Kind of low nowadays. I spend my life in remote secure installations with only weekends off. That means I have like no opportunities to change job either because I don't/can't leave the compound for interviews.

Did back-end web development some years ago, but this field moves so fast I won't claim to know it any more.

I have some minor embedded development skills, after doing embedded development for about 7 months.

I usually do low-level programming on PCI and networking subsystem of linux, but I think I have pretty generic programming skills.

Cred Forums is mostly busy discussing the most optimized implementation of fizzbuzz.c

1. Install Gentoo
2. Optimize your kernel
3. Compile everything from source with optimized flags
4. ???
5. FIZZBUZZ.c

The average Cred Forumstard is disgusted at the idea of programming being "useful".

"Useful" is a filthy word for Cred Forums autists.

Reading this thread, I'm reaching the conclusion that PHP and/or Android development is making people depressed and giving people social anxiety.

I think most of us moved on 5 years ago. It used to be a place where smart people actually stayed around discussing things not consumer or tech support related things. With popularity it was impossible to keep any kind of semblance of a standard.

We even had a fucking NSA whistle blower giving the general details about their surveillance schemes he was part of building up. People didn't really believe him but 5 years later Snowden leaks kind of confirmed everything that user said.

For me, working on front-ends that use anything JavaScript based makes me depressed. The language is cancer and TypeScript isn't helping. Don't really find PHP unbearable.

(am )

>TypeScript
>VB .NET
Well, you're caught in the web that's called a Microsoft environment, so there's no wonder why you are depressed.

I totally understand why web dev would make people depressed. Android though, why?
JS is cancer, web dev is cancer. As someone who transitioned from JS to JAVA I can say that.

Irony is I work on Linux (although okay granted, using vscode). Maybe that's a contributing factor.

Also I just happen to know and have used VB.net, haven't used it outside of academia. (Thankfully)
