how do you block the party hat in ublock origin again?

>blocking it
>not knowing there's a way to turn them off

>blocking the hats

Is this your first year here :^)

...

>how do you block the party hat in ublock origin again?

type :stophats:

I've literally done it this way every year since they started doing it. I just never remember how.

...

Except I don't use Firefucks, so blocking them is the only way.

FUCK. I cant believe some asshole probably from b ran :starthats:

It'll be gone in a few hours, stop whining faggot

Does Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB get less frequent updates than Windows 10 Pro ?
Debating on whether to swap out Pro for Enterprise LTSB on my laptop because updates take for fucking ever to install and I don't want it asking to install updates every other week when I need to use my laptop for the next half hour.

whats the closest thing to nvidia inspector for AMD ? want to set lod settings for shittastic graphics

I installed that like 6 months ago and I think I've updated twice

Guys I need help with overclocking
I have a 4770k with a H100i GTX(installed just now).

I'm at 4.2ghz at 1.2 volts and my Prime95 temps is at 90c, which I think should be closer to 80c.
I set the profile in Corsair Link to "Perfromance"

I have the fans set to pull intake, should I try flipping it to exhaust?
Reapply thermal paste(currently fresh Gelid Extreme)?

you dont need overclocking.

How can I make my walls transparent?

Dont regularly come to Cred Forums and I have a question. What free proxy service is best? Are all or most of them a required download? I used to use tor until I heard it didn't do shit.

u cant, Valve anti cheat wouldn't allow such thing, with its powerful protection !!

Sounds good, thanks. Did you get the anniversary update ?

Sounds like you have a case of too much thermal paste.
Flipping the fans won't make much of a difference, but try reapplying your thermal paste.

I see. It's getting late, I'll probably try using less paste tomorrow.
Thanks user.

So can you get busted by people policing the IP list of a torrent site if you live in another country?

I guess I don't know a non-retarded way to ask, so I'll be blunt; If I live in the US, and ban all US peers from my torrent peer lists, does that mean I'm safe?

Do not that it could also be too little thermal paste, though. But with temps over 90 degrees Celsius, I'd think too much is more likely.
Too much, and it acts like an insulator. Too little and your CPU block won't make proper contact with your CPU's IHS.

What you want to see when you take the block off is a nice thin, even layer of thermal paste without air bubbles.

>does that mean I'm safe?
No. The only way to be even a little safe on a public tracker is to use a VPN.

>Do not
Do note* fuck

Okay thanks.

I've got a computer with 512MiB RAM, would moving the pagefile from the HDD to a microSD card help? The HDD's got twice the sequential r/w speeds but is 6x slower at random 4KB r/w. Would it be beneficial to have a pagefile on both drives?

I did get the anniversary updated and it shut down my pc for it like a piece of shit

why are all virutal machine programs cucking me which one works with the deepin 15.3 iso

In this course I'm taking, my professor assigned us to create a resume using his guidelines. He says to use .25 inch margins all around. This sounds retarded to me, do people actually do this? I thought you are supposed to use 1 inch.

what's the best way to backup windows machine and & files (documents) to a nas ? system restore won't do the job i think, since the file versions are left up to date, just the system files get restored, right ? 3rd party tool like robocopy ? It's not for me, have to set it up for a friend of my boss. It has to regularly back up/copy let's say bookkeeping to the nas.

How bad is it to change a native 1920x1200 to be 1920x1080 in resolution settings or should I keep it 1920x1200 and live with black bars ?

Pretty sure it's only possible in specific cases, hence why a full divide operation is needed in the general case.

If you want modulo by a power of 2, you and the number by that minus 1. So, x modulo 8 is x&7.

Start like this, but continue the upward motion. This technique is not limited to the trilby, and should be fully compatible with the vast majority of hats on the market.

please

Should still work, but if you can, getting them on the same circuit will generally give better speeds. If you have three phase or split phase mains, try to use the same phase.

If you put it in 1920x1080 you will still have black bars. If you set the monitor to stretch, you will have nonsquare pixels, which will make circles look stretched and faces too long. And since it's stretched you lose all the sharpness you expect from an LCD.

Just live with the black bars. If you had a 1920x1080 of the same width, it would be the same size as the picture you're getting, and the black bars would be bezel and empty space. You have that same size, plus a bit of extra you can make use of for programming, browsing and many games.

1. This is Stupid Questions, not Ask And Spam Begs General.
2. Be more specific. What's happening? Can you boot other VMs? Did you enable virtualization in BIOS setup?

it wont work at all, also i dont have anyother isos of linux only deepin15.3 and yes i did, the software isnt in the list of all the distros in the software it can read,so i clicked other and it says "cannot identify what your trying to boot" or something related like that.

At night, it was "because you touch yourself at night". You had one job.

Doesn't work for incoming calls because I don't live in the US, have to pay for that.

>At night, it was "because you touch yourself at night"
I know.

