I want to buy the HP Spectre, 6th gen intel i7, pretty pricey, somewhere around 1000 dollars, but I'm really just gonna be animating and doing art bullshit with krita so i dont know if thats a good choice. I may be dealing with video editing too.

For anything CPU intensive in a laptop you should look for one with a HQ model CPU, those are the quad cores.

So Quad Core is what I should be scouting out most, thank you.

So Cred Forums, what's a good public tracker for TV Shows? I have a good few for Anime and Games but not really fo tv shows.

What does my isp see when I connect via tor or a vpn?

How do I reboot into the bootloader on Android devices? Both the devices I have, if I hold power and volume down, it just boot-loops. If I hold them both but release power after it turns on, it won't go to bootloader, it starts up normally. If I turn it on and then hold volume down, it boots up normally. If I turn it on, release power, and then press and hold power+volume down, it boot-loops. What the fuck am I doing wrong.

A VPN tunnel.

who holds the records as the fastest programmer?

tor: a connection to an arbitrary port containing encrypted/unknown data to first first node in your tor circuit, if it's a listed node, they can assume that connection is being used for tor, but that's the extent of what they can tell
vpn: a connection to the port your vpn server is using, containing encrypted/unknown data

either way they can only see metadata like ips and ports, not what data is actually going over these connections

tor is especially useless, as they can only see the ip/port of the first node in your circuit, and not the true destination of what you're accessing

Is there any merit to:

>imaging your hard drive
>encrypting it
>splitting it into 15GB chunks
>uploading it to multiple Google Drive or various cloud accounts

I have way too much shit and the drive's SMART has been blowing warnings for a long time.

.

Every device is different. You need to look up instructions for your particular model. Try XDA. And you're not trying to load "the bootloader", you're probably trying to get into recovery.

What type of VPN you're using, who you're connecting to, how much traffic you're sending and receiving, and when. They can often tell what type of traffic you're sending, and if they really cared they could take an educated guess at what pages you're viewing.

I'm up for one more good and stupid question. HP, Lenovo, or Dell. I hope the correct manufacturer is HP, or Lenovo, or does it matter really?

Just don't get lenovo

Right, recovery, that. But yeah, everything is saying that this is the way to do it for both the Cat S60 and HTC 10.

Not good I assume?

The kings of malware.

Thanks.
And the vpn service provider knows exactly what I've done?

yes, if they were so inclined, the vpn provider can see and log everything you do on it, and that can be linked back to you (unless you pay with bitcoin and only access it over tor, which probably defeats the purpose)

Ah, got it. I just need to break out of this dumb mentality that just because the schools I went to didnt know how to fuckin set-up Dell Desktops correctly doesnt make Dell shit lol.

Yes. They're also in a pretty good position to MITM you, and they're generally no oversite, so it's pretty hard to validate any of their claims of things like privacy or safety.

Well I don't like dealing with them as a company, but the hardware itself is generally pretty high quality.

Yeah, that was my dads only real problem with dell was customer service.

What's a good app to send free text messages to someone?
Don't wanna get whatsapp because it tells everyone in my contacts I have it.

Just wanna text someone for free

Hangouts

NEVER go Tor > VPN.
Always do VPN > Tor.
Any VPN, even when paid with buttcoins, has way more personal information about you, and can also MITM all your Tor traffic, which defeats its purpose.
If you go VPN>Tor, the only thing the provider could find out about your traffic is that it goes through Tor.

Hangouts, Pushbullet

What the fuck.
A 3TB drive costs like $50.

Anything else? I just wanna send SMS and MMS, not sign up with Facebook. Or do video chat or some shit

yea, wasn't very clear
only sending tor traffic over the vpn

but that still likely defeats the purpose, i presume the people using third party vpns (not work or personal where you're using them to access internal services, aka, the proper use for vpns) is for a faster alternative to tor, which doesn't really work out, as you're relying on the vpn provider to not look at or log your traffic (only transmitting tor traffic defeats their ability to do this)

Why do I have to upload my ID to buy buttcoins?

So that NSA can track you and bust you if you try to buy drugs.

Just go and buy a new hard drive, nigga.

Hey guys. I uninstalled 4chanX and now I can only post properly in incognito mode. What gives? How do I purge 4chanX from Chrome completely?

Does anybody know how I can fix this? I can't use the Steam store.

delete everything in your steam folder except for steamapps, then reinstall steam

Processing 2 stopped working.

If i have some of the good kind of porn on my harddrive that's stopped working, is it unsafe to leave it to a company that recovers the information?
Most of the good stuff is encrypted but a pic or two might lie on the big folder of normal porn.

Are the meme Intel features one get by choosing a core i7 instead of a i5 really worth it?
I don't know much about what these and assumed that these only target very specific users but a friend argued I might benefit from these even if I don't know. I intend to run Matlab, opengl and R on a daily basis and compile "heavy stuff" regularly but not as often.

kill yourself pedo

The only benefit you will get of an i7 over a i5 is hyperthreading, and potentially better overclocking(as the i7 chips are cherrypicked to be more stable, as the chips trickle down to the i5 and i3 SKUs). If you don't care about overclocking and the integrated GPU of the processor, but want hyperthreading, you could just get the Xeon equivalent of the i7(it's just an i7 without an iGPU)

Hyperthreading is only useful if you intend to be doing a fuck-ton of tasks at once. But, overall, it won't increase overall performance at all.

oh yeah and the Xeon without the iGPU is the same price as a i5 but has hyperthreading, forgot to mention that

how can I run a c++ program with a command line on windows?

Telegram if you can get past the stale memes and lack of security. Other than that it's pretty solid.

