Earlier today I got my internet taken down by my ISP, Cox. About 10 minutes of trying to reconnect to the internet later, I got something close to pic related (Pic isn't mine, but it was close enough). I went ahead and deleted the file in question, stopped it's seeding, closed my utorrent, and clicked the "click here" to reactivate my internet. It says it takes upwards of 15 minutes for the internet to come back online once you do that, but mine was back in about 2 minutes.
I had been seeding the file in question for about 4 hours before I got cut off. I normally don't seed at all, this was an accident and the first time I've been warned for doing something like this.
This wouldn't worry me by itself since I know you can't get sued by your ISPs for pirating things, but I am worried about COX's "3-strike rule" which apparently means that they can ban you from their service if they have to cut you off 3 or more times.
Apparently this is legal since it's COX's service and being a business they can do whatever they want with it.
Does anyone have any personal stories about getting caught for pirating? What are some ways I can pirate things more safely?
Xavier Garcia
if I may ask what file did you torrent?
if you torrent a file with no comments, its probably a fake trap torrent set up by freelance companies organized by publishers that just record IP addresses.

It was some torrent I got for 10 Cloverfield lane like a month ago off piratebay. I downloaded one of the ones with loads of comments saying if the quality was good or bad etc. The file itself worked fine, basically DVD quality.
I literally never download things with low amounts of comments unless I'm really desperate for the file.
Be careful if you're looking for that movie on piratebay at the moment.
Aaron Brown
Use a VPN for torrenting if you live in the land of the corpo, home of the cybercucks.
Cameron Peterson
I can't help you much, I don't torrent anymore due to my lack of interest in movies and games anymore, but I do know for a fact that there are freelance/external companies hired by ISPS, trust groups, publishers and organizations to hunt down torrents and monitor activity.
Evan Scott
yeah, this happened in America. Didn't think to say that in the OP.
Sebastian Roberts
I got a letter from my ISP about pirating Edward Penishands.
I would love to have seen the face of the person who had to type out that letter.
Blake Hernandez
Never seed, will get you a letter from cox. I've gotten plenty of those after accidentally seeding stuff.
Hudson Cooper
USA cable cos only care about premium channel (hbo/showtime/starz) shows because it's how they make money. Just don't seed those shows, they don't care about software or anime or even regular cable shows
Nolan Brown
Torrenting is relatively safe for old/unknown content. But for the fresh/hollywood content it can get you listed pretty quick. I use jdownloader with DDL sites for most popular content.
Dominic White
>doing exactly what the media jew wants cuck
Isaac Anderson
That's what you get for sucking cocks
Noah Scott
don't download recent films without a vpn or private tracker or professional porn because most of the companies are jews and monitor that shit

Nathan Murphy
It is safe if you don't live in the land of the "free" or germanistan. In Austria I don't know of a single person that got in trouble for torrenting.
Brody Cruz
What would be my best bet as a germanistan? >vpn?
Julian Foster
seedbox
Hudson Martinez
Alright thanks
Jason Green
They don't scan your fucking computer, you cuck. Just click it and continue as normal.
A lawyer got a list of torrent IPs, bitched to the ISP, and the ISP tells you about it to shut the lawyer the fuck up. No one cares.
They aren't keeping you on close watch, you can continue torrenting. Just don't seed pirated content like a fucking idiot.
Jace Lewis
>continue torrenting >don't seed pirated content
wut

>They don't scan your fucking computer And if they did, you could let it scan a junk computer or a VM.

How safe is it to download shit from mega on jdownloader? Can you get caught if you do that on public connections like using uni or library connections which are tied to your ID?
Michael Long
getting banned from the library system for excessive volume should be your worry
Christian Wilson
Why pirate movies when you can stream them?
Adrian Brown
better quality
John Myers
>getting banned from the library system for excessive volume should be your worry But can the library people know what I'm downloading?
I already downloaded huge files like GTA5 which is over 60gb IIRC.
Julian Green
the library people don't care
and you're extra paranoid if you're going to the library to use services like mega
Kevin Roberts
VPN or Proxy always if you are in Unitted Slaves of America.
Gavin Moore
But you can stream 1080p
Adrian Rogers
that's nice- are those easy to find?