For VMware: Select "Other Linux 3.x kernel (64 bit)" or whatever as the OS, depending if it's 32 or 64 bit. "Other 64 bit" should work too. Tell it you'll install the OS later instead of showing it an ISO. This opts out of the "easy install" nonsense that is failing to detect your distro.

When you're done setting up the VM, edit its CD drive. Put your ISO in it and check "connect at startup". Boot your VM, and from there it should be similar to installing it on a real computer.

Don't do this, nerve gas

I have pic related installed in my back and I haven't been able to sit at my desk for a very long time due to pain.

I'm looking for a reasonably priced desk chair that reclines. Where do I start, what do I look for and what brands are good/what brands do I avoid?

Thanks

doesnt work

You might ask your doctor about types of chair that would be comfortable with that in. I have no clue what effect that would have on posture and comfort.

You'll have to elaborate.

Why do posts just get deleted now? It was much better when they got the red text saying "User was banned for this post"

Did you know you can delete your own posts?

My first RAM slot detected my ram but the PC doesn't boot.
It does boot when I put the RAM in the second slot

No fucking shit. I'm not asking about when people delete their own posts, I'm talking about when people get banned. I haven't seen a post marked with "User was banned for this post" in years and I know I've seen posts people have gotten banned over.

here look

I have a couple of question related to overclocking:
>is there a software i can use to monitor my core voltage while running something like prime95?
>how can i assure my mobo gets enough airflow if i get an AiO clc and mount it to the front of my case
>is there a site ehere i could see what kind of results other people have gotten with a specific cpu i.e. person 1 has his 6600k at 4.5ghz with 1.2v and person 2 has his 6600k at 4.8ghz with 1.5v and stuff like that
>how important is the mobo in this? I have a cheapass 100€ z series board and i am really concerned about this since i couldn't find any documentation of its power delivery.

You don't have VT-x turned on. Get on your BIOS and enable it.

how do i do that im tech illiterate

Christ it literally tells you what to do

look up how to enter BIOS on your mobo manual

What legacy language do I learn? I once heard of a guy who worked ~2 days a year on an oil platform, and that was enough for a yearly salary. Is COBOL good for this?

Why can I get past my ISPs Cred Forums block by changing DNS but I have to use VPN to access most porn sites?

A better question is why is your ISP blocking Cred Forums and porn sites?

Look for messages at boot, when it shows the OEM logo, like "press F1 for setup" or "press enter to interrupt normal startup". Do what it says and you'll either get into a text based setup utility or a menu of things that includes setup. Get to setup and use arrows (or mouse if your system is fancy) to navigate. Look for an option labeled VT-x or virtualization. Switch it to enabled, then right arrow over to exit, save changes and exit. Then it'll boot up and you should have VT-x on.

Or, download the 32 bit version, tell VMware it's 32 bit, and use it without VT-x enabled. It might perform slower by a small amount, but it'll work.

I see my surgeon next week.
Reclining with my feet up is the most comfortable position for me. I need a chair that has wheels and reclines, just need a place to start.

Probably because Cred Forums uses Cloudflare. Cloudflare uses the same IPs to proxy through to many sites, so if your ISP blocked the IP you access Cred Forums through, it would block many other sites. So they block looking up "Cred Forums.org" in their DNS. Therefore you can bypass by using another DNS like 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4.

But many porn sites don't use Cloudflare, and they're at an IP that hosts nothing else. So your ISP can simply block all access to that IP. Then even if you change DNS, it will not help you.

sorry for being late but i will do this when i can thanks dude, ill post with the os tomorrow

I know that skype now is also a botnet. Does it tracks you as much as win 10?
Is there any way to block or reduce this spying shit?
I need skype because my friends are not as autistic as me and refuse to move to a mumble or any other foss voip.

why is svchost such shit? it loves to eat up resources. the two services i have issues with are explorer and win updater.
should i just burn my laptop to the ground in anger?

I have an old pc circa 2004, what parts can I recycle and what are some creative things I can do with it?

Is there an app to quickly change *system* language in Android devices?

Oh snap, me too user. I was cleaning my room and came across them. Same era. I don't know if people would buy it or not. I heard people like old working hardware.

Seedbox, arcade or console emulator, DOS games machine, terminal, backup computer for system recovery, etc. Be creative.

I did some tests on a new hard drive in a previous thread after running into a long chain of problems (Lockups, downloads failing, sudden restarts, etc.) and results indicated that the HDD was failing. (It's possible that I may have just bought a faulty hard drive. It can happen. Pic related.)

But I was wondering if was possible that it could have just been a faulty SATA cable instead that was causing the problems? I spent so much money recently trying to replace everything only to run into the same problems over and over again.

2004 is old, but not collectable old.

Retarded or not, follow the instructions. It's part of the training for your future participation in the workforce. You will see this every fucking day. Do as you are told and all will be well.

If you have trouble getting into your bios, you might have to disable secure boot from windows 8/10. You might also need to look up your mobo or pc manual for specific instructions.

