the cooler/heatsink back to where it was?

There could be a support bracket on the other side of the motherboard that the screws attact to. So you might have to remove the whole motherboard to get that bracket in place. Hard to say anything else without knowing which model is it or what kind of screws it uses.

Next time don't remove it, just blow dust away with compressed air cans.

If I run a Pi as an entertainment pc runnung kodi/kodibuntu/whatever attached to a big screen for watching videos/series/movies, what's a good way to host all the content? Should I consider a usb attached hard drive enclosure, a nas over ethernet/wifi, or something else entirely?

Thank you very much! The bracket was on the other side, but the case has another "opening" so I didn't have to remove the mother board.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy compressed air or something similar to remove the dust. Until then I'll leave the computer off

Thank you for your help!

Why does Cred Forums sometimes not create my thread and bounce me back to the catalog screen. Is it some sort of filtering thing?

How can I disable notification peeking globally for all apps on Android 6?

This is my first time on Android and already annoying as fuck: quick reply notifications either pop up in foreground while typing in some other app or they can't be dismissed and completely lock up the phone so I have to restart it.

That's got more to do with apps being suspended in background.

I could utilize over a thousand GTX 1080s at full load for the next two years before the work load is done*. You are vastly underestimating words like "instantaneously" and "most people".

It's going to be way longer that 15 years before demand goes down.

Any way to get rid of this "Unable to use fingerprints after restarting device. Enter password." prompt on my Galaxy S5? Only started seeing it after a recent firmware update got pushed a few weeks ago, before then it had no problem unlocking with fingerprint after a restart, now it wants my password for the first unlock (and fingerprints for each subsequent one until I turn it off again before going to sleep). Annoying to say the least, whole reason I even used the fingerprint thing was because entering a password on my phone is hella annoying.

>Why wouldn't it be?
Think about it, user is making unauthorised copies of a program for piracy. That's piracy^2 or hyperpiracy.

I think you get the chair for that.

>why is my brother's pc not recognizing the fact that it has an ethernet cable plugged into it?
Because the other end isn't plugged into anything?

Or the card is fucked or doesn't have drivers etc.

Also another thing, the lock screen text you can set, for some reason now it only appears AFTER the phone has been unlocked (so it will go back to home screen with a swipe) so if it is still locked it won't show. Completely defeats the whole fucking purpose of me putting my contact info in there so that if someone finds my phone they might feel like doing me a solid and getting in touch with me.

How do I get a function to give me an output for every iteration of my for-loop in matlab.

example:

what i want as output:
1 3 6 10 15
what i get as output:
15 15 15 15 15

thanks

I don't know the answer to your queston, but just note that size != quality. You can have large files with shit quality, it all comes down to compression and the quality of the source.

That's what I was thinking, but then what's the point of the WEB-DL?
Both files are from the same uploader, but the WEB-DL always has a larger size, and is uploaded after the HDTV.
If it's lower in quality too then what the fuck's the point of it.

What sort of output are you using? If S/PDIF or HDMI, make sure your receiver is set up properly and does in fact support DTS

Post your code

Depends on the source. WEB-DL may be better if the original source was 1080p instead of 720p/1080i from HDTV.

noip.com? Havent used it myself but I've seen people use it every now and then.

ideal output:1 3 6 10 15
iteration: 1 2 3 4 5

sum1 = 0;
vektor = ones(1,length(x));
for n = 1:length(x);
sum1 = sum1+x(n);

end
end

but i get
15 15 15 15 15 if i input 1:5 instead of 1 3 6 10 15

I have 2x4Gb 1866MHz ram.
Will it make a difference if I buy another 2x4gb 1866MHz or replace everything and buy 2x8gb 1866?

That is what I'm saying. For HDTV in particular, broadcasts are often 1080i, which isn't very efficient or convenient.

You're currently assigning the same value to every entry in the output vector by your sum = sum1*vektor; line, change to assigning one value of sum at a time, i.e. sum(n) = something.

Not quite sure what your algorithm's input is supposed to be.

just adding another pair of 4GB 1866 sticks should be fine.

Presuming you've got top of the line RAM, SSD/HDD, and GPU, is the CPU the sole component responsible for outputting a video rendering in lightning time? I render a 40min 1080p video @5200kbps, and it takes one hour to process. During that time, the CPU processing leaps to 100% constant, but the RAM, SSD/HDD, and GPU are not doing much. Is it true to say that the CPU is the component primarily responsible for rending files in lightning fast times?

Q2. I'm using a 2.66 GHz quad-core processor. Is it possible to merge the processing power of SEVERAL CPUs in the one computer? Could you merge 10 CPUs together, for example? I know of course, that it would be unconventional, and not for the average consumer. But is it possible, and has it been done, and how would you go about doing it?

Help me out here Cred Forums. What are examples of high intensive computer tasks? Tasks that really stress out your computer hardware? Such as video editing, 3D rendering, playing the latest video game at max settings. Give me as many examples as you can think of. Bonus points if you give me weird ones that stress out a otherwise neglected piece of hardware (like RAM).

