Don't forget the fucked up mess of an OS it is. Debian or Ubuntu with cinnamon would be so much better.
Its not my personal favorite but I would say its the closest to ready for "prime time".
Cooper Green
Are you upset that it >Just works!
Real users have to work for their OS not have it work for them right?

Cinnamon is like a clunky KDE Plasma, why use Cinnamon when KDE Plasma exists?
Dominic Hall
Why use either when MATE exists?
John Thomas
Why do you exist, poorfag?
William Gray
>use Cinnamon when KDE Plasma exists Because Cinnamon actually works.
Chase Davis
He's right, it does.
I can slap it on anybody's "muh windows 10 sux" desktop or laptop and its good to go with no other assistance needed.
Jordan Ortiz
Pretty based
Christopher Lopez
>hates systemd >wants to run debian
Nice one, m8.
In all seriousness, you could run Devuan. I'm currently on Arch and debating a switch to Void. I'm just too lazy to make it happen. Maybe next weekend.
Isaiah Nelson
hating systemd is what cool kids do these days
Easton Phillips
LINIS MINT DA FUG XD XD

Name one issue with Ubuntu
Cooper Reed

Because Clem hates kikes.

>this is simply the worst OS in the Linux community ever: >>hand holding Go fuck yourself OP
there was a time when Ubuntu was a nice noob distro that gave beginners a helping hand, now its all just butthurt assholes trying to force Ubuntu or Debian shit on everyone
Eli James
Why base shit off of Ubuntu when Ubuntu is based off of Debian?
Nicholas Brown
So do other distros.
Aiden Nelson
>loves eating Lennart's shit nice one pajeet

>I'm currently on Arch and debating a switch to Void. Do it, I did the same thing a while back and don't regret it at all
Only issue is the relative lack of documentation, but usually you can figure any problems you have out
John Torres
I recommend it to my tech illiterate friend because it looks like Windows and it already has the media codecs and normie shit. I use debian myself
Easton Cook
Delet this. Cinnamon a cute.
Thomas Lee
No strong opinion on Mint as a distro, although I respect that they're trying to go for stability despite their small team by basing themselves off each LTS for two years (and rolling updates in from the point release). Probably was a mad scramble trying to keep up with releases as fast as Canonical can shit them out.
So yeah, I can take Linux Mint or leave it, but Cinnamon is comfy as fuck.
Gavin Martinez
Mint is fine for what it does. Tho these distros are much better at succeeding at building a no hassle distro voidlinux.eu/ antergos.com/ nixos.org/
Mint remember, has horrible, terrible, massive gaping hole security like when that one guy replaced every .ISO with his own backdoored image and infected thousands of installs. Mint's coverup of this and denials were absolutely haram too. They still have no idea what they are doing and should be avoided. Just read their message lists from that time, nobody had any clue.
James Bailey
>Mint remember, has horrible, terrible, massive gaping hole security like when that one guy replaced every .ISO with his own backdoored image and infected thousands of installs. While I agree the team's response was sub-par, I would call it cluelessness, coverup is going a bit too far. Plus there were differences between the security distro's repositories and whatever CRM setup they had for their site/forum. Again, I agree with you, just want to add some nuance to your characterization of that particular incident.
Joseph Johnson

That was a wordpress vulnerability, not mint.

>Seriously contemplating going to Debian Debian uses systemd and is what Ubuntu is based on.
You aren't avoiding Mint, you're just moving further up the river that Mint came from.
Just install gentoo. Devuan isn't quite ready yet, but looks promising.
Juan Fisher
Nah, really? A crappy one is a one line batch file, a usable one ~20 lines in basic/c/Java/python/...
Even OP could do that
David Richardson
>Cinnamon is fuckton better than GNOME 3 This is a false statement.
Isaac Brooks
I agree. Cinnamon is only a little better than GNOME 3. Definitely better, though.
Brandon Butler
That's a matter of opinion. I for one don't like using window buttons and love the activities-oriented window management of GNOME. Some don't, I understand that, but these aren't things to be graded objectively.
Caleb Scott

He had a decent point to make and I could've gotten on board but he argued it horribly. It came off like plugging your ears and saying "la la la I can't hear you".
Tyler Gutierrez
What an unwarranted attack. What does GNOME do that makes you so hostile to those who like it?
Easton Rodriguez
KDE Plasma's key feature is that it's buggy as fuck.
Adam Hall
That was before I saw the follow up reply with a real opinion.
Colton Clark
there is literally no need for this to exist since manjaro exists
Luke Parker
>hand holding How? >pulseaudio or no sound Are you sure? Isnt it possible to use alsa alone?
Camden Mitchell
Alsa alone does the job quite well, but pulseaudio is way more comfy
Landon Mitchell
Actually i failed disabling pulseaudio in LM. It would left me with no sound.
Gabriel Thomas
>Hand holding >Having Linux being easy to use and accessible to non-techy people is somehow inherently bad
Is there some actual problem with the way Mint is simplifying things or is this just a form of "I don't want it to be easy for other people" gatekeeping?