Skype has been 'botnet' for a long ass time. Expect every call/message sent through skype to be recorded permanently, and possibly watched by some seedy agent out there. But if you're not doing anything illegal, you just have to worry about the ickyness of knowing inmate shit might be watched. They've had problems with that, but it's not skype exclusively. Microsoft will also mine the fuck out of your information, and no, there's really no way to control that.

Did you have the problems before aniversary? You could always do a clean install and/or disable windows update.

>what parts can I recycle

The case, and maybe some of the drives, but I wouldn't really use the drives even if you had an IDE adapter. You've basically got something less capable than a raspberry pie that consumes several times the power. Stick linux or xp on it and play around, but mostly old systems are just used for legacy programs/gaming.

Doubt it's the cable, but it doesn't take much to check. Did you have problems before replacing the drive?

What's a good usb 3 flash drive? I need one with decent write speed.

Ok Cred Forums I got a problem.

I have been playing this game since 2011 and logged quite a few hours in it. However the game doesn't keep exactly how many I played. It does keep a log file every time you play the game which tracks when you booted it up and closed it out. These log files also contain timestamps. I'm wondering if it is possible to math it out and figure how much time I have in the game.

I can't do it manually because there is around 1800+ files.

Any solutions?

Does anybody have a source for or more info on this?

>Doubt it's the cable, but it doesn't take much to check. Did you have problems before replacing the drive?

Yes, same problems as described in my previous post. I replaced the drive and it was fine for a while and soon enough the problems came back again. (At least I could actually download files properly with the new drive. But that was the only improvement)

I just always had this impression that SATA cables never fail. But now I'm suspecting that it was a faulty HDD AND a faulty SATA cable that was causing issues. You won't believe all the shit I've had to go through over the past month.

amazon.com/dp/B00KT7DOSE/

No, but AOL has always been an enormous stick in the mud about everything. It's practically their company motto. Also who still uses AOL? I know there still are a couple million people still out there, but I didn't expect that infection reached into Cred Forums. I'd try a different DNS and see if that helps.

I doubt it's both. Actually, if you haven't been cloning your OS, I'm starting to think you might have a motherboard issue, or possibly a problem with your PSU if you chalk the downloads thing up to something else.

Eventually maybe, but probably not on a timeline that makes it beneficial to keep it.

I've already replaced the motherboard and GPU, followed by HDD in that order. Replacing the HDD has mitigated problems regarding lockups, sudden restarts and download problems (Which another user has pointed out was an IO issue in a previous thread) until they started up again.

Just bought a Netgear GS208 it says the Bandwidth is 16Gbps and the forwarding rate is 1000Mbps. So if I connect the switch through a 10Gbps cable and connect everything else with 1Gbps cables will everything be able to DL/UL at 1Gbps within the network or will it be bottle necked to the forwarding rate?

>winblows explorer stops responding
>kill it in task manager
>click run to restart explorer

I never used to have problems restarting explorer. I don't know what to do, pls halp.

What computer science jobs are well payed, exiting and rich in variety?

Wow, that's a rough line of things to replace. Well, I'd grab a sata cable from a dvd drive or another computer and try with it just in case. But if that's OK and you did reinstall your OS from scratch when you got the new drive, then it looks like we've settled on PSU by process of elimination.

The ones you won't get hired for

Where do I put that in uBlock Origin?

I've replaced the SATA cable and yes I did install a fresh OS with the new drive. I have had a few weird random shutoffs whilst I was afk and a couple of sudden restarts, but I thought that was due to me installing drivers. (I made sure they were compatible, and I told the installer that I would restart the PC later) Turning on the PC has been weird as well: Doesn't boot straight away, fan spins a bit and stops several times, etc.

Fuck man. I just want a working PC again. I'm sure I didn't even need to replace all those components either.

Try pressing WinKey+E

>anti-static wristbands
Does it serve a real purpose? I heard that you should wear one of these when working with high-cost hardware.
I know that they are used by professionals and in industry workplaces, but does the consumer variant (in pic with crocodile clip) work as well, or is it just a ripoff?

Smplayer or Mpv?

They work, but as a consumer you're not handling enough equipment to really be worth the cost. Just touch a grounded object, should be fine.

i've been trying out various vnc servers but they dont seem to be as quick and responsive as teamviewer.

from what i can understand teamviewer is more efficient since it only updates changes to the screen instead of constantly streaming everything.

are there any alternatives out there that do the same thing? preferably ones that also ran on linux.

1Gbps=1000Mbps. If your router and network cards are also gigabit, and your ethernet cables are cat 5e or above, then your whole wired network will be gigabit. Forget the 16Gbps thing.

No, I doubt you had more than one physical problem. But sometimes narrowing it down can be a huge PITA. If you've replaced the drive, cable, mobo and os, then the only thing left that could be affecting your drive test results is the PSU, although that would still be an unusual thing to cause that particular problem. If those were the only symptoms, I would wait and see if you really are still experiencing lockups/shutdowns, but the fan/bootup issue isn't a great sign. I don't suppose you have a PSU you could borrow from another PC?