Downloaded The Duchess in like April earlier this year. The movie is from 2008. Got a notice from Charter. Fucking girlfriends and their shitty taste.
Sebastian Evans
Yes. The time it took you to post and wait for a response, you could have found one.

I was constantly going over their artificial upload limits every month for years. Yeah theyd send letters containing fake threats but I never read them. They don't mean shit.
You're paying for a service to use it they can't tell you to stop using it more than other people use it. Nothing will happen to you if you keep doing what you want.
Cooper Ross
mfw my ISP receive letters about this shit every day for a big chunk of its consumers and never ever forward them to people. Based ISP, based europoors.
Lucas Walker
Forgot to post my face.

>cox are you an ocfag?
i always get cut-off... this year my service was suspended 3 times and all i did was call them and complain that someone was 'hacker my wifing' and i can't prove it -- but i suspect it was my chinse neighbor.
worked all 3 times now are they having additional eyes on me? yes... do i care they know about my cd sissy fetish? naw.
John Sanders
I have torrented and seeded tbs of stuff on Cox you are just doing it wrong.

That's what you get for consuming garbage western media.

Recent movies are monitored, I downloaded Zootopia before it was released in my area and I got throttled for a week. Meh, I liked the movie anyway.
Evan Morris
Stop torrenting new shit. Fucking retards.
Luis James

Why the fuck did you deleted it?

i miss the good old days when you could just pirate everything and play stuff on lan desu senpai even though it isn't stealing it is still hurting game / music / whatever sales but it still makes me sad how the good old times are gone
Justin Moore
>hurting sales Am I the only one that buys games that he likes?
Daniel Nguyen
I hope this shit never happens in my country. It's pretty much free pirating here, people sell pirated dvds on the street.
Nolan Clark
Turn off automatic seeding after download in your torrent client's settings and never get in trouble for seeding again.
Liam Thompson
Consider yourself "lucky".
Adam Roberts
In that Cox screenshot it even says to turn off file sharing for your peer-to-peer software. They're helping you to download in the future.

Just get off the Internet, you fucking parasite.

Cox i one of the good companie but even they are subject to the laws of Mr Noseburg. I have had dozens of DMCA notices while using Cox but only two since their 3 strikes policy was implemented. They got sued for not having any real punishment for DMCA.
You don't have to seed to get a DMCA. The second time I got a DMCA I was experimenting with not seeding. If the people sending DMCAs see your IP in the swarm they're going to send the DMCA. Just downloading isn't covered by the DMCA but then you have to argue with the ISP who is worried about another multimillion dollar lawsuit. The DMCA does prescribe a way to contest DMCA notices and the ISP does have to listen. When it comes down to it they might just decide you aren't worth the trouble, which is essentially what the 3 strikes rule is.
My suggestion is to get a $3.50 vps from ovh.net and download all you want. It has a 100Mbps connection. That's both up and down. Be sure to chose one based in France. If it has a US IP it is still subject to the DMCA.
It only has 10GB storage but you can get more storage if you like. I don't find that necessary because you can download a GB in less than 2 minutes. By the time you are done watching it you've got a ratio of like 4. So pay Mr Noseburg back and seed your ass off.
It's also useful for other shit. It's a computer with 100Mbps symmetric bandwidth that runs 24/7. Use your imagination.
Ayden Reed
That post didn't mention games you tard.
Carson Wood

Christian Cox
Read the tutorials from web
Jaxon Torres
Hol' up, how would they know if you didn't delete the file? Do they have access to your hard drive?
Ryan Richardson
They don't. They just tell you to because it's easier to say delete this than explain to computer illiterate fucks client specific instructions to stop sharing a file.
Justin Flores
Fuck those niggers, buy a VPS in Europe, install openvp and seed like a motherfucker. That's the best way to say a big fucking fuck you to the fucking kikes in Hollywood
Blake Gutierrez