Which is the best 256gb usb stick right now? I'm looking at the sandisk ultra, but the recent reviews say it has a bad speed.
What's a good alternative?

what do you guys think about engineering sample processors? I'm looking at an X99 motherboard and Xeon ES off ebay, but are they worse than retail CPUs?

Depends what you're doing, for some rendering workflows the GPU can be more important.

You can use multiple CPUs together, you use a motherboard with multiple sockets. Been a thing since the 90s. However, moar cores isn't always going to help.

Gotcha
Thanks for the info

>What are examples of high intensive computer tasks?
That sounds like an assignment.

Bitcoin mining is an easy answer and dedicated miners used specialised mobos with lots of GPUs and used the GPUs for parallelised code execution.

Which is the usual way that people or companies handle intensive tasks like that without having super-computers.

Render farms are often just a stack of servers that have lots of GPUs in them doing the hard work in parallel.

Mr Silicon Robot

Probably port forwarding or the firewall on the new modem.

How do I break a previous windows installation. For some reason my bios keeps trying to boot into an old installation of Windows and that windows installation is fucked up so every time I turn on my computer it sits through windows automatic repair. Every time I turn my PC on I have to spam f12 to force it into the correct installation despite the correct one being the default.

This is particularly fucking annoying for Microsoft's forced updates because I have to sit here and watch the fucking thing reboot and make sure it picks the correct windows installation to boot into.

Get a Northface backpack, extremely comfortable and good.

Should I get an SSD? I never power off my machine, and I feel like my drives are quick.

What would be some benefits?

Yes if you can afford it.
Doesnt matter.

SSDs are way, but way faster than HDDs, the problem is the $/GB ratio.
Otherwise they are superior in every way.

I'm trying to make three activities in Android Studio, How do I do this?

I could afford one, just don't know if I can justify the cost of one.

I really want one but how much snappier is it really than something like a WD Blue drive?

What does it mean when somebody calls a piece of tech a meme?

That has something to keep talking about it.

But why a backpack? Wouldn't it be better to get a messenger bag for the laptop?

No lol, that is pretty fucking gay anyways. A backpack is more comfortable and even has a laptop slot.

I thought backpacks are pretty gay, especially if you're nearing your mid 20's.

Well they aren't

Alright then, which one of these is gayer, a 25 year old male wearing a small backpack or a 25 year old male wearing a laptop bag.

Also, which northface backpack should I go for then?

In android studio I am trying to make three blank activities using onclickbuttonlistener, how do I go about doing this?

Laptop bag really is fucking gay, back packs are fine.

I recommend the Jester backpack, it's so good! I have the newest one and it has very nice padding and distributes weight nicely. It's a good bag.

That's a woman's backpack, son.

No it isn't you retard, fucking shit. Do whatever the fuck you want faggot, I tried to give you advice.

The about:addons-memory extension for Firefox doesn't seem to be working.
Does anyone know of another method to check the memory status of the addons installed?

What's the best browser lads?

Does it have enough space to fit in a laptop as well as a 1,5L bottle of water and some snacks/notebook?

In Raw speed? 4-5 times faster(550MB/s against the 110MB/s of the average HDD), in operations per second? thousand times faster(300IOPS vs 70K IOPS).

TLDR; they are way faster and worth it than a HDD.

Yes it has a lot of space. Has to side pockets so you could put 2 bottles.

What benefits would I see? I am gonna use it as an OS drive.

Everything would load/open right away, literally everything.
Internet browsing would be different since everything loads instantly.

Except some heavy programs, photoshop would take around 3 seconds, you wont have to wait to open anything.

Honestly I think that I can do all of that just fine. My experience with this HDD has been very pleasant, loads everything quickly.

Then other than that there is no benefit, the point of a SSD is to get rid of the load times since everything loads right away.
Does wonders on old computers.

But if you think your computer is fast enough then you dont need it, but once you use a SSD you dont go back.

After 6 hours of sleep I decided to try Sony Vegas after dealing with Blender on a saga depicted on this thread (that ended in a question nobody could answer )

MP4 files just don't load on Vegas. Everyone on google says to install the k-lite coded pack (which was already installed) and/or QuickTime which I just did but it didn't work

Who knew stitching some videos up and putting a watermark would be this hard

How bad is sudden power loss for an SSD?

I am going to keep all my games in my HDD and OS and important programs like Chrome will be in the SSD.

Not a problem for modern SSDs, even less with high end ones.

Fuck man... Don't know if I should or shouldn't.

They are worth it, low end ones not so much because they fail fast.
With a 240GB one is more than enough.

I was really liking this one

Yes

Try to look for a 850 EVO, newegg has them for $95 IIRC.

Doesn't have basically the same speeds of the Crucial one? Why Samsung?

Because the kind of memory they use, the 850 EVO will last you way more than the the crucial one because Samsung 3D-NAND>TLC.

Also no, the speeds are different.

I will look into it man, I will probably buy one soon.

Try asking for some info about which one get in the build thread or here in /sqt/ but almost everyone will tell you to get a 850 EVO.

Will do. Thanks a lot man.

I really do like the Samsung drive, I know it's good quality.
