FAQ: > Stop shilling I have spent hours if not days looking for a working solution. This is a thousand times better than FF Beta + uBlock.
> Why not ABP Browser, etc There are other FF based forks. Problem is? FF is slow as fuck on Android. It's just horrible.
> What if I use Samsung You can use this, or use Samsung's "Internet" and install ABP and other filters for it. That app is literally a Chromium re-branded. It's got annoying animations and whatnot, though.
> Name looks shady Yeah, they do lack creativity.
> But I see ads The only ads I saw is when you press that shield on the bottom, it updates the filters, and you see ads at the bottom. And you can just X out the window.
Lincoln Cox
It's running a rather fresh build too, but it's still has that "merge apps and tabs" thing in the settings that I never liked. But it's off by default.
Brayden Rivera
Where's the source code? Do you think anyone on Cred Forums is going to use some propware?
Jackson Phillips
> use some propware About 99% of Cred Forums, yes.
To be honest I would use Firefox but first there is the SJW shit, second, it's very slow. So yeah, I am ready to sacrifice.
Also: > stock Android > free / open-source
welp..
Tyler Robinson
Thanks mane, doing me a favor
Eli Robinson
np, I can open XDA with this under 2 seconds. in Chrome it takes about 10-15 due to ads.
Gavin Bell
btw Rocketshield was funded by Samsung or sponsored I don't know. they made the first filter app for Samsung's Internet.
I guess now they will just be a company just like the others, making apps and keeping themselves afloat.
Nicholas Reed
I don't have gapps installed so I can't try it. Also >not blocking ads system-wide There's no reason to use such a browser or even adblock extensions unless you're stupid enough to have an android device you can't root.
Jacob Wood
why wouldnt i just use adaway?
Daniel Collins
AdAway is a blessing and a curse.
> It's system wise. That is a good point. > Host based, so it's fast. > Some games will not have ads. But who plays shit games anyway? > Some apps have shit implementation and they load ads synchronously. Having AdAway causes them to lock up, slow down, or even break totally. Facebook breaks for example. (No I didn't use it, it broke for my friend). > It cannot have element hiding rules, like cosmetic ones, only can block resources directly. So if there is a shady text block, it will get loaded, or you will see a huge blank space there.
It's a double-edged sword. Then there is the need for root. On HTC, on Samsung, you can't root. (Unless you have 500$ in your pocket.)
Josiah Barnes
Lucky patcher is better for remove ads in apps.
Zachary Gray
>Then there is the need for root. If a phone cannot be rooted, don't buy it.
Andrew Ortiz
Not sure about HTC, but Samsung phones usually get root support after a year when some geek on xda finds a way to easily root. At least from my experience with my galaxy s3 and s5.
Facebook is a shit app anyway, if you need it you can always use FB Lite and won't even need messenger for messages, which will save you battery, network bandwidth and disk space. I didn't have a single problem with any apps after a system wide adblock.
I agree on the empty blocks problem, but the reason I like it better is the speed and app adblock. I rarely visit sites which contain ads all over the place so I almost never notice the blank space. Obviously this is just a matter of preference and browsing habits.
It doesn't work on all apps and it can make some apps break. Unless you're not talking about rebuilding the apps without ad dependencies, in which case the system wide adblock on lucky patcher is identical to how adaway works although I'm not sure if they use the same hosts list.
This desu. Not having root permissions is almost like not using your own phone.
Andrew Taylor
also true.
Xavier Turner
Samsung S7 Edge costs 180$ on plan total. > don't buy it
SOUNDS LIKE A CLEVER PLAN
> HTC Can be rooted. It will just trigger something inside and it will say you tampered with the device. Of course you can root a HTC, just like how you root a Samsung.
But in my life I had to return like 5 HTC devices and 4 Samsung. Usually near the end of warranty. So fuck that, ain't gonna risk it.
> Facebook is a shit app anyway It was an example mate, I never use it. I have Lite because some people just can't fucking learn Hangouts or Telegram. I just mentioned it because AdAway breaks it.
> I like it better is the speed and app adblock Speed wise, I think it's 1:1 on par with "Free Adblock Browser".
Now guys, don't get me wrong. If there was a different build of Chromium with blocking, fuck I would post that.
But there is none. There was a few attempts at XDA to make Snapdildo and other forks that had adblock inside, but they just had this baked filters.
Matthew Richardson
Is the video codec any good on this. I only use FF because of that.
Jeremiah Turner
well it can play youtube, and porn. I think it's Chrome's codec pack, just a bit older, does not have that dedicated mute button yet.
I mean, it's version 48 instead of 53. They will catch up quick.
And 48 ain't that old at all. Samsung's Internet is way older.
Charles Phillips
you can root s7 edge, us versions don't have unlocked bootloaders though.
Oliver Young
Yeah see this is what I meant. I know it's "physically possible".
The only phone I know that's safe to root is LG, pre 4.4 Samsung. Chink phones I guess. Nexus (but these carry the tampered message too IIRC).
Nolan Lewis
Eh, I just use Lightning Browser which has adblock and is FOSS. It just werks.
Alexander Powell
Another nice alternative, thank you. (Downside is that it uses "WebKit", not Chrome so there is no new engine update whatsoever UNLESS your device runs a fresh Android and receives the WebKit updates.)
Caleb Jones
lol what. the adblock version is 2$?
what the fuck > open source > but pay pls This is some megajew bullshit. Maybe Chris "Hide Your Shekels" Aljoudi made this app?
Chase Bailey
It's FOSS, so just download it from f-droid or something. It's literally free, I'm guessing the paid version is just to get some free money from dipshits.
Christian Diaz
It's free you fucktard. You don't have to pay for anything.
Levi Gray
Yeah double checked, only the Play Store version is not free. I hate F-Droid though, it's constantly running in the background with like 50-80mb of ram usage for no fucking reason. It's one of the worst apps I ever seen. I mean the purpose / intention is noble, but it sucks.
hurr durr
Christian Hall
Ok installed the Lightning+. Where do I set up my filters and shit? Can't find anything in the settings..
Easton Martinez
Welp okay. > There is no filter setup > Interface lags like hell (android 6.0.1) > Feels like Android 2 era browsing
I know it's free, but fuck me it sucks. Will not refund, let's hope this free-fucker can fix this mess once he gets the time.
Kevin Carter
Works for me mate, maybe your phone is shit.
Mason Campbell
Well I test it on the same device I use the others.
> Chrome Fast as fuck if no ads. Sync available. > Free Adblock Browser Fast as fuck anyhow. No sync. > Firefox Beta + uBlock Sluggish as a motherfucking piece of shit. It can also crash. It sucks. There is sync. > AdBlock Browser It's literally a Firefox stable + ABP installed, it's slow and shit. > Lightning+ Looks like a Froyo stock browser. Can't customize adblocking whatsoever. Interface tends to freeze up. Behind Chrome's features, engine.