:stophats:

how do u use git? Using sourcetree and trying to upload, commited some shit and it disappeared but didnt show up on bitbucket, hit push on some random screen and now im waiting for 10+ minutes wtf

My CPU fan has been acting weird lately, when I start my computer it runs normally, but during the course of an hour or two it slows down (once it even "reached" 0RPM, although the fan was still running irl). Also, the CPU temperature sometimes reaches 100°C, but when I touch the case (near the region where the CPU socket is located) it doesn't feel very hot (and I have never experimented with overclocking before, so I suppose the CPU would shut down before reaching such a high temperature, right?)

I am starting to wonder whether the problem lies not in my CPU fan, but on the BIOS/software I am using to measure/read the cou fan speed/cpu core temperature
would such a thing even be possible? How could I find out for sure? And how could I fix it?

Oh, and I started to have problems with my CPU fan a while after one of the Windows 10 updates, could that be somehow related?

That only works if explorer.exe is running. My problem is I can't run explorer.

How do I separate PHP and HTML? Some people online say PHP as a template language is not supposed to be separated, but I want my IDE (Intellij IDEA) to use the correct syntax highlightning and when the file has the .html extension, it does not highlight the php parts correctly. See screenshot.

How do I turn this shit off?

I should add, I have already tried but apparently for this I need to configure HTML files to be processed as PHP which is supposed to be a bad idea.

>If those were the only symptoms, I would wait and see if you really are still experiencing lockups/shutdowns, but the fan/bootup issue isn't a great sign. I don't suppose you have a PSU you could borrow from another PC?

No... I don't... The drive test results were from before I replaced the HDD + SATA (After I had replaced the mobo and GPU). I'll give it some time and maybe resinstall the OS again just to be sure. But I REALLY don't want to place another order with Overclockers for a PSU. All my PC component deliveries have been sent consecutively one after the other and were delivered by the same delivery guy and I don't want him to think I'm some weird loser or something... >_<

Maybe I should get a surge protector just in case as well... Christ... I really hope I don't have to replace the processor and RAM as well. All these problems started when I had a new driver installed for my old GPU on my old setup, then it's been one thing after the other.

Well first of all change the extension to .php and not .html. I always put the PHP code before the first tag.

After the latest update I got yesterday, my laptop went retarded.
A bunch of programs quit working, and I'm getting windows popups saying they couldn't start or I'm missing DLL files.
I tried SFC and DISM - neither scan can complete.
I tried reinstalling the system files with the Media Creation Tool, but it can't even load.
I tried doing a full reset - can't complete either.
My hard drives are reading that they're still in good health, I ran chkdsk for like 3 fuckin' hours and it ultimately did nothing.

Is wiping and reinstalling from scratch my next option or am I forgetting anything?

FWIW the fedex man probably doesn't think shit about you. Loads of people buy their parts individually as they go on sale. It's trivially easy to memtest your ram, but I highly doubt memory/cpu have anything to do with this. I would have considered a PSU issue long before replacing the GPU. Also I'd shop around for your parts

Have you tried booting into the recovery options?

Cool man. Well, thanks for your help. Hope all these problems will fuck off soon.

What's the purpose of \n, \t and \r in PHP if they dont translate to
etc in the interpreter?

I've got a lock on the signal pattern. We can filter it out. Strange thing is, if my calculations are right it'll be gone in approximately seventeen hours anyway. The signal reduces itself every time it recycles. Eventually it will disappear.

>try to block it using ublock origin

Just realized I had ublock disabled on Cred Forums.

how to create a graph like this in excel?

Now that we've discovered that both Firefox and Chrome write enormous amounts of data to ssd drives, what is the best browser to use?

What's a good pcie wifi card?

I've had dlink, tplink and they both have horrible drivers that crashes my computer every once in a while.

>Have you tried booting into the recovery options?
Yep, tried that too. Pic is what I got.
Apparently, whatever happened also managed to buttfuck my Ubuntu partition on my second hard drive; I can't get it to boot either.
I'm just gonna dump all my files, nuke it from orbit, and start over.

Firefox or chrome.

Did you try a system restore? Automatic repair?

I used both Chrome and Firefox on Samsung 840 (non-Pro) SSD for like 4 years. It's still alive and well. Modern SSDs are even more reliable.

Is it worth sacrificing portability for better display if commuting for 2 hours twice a day? Currently debating whether to get a 14" laptop with TN (Acer) vs a 15.6" IPS (Asus). Assuming both have the same specs.

Does Ubuntu leave as much file history as Windows? In Windows traces of every program, document, picture and video you've opened are left behind forcing you to use ccleaner. Is ccleaner type cleaning necessary in Ubuntu?

