I am filled with so much rage and hatred. Towards others and myself.
I hear the riffs and I feel the swing and motion of it but I am so overtaken with anger that everytime I try to write whilst in this state I just grip the neck of my guitar and have to try really hard not two snap the thing into pieces.

How can I concentrate and focus all this emotion to actually be able to physically play/write when I am feeling it?

I have been playing guitar for almost 10 years and am fairly capable and somewhat content with my skill level. Both rythem and lead.

I don't pay attention to their albums, but I like listening to their more wangty-feelsy songs from time to time. City, Paradise Lost, Bullet, etc.

While prog is a very self-serving genre and being self-serving isn't inherently bad, Dream Theater represent the worst of a genre already filled with self-indulgent expressionism. Dream Theater are not as fun as Gentle Giant or Genesis, are not as good songwriters as Pink Floyd or Porcupine Tree, nor as adventurous as Can or King Crimson. The only thing this prog band really has going for them is their technical exhibitionism and histrionics. However, much like Rush, this is merely a front to hide just how ordinary and uninspired their music is much. While the members of Dream Theater are more than capable of playing, the ability to play something worthwhile is a trait that is lost on the group. And it is this that makes Dream Theater experienced, yet so amateur.

Disappointing. It felt outstretched and as you say, some riffs are rehashed. It sounds very similar to the last couple of albums but with none of the brilliant ideas. On top of that I dislike the "new" vocals, I really enojoyed the croaking even if everyone else seemed to hate it.

Is all "good black metal" boring?
Listening to pic related, and, like many BM albums, it seems as forgettable as the average pop album, and I just kinda zone out, unable to pay attention to it, but not in a "drawn-in, atmospheric" kinda way, more like a "damn, this isn't even halfway done yet?" kinda way.

I listened to A Blaze in the Northern Sky by Darkthrone earlier with similar results, although it was less samey than Drudkh's album. I've been a fan of Soulside Journey for a really long time and none of their BM has struck me.
These folk parts on Blood in our wells would be cool if they were longer than ten seconds and didn't seem like outtakes of fluke good parts from them improvising on instruments they don't know how to play.
