OP here, forgot to start with the biggest one of them all. I listen to john mayer literally a shit ton.
Someone end me
all their songs are very catchy, yet the lyrics feel genuine and Bradley wrote songs about whatever the fuck he wanted to. i was really into hardcore punk and ska growing up, and sublime reinvents that sound in a much more mellow way. their first album is all over the place- they cover descendents, toots and the maytals, bad religion, and grateful dead, all in the same album, yet none of it sounds bad. it's a mashup of sounds that was completely innovative in the nineties.
they also didn't do a single damn thing for the fans, they always put the music first. their second album, Robbin the Hood, was recorded in a crackhouse because they got accused of selling out since their first album was somewhat successful.
i always thought of sublime as a counterpart to nirvana, as both bands drew from a lot of the same influences, but a lot of wildly different ones, too. sublime and nirvana both got famous for doing their own thing, yet never sold out and kept releasing kinda weird shit once they were famous.
Adele
Sia
Melanie Martinez
Limp Bizkit
Outkast
Alanis Morrisette
Rudimental
I never really thought of them that way, I can dig that.