For some reason the $WINDOWS.~BT folder keeps getting redownloaded onto my pc even after I delete it from my ssd. I got rid of it after installing Win10 and it stayed gone for a long time and didn't start popping up again like this until recently.

Is there any way to get rid of it permanently? I'm tired of it taking up 6+ gbs on my ssd

I'm running Firefox 49.0.1. This shit in pic related happens when I'm running NoScript. But aren't these just unicode icons? Why does my NoScript interfere with unicode rendering?

I had system restore points, but it can't find them.
I don't think I made any recovery cd's for my laptop...I'll have to check when I get home.

because it's safer?

Personal preference. I'd go for the Asus.

Where can I find torrents for books?

thank you very much. can you explain to me how unicode rendering can be an attack vector?

I'm looking to crossfire 2 Fury non X cards. is 850W enough?

Is there anyway to stop this shit on OS X? The real fix is Cred Forums needs to do a redirect after a new post. It used to, and then they changed it 6-12 months ago.

you can try piratebay, etc as usual but this site has helped me greatly in the past when looking for college books or anything else really

Put nonoko in the options field.

Thanks user! I forgot all about noko, I don't ever browse Cred Forums on the desktop anymore.

Is there more money in Back-end or front-end web dev?

why do people "lie" on torrent comment sections? or are they just legitimately retarded and don't know how to install stuff / don't allow it in anti virus, etc.

like some comments are so wrong that it's apparent that they have not even downloaded the torrent and are just talking out of their asses ("torrent has only .exe and no crack" when there obviously is one). even when the uploader is a verified VIP or whatever.

it's annoying having to explain it to my roommate that it does not contain a virus and is actually safe.

like this puzzles me, why would they do it? are they getting paid to discourage pirates or what??

I never had this issue with hdmi, but this monitor only has one hdmi slot so I don't want to switch around. Is the DP cable just fucked or what?

Test.

Use different cables/inputs.

Seems like this is a monitor problem to me tbhfamlam

anti-piracy groups discouraging people from downloading... also trolls and complete retards

I switched back to hdmi and it's fine; it's too late to return it, might just have to deal with the minor inconvenience of switching cables.

why the fuck am I seeing that stupid hat on clover?

How do I fix the massive distortion that's been hitting my laptop speakers since updating to W10 anniversary? I've read through everything, updated drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled everything, and fucked around with every single sound setting, but nothing gets the job done.
Changing the sound quality fixes it for a few minutes, but before long it switches right back to being overloaded with static.

This feels really stupid to ask, but I've had this happen to me once before on a different OS and couldn't find a solution.

I'm using photoshop cs3 to make gifs, everything worked fine, until all of a sudden, it won't let me brighten more than one frame at a time in the animation palette.
How do I fix this?

My camera output is upside down on ubuntu, how do i flip it? Its fine on windows 7 (multiboot)

Best laptop for photo editing, that can also be used for work stuff and general browsing/streaming?

I have a T430 but recently got into photography and the screen is abhorrently shit and it's hard to accurately edit shots, plus it's just time for a new laptop.

Looking for:

Good screen
solid graphics card
good enough processor to run monte carlo stuff for work, and work with large data sets in excel, R, etc.
battery life not huge issue, but at least 6 hours

Because GIFs don't give a shit which browser you use.

For photo editing you want an IPS, and you want to find someone who can lend you a calibrator.

Are you using the right version of Prime95? Some newer versions cam damage Haswell CPUs with high temperature.

Well that sounds vaguely horrible. Do you have any good links on the subject?

overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php/751197-Prime-95-v28-5-Haswell-CPU-s-and-you-is-it-bad-for-the-CPU-s-health

Basically, AVX support was added in 28.5 and it will cause overheating amongst other problems on overclocked CPUs. You can either install an older version or just use Intel XTU.

Thanks! One potential bullet dodged!

Yeah, try an older version/XTU and see how it goes.

If your screen's presets are oversaturated or otherwise inaccurate, try finding a local camera shop to rent a cheap calibrator from.

>overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php/751197-Prime-95-v28-5-Haswell-CPU-s-and-you-is-it-bad-for-the-CPU-s-health
how is that not a bug?

It isn't really a bug because the software isn't really being designed for testing overclocked systems. The reason that this problem exists is because usually Intel CPUs will downclock when receiving an AVX instruction set. This doesn't work properly with overclocked CPUs, though, so they overheat.

So did I.

i've got gtx 970 laying around and i was thinking about building a gayman pc. What cpu and motherboard combo should i get to take full advantage of this gpu for the least amount of money?

Pick up a Skylake i5 and a motherboard with as many features as you care about.

Skylake i3 and H170 board. You'll run into games that bottleneck the 970 more than the i3.

What's the cheapest laptop that supports 4gb of ram?

Mega.nz provides 30 or 40GB, I don't remember which one, check their site.

Genymotion.

did i get a decent deal on my gtx 960 2gb?
got 16gb g.skill ripjaws 1866 ram, a hard drive enclosure, and $60 cash. i live in canada so the prices are a bit higher.

