Alright Cred Forumsents

Alright Cred Forumsents,

So AMD is rumored to be releasing a 32-core server cpu next month. Give me one good reason why I should buy a Xeon chip instead.

>inb4 you can't

buy both and benchmark them

Because you get paid to maintain the servers, not the central heating

/thread

>32GB HBM2 on die
Uh... no? I believe in AMD, but I don't believe your blatant lies.

you do know zen is insanely power efficient right?

its eight core smt 3ghz counterpart that competes with intel's 3ghz smt broadwell eight core counter part and keeps right up with it.

while only using 95 watts vs the intel 140 watts.

$

FUCK OFF RETARD

>>you do know zen is insanely power efficient right?
No, and neither do you.
Unless of course you work at AMD, on Zen.

You think you know but all you've seen is marketing material.
When has marketing ever lied?

>Give me one good reason why I should buy a Xeon chip instead.
There isn't one, do it OP.

Why do you need em lol, both aren't good at playing games

0/10

>2016
>still playing video games

shiggidy

>implying shills only see marketing material

it's hard to tell what to expect from Zen

signs point towards an arch that's roughly 5% behind skylake at IPC and perf/watt but that's still pure conjecture.

and at that price, the benefits of having an unlocked chip at no extra cost with no useless iGPU and (hopefully) no IME shit will make it an equally, if not more attractive product.

also, the arch scales from 30$ poverty chips to multiple-thousand-dollar opteron server chips. it's going to be even more pointless to buy low end Intel chip seeing as excavator already shits on those.

if zen delivers on what's promised then the outlook is good for zen+ considering Intel has had many, many years to improve its Core family.

An 3GHz 8 core broadwell does not use 140W, because such a processor does not exist.

...

AMD is probably going to market its 4 module / 8 thread chips as "8 core"

after all that's basically what they did with bulldozer; 4 modules with 2 integer cores and 1 FPU (IIRC)

You know what he meant u nigger

If that rumor about a Macbook with ZEN APU and HBM2 happens to be true then buy AMD while you can.

just wait until its out and compare them?

Zen will be Bulldozer 2.0
The fact AMD compares it against a 6900k instead of an i5 or i7 basically means it doesn't have IPC for shit.

Bulldozer had as many cores as marketed.

AMD...was a mistake...

intel did the same thing with the i3 line

Polaris is also insanely power efficient

When you manually lower the voltage from the fire hazard stock settings

this because im building a Beowulf cluster for my university with a $9000 (~+$200) and am currently looking at 10 core Xeons and I was telling my advisor I would look into Zen but i had no idea when it was releasing server grade chips

>A core without an independent FPU is suddenly a "core"
yeah okay Raj

>a processor with no FPU has no cores
Yeah okay kid

>you do know zen is insanely power efficient right?
>implying Desktop == Server
Oh wait, they literally are completely different.

>roleplaying this hard on a sri lankan elephant taming board

sad

except that I really am working on a cluster for a Physics department for a university.

I'm not claiming otherwise

I'm just saying the notion is stupid

>Oh wait, they literally are completely different.
both Opterons and FX chips will be using the same uArch

so they are quite literally the same

Nothing is releasing in October.
IP means final silicon is In Production, not that its coming to market. It was a speculative time table AMD set out last year.

You dumbshits can't get anything right.

Looks like an anime betrayal

>both Opterons and FX chips will be using the same uArch
Ok? And there is literally nothing else they can do to a CPU?

nothing that would so drastically affect perf/wattage

>tasked to build cluster for university
>ask Cred Forums for help
>also please do my homework
>and i need tech support

kill yourself
>inb4 you can't
just fuck off

Even with intel they are the exact same chips with features removed/added and differing amount of cores with the required changes.

AMD server/cons

He said cores, not HBM dumbass...

look at op image smarty pants

I am fairly hype about Naples at this point, but your pic is retarded, OP.

The Summit Ridge die doesn't have an HBM controller, so a MCM made of 2x or 4x SR isn't going to magically have HBM support either.

> I just want a 16 core, 4x channel DDR4 Opteron at a sane price after being stuck with years of Intel price-gouging anything above 4 core.

>what is SMT

Something that was nonexistent in Bulldozer

That doesn't mean Zen won't be SMT.

i7 6900k performance in that one cherry picked benchmark, Sandy Bridge performance in everything else that doesnt use shit tons of cores

bulldozer 2.0

It's already been confirmed that Zen has SMT, hasn't it?

Yes

He never asked for help. Man fucking relax

Why do you want a server CPU at all?

maybe he has a server

Why do you want no ECC support and an iGPU you're not going to use for anything?

And here we have another * something I consider good is amazing, you Must convince me wrong, protip - you can't *. And then, let the shitposting begin. Sadly, Cred Forums is constantly littered by these threads...

Could you retards stop using the word "literally" to emphasize your opinions like a bunch of 14 year-old girls on tumblr?

>and an iGPU you're not going to use for anything?
But I use my iGPU for everything?

Good for you