Are there any raid cards that support 0, 1 and JBOD for 4 drives at max SATA-3 bandwidth that don't cost a fortune?
So far I've only found the Broadcom MegaRAID SAS 9341-4i, but that has a bandwidth cap of 12Gb/s (2 drives) and is a tad expensive.

The console is just the results of the projects I was running in it, no error logs, nothing in win event viewer, it does the same thing with processing 3 as well.

There is no way your kiddie porn collection is worth the kind of money that data recovery companies ask for.

>Cherry picked meme

No they are picked to mean i7specs that has no outcome on overclocking.

Purchase advice needed.

Country: Australia
Carrier: Telstra
Budget: $200 AUD or less
Features needed: 4G, SD Card slot, size is unimportant

Basically just need a cheap but competent phone that will be used primarily for phone calls, texting and Facebook messenger. No games, videos will be used.

Leaning towards the ZTE Blade V6 or the Kogan Agora 6, but if there's a better option you know of please let me know.

Phone only needs to last 2 to 3 weeks while my actual phone is getting repaired.

Not sure if this was more suited to the smartphone general thread, so I posted it there as well.

I tried this but the problem remains, thanks for the suggestion though

Why not just buy a prepaid phone and live with that for a while?

I meant stuff like Intel® vPro Technology
Intel® TSX-NI
Intel® Stable Image Platform Program (SIPP)
Trusted Execution Technology

I don't care about overclocking but I want the iGPU. It's gonna be a laptop CPU that I intend to push from time to time.

How i use dwb browser?

Fixed it.

Which email service should I use for a throwaway mailbox for registration?

I wanted to get a semi decent phone so I can give it to my mum when I'm done with it, as she does not currently have a mobile phone.

Go down the line of the Xperia Z range until you find one under $400.

Got my Z2 on kogan too.

Try this:

Win+R
type cmd
type in the location of the program e.g. C:\programs\folder\program.exe

10minutemail or guerrilamail are the ones I use.

All those features do absolutely nothing for performance. Trusted Execution Technology is actually a backdoor advertised as a feature

How do I get the smell of semen out of my room?

Open your windows, turn on a fan, clean your bedsheets and pillow cases.

Put a plant or air freshener in there

That was my assumption but the other party claimed that these might be used without me knowing it.

Here are the CPU I am comparing ark.intel.com/compare/88193,88192
We both agreed that the price of the i7 is inflated but he really insisted on that these are Intel features are a real advantage. Also said that that "a core i7 is more that more cache and faster max frequency, features aside" and told me to look at the number of operations per second (flop) but no such details on the specs

he's bullshitting you on the features. although the higher cache and frequency does give you quite the boost in performance, especially since it's a mobile chip

The extra cache would improve the performance but it's not worth the money.

Change sheets, store dirty laundy elsewhere and air out your room.

If your computer chair smells of semen, ass sweat, shit or farts then you're fucked and need to replace it. You could try washing/changing the seat cover but it's usually a bitch to get out and even harder to put back on. Try to wear clean underwear when on computer and consider using a seat cover.

I'd be doing it for all the other stuff. I guess it's mostly save games, funny images and stuff for nostalgia so maybe it's not worth it.
I haven't looked at any prices, maybe it's a lot.

>using a seat cover.
removable seat cover, that is

I just bought an ssd and installed windows on it but how the hell to i get rid of the old windows now?
It's a partition on my hdd and it won't let me remove it, do i have to uninstall windows from it or something?

You can use AOMEI partition editor to delete the partition and resize your main one to use up all the space on your drive

>cpu boots fine and I can even get to bios bare bones
>connect everything in place
>cpu refuses to boot

What causes this to not work? I checked every wire, they're all in place tight. I can't understand why it won't boot because I plugged in more shit

Anyone knows what's a free library that I can use to display a responsive gallery of images (both landscape and portraits) that may be clicked on to enlarge? Ideally a layout like pic related

What's a scenario these features might come handy? We were talking about opengl and optimizing the compilation for the CPU.

Anyway, this core i7 is too expensive for what I assume it as worth (not a CPU expert though). Especially since the price difference is about $100 and lenovo charges $300 for the upgrade.

The meme status of lenovo makes them the smoothest laptops for Linux compatibility but they are worse niggard than Apple when it comes to pricing.

Disk management should be able to remove partitions from it and stuff. If that doesn't work then you need to use a seperate program that boots from disk, bypassing windows and anything it tries to do.

I guess it's failing because you had fast resume on and windows doesn't want to fuck that up by accessing the filesystem.

Are you getting any beeps or light flashes from motherboard? Could be that you somehow damaged it with static electricity while moving parts around.

Yes, light on motherboard turns on (not flashes, turns on) but the cpu fan fails to spin.

Bootstrap plus some javascript.
There's really not that much to it.

In general you want to use disk management. Although since you installed instead of cloning, there's a chance the bootloader for both drives is on the HDD, in which case things get a little trickier.

Trying to use NVIDIA's DDS tools (developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop) but when I try to open a DDS file I get this using photoshop cs6

what do?

I inherited a laptop that has HP ProtectSmart and want to change the hard drive, is it tough to do this? It's a DV5, I haven't even opened the hard drive slot yet because I read the ProtectSmart thing and got scared.

Check the motherboard manual to see what signals it gives when booting fails. Sounds like its either bad mobo or PSU or some improperly connected cable somewhere.

Is there any way to see if there is anyone trying to connect to my wireless network?

Your router page usually tells you.

Just reinstall Chrome I guess

>Windows file sharing and inheritance

Basically I need to share a folder but I don't want to share a singe folder within that folder.

