I can have like 40 chrome tabs of porn and various sites up, play FFXIV and Dead Rising at the same time, and it still doesn't use above 4GB of usage. I don't see how the average consumer can use up more than 8GB unless you're video rendering, or you got your OS aggressively caching the RAM

The boot time is actually slower because of the time it takes to initialize. Everything else will be tremendously faster, yes. The problem though is he ran into an issue with his os, and all of his integral programs were sharing said raid. The boot with the raid is still faster than a platter drive, but he should have simply had a small ssd just for his os, and the raid for everything else.

Mechanical drives will always be cheaper until SSD decides to go high volume and monopolize. I want to believe mechanical drives have a higher gross margin but they don't. SSD manufacturers are capitalizing on the relative freshness of the technology to mainstream users. They would rather keep the mentality that less is more when it's faster, and people still pay for it.

The reality is SATA was an artificial bottleneck to keep making money from dumb people.
