Welcome to your Saturday afternoon /fmt/.

Ask questions, share tips and tricks, bitch about how Sierra broke your apps, but most importantly, this is a

So I installed Mega because the extension wasn't working and it pinned a folder to the favorites bar in Finder, now I can't remove it. Any suggestions?

install gentoo

MBA or MB(R)?

go into finder preferences. it's like on the middle tab

wait for november for the refresh. they will likely release a new thinner rMBP so go for that. unless they actually reboot MBA instead of killing it and the new one is somehow better than the 12" MB

It's not an option

Sierra didn't break any of my apps lucky enough. In fact my only gripes with it are a slightly slower (~2 seconds) wake-up time when I open the lid when it's asleep, and whenever I do a reboot there is a half second visual glitch that happens every time. Mildly annoying, but still lightyears away from the bullshit I put up with on Windows for 15 years.

Has anyone with a macbook air 2013 installed sierra, and if so, how has it been so far? I'm mainly interested in how it might affect battery life.

pedophile

What server?

Anyone else think it's bullshit that Picture in Picture only works in Safari and not other browsers?

Also split view only lets you split once and only in the vertical direction?

Shit Apple when did you stop caring about the professionals and power users?

Hold down the Command key and drag the item out of the Finder window until you see an X badge over it, then let go.

Doesn't work

Anyone know how long the Sierra upgrade takes on a MacBook?

Mac thread? OS X thread? Hackintosh thread?
We have so many.
Yes

Has anyone else has severe graphical glitches and trouble waking up from sleep on Sierra? I did a clean install on a new 5k iMac.

>Anyone else think it's bullshit that Picture in Picture only works in Safari and not other browsers?

Probably because third-party browsers all handle HTML5 video differently than Safari (i.e. not using native APIs). Or maybe Apple is planning an API in the future for third-party browser PiP. Just speculating.

>Also split view only lets you split once and only in the vertical direction?

Most people use widescreen displays and don't need to view more than two portrait-style document windows simultaneously. Also Sierra now lets you snap windows together and expand them from any side or corner to the edge of the screen.

>expand them from any side or corner to the edge of the screen.

With a double-click, I mean.

then mega is likely doing some sneaky ass shit. remove it asap. likely a nsa botnet

it's been fucking perfect. same or better than el cap and battery life is still up there

wow mods that was rude

>remove it asap
That's what I'm fucking trying to do. The program's been gone for quite a while but no matter what I do I can't remove the horseshit from Finder's sidebar

>Linux bootloader

>Mac bootloader

reminder freetards should be hanged

>not using rEFInd

rEFInd works for Linux on non-Apple machines, dumbass

It's clover faget
It's a shame I can't find any screenshots of the sketched theme, it's beautiful. All the rEFInd themes I see are shit, typical gnushit

this is Clover i think... Actual mac bootloader is even more minimalist
>м instead of m
why does GNU do this?

try nuking the sidebar preferences file

sudo rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebar.plist

then force quit and restart finder

what theme is that

there's a way to get safari to launch local media into pip that involves dragging the or copying and pasting the location of the file into the address bar IIRC

Hey that worked, thanks user

np

>mfw I actually get mackintosh working
Running JustWerks/Linux feels so good.

Running Sierra on a tricked out Mac Mini 2011 model with the real GPU, works great and nothing was broken. I am a MacPorts user (no bully plz) and that upgrade was painless too.

I'm waiting to buy a new machine, prolly going to choose a MBP. For now this thing is fine, enjoying Fallout 3 thanks to Wineskin Winery.

Pretty comfy machine with an SSD upgrade as well as 16GB RAM.

Remember this shit, sometimes stale preferences files will fuck with software after an update.

Pretty standard Mac system maintenance knowledge, like zapping pram/SMC.

female neighbor of mine called me and said her Mac's USB ports aren't working
When she tries to plug her phone in she gets some kind of notification about power saving
that's all the information got
how should I try to fix this?

Where do technology illiterate mactoddler morons get the false impression they or their fruity toddler toys are welcome on a technology board?

This isn't technology

user, bullying is wrong

Anti-bully ranger!

Reminder that Akarin posters are harmless and polite posters

>I am le master haxxor and I and only I get to decide what technology is and isn't worth discussion on le tech board
This is an 18+ website.

>tfw i apparently collect PPC shit

Wrong board

if you feel that way, report it. otherwise stop being a whiny bitch like this.

Oh man, remember that autistic spaz who posted this shit non-stop and got banned by mods over and over again?

No one wants to see this on Cred Forums

>is on Cred Forums
>doesn't know how to configure filters and hide threads
Cred Forums could be 100% Apple free for you if you wanted. You won't though because you like having these threads to bitch about.

this. being a hapless victim is all anti apple zealots have.

shortcodes exist for 2 reasons: for linking/searching, and for filtering. if you don't like this thread, add it to your subject filter and go on your way. if you really can't handle any mention of apple and therapy is too expensive, add "apple" or whatever other terms you want to the filter.

>shortcodes

if you have a point to make, you'll have to be less autistic than posting a picture of yourself thinking it means anything to us.

...

I'm running 10.10.5, should I upgrade to macOS Sierra or stick on this for a bit?

upgrade

Why aren't you at least on El Capitan? It's like Yosemite but not buggy as shit

depends on if you have a newer MBP and if you use iOS 10 and/or an apple watch. a lot of the most compelling features in Sierra are about interconnectivity between other devices, so if you're not into that then honestly sierra is not that different.

okay we get it you really like fedoras. can you mumble your way into another thread?