Like how do I find a vulnerability in a network.
Hi guys. I'm a guy who wants to learn more about Network Security. I've been practicing it at home. But my prof told me that I need to check for vulnerabilities in a network. Like how the fuck am I supposed to do that?

Be thankful I wrote in English. Not a native speaker.

Okay so let's say a reference RX480 has 1120 base clock speed. And then the after market ones have like 1316 and whatnot and can probably be clocked even further. Do those 200 MHz really make such a big difference in performance?
I mean, CPUs that get overclocked from 3.5 to 4.5 is quite a lot but this is just like 200 MHz.

Welp, there's three devices connected to my network: my phone, my PC and one I can not identify.

Is it something I should worry about? I got deauthenticated (or, I got kicked off my network) thirty minutes ago.

The network is WPA2 protected and hidden.

Probably not. Doesn't hurt to change your password occasionally.

Sure it isn't something like a 3DS or a TV connected as well? Anyway, it lets you block devices by MAC address if you're worried.

Thank you for your reply.

I can't think of anything else that might have access to it. Only other device I gave access to my WiFi is my friend's phone, but he has not been here for a few days.

Now I am really curious as to what/who it may be.

Didn't work.

Read your book on how to do it. It should give you some examples

4.5/3.5 = 28%
1316/1120 = 17%

It could be the router itself. Beyond that just change the password, disable WPS, and copy down the mac addresses of new devices as you connect them to the network.

Does it say they're actively connected?

My router keeps a list of devices that have connected at any point in time.

So my pc just froze up but after making the sound of not being able to access the data when playing music.

Problem is i have important tabs open in private firefox. Is there any way to salvage them?

So I figured out that the CPU fan 3 pin thing was installed incorrectly, and I put it in the right place snug where the lines fit in the 4 pin one.

I still have booting up problems. I double checked everything, I'm 99% sure everything is in the right place. The first time I tried to boot, the power button on my case flashed blue. Every other time I tried after that nothing has happened. Am I fucked? There is no information about one flash of blue on the case specifically in any manual

how can i disable firefox start page advertisements?

ublock, adblock - tell them to block the elements
stylish - write css to hide them
new tab home page - set your new tab to google
sticky notes - cover up the ads

Are there any FOSS download managers Cred Forums would recommend? The usual non-free choices always seem so fishy

What torrent site is good nowadays?

It is not the router itself, I checked its MAC address.

WPS already was disabled but I will change the password. Thanks for your help.

My router shows how much time the DHCP lease has left, and it has approximately as much time left as my phone and PC.

hiding it sounds kinda hacky
i guess i could just use a different start page

i use these:
thepiratebay.org
idope.se
rutracker.net

Private ones

I'm trying to put some var into an array in js to use a for to test the values... what i find on google doesn't work desu. Can someone help me ?

Yup, if you're ok with non-graphic software, you can give a try to Aria2

Could be one device listed twice, like if your PC has wifi and ethernet, or if you have 5ghz on your router.

I have a simple .PHP script that outputs X number of files, how can I place this output to show in my index.html?

i dont know how to use AJAX

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks. No idea why there's no download manager section on the wiki's recommended software article.

Is pic related difficult or is it a lighter read like a novel? Does it require some prior knowledge about something in particular?

Is this new thing?
It's been a while since the last time I used MEGA.
What's the bandwidth limit size now?
Wikipedia says the free accounts get
>50 GB of storage space (10 GB bandwidth per month)
Then what about non-registering users?

Is teknik Cred Forums approved?

pls help, Im desperate

Like 1.5GB a day I think. You can go around it if you use a download manager though

I was downloading a 1gb file yesterday and I got to the non-registered limit on 500mb

this is bullshit

kim went full jew an I hate him now

In Android studio I'm trying to have three buttons that start new activities, I have tried many different code variations without luck, Do I have to create the onCreate(Bundle savedInstance) inside the different java files?

I have a wireless mouse that doesn't like to connect to my laptop, It sometimes works, but then it stops working.

Kim has had nothing to do with MEGA for a long while now

Anyone know a decent file recovery program for a samsung s4 mini?

Sounds like way too much effort, there are easier ways to go about this.

>You can go around it if you use a download manager though
What download manger?
Also I doubt it's 1.5 GB a day.
I downloaded a 80 MB file and got the "exceeded bandwidth quota" in the middle of downloading a ~400MB file.
So I guess it's something between 250-300MB.
Agreed.
I had to register to continue the download.
the disturbing thing is how it keep logs of your sessions when you register.

Damn, did he sell?
Or start another service?
And what service to use now since MEGA is jew now.

Making a build and pcpartpicker says it'd use 405 watts, would buying a 500 watt psu be a risk? not overclocking btw

If you use MEGAsync it's 1.5GB a day, I think. I was downloading four 1GB files and it stopped halfway through the second one.
Have you been living under a rock? The chinks own MEGA now

He had to step down and distance himself from the company due to the criminal investigation and shit. Now he claims that some Chinese businessmen have taken over MEGA and that he's building a better version of it as soon as he has time to do that.

I could probably google this but I'm pretty tech illiterate
Is there any kind of modular motherboard? Is something like that even possible?
So if I feel like changing my AMD cpu for an Intel, I'd just have to replace the chipset module and keep the RAM/PCI-E/random USB and jacks the way they already are? Or even add half a dozen extra RAM slots just because?

Is there any good program to test if my keyboard is double-pressing when I hit some keys? I've noticed a lot on t or whatever recently and don't know if I'm clumsing or if it is my keyboard broke, shame if it is since it was an expensive mechanical.