Verizon's towers have the best coverage of the 4 networks, so if you care most about that, go with them or one of their MVNOs. At&t is runner up, followed distantly by sprint then t-mobile.

I wouldn't invest a lot of money now in a laptop you want to be powerful in a few years from now. If you spend most of your time at home, pouring the lion's share of your resources into a desktop is probably a good idea. Only you can decide how important portability/upgradablility is to you.

It's subjective, but I think most people wouldn't find 4k worth it on a 15.6 screen, and it will put a lot of pressure on your GPU and battery. But the build quality looks good though.

In general none. Older revisions of HDMI have certain limitations, but I doubt a monitor that old would have high enough requirements to saturate any hdmi spec anyway.

Pretty much all over the registry. You would need to look for settings on an individual basis. Going to the registry is more of a last resort.

Laptop. It won't be powerful enough to play the latest and greatest AAA titles at max settings - which are generally shit games you aren't interested in.

asus.com/Notebooks/K501LX/

I lost my desktop last year, and picked up this as a replacement. So far I have not felt like getting a new desktop. I have a big backlog of Final Fantasy games purchesed on Steam, with only the XIII series having performance issues (which you will get used to).

Thanks man for the advice about pouring resources into a desktop. I'll do that.

The only problem I'm having really is the budget seems to creep more and more to a point where is probably more powerful than I need it to be. Same with monitors, ever since I've looked at ultra wide 1440p monitors, anything less just seems much worse but the downside of this is the extra cost and also extra cost for the hardware to support it.

>How do I settle down on a budget without overspending when I probably won't need something that good?

How!

I just found a forum of "hackers" and in one sub board found a refund/replacement service - basically, purchase Item, contact the person, pay a percentage of said purchase in bitcoin or paypal, and you get a refund.
Does anyone know if they might be legit? Also, how would they manage to process a refund? Insiders perhaps?

Really stupid question.
I'm looking to buy a logitech g502s mouse.
It says some of the buttons are for dpi.
I don't want that shit, will I be able to change them to other keys?

Yes

Well, if 1440p is your line in the sand, then you'll want the RX 480 for good graphics or the 1070 if you're more inclined to push settings, which it sounds like you aren't. You can get 1440 monitors for under $300. That mostly narrows down the decision making to the processor. I wouldn't go lower than an i5, going up to an i7 depends on what you want, but processors tend to stay crispy for a long time, so you might not want to skimp there.

Well that's the literal cheapest. Dell core 2 duos are just the defacto minimal when you need a cheap laptop for simple browsing. They tend to be sturdy and long lasting. I'd throw a $20 SSD in there if you want it to feel more responsive. You can also find early i5's in the $150-200 range as well.

You probably have to turn on WMP in programs and features. By 'make' do you mean rip from CD or convert?

Anyone knows reliable way to get bios password for dell laptops?

Well like I said, you probably want to turn it on in Windows Features. You can also use Exact Audio Copy.

All my data and my Windows install is on a 1TB HDD, which is almost full.
What's the best solution to get Windows on the SSD without touching my files on my HDD?

Reinstall

It can be a PITA with laptops. If you're lucky you can bypass it with the right code. Otherwise you have call tech support and hope you can convince them you're the legit owner.

computerhope.com/issues/ch001302.htm

bios-pw.org/

It depends on how determined you are to not reinstall anything. Clean installing windows to the SSD would probably be the easiest if you don't mind reinstalling your programs. You could also copy your files to an external drive, temporarily delete the originals, and clone your OS using Macrium reflect. Then you'd just make a new partition on your old HDD and copy everything back. If you wanted to keep your old install without using an external drive, you'd probably need to use a paid program like acronis.

Just installed nightly build of firefox because memes. Everything's working properly except the theme I use is still listed as incompatible even though I turned compatibility checking off. What did I fuck up?

So I work 9-10 hours a day doing C++ development, I don't dislike it, but I don't think I enjoy it as much as most people at my company do considering some do nothing but work all day. I don't do that much during my spare time, probably to wind down from work, but I feel like it is a waste considering so many people work on side projects or contribute to open source projects during their spare time. How do you all motivate yourselves to do something productive during your spare time, is it just that drive to learn new things or do you force yourselves just to keep yourself from stagnating in your field?

wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/List_of_recommended_Windows_software#Image_editors

It probably just isn't compatible yet. Firefox made a big jump with E10, and they're on the verge of phasing out certain standards they've been using in their addons for years. When that happens, loads of pluggins are going to have to be rewritten to work with newer versions of firefox at all. Running nightly means you're getting features that pluggin developers haven't had much time to accommodate.

How do I pick a good laptop for Engineering major? I'm a freshman and no class requires a laptop, but literally all of them are much better with a laptop.

