The DE built in ones on OS X, GNOME, KDE, MATE, and LxQt are all fine. On barebones WMs I use pqiv. On Windows, typically IrFanView.

No. Just play the .gifs and .webms with your browser or your video player instead. Windows Photo Viewer doesn't have the codecs necessary to support them because the involved developers had limited resources and time to work on the support at its epoch.

I came here to post this. I am so pissed Google stopped working on it, its the best goddamn picture manager/viewer. So easy to just view an album, and show your friends and family.

On Linux, I'm fine with either feh or gpicview. On Windows, I always deeply hated any option I've tried, until I discovered this slightly obscure Nexus Viewer. Their file explorer is very godd as well.
You can turn on or off that bar to the right.

JPEGview is like the only one that will automatically resize window to image.

Everything else has a boner for doing it the other way around which usually just leaves grey borders around all your pictures. I want to see my pictures, not empty space.

It still have some things that annoy me though.

Unironically a really good viewer, could open gigabyte sized photos while all the other viewers just crashed.

All image viewers fuck up on certain images but they all don't fuck up on the same image therefore you need to have several.