To the guy in the thread that got pruned: Hope you see this, and hope that it helps.

Can you you actually get virus/trojans through eg javascript in the browser or is it only if you run downlaoded executable files?

How do I encrypt my computer's network, I don't want to get a vpn, I don't want to use a proxy, and I don't want to go through tor.

A PSU only pulls what it needs from the wall. The danger is in getting an underpowered PSU, not overpowered. If PCPP says 400W of usage, get a 650W PSU.

>Is there any kind of modular motherboard?
No.

Any notepad will do. Seee iif youu aree gettting anyy multiplle letterss there..

>MEGAsync
if it is owned by chinks, why are you downloading this?
Not a rock, but civil war.
>criminal investigation
What? the only criminal thing going on is that DMCA'd files are hashed and auto-remove from accounts.

Yes.

Yeah I just tested typing the alphabet, as well as rhythmically tapping the affected key and enter and it SEEMS fine but I don't know if it just doesn't occur often enough that I'm not seeing it... Oh well, I'll just keep an eye on it for a while.

Yes, you can get infected by just visiting a site. Usually it's through some flash vulnerability but javascript security holes are possible too.

There have been multiple cases where legitimate web pages have had malicious advertisements that infected people who visited them. That's why people recommend you to install ad blockers or noscript.

Could be a problem that affects specific program or even a certain web page.

Yeah I guess that's true, noticed it happening a few times on Steam when I was trying to post on forums there but not on here.

I once had problems filling a certain form on a web page because my keypresses were not registering. Turns out it was doing some retarded processing for every keypress and my typing was so fast I pressed next key before the previous keypress was processed.

Could be that you're double-tapping them by accident because your hands are shaking or whatever. Or that it only happens if you type in a certain way.

For my build I have a 600 watt psu and it handled pretty high overclocking cpu and gpu with no problems(partpicker said it only needed 400watts for it). This build is for a friend and I'm trying to keep cost down so I still want to know if 100 watts leverage is enough to not cause any problems when adding external usbs and shit.

What are the main big parts (CPU and GPU)?

It' s possible to connect to the same modem with two different PC with two type of Wi-Fi, one connected with 802.11 n and the other with 802.11 ac ?

Is life really worth living?

no

Anyone know how to force videos played in Chrome's default video player to pause/play when you click on them? As in, not to click on the button.

Yes, it's enough. These days 500W PSU can run pretty much any single-gpu configuration.

Depends on the modem.

No, but suicide just passes the agony to other people.

i5 6500 with an RX480

not by itself, you have to work (i.e. go out, get hobbies) to make it worth it

at least that's how i see it

You can't.
>watching videos on a web browser

Well, that sucks.

And the only thing I watch on the browser is the stuff I'm forced to, like Cred Forums webms.

Have a few questions about Chromebooks, as I'm interested in buying one for school.
How much does battery life decrease after installing Linux?
If I decide to install linux, do I have the option of going back to chrome OS?
If anyone also has any experience with these I would appreciate some advice on if they are worth buying.

Let's say we made a perfect copy of your brain and stuck it into a robot that would then go about its life doing stuff. Then every day we exchanged a single cell from the robot's brain with a cell in the same place in your brain. We keep doing this for billions of years until your original brain has been fully transferred into the robot body, and the robot's brain has been fully transferred into your body. Which body is your original consciousness in?

Should I tell my job interviewer that I watch a lot of anime when he asks my hobbies?

it's possible using javascript but i don't know any ready-made scripts for it

you should look in the chrome web store for an extension

search for "video player", "html5 video" or something like that

Will programming cease to be a specialized skill within the next few years and programmer jobs become like any other low paid menial labor?

Has it happened already?

A quality ~500W PSU should be fine.

Yes.

Thanks

No. Tell them you watch "shows".

No. And no.

Bumperino

The answer every cuck will give is 'not good programmers"

Yes

Ugh, I was hoping for a setting to enable under chrome://flags/ or something, a dedicated extension goes against my autism. How do people watch webms on Chrome? I don't get it.

Consciousness doesn't exist. The actions of you and every other human are simply determined by a series of electrical and chemical reactions taking place within the brain, in response to other electrical/chemical stimulus that are input by the sensory organs. The idea of an overriding "consciousness" sitting in the driver's seat and dictating your actions is nothing but an illusion.

If you don't want to get employed.

I don't know about chrome OS but windows beats linux easily in battery life comparisons. This is because linux is open-source and the developers working on it aren't that concerned about effiency. For example many drivers are usually very sloppily implemented but nobody cares as long as they work.

If you mean pajeet-tier programming then that is getting outsourced to india already. You'll find jobs if you specialize in something else than hacking together a barely-working java turd.

Also the "computers will soon program themselves" meme has been going since 60's.

There's still people getting paid a decent wage just to sit and a desk and input shit into excel spreadsheets all day. I doubt it's going to be an issue.

You can, see pic.

I am sorry. Major brainfart on my part.

I have a question about how webpages are generated.
I know you can create standalone html files which can be interlinked with anchors.
What if I wanted to create a bigger website with hundreds of thousands of pages?
Would they be generated upon request based on the database entries? Or would they have to be prepopulated somehow?
I never thought about it until now, I know it sounds stupid.

You mean router, and yes.

Doing the ssd+hdd combo. My ssd will not be large enough to store games on it. What's a decent hdd that's fast enough to run games on? Should I invest in a sshd?

This is static vs dynamic web pages thing. Back in the day most pages were static: someone wrote a html file and placed it in a server. These days most pages are dynamically generated for each request.