>In Intro to Engineering they get to keep all their work on one machine instead of saving to clouds or emailing to themselves or storing it on usbs.
>In English they can edit their papers alongside the professor during class
>In Calc 1 they can work on the homework as the professor lectures on the homework topic

I know I'm gonna end up needing to do some 3d modeling and maybe computations but aside from that I dunno.

In oracle sql, the following INSERT statement:

INSERT INTO copy_d_events

VALUES
(110, 'Ayako Anniversary', TO_DATE('JULY 7,2004', 'Month fmdd, yyyy'), 'Party for 50,sixties dress, decorations', '', 245, 79, 240, 6655);

returns the following error: "ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("SQL_SCHEMA"."COPY_D_EVENTS"."COST")"
In the copy_d_events table, the Cost column is not nullable. But the Costs of each event is not provided.
>pic related

Entering zero would be incorrect, because the events costs are not zero. They are simply unknown.
Also, making the costs column nullable is explicitly prohibited.
What the fuck am I supposed to do?

Honestly, doing 40 hours a week of code, and then coding in your spare time sounds like a great way to get burnt out as fuck. I mean yes, there are people who really dig that sort of thing, but if you don't, why not try stretching your mind in another way or just enjoying your free time until you find something that inspires you? Maybe start trying out skills for a career change down the road. How many people do the same thing for 30 years? Hell, what are the odds your job will even exist at that point?

This mouse and keyboard are decent, right (durability, functionality...)? Or is there any better cheap options that are usually dumped offices? Found them by around U$5,00 together

Sounds like you won't be doing anything hardware intensive, but I'd look into the recommended specs for whatever applications you'll be using in your program. If you're not gaming you pretty much just need to pick a size, budget, and determine if you care about IPS or not.

That keyboard looks loud as fuck, but if you don't mind keys you have to press in a quarter inch with every stroke, it seems like a good standard keyboard.

Alright Cred Forums I fucked up. My Surface Pro 3 forced the Anniversary update and after an hour of the update being at 0%, I get pic related. What do I do? Clicking Advanced Options gives me nothing but a blue screen which forces me to restart, making me go back to pic related. What do? I'm willing to wipe it.

Wait until you know costs then insert.

And here's what happens when I click Advanced Options. At this screen I have no choice but to force my Surface to shut down.

Put a Linux distro on USB and boot from that.

Backup your data.

Then download the Win10 iso from Microsoft, put it on USB, and reinstall. Activation is bound to the hardware, so no problem there.

Is this shit worth upgrading or should I just wipe, restore and sell on ebay?

Reinstall windows, try the repair option.

>32bit CPU
Sell.
Then buy a $100-200 thinkpad.

Sometimes when I'm on Autodesk I get an error that I've ran out of GPU memory. I have a GTX 950 card, but I've also got 16GB RAM.

Why is GPU memory so special?

usually mobos are configured to detect RAM memories in 2 first then 4 for best performance, using them simultaneously (don't know what exactly it was called) and 1 + 2 and 3 + 4 are connected together meaning that they just stack and don't run faster. 95% sure it says it on your mobo installation guide

>Then buy a $100-200 thinkpad.

Thanks, m8. I was going to buy about an $80 Dell Latitude E6500 though.

HWMonitor
idk
yes
idk
frankly for both answers you could've used google

It means VRAM, not RAM, which is your GPU memory.
So how much RAM you have is somewhat irrelevant.

GTX 950 only has 2GB VRAM IIRC.

If i have 2 vlans with couple of pcs in each, can i put them in one workgroup? I think workgroups work only in one subnet

install gentoo

Well, it is the same than a $75-100 T400, the only difference between than the dell and the thinkpad is that you would easier maintenance.

Just try to find one that isnt 1280x800, this goes for both dell and thinkpad.
Too small.

Anyone here ever have a problem with 'checking for updates' in Wangers consuming a whole CPU thread, over a GB of memory, and it just spinning for hours and hours and never finishing?

Yeah I'm having that problem. All the fixes online didn't work. Reinstalled and it has the same issue.

So if it runs out of VRAM it just gives up and won't even consider just using RAM?

Or better yet, buy a T420 with a 1600x900 screen for like $250.

Also Thinkpad T400 uses DDR3 instead DDR2, that is another plus.

W7? use windows update in control panel, dont let it update automatically, even if it says 0% for hours its still upgrading in the background (You can confirm this with resource monitor disk section).

If it bothers you just install the update that fixes the progress bar manually.

How the fuck do you pull up specs like that?

You cant just do overtime and get paid more money, you have to be authorized in your employment contract to do so. I'd it isn't in there too bad; bus tables on the weekend, or renegotiate your employment terms.

I was affraid of that. I bought used one and as far as i know it may have been stolen. At least previous owner enabled usb startup so i can reinstall software when i need. Cant upgrade bios and change some of useful settings tho.

I'm looking to make a new home server, mainly to act as a NAS.

Currently I'm using an old dell workstation with two xeon CPUs, but it's huge, loud, and uses a shitload of power.

