arch is good if you already know linux
it has aur which is nice
opensuse is pretty nice as long as you use KDE
debian based distros have most community support

GNU/Linux Source Mage
Best choice for everything.

OP here, should also mention this'll be my first distro

unless you count putting mint on a usb and fucking around

Yes, hello sir. I would kindly recommend the Windows 10 Home Edition.

I already have windows on my system, but I want to get linux experience for future jobs

Then go with Debian/Ubuntu and be done with it

Not OP, but what are the advantages of arch over Manjaro if I do not care about muh bleeding edge that much? Freelance programmer here.

Ubuntu MATE if you want no-nonsense or Antergos+Gnome if you want le modern design. Ubuntu is basically the apt package system and a tweaked Gnome. The primary difference between distros is the package manager.

the ability to setup system from almost-scratch. Arch is nothing compared to Gentoo in the way of "from scratch" as you're using precompiled binaries and dealing with Pacman but it's probably the leanest distro that a non-linux enthusiast could set up. Antergos included too if you do a base install.

hey mate
full blown autist with a sub 90 iq here
smashed my PC the other day so hard I fucked up the mechanical hd with windows 7 on it, plugged in a spare ssd with ubuntu and have been pleasantly surprised. if i can get mame running it it i don't think there'll be any reason to go back

stay away from gnome at all costs
I agree Ubuntu MATE is good, pretty lightweight and looks good if you turn compiz on
also easy to use thanks to its "welcome" window

Thanks for the legit answer my dudes

How does Ubuntu fair against Debian when it comes to programming/gaming? Is there a clear winner when it comes to those two? What about customization?

Debian has older packages so performance may be worse
customization is pretty much the same (it depends on the desktop environment)
I'd stay with ubuntu MATE if it's your first distro

cheers. is MATE a desktop environment? Sorry for noob questions.

What's wrong with gnome?

Antergos looks pretty good, but if it installs arch for me I guess I should learn how to do it myself. No idea how hard that would be though, I've only used debian-based distros before

>is MATE a desktop environment?
yes.
>What's wrong with gnome?
they keep removing features while somehow making it slower and heavier. also SJW propaganda

SJW propaganda? How so?

ZorinOS Lite

Going to get Ubuntu MATE right now. Should I get Artful or Xenial for my first time?

artful has newer packages, while xenial is more stable
if you have ryzen processor pick artful, otherwise go with xenial

who knew Cred Forums would be this helpful

you guys are great, cheers

>arch is good
mate, if you already know linux, i'd say use gentoo or void or something
>debian
solid choice, idk about opensuse but it's probably fine too if you're fine with KDE. fedora is another option but they're anal about licensing

openSUSE is pretty good

>Choosing things makes me wanna die.
Then go back to windows.

I'm testing arch right now, any suggestions?

Manjaro KDE

>Games
Windows10

Funtoo

Lol! Just grab Kubuntu.
If you have nvidia, you NEED the proprietary drivers. For AMD, MESA works best.
Be advised, you are likely to experience performance loss on most games compared to windows, especially running WINE (program to run .exe's on linux, turns directx into opengl)

>pycня

what wrong with that.

Hичeгo. I've got Arch as main distro as well.

i'm only testing, and i have this problem right now.