How this normally works is that someone creates a "blank" layout called template. Then the template is filled with "add content here" markers, and when the page is accessed a server program fills those markers with data from a database before sending the page to user.

>What's a decent hdd that's fast enough to run games on?
Any 7200 rpm drive is good enough. The different brands and stuff are more about reliability than speed.
>Should I invest in a sshd?
No, the fast access area is really tiny and you cant control what is placed in it. It's intended for OS use rather than data disk use.

WD Blue or Seagate Barracuda are the two models that are usually recommended here.

I want to buy a laptop that will last me years, has exceptional battery life and a 15" screen.
I need it to do research in machine learning and occasionally train models on the GPU.
I narrowed it down to xps15 and rMBP, but they both have their flaws, especially related to the OS (OSX is kinda locked, Windows 10 is kinda shit, Ubuntu is badly supported and the dev edition is only for xps13).
Gun to the head, what do I buy?

Thanks, I'll have to figure out how to make these dynamic pages work.

My 32 gigs sd card won't accept data i tried formating it but still, when i try putting music on it says that the sd card is full or damaged, i just want to get gaki no tsukai on it to watch on my job ;~;
Is there any way to make it accept stuff again? Or do i have to buy a new one?

Nothing you can do. Memory cards have limited lifespan and will eventually expire as you use them. Just buy a new one, they're not that expensive.

Should I bother partitioning my 1tb hdd?

I know i just wanted to see if there was a way to repair it, thank you user

i update my wangblows 10 to the anniversary update
and now everything looks really washed out as if its got some instagram filter on it, and CS:GO runs at 30fps and there is weird delay to everything i do
same with overwatch

i googled stuff, but nothing helped too much
i ran some shit that scanned for registry issues but nothing came up

any fix?
i can still do desktop stuff on my Debian partition but muh Cred Forumsidya calls me

How better is the 850 PRO against the 850 EVO?

Is there any phone app or computer mic software that does noise rejection like Amazon Echo? Or would I need an actual hardware array like Echo does?

Usually no, depend from to what you upgrade.

What are some cool but completely useless things I can run in a terminal emulator to impress people?

Is this real?

>dota2
I'm using i5-3570k that I bought 4 years ago and I can run dota2 maxed out.

what is the most visual pleasing distro?

it's made up of pixels on a screen so no

What is the difference between the big and small power buttons on the case?

My cpu starts when I press the bigger button, but nothing happens when I press the small one. The case manual doesn't say jack. Should I mess with the system panel controller things more to make both work?

Probably was RX 480.

Pro's main advatange is that it has longer lifespan. It also has some theoretical speed advatanges but they're both bottlenecked by SATA and the differences do not have any real-world impact.

It's usually a reset button. The idea is that you can press it to restart if even ctrl-alt-del doesn't save you. If it doesnt work then either it's not plugged in or you've disabled it through bios settings.

What GPU? Mine is an old ass hd radeon 5xxx so I think that might be a problem too

How feasible is it to use my home desktop as actual computing machine whilst using my t420 as "thin client" over the internet?
I need to run virtualization software for my masters degree, but my t420 can't run that for a bit. My desktop however does multiple virtualizers without a hitch.
How well would ssh -X be? Would it be usable?
Alternatives?

So the only benefit would be increased lifespan for $10 more?

quick question about overclock blck

if I oc a i5 6400 to 4,3ghz will it always stay at 4.3ghz? doesnt it "slow" down while idling to save energy?

I couldn't find this info on google

You cant OC a i5-6400.

yes, the power throttles. i have my 5960x oc'd to 4.5ghz and it usually idles around1500 or less

If you don't mind the huge-ass delay then it should be fine. Using mouse for anything will be a pain in the ass though.

Pretty much, yeah. Some slight speed/latency benefits too but nothing noticeable.

You should have K-branded processor for overclocking. But yes, it'll automatically underclock if there's nothing to do.

Are our eyes real?

Upgraded to windows 10 and now it takes about 5 minutes to even boot up, then when it finally does it freezes at the desktop with a low memory warning. Any ideas?

install 8.1

You are leaking memory, open task manager and check what is leaking it.

Reinstall windows 7-8.1.

Try rebooting with fast boot disabled.

>he fell for the meme

So, my components are overclocked and thus I also increased the voltage. I am aware that this is for stability's sake but why exactly does more voltage provide more stability? Is it so that the gate source voltage is higher in order to allow the CMOS' to toggle faster and to keep up with the frequency?

Really? Thank you.

Did you do it through bclk method?

I was afraid it would keep at 4.3ghz+ even while idle, that would suck.

But you cant read the temps accurately right?

Any important downsides I should note?

Is neo-vim a legit thing? Any reason for a vim user to cross over?

Forgot to ask, since I'm gonna oc it

Is there a difference picking up the 6500 instead of the 6400?

The only difference between those cpu's that I could find is that one is 2.7 / 3.2ghz and the other is 3.2 / 3.6 ghz

how far can i expect to overclock a 4790k with a 16 power phase vrm?

the overclock will only use more power once the machine actually needs it right? will much more power will that consume? it's insignificant in terms of power bill right?

How long a delay should I expect?
There are cloud services doing the same thing right?
How do they do it?

I know my computer is shit, but until I find a new job I wont be able to build a completely new one.

Speccy doesn't show my PSU. It's an Energon EPS-650W.

Anything I can do to make it last a bit longer? My PSU is super hot so I guess I could change that out. My graphics card is fine and I have an SSD coming in.

My budget is kinda low.