Any software incompatibilities I should be aware of before I upgrade?

i mean sure, several, but you've told us absolutely nothing about what software you use now, so what do you want? a comprehensive list of all software?

go google the software you use and add "sierra" or "10.12" or something. or at the very least list all the software you use here.

> roaringapps.com/apps?platform=osx&os=sierra&status=×
this was helpful.

Can i install osx on my thinkpad t430s?

I've read guides on how to get a hackintosh working with an AMD CPU. But they require me to install an old version of OSX to download some software that writes OSX on my flash drive on a specific setting and then I have to install a custom kernel.

Is there any fucking alternative to this software that is only for OSX?

Like:
reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/4d6ay6/amd_el_capitan_guide/

requires OSX to be installed to run their software. It's stupid.

I've always loved the brushed metal look on the older OS X. I wish they never got rid of it in favor of that plastic/flat look.

Also, been loving my 2015 rMBP. Intel Iris, but I mostly using it for building VMs and whatnot for work.

where am i supposed to get the media to install macos on computer

>bash 3.2.57

hahaha what?

OS X doesn't ship GPLv3 software, that's the last version licensed under v2.

mbp 10.6.8 here, I don't have the admin password what do I do

It didn't break any of mine either, but I only use mainstream shit that actually gets updates. I was actually pleasantly surprised how well it runs on my late 2009 iMac
This is supposed to be a thread without Lanix or Windoze users shitting it up. It never turns out that way though.

apple.stackexchange.com/questions/61905/how-can-i-reset-a-macs-password-from-single-user-mode

Do you need the files on it? If not, just follow this guide to reinstall Snow Leopard support.apple.com/en-us/HT201663

install a vm and make the USB through that

I just got a VM working for Yosemite on AMD hardware. But it keeps crashing when I try to add a network.

Can't anything work right?

Google "t430s hackintosh". If you find multiple guides and success reports, give it a try. Otherwise... it's one of those "if you have to ask, then no" cases.

AMD hackintosh is not worth it. Shelve the idea for now, revisit when you change to Intel hardware.

I've done that for 2 years now. This is my first time getting it to even boot. But now the option to setup a network only gives me an option to use a telephone modem. rip

Why is macos such a steaming pile of shit?

Why does applel not give a single shit about anything but "muh aesthetics"?

It's hard to give a shit about that article. Musician encounters bug in iTunes that deletes songs. Restores songs from backup. All is fine. Literally will not stop talking about it.

Yes obviously software should not be deleting things, but we're talking about computer storage here. There is nothing less reliable in this world. His songs could have been wiped by an errant cosmic ray. You have to back things up, and he did.

(Also- after he threw his initial public shitfit, they sent technicians in person to investigate and troubleshoot.)

...

I DID IT. I FINALLY DID IT.

I GOT THE INTERNET TO WORK IN THE HACKINTOSH. I JUST HAD TO SPEND AN HOUR GETTING GUEST SHARING TO WORK IN VMWARE AND TO INSTALL ANOTHER FILE TO PROVIDE INTERNET DRIVERS

ASDNSA:ODNASC FINALLY

I broke it by updating the OS from the App Store. I'm bummed now.

oh my god my sides

fuck off you cunt

My IntelliPoint drivers don't work anymore. Anyone else run into this issue? Tried reinstalling the drivers but no dice. Everything else is slower too which is pissing me off.

>uses appleshit
>expects anything to work

What are the best programs for music and video?

just reinstalled my ports

My only complaints are trying to use some older Epson drivers causes Photoshop to crash occasionally. No more Perian so we cant preview webm pr0n Otherwise Sierra has been a speed and quality improvement over el capitan and works really well.

>normalfag logic process
>Hmmm when I plug my phone into my mac I get a power saving notification
>!!!
>My USB ports aren't working!

Why would anyone upgrade from yo semite to mac'o's? Literally all you get is new added bonnet features.

*botnet

little snitch detects nothing unusual.

Will my 2008 MacBook Pro be able to run macOS Sierra?

osxdaily.com/2016/06/14/macos-sierra-compatibility-list/

I guess not.

Unofficially

Is it actually worth updating then? What is the performance like?
I mean I see shit like siri and immediately assume it's going to run like dogshit, ala windows 10.

>Karabiner doesn't work on Sierra
I literally cannot use my Model M properly without it.

Although I just read the feature list, and it's literally just
>siri
And that's it, plus minor version updates for some software.
I guess I don't give a fuck.

Hey, /fmt/.

When is the best time to get a MBA? I won't have the money for the holiday season and if I came into some major cash, I'd mostly use it for other things like a good graphics card for my desktop.

But next year, is there a good time of the year to buy Macbooks? I know the 2015 models should drop in price a little if the new MBA comes out or maybe I'll be able to just buy the new one if it's good enough.

I'm a dev so I don't want to fuck around.

If a USB port is shorted/overloaded on a Mac the firmware automatically shuts the USB port down. OS X gives you an error about how your USB port is drawing too much power.
It's usually because of a short somewhere.

Sierra must be the buggiest OS X/macOS release I've experienced. I see glitches all the time in Safari and iTunes
