do you use latex for everything, though? I use it for more formal papers/reports, but for quick, unimportant papers I just use libreoffice. Things like tables and embedded images are such a hassle in latex

Word substitutes can be fine but there's no real alternative to excel.

lel that's what I have installed on my old 486 PC. I have to admit that having it around did save my life a few times (no printer that could work on my modern computer around, only a 90s deskjet one hooked to that machine).
Anyway, even by today's standard, it's still a somewhat decent word processor if you wanna make simple documents such as letters and stuff like that.