What's a good 256Gb usb stick? I just want some decent write and read speeds so I can transfer files fast

>I know my computer is shit
Nigga that's like 3x better than my current one

I factory-resetted a Samsung S4 Mini. Is there any chance of recovering photos and if so, how?

Why does wikipedia charts suck so much when you actually try to sort numbers in them ?

I've got a TV series where each episode is a multipart rar in its own folder, how do I unrar all of them?

Did you come here expecting an answer or just to complain?

Why does my cpu not turn on when I put it inside the case, when it was exactly wired the same outside and it turned on fine

Why isn't my gpu down clocking? It just started doing this recently and I haven't messed with any of the settings.

Best method/program for scrubbing metadata off pictures?

For each individual episode, just unpack the first archive, usually named filename.part1.zip or filename.part1.rar. Program will do the rest for you.

This used to happen to me when I first installed W10, I think it was caused by some piece of hardware on my mobo with a bad driver

I know how to unarchive a multipart rar, I'm asking how to not have to do it episode by episode for 6 seasons.

I'm in the middle of setting up a win10 vm with gpu passthrough and i'm having problem with the sound.

I want to hear the audio from both the host and the guest os at the same time, so just passing through the onboard soundcard to windows is something i'd like to avoid.

What i'm doing now is emulating a soundcard with qemu but this seems to be very cpu intensive. Like just getting sound takes about 1 core worth of performance on my brand new i5. Is this normal?

I will soon attempt setting up a network bridge between my the vm and my local network so i can share mouse and keyboard using synergy, without needing to emulate mouse/keyboard on the vm. Is tehere a way to do the same with a soundcard? Like connecting to a pulseaudio server from windows, or something similar.

What do you mean, it doesn't turn on? The fans are not spinning? Many new models will not need to power on the fans unless they're under load. If you get a picture signal from it everything's fine. Check temps if you're worried still, or google if your model is passively cooled when idle.

reseat all connections, make sure you didn't accidentally bend a cpu pin or short a connection somewhere

do case/cpu fans spin? if not it's a motherboard related problem

if on windows, just search for *.rar then you can select them all and unzip with 7zip

you can likely do the same on loonix but it depends on how smart your archiver is

alternatively, mpv, mpc-hc and vlc all support playing from rar directly with varying degrees of success

it's shit with alphabetical sorting too

pretty sure factory reset on all modern phones does a full format, so no chance unless you have them on something like external cloud services

Why people have problems installing windows 7 on computers without USB 2.0.

>if on windows
Should've pointed out I'm using a real operating system

Pls respond

Motherboards*

extractnow.com/ or maybe jDownloader depending on how you got these archives.

Fans don't start spinning

For example if my motherboard is on some cardboard on my desk, connected to the power supply on the same desk and with all the components for the system control panel from the case connected freely then the light turns on, and the cpu case starts spinning after I press the power button

As soon as I put the motherboard into the case, on the risers, and rewire everything so it fits in the case, with the power supply under it, reconnected tight and good to go, wired exactly the same, I only see the light turn on without the cpu fans spinning when I turn on the power on the power supply and press the power button on the case

>What i'm doing now is emulating a soundcard with qemu but this seems to be very cpu intensive. Like just getting sound takes about 1 core worth of performance on my brand new i5. Is this normal?

if you're using qemu from the command line try *just* "-soundhw hda" and ignore any of the pulseaudio/alsa shit that typically is ran before qemu

still, emulating sound is always going to require cpu (some devices more than others) and will always have glitches so it's not ideal no matter your solution

for streaming audio like synergy from a quick google there's stuff like icecast, virtual audio cable (I last used this during winxp days and it was absolutely awful, just fwiw), airfoil etc

What is best movie making software? It seems winshit 10 doesn't come with WMV anymore

nvm, misread the post. thought it said gpu.

how can i get a proxy of the vatican city?

Okay, you probably forgot to screw in the motherboard standoffs that came with your case? They're spacers to lift the mobo off the backplate to prevent electrical shorts, which if you really forgot is, is probably what's happening. Also, don't do that again. It is not unlikely to cause hardware failure.

how shit is your pc

Guys, I have a website running on my PC, there are some people who want to access the site, the problem is I don't want people giving the URL to other people and that other people accessing the site.

If they give me their mac address can I make a mac address white list in the router settings to prevent another mac address to connect to the site?

No, you can invest money on it but its way better to spend it on a 1151 motherboard and a i5.

Figured it out, simpler than I thought too
unrar e -r *.part01.rar

>Should've pointed out I'm using a real operating system

then just follow the exact same steps, search for *.rar in whatever file manager you're using and extract through your context menu (success depending upon archive manager used like I said)

if that doesn't work just write a tiny bash/perl script to do it

at the 256gb price point they're all going to have decent read/write speed just get something that's usb3.0 and use it on usb 3.0 slots

>Fans don't start spinning

make sure all the power connections are seated properly (they can be difficult to press in when built in the case, especially the cpu power ones)

get back to Cred Forums

1) mac addresses can be spoofed
2) router mac whitelist is for devices connecting to the router, not from the web
3) just whitelist their ips in your firewall that's literally the purpose of a firewall

I have a thermaltake core v1 (its ugly I know, but cheap)

The risers are built in, so when I place the motherboard in the case it is above the whole backplate. The manual for the case tells me to install the mobo in the proper location (the holes are in the risers inside the case) and secure it with screws, i.e screw into the holes from above

I've tried with screws screwed in and without any screws, same results. I'm extremely confused

Thing is, I was looking at the samsung one, but recent tests showed that it doesnt have the advertised speed

I'm using libvirt to interact with qemu, but if i get it correctly "-soundhw hda" just tells it to use an intel audio controller. I've actually tried in virt-manager before and for some reason the sound quality was really shit. I got these chopping and cracking noises. Audio only seemd to work correctly if i emulate an ac97 chip.