Would like to look into something a bit more power efficient, that I could hopefully toss 10 TB+ of storage into. Bonus points if it's not ridiculously huge/loud.

Any ideas?

I'm currently thinking my main options are to build something custom, buy a NAS and somehow get Linux on it, or buy a single-board computer and hook it up to a bunch of hard drives.

Yeah I don't do automatic updates. Things I've tried:
Manually resetting windows components
Manually installing updates that change the kernel mode driver dlll (which is often the culprit)
Windows updates fixit application from Microshaft.

The thing is that it never completes. I've been running updates for 2 days.

2560x1440 monitors start around $300.
Is the extra money worth it compared to 1080p?

Looking at 2 Dell Ultrasharps, same everything except for the resolution, there is a $150 difference ($200 vs $350) between 1080p and 1440p.

I have ubuntu, installed lxde but it's not showing me the session manager at log on. How to fix?

Anyone?

Get cancer

Is the extra resolution worth the extra money? Can you afford the upgrade? Can your GPU support the extra work for your vidya? I'm not you, I can't tell you. Make a decision for yourself.

One issue with higher resolution at the same size is that some systems don't use scalable graphics, so you are forced to read super tiny text. Otherwise the higher resolution is nicer.

searchnetworking.techtarget.com/feature/Using-VLANs-to-compartmentalize-WLAN-traffic

ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1694837

Personal preference bro. Loads of people are happy with 1080p screens. But especially at 25"+ it can make a difference. Go down to bestbuy or visit a friend who has it and see if you like it enough to justify the additional cost for screen+GPU power.

I've heard about windows 10 LTSB not having any of the telemetry shit, does anyone know anything about that? Or is it just the same thing as regular windows 10 + one of those de-bloat scripts

...

Hey Cred Forumsurus, I've run in to a bit of a problem with my USBs (I think). In the last 2-3 weeks my mouse has randomly started to disconnect. The thing is that this doesn't seem like a "disconnect" as in that windows would inform that "Usb device has been disconnected" instead the red light is still on, but the mouse just doesn't work. Now last monday my keyboard did kinda the same. It ceases to function and the lights blink, same with the mouse. Now the same happened yesterday, and again today. The first time the problem seemed to solve itself and I continued on with my stuff. Now after 40minutes I powered off my computer and restarted. In the boot menu everything was working fine and now I am typing this here.

I really have no idea what to do here. Tried to google but couldn't find anything with the same exact problem.

weird. i think win10 added emojis. hopefully i can turn them off.

Just follow the pastebin.

What, do you see a puzzled anus?

The actual install size is a bit smaller, and you have a few more options by default, but pretty much Windows 10 Pro + O&O shutup is as good as anything.

Linux and windows use different ASCII characters for line endings. Look at using unix2dos to fix this before transferring them, or use a windows text editor that knows about it.

I cant change the resolution on ubuntu

Weird. It's like windows is censoring your anuses

Should I keep using ubuntu gnome or should I just get Fedora?

I've been enjoying it, as it is the best linux experience I've had thus far.

The only problem with Ubuntu Gnome is that on my second monitor I can't change the resolution after a certain point. It is a 1280x1024 monitor and it's stuck at 1024x720. It's using a DVI-VGA adapter but on windows I don't have that problem, it just werks.

Is there a way to fix this?

Regular narcissism not cuttin it for you, ey?

test with different mouse and keyboard just to be safe
test all the usb ports
assuming it's not those things, there's a problem with either your power supply or the motherboard itself
go and pick up one of these power supply tester things from whatever electronics store and test your psu
if your psu checks out then your mobo is fucking up

Thanks user. I figured this was the issue but didn't know where to start.

It's a collection of important things I posted across multiple threads that I can't keep track of. The things people use tripcodes for but I'm not that much of a fag to use one.

You could just click all the minuses on the posts that aren't yours.

Deep end's on your budget.

New Thread

What did ye olde google say?

Yeah but thought I can find better ways to do it since Cred Forums-X already remembers my posts.

Where does it keep the post history anyways.

There's a CSS class on your own posts, something like yourPost, so you can put

.replyContainer:not(.yourPost) {display: none;}
in custom CSS.

Also you could put
:root.hideNotYours .replyContainer:not(.yourPost) {display: none;}
in custom CSS and
external-text:"you","javascript:document.documentElement.classList.toggle('hideNotYours');void(0)"
in custom board navigation to toggle it.

>Where does it keep the post history anyways.
It's browser and extension type dependent, but it's in the same place as the rest of the settings and you can see it if you export them. It only keeps it for live threads; dead ones get pruned.

Reboot.
You're running Windows. Reboot is always the answer.

If you're prone to static shocks, *definitely*. I've never had an issue though, even running around the house in fuzzy slippers on a dry winter day carrying an ESD-sensitive component.

Usually just touching a grounded thing before working on something will do the trick.

A $5 band to avoid destroying hardware costing hundreds isn't worth it?

This works! Thank you so much!