I'll probably try some sort of streaming after i set up sinergy.

When you booted successfully outside the case, you used a power buttons on the motherboard I assume? Sound like the case's front panel wiring is maybe faulty.

Is there any file recovery program (specifically images) that isn't a virus in disguise? Freeware or piratable, I don't care as long as it works.

How do I install the "open with mpv" firefox addon properly on windows?

I set the location to my MPV folder

both frankly

I used the power button on the case

What is better, ASUS Z97-A or ASUS Z97-PRO GAMER.

Leaving aside the gayming looks like a solid motherboard and both are the same price.

Okay, im trying to install a debian live 8.6 into an USB of 16 GB from ubuntu, but after trying with both cp and dd nothing works, any help?

Then I'm just as confused as you. Just triple check everything. Must've overlooked something. Makes no sense.

Recuva, testdisk.

personally I went with an mx-es ultra series because it was the only usb drive I could find that used mlc flash but they don't do a 256gb one on this series and their other series have some awful branding

just try to find something made this year that uses usb 3.0, maybe if you can find decent benchmarks for a lower storage capacity drive then look at the manufacturers other offerings in that same line

best of luck to you though, finding decent usb drives is a nightmare

>I've actually tried in virt-manager before and for some reason the sound quality was really shit. I got these chopping and cracking noises.

that's usually the problem, I knew of a page that went over in detail the different emulation devices but I cannot find it now for the life of me, but the thing I took away from it was hda was generally the most supported at the kernel level but all the emulation devices have some cracks and pops, but you shouldn't be getting awful quality with hda

perhaps try updating your kernel if you haven't done so in a while, or revert it a little if you don't need bleeding edge for any other software you're using

testdisk/photorec is FOSS but its usability is.... well it's bad let me leave it that

recuva is made by the same people that make ccleaner and it works a lot better but I think it's limited to windows

Thanks for the answers. Cheers. :)

how did you write it using dd? debian wiki recommends: dd if= of= bs=4M; sync

I've had a few usbs not write properly with dd but it usually ended up corrupting for some particular reason, maybe try writing it a second time if it doesn't work first time

if that fails, maybe try something like unetbootin but I'd only use this as a last resort

What's a good laptop for programming/projects/work for around 600-800?

I made the rules on the firewall with a random ip adress, I can still connect from any IP adress.

send help

Used Thinkpads.

Cred Forums is there a device that i can buy, like a USB hub
even if it just has 1 USB slot
where you plug a flash drive in
and ALL computers have access to the flash drive

I've made a crude picture to explain

So that any computers can add or remove files from the drive
the drive can be unplugged at any time, etc
you get the idea

A USB powered NAS?

Why dont you just share stuff trough the network?

It's called a server, you could use literally any computer with a USB port and have it do that.

Would a GTX 1080 upgrade do any good as a upgrade for

i7 2600k @ 4.5GHz
16gb ram 1833MHz
Evga GTX 680 Sli

Yes, huge since a 1080 is a high-end tier GPU.
Your current GPU has the perfomance of a low end modern GPU.

Yes. Your cpu and ram is fine but gpu is old as hell.

It's called a NAS. You can get a cheap NAS box, throw some hard drives inside it and access their contents from any PC in your network. Or just buy a router with USB NAS support.

some routers have a usb slot you can use like storage and access from all computers on the local network.

You can also buy a device with hard drives which is connected directly to the router via ethernet and all computers can access the hard drive, probably such devices have usb slots too. Google Network-attached storage for more info on these

How RAM overclocking would affect me negatively?

what about bottle-necking?

would I even be able to use my card to 80% of its power?

For SSDs, does it matter where I put my partitions? E.i. beginning vs. end of drive?
I remember on HDDs it mattered where (physically speaking) partitions were put but does the same apply to SSDs?
Tried a bit of searching but couldn't find a clear answer... thanks in advance.

If you are overclocked it wont affect you at all.

I have a ton of files names (1).png (2).png, etc..
Trying to convert to webm,
What am I doing wrong?
ffmpeg -f image2 -start_number 1 -i (%d).png foo.webm
[image2 @ 000000c2b2feadc0] Could find no file with path '(%d).png' and index in
the range 1-5
(%d).png: No such file or directory

what can i benefit from switch from windows to linux. I don't want to switch just because

Dualboot then.

No.

Why not use a swap file on an ssd?

FREEEEDOOOOMMM!!!!
Meme'ing aside: the ability configure and control your system to your liking.
You won't run into the 'computer is slow, better format and reinstall' due to how poorly Windows handles things.
No botnet, no updates etc. you don't want. You are in control, not some MS employee.
If you want to play video games and mainly use your computer for that, do not bother switching though.
And depending on what distro you chose and how much configuring you have to do to get things the way you want it can be quite time consuming and sometimes frustrating. Once you are past that hurdle you don't have to worry about it ever again and if anything breaks you hopefully know how to fix it.

Thanks for the clarification.

Excessive writes. This kills the SSD.

Huge wear, doesn't matter on MLC or better, only for TLC SSDs.

I'm working on a simple website and am wondering if there's a way to automatically sync a few HTML/CSS/JS files from my computer to Hostgator at set intervals so the website gets updated as and when I make changes to the local files and so I don't have to re-upload files every time or edit them on Hostgator.

any way i can remove mate logo from the applications launcher?

Does Hostgator support FTP? If so, perhaps use an FTP client which you can set to send periodically.

i have dual boot because i use windows and linux
i want to use only linux
> thinking about formatting my pc and setup 'linux + win7 in virtualbox'

i use windows mainly because of adobe software and ms office...
but now i wanna use linux + win7 in vm, and run these programs at that vm..

> will it work?

my hardware (desktop): i5-4460 3,3ghz, 4gb ram, 1tb, no gpu

I'm getting incorrect results from this search. When I open the page it responds "0 results", but when the same search is run through phpmyadmin and mysql directly on the server, it comes back w/ the correct info.

I figure I'm botching the $sql concat somehow, but don't know enough about the syntax to figure it out.

You guys know that little autosync feature on android?
The one that syncs up all the various accounts on your phone?
Well being the degenerate that I am, I have a bunch of social media accounts I made purely to look at hot chicks. But I used my real email address to set up most of these accounts
So I'm wondering will this autosync feature cause people who have my email, or my google plus, to suddenly start having the facebook, twitter, etc. profiles that I signed up for with that same email/google plus, pop up in their recommended friends list?

Is there such thing as "network raid" ?
Like there are 3 workstations and usually only 2 of those are on. I need to make an always accessible, shared local drive without involving a new fileserver or some shit
Cant I just raid some network shared partitions?

or does it matter that I don't echo $row["MIN(gold)"] in the $result?

I'm on Win7 Ultimate SP1. Hooked directly into my modem via ethernet cable.

For whatever reason, ever since I first set up this PC, the network icon always says I'm disconnected. I have no issues with the actual connectivity, but the icon is getting a bit annoying since it's always incorrect.

Any idea what might be causing this, or how I might go about fixing it? Any advice is appreciated.

Thought this would be an easy find on google, apparently not.

How can I use my android phone (samsung galaxy s6 edge+) as a bluetooth dongle? I want to connect my phone to my PC via USB and have a gamepad connected to my android via bluetooth so I can use it on the PC.

How much RAM should I give my VirtualBox? It recommends 1024 MB, but is there a reason to not just give all of it?
It's only going to use it while I have the program running, right?

do i have to ID every radio button i want to store as variables in javascript? or can I access them via the name attribute?

lol good pic for this thread

>Important docs on secured Machine A
>Only games and memes on unsecured Machine B
>Want to Sync memes from A to B
Can using syncthing to sync one folder from A to B (and vice versa) somehow compromise security of machine A?

Should I use Lubuntu, Xubuntu or Kubuntu? Are any of these limited compared to Ubuntu? I just want Ubuntu without the Amazon bloatware.

No such setting.

Then use Xubuntu. Kubuntu only if you grew up with KDE and feel nostalgia for an inferior window manager. Lubuntu if you use a weak machine, as this distro works really well even on relatively old machines.

Is chromium really ungoogled?

How do I stop being a worthless sack of shit?

A new rMBP should come out later this year. I would buy the xps15 if it only had a 16:10 or squarer aspect ratio, but I doubt it'll have that much trouble with linux. I'd wait for the new rMBP.

Just use Debian unstable. Basically the same thing except the distro's logo and name is cooler.

The other LAN is disabled, try to enable it?

Im at campground that allows you to buy WiFi access for a single device. I bought it for my phone. Is there a way to turn my phone into a WiFi hot-spot using the camp WiFi and not 4G(out of country, no mobile signal)?

Installing gentoo should do the trick.

Your phone would need two Wi-Fi radios for that. It is possible to bridge the connection over Bluetooth but I'm not sure if Android can do that

pls respond

Looking to upgrade my 11 year old tv(plasma) to a new led.
Dont need 4k, so 1080p.Is 120 the standard now? Is 200hz meme for 1080p?

Should i eye deals on black friday or cyber monday, or are those indeed lower quality builds made for those holiday bursts?

I scored a cheap 1080p 144hz monitor on black friday, I suggest you do the same.

No luck, I'm afraid.

uBlock Origin or Adblock Plus? Is there a reason to use one over the other?

origin
abp sells ads

Origin.

Why? better ad detection and blocking.
ALSO, malware blocking.
logger and multiple filters.
And actually block ads from connecting to your PC instead hiding them.

Are there different versions of Display Port cables like with HDMI (1.3, 1.4, 2.0...) or can I just buy the cheapest I find?

Pretty much everything is displayport 1.4 so it doesn't matter like HDMI 1.4 and 2.0.

Thanks. So even a 2 bucks chinc cable will serve me well? Because the cable should connect with a FreeSync monitor.

Just dont go full chink, spend atleast $5 on it or get one from amazon.

Thank you.

Thanks mate.

Would I be be a mad man if I put a function in my while loop's condition?

Example.
while(someMathFunction(variable) != 5) {
some other statements;
}

double someMathFunction(double variable) {
cin >> variable;
return variable;
}

New thread WHEN

When you make one, lazy faggot.

>When you make one, lazy faggot.
Rude

No. A new thread is literally one post with a pic. With the same amount of effort it took to ask someone else to make it, you could have made one yourself, like a productive member of society. It's people like you that make this thread marginally shittier than it already is. So with all due courtesy, please quit being a lazy faggot.

You could have made a thread with the post you just made saying he could have made a thread with the post he just made...as could i have

Yes, but if you teach a faggot to fish...

Hed go in after the shiny thing he just threw in the ocean and get eaten by a shark

I wish I could open links from the browser straight into a program/terminal with a set of parameters. How can I do this, preferably on firefox?

And we never have to listen to his stupid bitching on comment 333 again. I call that a win. Hell I'd start dropping shinys myself if I thought shitposters would actually go in after them.

nieuw thread
